of Durbar Square, my fingers gently touch the newly restored wooden doors, their surface warm and vivid — as if they had just awakened from a surgery. The carved patterns tell a story: the meeting of ancient Nepali woodcarving craftsmanship with the new restoration technology from China. The ninestory Basantapur Tower is not just a building; it’s Nepal’s cultural DNA.This mid-18th-century pagodastyle structure suffered extensive damage in the 2015 earthquake. Today, as I look up the 30metertall temple supported by several thousand carefully restored wooden components, I am witnessing a miracle crafted together by two civilizations. In Nepal’s search for funding and technology to repair this ancient structure after the earthquake, the answer came from across the Himalayas. In 2017, China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration sent team more like a tech startup than traditional restorers. They brought laser scanners, hightech structural analysis software, and a philosophy: “Don’t just fix the surface — strengthen the bones.” The most revolutionary intervention went unseen: flexible steel cables (绳索) running through hollowedout (挖空的) wooden posts enabled the structure to swing safely during an earthquake. Here, in this UNESCO World Heritage Site, I saw currency of influence. The restoration cost pales compared to the value of knowledge transfer: Nepali restorers were trained in 3D modeling through workshops conducted in both Chinese and Nepali. More Chinese heritage workers are going abroad, bringing China’s advanced techniques to the world, while more international conservationists are coming to China to learn its preservation principles and methods. This dance between tradition and innovation is a powerful demonstration of the transformative power of cultural exchange. If such exchanges can cross the Himalayas, they can travel greater distances, enlightening us all. As the morning winds of the Himalayas carry the metallic whispers of temple bells, I recall a profound insight: “Civilizations become enriched through exchanges and thrive through mutual learning.” 1.What do we know about the Basantapur Tower? A.It is a palace of modern crafts. B.It is a symbol of Nepal’s culture. C.It provided shelter for local people. D.It stayed complete in the earthquake. 2.What is innovative about the restoration work? A.The reduction in the use of wooden posts. B.The worldwide support for cultural preservation. C.The training of Nepali restorers in 3D modeling. D.The internal strengthening with flexible steel cables. 3.What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A.Digitalization of heritage sites. B.China’s sharing of restoration knowledge. C.UNESCO guidelines of cultural relics. D.China’s techniques of heritage restoration. 4.What is a suitable title for the text? A.CrossBorder Cooperation Revives Heritage B.Nepal’s Struggle to Preserve Its Past C.Approaching Nepal Through Ancient Temples D.Looking into Traditional Craftsmanship Passage2阅读理解 The Mogao Caves of Dunhuang, a treasure house of art of China, has been spanning over 1,000 years. The art inside here covers more than ten major genres, such as architecture, stucco sculpture, wall paintings, silk paintings, calligraphy woodblock printing, embroidery, literature, music and dance, and popular entertainment. But all these only existed because of one man’s vision. In 366 A.D., a monk named Le Zun looked across the river at dawn and saw a thousand Buddhas appear on the golden cliff face of Mingsha mountain along the old Silk Road. The caves were then built by monks and mostly sponsored by people such as wealthy merchants, foreign dignitaries, as well as Chinese emperors. But when trade in the Silk Road stopped, Dunhuang was soon forgotten and eventually, the Mogao caves were abandoned. The site however was still used as a place of worship by the local people of the 20th century when there was renewed awareness in its presence once mere. Most of the discoveries came from a Chinese Taoist monk named Wang Yuanlu who appointed himself as the guardian. The caves at that time were badly ignored, but Monk Wang recognized their value and instituted a program of restoration, funded by whatever donations he could gather. He then made one of the great discoveries in Chinese archaeology (考古学): an amazing cache, of over 50,000 documents and paintings, which had been hidden in Mogao Cave #17. The cave #17 came to be known as the Library Cave, which was walled up sometime early in the11th century. A number of theories have been proposed as the reason for sealing the cave. One theory was that the cave had become a waste storeroom for precious, damaged and used documents and holy equipment and then sealed perhaps when the place came under threat. Another suggestion is that the cave was simply used as a book storehouse for documents which accumulated over a century and a half, then sealed up when it became full. Others suggested that the monks hurriedly hid the documents in advance of an attack by invaders. 5.What is the second paragraph mainly about? A.The legend of Mogao Caves. B.The end of the old Silk Road. C.The discovery of Mogao Caves. D.The development of the Silk Road. 6.What did Wang Yuanlu do to restore the caves? A.He evaluated their value. B.He raised donations in different ways. C.He sent guards to protect them. D.He persuaded government to do repairs. 7.What does the text come from? A.Traditional culture. B.history book. C.biography. D.science fiction. 8.Why is Mogao Cave #17 considered a great discovery? A.It used to be a library for monks. B.It stored valuable historical materials. C.It had a history of over 1000 years. D.It was deserted for mysterious reasons. Passage 3 阅读七选五 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。 Whenever the city layout of Beijing is mentioned, its iconic central axis will immediately come to mind. This imaginary central axis, with a length of 7.8kilometers, is the longest and best-preserved central axis in the world. The central axis of Beijing starts from Yongdingmen Gate in the south. 1 Along the way, it connects almost all of the important sites. It passes through Zhengyangmen Gate, Tian’ anmen Gate, Duanmen Gate, and Wumen Gate. From Wumen Gate, it continues north through the Forbidden City until it reaches the north gate, Shenwumen Gate. It then passes through Longevity Pavilion atop Jingshan Hill and ends at the Drum and Bell Towers. In ancient times, the central axis, which was popularly known as the “dragon vein”, was seen as a royal line. 2 Traditional thinking holds that the north-south axis coincides with the Earth’s meridian. A number of grand royal buildings were built along the axis with the Forbidden City at the center. Emperors in ancient China believed they were the center of the world, so all their palaces should be built there. 3 Each half was built in the Ming Dynasty with symmetrically arranged pairs of gates. Although the gates have been torn down to make way for modern roadways, their names are still used to designate city districts: for example, Dongzhimen and Xizhimen. It is curious to note that the central axis passing through Tian’anmen lies approximately 200 meters east of the true axis of symmetry as calculated from the distance between the city walls. 4 However, along the central axis, Di’anmen Gate and Yongdingmen Gate were torn down in the mid-1950s to make way for road projects. However, Yongdingmen Gate regained its former grandeur after it was rebuilt in 2004. Now, Di’anmen Gate is the only part of the backbone that still needs to be restored. 5 It is the north gate of the imperial city of old Beijing while Tian’anmen is the south gate. The names of these two gates in Chinese symbolize the peace of heaven and earth. A.Most of the gates are well preserved. B.Di’anmen Gate was first built in 1420. C.The central axis is traditionally a fixed line. D.Most gates have been destroyed with time. E.It extends to the Drum and Bell Towers in the north. F.The central axis is marked with buildings clearly. G.This central axis splits the city into approximate halves. newly restored wooden doors, their surface warm and vivid — as if they had just awakened from a surgery. A.CrossBorder Cooperation Revives Heritage B.Nepal’s Struggle to Preserve Its Past C.Approaching Nepal Through Ancient Temples D.Looking into Traditional Craftsmanship 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.B 4.A 【解析】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一项尼泊尔工程,展现了中尼两国在文化遗产保护领域的合作,加强了文化交流与技术共享的深远意义。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The ninestory Basantapur Tower is not just a building; it’s Nepal’s cultural DNA. 【答案】5.A 6.B 7.A 8.B 【解析】这是一篇说明文。主要说明了敦煌莫高窟是中国的艺术宝库,已有一千多年的历史。这里的艺术门类主要有建筑、灰泥雕塑、壁画、绢画、书法木刻、刺绣、文学、音乐舞蹈、大众娱乐等十余种。文章说明了莫高窟的建造过程,以及莫高窟17号这项伟大的发现。 5.主旨大意题。根据第二段“In 366 A. 【答案】1.E 2.C 3.G 4.A 5.B 【解析】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了北京中轴线的相关信息。 1.上文“The central axis of Beijing starts from Yongdingmen Gate in the south.(北京中轴线南起永定门)”提到中轴线的南端起点,E选项“It extends to the Drum and Bell Towers in the north.(它向北延伸至钟鼓楼)”介绍了中轴线的北端终点,与上文构成完整的起止描述,上下文逻辑连贯。故选E项。 2.上文“In ancient times, the central axis, which was popularly known as the “dragon vein”, was seen as a royal line.(在古代,中轴线俗称“龙脉”,被视为皇家御道)”说明了中轴线在古代的地位,C选项“The central axis is traditionally a fixed line.(传统上,中轴线是一条固定的线)”进一步阐述了中轴线的传统特性,与上文在内容上相呼应。故选C项。 3.下文“Each half was built in the Ming Dynasty with symmetrically arranged pairs of gates.(每一半都建于明朝,有对称排列的城门)”提到了城市被分成两半的情况,G选项“This central axis splits the city into approximate halves.(这条中轴线将城市大致分成两半)”引出了城市被分割的内容,与下文衔接紧密。故选G项。 4.下文“However, along the central axis, Di’anmen Gate and Yongdingmen Gate were torn down in the mid 1950s to make way for road projects.(然而,中轴线上的地安门和永定门在20世纪50年代中期为了道路工程被拆除)”有转折意味,说明有部分建筑被拆除,A选项“Most of the gates are well preserved.(大多数城门保存完好)”与之形成转折关系,先表明大部分保存完好,再引出部分被拆除的情况。故选A项。 5.下文“It is the north gate of the imperial city of old Beijing while Tian’anmen is the south gate.(它是老北京皇城的北门,而天安门是南门)”对设空处提到的建筑进行解释说明,B选项“Di’anmen Gate was first built in 1420.(地安门始建于1420年)”引出地安门,下文的“It”指代“Di’anmen Gate”,上下文自然衔接。故选B项。 Passage 4 完形填空 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。 It has been 10 years since I first came to China.
