Plants for Life
Wang Wencai was a great Chinese plant
explorer.He was born in early summer and
made plants his lifelong passion.For over 70
years,he travelled across China to study the
country's plants.Wang discovered and named
about 1,370 new plant species.To carry out his
research,he spent years in wild mountains and
forests.Once,he fell seriously ill during field
work in Yunnan,but he never stopped working.
At 83,he lost sight in his right eye,but he
didn't tell anyone.With a magnifier in hand,he
continued his research for another 10 years.Despite
his great achievements,Wang cared little about
personal honour or wealth.He received the
First Class Award of National Natural Science
Awards twice,but he hardly mentioned it.He
