Some stories do not touch audiences with events, but with what remains after those events: a letter that never arrived in full, a name that carries weight, a promise left open. Dear You begins in these remnants, and slowly expands them into something larger than memory.
Released on April 30, Dear You has a score of 9.1/10 after 190,000 reviews on Chinese review platform Douban, making it not only the best-reviewed film of the May Day holidays but also the highest-rated domestic film so far this year. As of Monday, the film, made on a modest budget of 14 million yuan ($2.06 million) and featuring no star actors, has grossed more than 140 million yuan at the box office.
The film moves between two timelines with little emphasis on transition. One follows a present-day search; the other returns to the 1940s, when grandfather Zheng Musheng leaves his coastal hometown in the Chaoshan region, mainly including Chaozhou and Shantou cities in South China's Guangdong Province, to work in Southeast Asia to avoid conscription by the Kuomintang.
During his time in Malaysia and Thailand, he works hard and continues to send qiaopi letters, short messages often accompanied by small sums of money, back home.
However, Zheng dies before he can return home. Rather than ending the correspondence, a woman in his migrant community in Thailand, Xie Nanzhi, out of gratitude for Zheng's kindness and sympathy for his helpless family back home, chooses to continue it in his name, sending money and writing letters to Zheng's family for decades to quietly support their livelihoods and keep the overseas connection alive.

(2026·云南省普通高等学校招生全国统一考试预测)Hungarian-British writer David Szalay who was born in Canada, won the Booker Prize for fiction on Monday for Flesh, the story of an ordinary man’s life over several decades in which what isn’t on the page is just as important as what is.
Szalay, 52, beat five other finalists, including favorites Andrew Miller and Kiran Desai, to take the desired literary award, which brings a 50,000-pound (about $67,000) prize money and a big boost to the winner’s sales and profile.
He was chosen from 153 submitted novels by a panel of judges that included Irish writer Roddy Doyle and film star Sarah Jessica Parker. Doyle said Flesh — a book “about living, and the strangeness of living” — emerged as the judges’ unanimous (一致同意的) choice after a five-hour meeting.
Szalay’s book recounts the life of taciturn (沉默寡言的) István, from his teenage years through time as a struggling immigrant in Britain to a resident of London high society. The author said, “I want to write about a Hungarian immigrant, about life as a physical experience, and about what it’s like to be a living body in the world.”
Accepting his award at London’s Old Billingsgate — a former fish market transformed into a glitzy event venue — Szalay thanked the judges for rewarding his “risky” novel. He recalled asking his editor “whether she could imagine a novel called ‘Flesh’ winning the Booker Prize.” “You have your answer,” he said with a smile.
Doyle, who chaired the judges, said István belongs to a group overlooked in fiction: working-class men. He said that since reading it, he looks more closely when he walks past bouncers (保安) standing in the doorways of Dublin pubs.

C.Its members have different professional backgrounds.
D.It only valued literary quality when choosing the winner.
3.What do we know from Szalay’s speech?
A.He was fully confident of winning the prize.
B.He didn’t expect his novel to win the award.
C.He was encouraged by his editor’s early support.
D.He thought experimental novels were losing popularity.
4.Which statement is supported by the passage?
A.Flesh beat Roddy Doyle’s work to win the Booker Prize.
B.Szalay aimed to explore life as a physical experience via his novel.
C.The panel chair said the book focuses on an overlooked working-class man.
D.The novel uses detailed appearance descriptions to show the hero’s changes.

(河北邢台市卓越联盟2026届高三下学期4月质量检测)A new documentary, Folktales, follows three teenagers who spend a transformative year at a “folk high school” in northern Norway. These schools offer unconventional education: no grades or exams, but encouragement to develop practical outdoor skills, build inner confidence, and detach from the pressures created by constant digital noise.
Hege, a 19-year-old from southern Norway, comes to the school with modern anxiety from phone overuse and social worries about others’ perceptions of her. Life in Pasvik, a remote area 200 miles from the Arctic Circle, changes her habits. Students learn to set up tents in deep snow, keep warm at -30°C and guide dog sleds (雪橇). Within weeks, Hege uses her phone less and finds peace in dog sledding on frozen lakes.
The directors, Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, contrast this approach with America’s exam-centered system. Pasvik’s philosophy prioritizes personal growth, social courage, and character development — shaping how students engage with the world. As a teacher says, “It’s more about who you become than what you learn.”
Rooted in Scandinavian culture and inspired by philosopher N. F. S. Grundtvig, these schools emphasize open and community-based learning. Norway now has 85 such schools, hosting 7,000 students yearly who seek a break from traditional study or a chance to reset their lives.
Romain, another student in the film, initially struggles to build a campfire in the freezing cold and asks to use the teachers’ fire, but his instructor firmly refuses, telling him he must rely on himself. When he finally succeeds, his confidence grows and he finds it easier to connect with others.
Folktales shows that these schools give young people something vital: the ability to face real challenges, strengthen relationships, and gain a clearer sense of who they are. For students like Hege, the experience is life-shaping.
5.What does the word “detach” probably mean in paragraph 1?
A.Suffer. B.Separate. C.Hide. D.Result.
6.What is a key feature of Norway’s folk high schools?
A.They offer exam-centered courses to improve grades.
B.They stress the training of hands-on skills and mental strength.
C.They prioritize theoretical knowledge over practical application.
D.They concentrate on preparing students for specific future careers.
7.What is the most important lasting change for a student like Hege?
A.Having a clear career path. B.Choosing to live in remote areas.
C.Developing greater self-understanding. D.Gaining special outdoor skill certificates.
8.Which activity contradicts the school’s principle?
A.Public dog-sledding ranking. B.Personal progress journal.
C.Quiet camp for self-thinking. D.Students’ feeling-themed play.
【答案】5.B 6.B 7.C 8.A

As a teacher says, “It’s more about who you become than what you learn.”(帕斯维克高中的办学理念更注重个人成长、社交勇气和品格塑造 —— 这决定了学生如何与世界相处。
根据最后一段“Folktales shows that these schools give young people something vital: the ability to face real challenges, strengthen relationships, and gain a clearer sense of who they are. For students like Hege, the experience is life-shaping.(《民间故事》表明,这些学校给了年轻人一些至关重要的东西:面对真正挑战的能力、加强人际关系的能力以及更清楚地认识自己的能力。对于像Hege这样的学生来说,这段经历塑造了他们的人生。)”可知,对于像Hege这样的学生来说,最重要的持久变化是发展出更强的自我认知。故选C。

Passage 3
From Page to Screen
The charm of bringing a classic book to the screen lies in the opportunity to reach a wider audience and visualize the characters and the story. 1 It demands both respect for the original and courage to reimagine.
One of the most significant challenges is adapting the often long and complicated narrative of a novel into the limited runtime of a movie. Novels allow readers to immerse themselves in the story over hundreds of pages, exploring intricate subplots, character developments, and detailed settings. In contrast, a film typically has just two to three hours to convey the essence of the story. 2 Namely, they have to decide what to include and what to leave out.
Reproducing an author’s distinctive tone and literary style is challenging as well. Capturing them on film requires a deep understanding of the source material and a creative approach to visual storytelling. 3 For example, the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility directed by Ang Lee captured Jane Austen’s subtle humor and social comment through its careful attention to period details, character interactions, and the pace of dialogue, making it one of the most beloved adaptations of her novels.
Another challenge is portraying beloved characters that have lived in the imaginations of readers for generations. These characters are often vividly described in the novels, and readers develop strong attachments to their own interpretations. 4 Yet, a well-cast actor can make the characters come alive. Therefore, filmmakers must consider not only physical resemblance but also the ability to convey the characters’ complexities and inner struggles when casting.
In the end, the art of adaptation lies in striking the right balance between faithfulness and innovation. 5
A.Great adaptations achieve this masterfully.
B.It requires filmmakers to make tough choices.
C.However, this journey is full of potential difficulties.
D.The mental images can be difficult to match on screen.
E.Filmmakers focus on such details to present a novel’s plot.
F.Only in this way can we honor the past and speak to the present.
G.Casting is the bridge between a reader’s imagination and the screen.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.D 5.F

3.根据前文“Reproducing an author’s distinctive tone and literary style is challenging as well. 4.根据前文“These characters are often vividly described in the novels, and readers develop strong attachments to their own interpretations. (这些角色在小说中往往被生动地描绘,读者对自己心中的解读产生强烈的依恋。)”可知,读者心中有对角色的固有印象,很难在银幕上完全匹配,D选项“The mental images can be difficult to match on screen. (这些心中的形象很难在银幕上被复刻。)”承接前文内容,符合语境。故选D项。

【答案】
1.released 2.has won 3.Based 4.whose 5.that 6.of 7.protecting 8.Compared 9.but 10.impressive
故填has won。
故填Based。
故填that。
此处为固定搭配be aware of,意为“意识到”,所以用介词of。故填of。
此处为固定搭配not only...but also...,意为“不仅……而且……”。故填but。

1.What is typical of David Szalay’s novel Flesh?
A.It adopts a particularly strange narrative style.
B.It mainly focuses on the life of an average man.

2.What can we infer about the panel of judges?
A.Its members disagreed on the winner.
B.Its members were former Booker Prize winners.
