“Listen, my friends,” Long John Silver said quietly “Tomorrow morning, when we reach the island, we will take the treasure and kill anyone who tries to stop us.”
“But what about the boy and the other gentlemen on this ship?” asked one of the pirates nervously.
“Ha!” Silver said angrily. “They don’t know our real plans. Once we find where the treasure is, they will be useless to us.”
Jim felt very scared because he knew how dangerous they were. These men, in fact, were bad sailors and were planning to kill them.
“What if they find out our plan too early?” another pirate asked worriedly.
“Then we will have to act quickly,” Silver answered coldly. “I have killed many people. A young boy and a few gentlemen are no real danger to skilled pirates like us.”
“Yes, Captain Silver,” the men said together excitedly.
Jim knew he must tell his friends about it right away. Quietly, he began to move away from his hiding place, but suddenly his foot hit a wooden board and made a loud noise.
“What was that?” Silver asked sharply, looking around the dark places.
“Maybe just the ship moving,” one pirate said.

1.第一段提到:“Roberta wanted to know if the old gentleman could help the Russian find his family. So the children wrote to the old gentleman.” 说明孩子们写信的目的是帮助那位俄国人找到家人。

“Hello! I’m Zaza from Planet Junk. My planet is like a huge dustbin (垃圾桶), so I’m looking for a new home.” He looked around. “Someone told me Earth was beautiful, but this planet looks as dirty as mine!”
The Greens’ faces turned red—they really shouldn’t leave rubbish everywhere.
“Are those green things trees?” Zaza said excitedly, “On my planet, they were all cut down long ago, but you have so many. How lucky you are!”
At the same time, Mr Green noticed a newspaper with the title: More Rainforests Disappeared. His face burned. He quickly sat on it, trying to hide it.
Later, the Greens took Zaza to the beach. Mrs. Green told him that people came here to play and relax, hoping to show Earth was still a nice place. But Zaza saw plastic bags, cans, newspapers and bottles everywhere. He even thought this was a “recycling (回收) centre”.
Then the Greens took Zaza to their home. As Mr Green opened the door, lights were on in every room, even though the family had been out all day.
Zaza was disappointed, “I can’t live on Earth. If you keep making so much rubbish and wasting so much energy, my planet’s today will be yours tomorrow. Bye!”
As Zaza flew off, Mr Green stood still for a moment. “He’s right. ▲ . Let’s clean up the rubbish and turn off the lights.”

Jim Hawkins hid behind a big barrel. His heart was beating fast when listening to the dangerous pirates (海盗) talking.
“Maybe,” Silver said, “but be careful. We cannot have any problems at this important time.”
Jim held his breath, hoping they would not find him. Everyone’s safety depended on his ability to get away from it and tell his friends about the danger.
