A whole week with her nature-loving cousin Macy? D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R! Harper spelled in her head as the car stopped at a farmhouse.
Without saying hello, Macy stood holding a prickly (多刺的) plant in a plastic bag. T-R-O-U-B-L-E-M-A-K-E-R, Harper thought.
Aunt Debby waved. “You two run along, but don’t go in the stream. It’s high from the rain.”
As Macy was already heading for the woods, Harper groaned but followed.
“Is that poison ivy (毒蔓)?”
Macy spread the vine’s leaves. “No, this has five leaflets on each leaf. Poison ivy has three.”
Harper giraffe-stepped over the plants, watching for three-leaflet vines. She didn’t hear the rushing stream until they were very close.
The water was racing. Something was coming towards them, holding onto a piece of wood.
“What’s that?” Harper asked.
Macy’s eyes widened. “A field mouse.”
“Ew. Mice carry diseases.” Harper said.
“They’re also important,” said Macy. “They spread seeds and loosen the ground by digging holes.”
“Oh. _▲_.” Harper thought.
The mouse drew closer. “We have to save it!” Harper blurted, surprising herself.
She quickly ran to the ferns (蕨类植物) and asked Macy for help. They pulled out a large, strong fern to the stream. “We’ll help you.” Harper told the mouse.
They pushed the leafy end of the fern into the water. The wood caught on the leaf, but then it broke loose and started floating away again.
“Oh no!” cried Harper.
But then the mouse jumped! It landed on the fern leaf. Harper watched, amazed, as it dashed over the leaf to the bank and stopped to look at them.
“I think it’s saying thanks. You saved a mouse!” said Macy.
Harper smiled, “We saved it together—E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T!”

If the app on your phone keeps serving(推送)you“colour walk” things lately, you might be wondering: Is this another trend(趋势)that requires an expensive coffee and a camera worth more than my phone? Good news: A colour walk costs nothing, and the only thing you need is your eyes and your phone.
What exactly is a“colour walk”? It’s a mindful, mini adventure. Where you choose one colour and let it guide you around your neighbourhood. Pick green, and suddenly you’re following trees, shop signs, traffic lights, and that stranger’s crazy bright green trainers. Choose pink, and you’ll start noticing pink flowers, random packaging, or a cheerful hair clip on the ground. The goal is to collect a “colour story”—a set of photos that shows two things: The world is brightly coloured, and you were paying attention.
For much of the time, we walk in autopilot mode: school→homework→scrolling→sleep→repeat. Colour walks change that way. They are like walking in a calm way. This helps you feel better in your mind, lowers your worry, and makes you notice more of what is around you. They gently nudge our brains to slow down and, even better, change them into treasure hunt mode(模式) except that the treasure is… an everyday red postbox. And finding it feels surprisingly satisfying.
Spring is the perfect season for it. Everything is basically competing in a beauty competition: fresh greens, soft pinks, golden sunlight, little pops of colour everywhere, and flowers that look like they should be on a National Geographic cover. Even the way you’ve walked a hundred times can make you feel new when you’re hunting for a certain colour.
So, pick a colour. If you’re a beginner, start with something easy like green. If you’re up for a challenge(挑战), go for hard mode and choose a colour like purple. Walk around and mix it up: nature, buildings, reflections, and shadows. Add a silly rule if you want: only take pictures of circles(圆圈), only look up, or only take tiny things. It’s your colour story!
A colour walk won’t fix your whole life or rid you of exam stress, but it can make an ordinary afternoon brighter, calmer, and a little bit more yours.
34. What does the phrase autopilot mode in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Doing daily things as planned. B. Living a calm life without plans.
C. Finishing daily tasks in a slow way. D. Changing daily activities very often.
35. What do we learn about colour walk?
A. It costs people a lot of money. B. It focuses on difficult daily tasks.
C. It encourages exploration in spring. D. It helps people find expensive treasures.
36. Which of the following might be for the hard mode in a colour walk?
A. Choosing an easy colour like green. B. mixing different things during the walk.
C. Paying more attention to one single object. D. Recording small things under the traditional rules.
37. The following sentence can best be put at the beginning of ________.
By focusing on a single colour, you train your brain to notice details you would usually miss.
A. Paragraph 1 B. Paragraph 2 C. Paragraph 3 D. Paragraph 4

In the near future, we may be able to taste food and drinks “online” before buying them. A new tool made by scientists at Ohio State University in the US makes it possible to share taste on the internet.
When we eat or drink, our teeth and tongues(舌头)break the food into little pieces. During this process, very small things called molecules(分子)come out of these pieces. The taste buds(味蕾)on our tongues catch these molecules and “tell” the brain about them. The brain then knows how the food tastes.
The “e-Taste” tool has two main parts. The first part works like our tongues. It checks for five special chemicals(化学成分)in food or drinks, said The Guardian. These chemicals give different flavors like sweet, sour and salty.
After getting this information, the first part can send it to the second part of the tool, even if it’s in another city. The second part then mixes the five chemicals with water to make new liquids(液体). People can taste these flavors by drinking the liquids.
Scientists believe “e-Taste” can be used in many ways to improve online experiences. For example, it can help make online classes and gaming experiences more fun.

31. How did Harper feel when she giraffe-stepped over the plants?

C. Maybe Aunt Debby will be angry with us D. Maybe the field mouse is dangerous

第十三段位于Macy解释田鼠的重要性之后:“They spread seeds and loosen the ground by digging holes.” 此前Harper一直认为Macy是“T-R-O-U-B-L-E-M-A-K-E-R”,但听了Macy关于田鼠传播种子、松土的知识后,她内心开始反思,意识到Macy并非只是个麻烦制造者,因此A选项“Maybe Macy isn’t just a troublemaker”最符合语境。
【33题详解】
全文围绕Harper和Macy合力救助一只被洪水冲走的田鼠展开,从发现田鼠、用蕨类植物施救到田鼠成功脱险,“Saving A Field Mouse”最能概括故事的核心情节,是最佳标题。

【37题详解】
第二段提到“Choose one colour, and you’ll start noticing pink flowers…”且第三段提到“Colour walks change that way… help you notice more of what is around you.”,题干句子“By focusing on a single colour, you train your brain to notice details you would usually miss.”承接第2段的“选颜色、注意相关事物”,引出第3段“色彩漫步如何改变日常状态”,放在第3段开头最自然,对应选项C。
