Passage 1
Anyone can become a successful runner. Here are some simple but important steps to get started on your way.
1
One of the toughest parts about starting a new running routine is managing your expectations. Before you set out with this new routine, remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. It will take time for your body to adapt to the new demands you’re making of it. And let’s face it — running makes a lot of demands of your body, from your feet to your ankles, calves, thighs, lungs, heart and mind.
Take it Slow
Start slow — try to run at a pace where it feels as though you’re using 60-percent of your overall energy and ability. Keep that pace throughout your first few runs, though feel free to increase or decrease your speeds if necessary. 2 It could lead you to suffer a painful injury that will prevent you from running again for some time.
Take Breaks
One of the biggest mistakes new runners make is trying to run for a long distance without taking any breaks or beating themselves up for having to take such breaks. In reality, if you’re new to running, you’re going to have trouble maintaining a strong pace for a lengthy distance or period of time. 3 . And doing so is just fine.
Plan Your Route Ahead of Time
4 . So, think carefully about your route before heading out on your run. Be aware of possible obstacles and how you can get around them. Be reasonable with your expectations, but use a distance that will make you feel good about completing your run.
Wear the Right Gear
New runners often make the mistake of hitting the sidewalk without gearing up with the right equipment. That doesn’t mean they should go out and buy expensive running shoes or headphones. 5 .
A.Consider Skipping the Music
B.Set Reasonable Expectations for Yourself
C.So, it’s important to just accept that you will need to take breaks
D.In truth, music can help with the running experience by enhancing the runner’s mood
E.Just don’t overdo it on your first few runs, especially if you’re new to this exercise
F.Instead, new runners should focus on wearing clothing that will keep them comfortable
G.New runners sometimes fail to set a route for themselves before heading out the front door
Passage 2
When you’re moving on a tight timeline, efficiency in packing is crucial. These tips can help you get it all done before the big day.
Schedule moving services as soon as possible
Maybe you’re hoping to use professional movers. 6 . Especially in the peak moving season, truck rentals, hourly moving services, and cross-country moving companies book up quickly.
7
Even though you’re on a deadline, if you can stay organized packing for a move, it’ll save you time because you’ll only have to transport the stuff you want and need. As you work through each room, sort the things into the categories like “donate”, “get rid of”, and “keep”.
Label everything
Labeling each box will streamline the unpacking process. Make sure to label boxes with where they’ll go in your new home, not where they came from in your old house. 8 . That saves you from having to move things around.
Prepare for help
If you’re lucky enough to have help from friends and family, don’t have them show up until you’re organized. That way, you can give them clear instructions like “take that pile to the trash can” or “box everything in this cabinet (柜橱).” 9 .
Follow moving company rules
If you’re hiring movers, one of the most important packing tips for moving is to read your contract. 10 . They may include things that are breakable, oversized, or extremely difficult to move. Make sure you know ahead of time what they’re willing to move and what they’re not.
A.Sort your belongings
B.Gather items used for packaging
C.Booking them should be your first priority
D.There are often restrictions on certain types of items in it
E.There’s no point in moving items you’re never going to use
F.That way, the movers can easily get things into the right room
G.If they show up too soon, they’ll just slow you down with questions
Passage 3
Emojis are small symbols representing ideas, emotions, or feelings. They come in different categories, such as faces and people, plants and animals, and food and drink.
The word “emoji” comes from Japanese, meaning “picture character.” When first introduced in Japan in 1999, emojis were limited to 176 simple designs. 11
In today’s world, emojis have become increasingly popular. 12 People like them because they add emotional meaning and are quick and easy to use. Similar to gestures in face-to-face conversations, emojis help readers “see” the writer’s facial expressions. 13 For example, if a friend is moving away, you might send crying faces instead of struggling to find the right words. Some even believe that emojis can express feelings more effectively than text alone.
The influence of emojis has spread beyond daily communication. 14 A Shakespeare series for young readers has replaced some words with emojis to make the classics more accessible.
15 While emoji users say they improve communication, educators worry that overuse may weaken writing and speaking skills.
A.Their history is surprisingly short.
B.Emojis can also help when words fail.
C.However, concerns about emojis exist.
D.They have even entered classical literature.
E.They seem to have advantages over written language.
F.However , some people prefer phone calls to emoji messages.
G.Now, there are over 3,000 emojis, expanding the way we communicate.

Passage 1
Over the last decade, STEM-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-has become increasingly defined as the symbol of development, success, and progress. Incoming college students are increasingly choosing majors like computer science, biology, and engineering, even if some of them are not particularly interested in those subjects. 16 However, this has subsequently left liberal arts and the importance of the field behind.
17 To answer the question, we need to consider what liberal arts are. Different from STEM, liberal arts are essentially the broad study of how the world works, assisting with students’ critical thinking, creative application, and social skills, ranging from topics like psychology and sociology to linguistics and history.
Although today STEM-based education seems to be the most effective path to take for career prospects, liberal arts can produce just as much success. This is mainly due to the fact that a liberal arts education teaches students important soft, social skills, including clear and effective communication, error-free writing, problem-solving, and successful data analysis, among others. 18 Without them, how can a student properly prepare themselves for a career?
In addition, students in liberal arts possess the most important characteristic of being more human. What they learn brings them distinctive social insights. 19 It not only translates into more humanized employees in the future workforce but also provides a significant positive effect, too. As much as AI has taken the world by storm, it does not take away from the fact that when someone calls customer service, they want to hear a human voice. They want someone who can considerately help them solve their problems on a more emotional level rather than just being assisted by a robot that follows a program.
As society continues to evolve, and people’s needs and wants continue to change, merely sticking to practical, baseline solutions will not work. That’s exactly where liberal arts come in. 20 And that’s the beauty and importance of liberal arts.
A.Why are students today seeking towards the field?
B.Do liberal arts still matter in a STEM-driven world?
C.These skills are what a good employee should have.
D.Anyway, it seems like the “right” thing to do for their future.
E.This nature generally can’t come from STEM-based education.
F.That’s why both liberal arts and STEM are important for a progressive society.
G.AI will never be able to truly understand humanity as an actual human mind can.
Passage 2
Some pals and I were in the midst of a pinball competition at a bar the other night when the machine kept breaking down. We called over a very busy employee who’s responsible for helping keep the place running. He put everything aside to fix our problematic pinball machine twice. 21 A couple of the guys immediately objected, saying the employee was just doing the job he was paid to do. I insisted and got the group to agree to the plan, although somewhat reluctantly.
My pinball fix er didn’t stretch out his hand, but how many times have we run across those payment screens that suggest a 20% tip for being handed a sandwich we ordered? 22 There is data to back up the trend: 66% of American adults have a negative view of tipping, and 32% say they’re sick of those payment-screen hints, according to a recent Bankrate survey.
23 I admit there are times I suspect the tipping thing has gone too far — say, when I’m at a self-checkout line and there’s still request to leave something extra. But I’m generally willing to err on the side of caution: If someone is expecting a tip, I’ll assume they have financial reasons to do so. 24
Plus, tipping is good karma It’s always worth it to tip in unexpected situations — ones that don’t necessarily involve a hint on a payment screen. 25 He was so grateful for the $10 tip that later that night, he rewarded our group with well more than $10 in free tokens (代金券) for future play.
So next time, there must be no arguments with my friends when times come to tip.
A.This leads to what’s been called “tipping fatigue”.
B.So, why am I willing to go against the trend and say yes?
C.What is the underlying reason behind this growing trend?
D.I suggested we tip him $10 and split the tip among all of us.
E.Guess what happened next with my pinball-machine fixer at the bar?
F.One dollar or two won’t make or break me, but it can possibly help with their rent.
G.If they earn far below the minimum wage, employers must make up the difference.
Passage 3
In today’s hyper-connected world, most of us are flooded by an ocean of messages and social media feeds, from the moment we wake up to the instant we close our eyes. It’s not just a matter of convenience or novelty anymore — fixation on screens has become our habit, a necessity, and even an addiction. 26 Constant engagement not only consumes our time, but also steal us something far more important: peace of mind.
Silence is as critical to mental health as vitamins are to physical well-being. People are particular about what foods they put in their bodies: whether organic, vegetarian, or fat-free. 27 The mental junk we absorb daily can be arguably harmful than the occasional cheeseburger or donut. The never-ending flood of sensory input taxes the brain’s limited attention resources, leaving little room for deep thinking, reflecting, or creativity.
28 Quiet time helps the brain relax, sort through what it has taken in, and regain lost mental energy. As American artist Leonard Koren suggests in his book Wabi-Sabi, silence can be’ “an emptiness full of possibilities,” a space where creativity and clarity emerge.
Adding moments of quiet to your daily routine doesn’t require dramatic changes. 29 Better yet, research shows that brief exposure to nature, like a walk in the woods, lowers stress levels, reduces blood pressure, and sharpens focus. These benefits occur because green spaces and natural soundscapes provide a much-needed break from today’s busy, stressful world.
Digital life crowds out silence, making simply sitting in silence almost unthinkable — yet the very moments of stillness are what our minds really need. They let us listen to our thoughts, reflect on our experiences, and connect with ourselves in a way that is impossible in the noise of modern life. 30
A.But rarely do we ask ourselves: at what cost?
B.So, shouldn’t we make laws requiring quiet time every day?
C.It can be as simple as pausing 30 seconds to watch clouds.
D.Next time you reach for your phone, resist the urge and sit in silence.
E.We check our phone 58 times a day, 30%occurring during work hours.
F.But they aren’t as picky about what they are exposed to through the senses.
G.Just as our bodies need nutrition, our minds require silence to function well.

Passage 1
How to Protect Your Eyes While Staring at a Screen All Day
In today’s digital world, prolonged screen exposure can cause eye problems like dryness, headaches, and blurred vision. 31 Here are useful tips to protect your eyes and feel better during long work or study hours.
● 32 Looking at a screen for too long makes eye muscles tired. Experts suggest the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. However, longer breaks are better for your eyes’ health. Recent research indicates that taking a 5-minute break each hour might be even better to relax your eyes completely.
●Blink more and use eye drops preventively. When you focus on a screen, you blink less, which dries out your eyes. Blinking more often helps keep your eyes wet and comfortable. Using preservative-free (不含防腐剂) eye drops every few hours can also help. 33
●Adjust your screen settings properly. Position your screen about an arm’s length away and slightly below eye level. 34 Additionally, increasing text size and adjusting brightness can significantly reduce eye strain.
Protecting your eyes requires consistent effort, but small changes to your daily routine can make a big difference. 35 Regular eye check-ups are essential for maintaining good vision. If symptoms persist, consult an eye care professional.
A.Take regular visual breaks.
B.This helps your eyes relax and the muscles rest.
C.Making sure your screen is in the right place is important.
D.Put them in before your eyes feel dry, not just when they hurt.
E.By following these tips, you can reduce eye strain from screens.
F.However, many people are unaware of how to prevent these issues.
G.Recent studies prove that screen use directly causes permanent vision damage.

Passage 2
Taking effective notes is crucial for academic success. Here are four key strategies to enhance your note-taking skills.
Be Prepared and Active in Class
36 notebooks, pens, or a charged laptop. Review previous notes to refresh your understanding and prepare for new content. Being an active listener is equally important. Focus on comprehending the lecture rather than mindlessly writing every word. Ask questions if something is unclear.
Focus on Key Information and Use Effective Methods
When taking notes, prioritize key words, concepts and “new” information. Avoid writing down every single word. Instead, get the main idea of what’s being taught. 37 . Make questions based on the material, answer them in your own words, and support them with examples. Additionally, use shorthand to increase efficiency.
Organize Visually and Use Colors
Visual organization makes reviewing easier. 38 . Use wide margins (页边空白) for additional notes and add symbols like arrows or boxes to highlight connections between ideas. For visual learners, diagrams and charts can be invaluable. Using different colors with pens or highlighters can also help you remember better. 39 because it won’t work as well if you do.
Integrate Textbook and Other Resources into Your Notes
After a class or a lecture, enrich your notes with information from textbooks or other resources. Quickly understand the main points of the material by reading titles, introductions, conclusions, and the first and last sentences of paragraphs. 40 . Avoid copying full sentences directly from the text. Thus, you create a comprehensive resource that helps you strengthen your learning and prepare for exams.
A.But don’t use too much highlighting
B.Before class, ensure you have all necessary materials ready
C.Always bring a small notebook for random thoughts to class
D.The “question, answer, evidence” method is highly effective
E.Try to use at least two types of digital tools in your note-taking
F.Start each class on a fresh page, date it, and write only on one side
G.Then, restate these pieces of information in your own words when taking notes
Passage 3
How to eat and drink fewer microplastics
Microplastics are everywhere. They’re in your liver, blood and even in your brain, and they’re almost impossible to avoid. 41 Here are four ways to reduce your exposure in what you eat and drink.
42
Drinking bottled water could be introducing you to thousands of microscopic pieces of plastic. In fact, bottled water is the biggest pathway to microplastic exposure. Researchers have found that an average liter of bottled water contains about 240,000 plastic particles (微粒). Switching from bottled water to filtered tap water has the potential to reduce microplastic intake.
Avoid plastic food containers.
Using plastic is often unavoidable, but there are many ways to reduce your food’s interaction with plastics, and that includes the plastic storage containers, said experts. 43 That could be as simple as buying butter in a glass container.
Use glass in heated conditions.
One study found that microwaving food in plastic containers and reusable food bags could release more than 4 million microplastic particles per cm² in just three minutes. Heat causes microplastics to get into your food, so avoid putting hot food into plastic packaging. 44
Avoid highly processed foods.
45 One study found microplastics in all 16 protein products that researchers sampled. Of the products tested, breaded shrimp had the highest concentrations of plastic particles. Highly processed chicken nuggets contained 30 times as many microplastics per gram as chicken breasts.
A.Choose to drink clean tap water.
B.Avoid plastic shopping bags.
C.Highly processed foods contain lots of microplastics.
D.Wash fruits and vegetables with warm water before eating.
E.Fortunately, some steps can be taken to reduce your exposure.
F.And make sure that it’s not stored in sunlight or other warm environments.
G.They also urge people to replace food in plastic containers with other choices.
Passage 4
How middle school students can shoulder family responsibilities
As middle school students, learning to take on family responsibilities is key to the growth and fostering a harmonious home environment. Here are practical ways to contribute meaningfully within the family.Manage individual space and chores (琐事)
Start by maintaining your own space. Make your bed daily, organize your study area, and keep your clothes tidy. These habits cultivate self-discipline. 46 . For example, wash dishes, take out the trash, or help with grocery lists. Every small effort eases the family workload.Develop effective communication skills
47 . Share your school experiences, joys, and concerns during meals or family time. When disagreements arise, listen actively to others’ perspectives. For example, if your parents limit your screen time, discuss your feelings calmly instead of arguing. This approach resolves conflicts and deepens relationships. 48
When family members face difficulties, extend a helping hand. Comfort a younger sibling struggling with homework, or offer to run errands for busy parents. Simple acts show your thoughtfulness and strengthen familial bonds.Take charge of your growth
Set clear study goals, complete assignments on time, and participate actively in school activities. 49 . Maintaining a healthy lifestyle — exercising regularly, eating well, and getting enough sleep — also demonstrates self-management. By handling your affairs independently, you reduce parental worries.Always keep a grateful heart
Finally, express gratitude often. On special occasions, create handmade cards or prepare simple meals for your family. 50 . These gestures of appreciation make your loved ones feel valued and reinforce the importance of family connections.
A.Prioritize school grades
B.Be ready to provide help
C.These small acts have a big impact
D.Then, gradually take on shared household chores
E.These show your commitment to self-improvement
F.Open communication is the foundation of a strong family
G.However, balancing study and leisure is equally important
Passage 5
How to age gracefully?
As we age, it is natural to experience changes in our bodies and minds. 51 . By taking care of our bodies and minds, we can age gracefully and enjoy good health and happiness. Here are some tips for aging in a healthy and graceful way!
Prioritize (给……优先权) self-care
To start with, it’s vital that you put yourself and self-care first! This is important at any stage of life. And you will thank yourself later for starting early. Practicing self-care can look different for everyone. 52 . Self care can take the form of doing regular exercise, getting plenty of sleep or simply taking time for yourself.
Stay active
Regular exercise is important in maintaining good health, physically and mentally. While important throughout our lives, it can be easy as we age to want to stop exercising. 53 . As long as you are getting your body moving, you’ll be helping yourself out.
Connect and socialize
54 . We must remember that maintaining social connections is crucial for our mental and physical health. You can consider joining a club or sports team to make friends. You never know who you will meet and may find some new like-minded people.
Embrace your age
Instead of fighting the natural changes that come with getting older, embrace your age and all that comes with it. 55 . And don’t be afraid to try new things or take risks. It’s totally fine to try to keep your skin looking healthy. But remember, everyone gets older!
A.Just make sure you are doing things you enjoy.
B.Remember, this is the time that you should take exercise.
C.Celebrate the wisdom and experience that you have gained.
D.Enough sleep is essential for overall health and well-being.
E.However, aging doesn’t have to mean a decline in health or energy.
F.It’s never too late to invest more time in your health and well being.
G.As we get older, it gets easier to separate ourselves from others and stay indoors.
Passage 6
Use Body Language to Build Trust
Body language can help people see you as more trustworthy, resulting in stronger relationships at home, work and school. 56
Keep eye contact when someone is talking. It will help build trust because it shows real interest. 57 Building stronger human ties makes it easier to trust people and know more about them.
Uncross your arms and legs. You might only be crossing your arms and legs because you’re cold. However, that will close you off. You’re unknowingly communicating something negative because you’ve positioned your body in a way that blocks any basis for building trust. Make sure your body looks open. 58
Don’t sit behind a desk. 59 According to Professor Carla Chamberlin-Quinlisk, sitting at a table with her students encourages them to be more vocal during class. So try the smart way to get your boss to trust you.
60 Sometimes notes are necessary when you’re talking to a coworker, but make sure all that doesn’t get in the way of your eye contact. If you’re constantly writing down what the other person says, that person could start feeling self-conscious. What’s more, taking notes makes the other person feel uncomfortable. And they may question like “Why are they writing that down?”
A.Thus, you’ll look more open to hearing others’ thoughts.
B.Sitting behind a desk could make the person you’re talking to put his or her own walls up.
C.So put your phone down and listen with your eyes.
D.Nod and smile while someone is talking.
E.Limit your own note taking.
F.Although some gestures vary across cultures, there’re certain basic body language gestures.
G.Unfortunately, most people have no training on how to read body language.

Passage 1
How to Avoid Meaningless Social Interactions
In today’s world, we often find ourselves trapped in tiring social circles that are using up our energy. Learning to identify and avoid meaningless interactions is crucial for mental well-being. Here are some practical strategies.
61 Before attending any social event, ask yourself: “Does this agree with my values?” or “Will this help me grow?” If you’re attending just out of obligation (义务), it’s likely an unworthy commitment. Psychologists suggest that 70% of social tiredness comes from activities we didn’t genuinely want to join.
Quality Over Quantity. Having hundreds of so-called friends doesn’t equal true connection. 62 A Cambridge University study shows that people with 3-5 deep friendships report higher life satisfaction than those with dozens of so- called ones. Invest time in relationships that inspire growth each other.
Master the Art of saying No. The fear of missing out often pushes us into unwanted gatherings. 63 Politely declining invitations with simple statements like “I have other priorities” is perfectly acceptable. Remember, every “yes” to others is a “no” to yourself.
Digital Detoxification (数字排毒). Social media creates fantasy of obligation. 64 Schedule specific time to check messages instead of responding immediately. Research indicates that limiting social media use to 30 minutes daily significantly reduces anxiety.
Embrace Staying alone. 65 Regular staying alone allows for self-reflection and recharging. Historical figures like Newton and Kefka produced their best work during periods of being alone. Start with short walks or coffee breaks alone to rediscover the joy of your own company.
A.Being alone doesn’t mean being lonely.
B.Practice setting boundaries without guilt.
C.Prioritize activities that bring personal fulfillment.
D.Evaluate the purpose of social engagement s beforehand.
E.Stop following accounts that cause negative comparisons.
F.Instead, focus on developing a few meaningful relationships.
G.Many online interactions are performative rather than genuine.
Passage 2
How to Improve Your Social Life?
Being social can help you build meaningful connections, come out of your shell, and feel less isolated. If you want to know how to be social, see the following steps to be on your way.
Be fully engaged. If you want to seem interesting to others, you will have to show interest in them. When you are talking to somebody, listen to what they are saying rather than worrying about what you should be saying. 66 Avoid constantly checking your phone or looking around while you are in the middle of a conversation. These types of things come across as rude.
Watch your gestures. How you position your body sends a message to other people. If you want to be approached by others, you should avoid standing in the corner, crossing your arms, staring at your phone, and frowning. Making eye contact with others shows them that you are friendly, open, and non-intimidating. 67
Embrace opportunities to meet new people. This means you will have to get out of your comfort zone to interact with others. 68 Take trips to new places and strike up casual conversations with those you meet. You never know when a stranger can turn into your new best friend, business partner, or love interest!
69 If you are constantly waiting around for people to call you or invite you, then you are wasting your life. 70 If you want to show people that you value their friendships, you will have to reach out to them. Keep in touch with friends, even if you don’t live in the same town. Pick up the phone and call them, send them a text, or e-mail them asking how they’ve been.
A.Initiate interactions.
B.Fit in with the occasion.
C.Accept invitations to parties and social gatherings.
D.You’ll be more likely to stir up positive interactions.
E.Plus, everybody looks more attractive when they smile.
F.Relationships are built upon joint efforts of both involved.
G.Make eye contact, nod your head, and ask them follow-up questions.
Passage 3
When your friend is going through a crisis, whether it’s a break-up or an illness, you will want to be there to support and encourage them. The following are some tips for you.
71 . People need to tell their stories especially if they’re going through a crisis. Sometimes you’re going to have opinions about their situation. However, it isn’t always necessary to share the advice. Of course, you can ask if they would like your advice. 72 .
Offer practical help. Instead of offering advice, what you can offer is some actual help. This is what someone struggling to deal with a difficult situation truly needs. 73 . For example, you can help them out with some housework like helping clean their house, or take their dog for a walk.
Let your friend deal with their emotions in their own time. 74 . One day your friend might be okay with the change and the next day they’re completely falling apart. So never say something like “It seemed like you were doing okay, what happened? ” or “Aren’t you sad enough? ”
Continue to check in. People have a tendency to be very concerned about someone immediately after their life falls apart, but fall away as time goes on. 75 . Make sure your friend knows that they can call on you if they need to, and that you keep up with how they’re doing.
A.Share your advice
B.Make sure you don’t do this
C.Listen to them without judgment
D.Even doing some little things can make a difference
E.But don’t be surprised if that isn’t what they’re really after
F.Let your family members know you are here to support them
G.Emotions involved in difficult life changes tend to come in waves

Sign up for a three-hour walk with Spoon Food Tours and get to know locals’ favourites for coffee, snacks and meals served at family-run businesses. The morning kicks off at Don Ruiz Coffee Shop. Try the mallorca, a kind of sweet pastry (油酥糕点), and wash it down with a cup of single origin coffee harvested from the 19th-century Ruiz plantation. 87
Learn Afro-Puerto Rican culture in Loíza
The seaside town of Loíza in the Piñones region, a 20-minute drive east of San Juan, is known as the heart of Afro-Puerto Rican culture. Its outdoor drawings feature Afro-boricua women in colourful head wraps and loose dresses, while the interior shines with an open stage for dancing. 88 At the back, a boardwalk attracts hikers and bikers.
Join Local Guest’s community experiences
89 Founders Carmen Portela and Monica Perez’s aim is to direct visitors towards culture and nature-rich communities, in turn providing the areas with a sustainable income. Unique experiences include caving, taking a pottery workshop or kayaking Puerto Rico’s longest river. Local Guest also runs a non-profit programme, which matches small volunteer groups with a variety of established community-based ongoing restoration (修复) projects for long-term impact.
90
An encouraging start from larger hotels, the new Puerto Rican owned Finca Victoria is a two-and-a-half-acre botanical farm guesthouse lying in the hills at the heart of the island. Passage 1
Nowadays, young people’s attitude towards the value of money has changed dramatically, and their spending ways have changed as well. 91 , but does this mean they’re entirely at a loss when it comes to managing money? Let’s take a closer look.
●Financial awareness gaps exist.
A Singapore study shows a mixed result among young people. While many have established emergency funds and practiced budgeting, half have no retirement savings plans. 92 . Clearly, although financial awareness is increasing, there’s a long way to go to achieve financial well-being.
● 93 .
Money often becomes an abstract concept for young people. Consider the case of an 11-year-old in the UK who spent £2000 on an online game. More similar cases are happening with invisible money going popular. This lack of physical money can lead to financial risks in families.
●Home-based financial education is necessary.
Fortunately, financial management skills are not something one is born with but can be learnt. At home, parents can set good examples. 94 , so they can use tools like piggy banks, savings accounts, or even financial management apps to plant the importance of money in their children.
●School and government should support.
Schools and governments also play a crucial part. In Sweden, students learn about financial planning for life events. Denmark makes financial education required for certain grades. Singapore’s Money Sense campaign provides resources for the young. 95 .
In conclusion, despite the challenges presented by the cashless era, if home, school and government work together, young people can indeed learn to value and manage money well.
A.Cashless society poses challenges
B.They’re more likely to make wise choices
C.Children can understand basic money concepts
D.These examples show the institutions’ joint efforts
E.Some young people show unwise financial actions
F.People will see a divide between present and future finances
G.This reveals many overlook the significance of saving money
Passage 2
The comparison thief loves to slip into our minds without warning and steal our joy or peace. And with social media flooding our lives, it’s easier than ever to find someone “better” to compare ourselves to. 96 In it, we always lose. We either walk away feeling inadequate or get a false sense of fulfillment, believing we are better than others. I constantly struggled with this battle. My personal tips and experiences are as follows
97 I learned the art of seeking inward. At the start of each day, I told myself to love and appreciate myself and give myself confidence instead of looking to others to do that. Getting your mindset right at the beginning of the day sets you up for a successful day of less comparison.
Restrict social media time. I stopped following social media accounts that made me feel inadequate or insecure and set a boundary about my time on those apps. 98 Set a timer if you must. Better yet, put your phone down and engage with the people whose opinion truly matters.
Accept the real self. One of the biggest things that helped me stop comparing myself was finding out who I was and accepting myself. When witnessing my friend’s gorgeous and well-organized house, I naturally tended to compare mine with hers. 99 We are all imperfect beings deserving of love, respect, and appreciation. Celebrating the other person and accepting myself was the opportunity to start again with the truth.
Be present. I began to train my mind to trust that I did not need to plan, control, and schedule everything. 100 I wouldn’t worry about recording a moment for others to see. Instead. I would choose to focus on seeing and appreciating it for myself.
A.Reset my mind.
B.Build confidence.
C.All I needed to do was living in the moment.
D.What I needed to prepare was a present for her
E.Feelings of failure instantly arose, but I’ve accepted my humanity.
F.They can become a wormhole and waste the precious time we have
G.Constantly measuring ourselves against others can be an exhausting mind game.
Passage 3
As a baby, Jack’s remarkable swimming journey began. At ten months, he already practiced with swim aids. At six, he won his first swimming competition in a group for kids ten-and-under. At seven, he stayed at the pool from nine in the morning till eight hours later. His mother, recognizing his gift, took it as her duty to guide him. 101 By a young age, Jack had been ranked the number one swimmer of the country, a title he held for a record-breaking duration.
102 He played skiing, tennis, soccer, and many more. Sam was a kid who loved to play, and his parents had no particular athletic ambitions for him. It was nearing his teens that he began to focus more on basketball. 103 In his mid-thirties, an age by which many professional basketball players are typically retired, Sam was still in the national basketball team.
Top athletes like Jack at the peak of their abilities do spend more time on focused, deliberate practice than their peers. But scientists also find that potential champions typically devote less time to deliberate practice in childhood, but more to “sampling” various activities. 104
In a world that demands people to specialize early, we face a challenge to keep the benefits of diverse experiences and delayed concentration. There’s a need for those with Jack’s early focus. 105 — People who start with many different things and accept various experiences.
A.There was no time to waste.
B.And it was all going according to plan.
C.The growing complexity of the world also calls for more Sams.
D.But it didn’t seem to hold back his development in the long run.
E.In reality, Sam’s path to success is far more common, yet less told.
F.However, Sam showed no interest in swimming as a kid.
G.Unlike the swimming talent, Sam’s early years were filled with a variety of sports.

1.根据下文“One of the toughest parts about starting a new running routine is managing your expectations. Before you set out with this new routine, remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. (开始一个新的跑步计划最困难的部分之一是管理你的期望。在你开始这个新的日常训练之前,请记住,罗马不是一天建成的)”可知,本段主要讲述要合理期待,不要急于求成,B选项“为自己设定合理的期望”符合语境,适合作为本段小标题。故选B。
2.根据上文“Start slow — try to run at a pace where it feels as though you’re using 60-percent of your overall energy and ability. Keep that pace throughout your first few runs, though feel free to increase or decrease your speeds if necessary. (开始时要慢 —— 试着以一种感觉你只使用了60%的总体能量和能力的速度跑步。在最初的几次跑步中保持这个速度,不过如果有必要的话,可以随意加快或减慢速度)”可知,本段主要讲述开始跑步时要慢,不要过度消耗自己的能量,E选项“不要在最初的几次跑步中过度运动,尤其是如果你是这项运动的新手的话”承接上文,进一步说明不要过度运动,符合语境。故选E。
3.根据上文“One of the biggest mistakes new runners make is trying to run for a long distance without taking any breaks or beating themselves up for having to take such breaks. (新跑步者犯的最大错误之一就是试图长距离跑步而不休息,或者因为不得不休息而自责)”以及下文“And doing so is just fine. (这样做是可以的)”可知,空处应是针对上文提到的“新跑步者长距离跑步不休息或因为休息而自责”的情况给出建议,即要接受休息,C选项“所以,重要的是要接受你需要休息的事实)”符合语境。故选C。
4.根据本段小标题“Plan Your Route Ahead of Time (提前规划好你的路线)”以及下文“So, think carefully about your route before heading out on your run. Be aware of possible obstacles and how you can get around them. Be reasonable with your expectations, but use a distance that will make you feel good about completing your run. (所以,在开始跑步之前,要仔细考虑你的路线。注意可能的障碍物以及如何绕过它们。对你的期望要合理,但要选择一个能让你完成跑步后感觉良好的距离)”可知,本段主要讲述要提前规划好跑步路线,G选项“新跑步者有时在出门前没有为自己设定路线”符合语境,引出下文对于提前规划路线的具体说明。故选G。
5.根据上文“New runners often make the mistake of hitting the sidewalk without gearing up with the right equipment. That doesn’t mean they should go out and buy expensive running shoes or headphones. (新跑步者经常犯的错误是没有准备好合适的装备就开始在人行道上跑步。这并不意味着他们应该出去买昂贵的跑鞋或耳机)”可知,本段主要讲述要穿合适的装备跑步,上文提到不一定要买昂贵的跑鞋或耳机,空处应是说明应该穿什么样的装备,F选项“相反,新跑步者应该专注于穿能让自己感到舒适的衣服”符合语境。故选F。
【答案】6.C 7.A 8.F 9.G 10.D
6.上文“Maybe you’re hoping to use professional movers.(也许你希望雇用专业的搬家工人)”及下文“Especially in the peak moving season, truck rentals, hourly moving services, and cross-country moving companies book up quickly.(尤其是在搬家高峰期,卡车租赁、按小时计费的搬家服务以及跨国搬家公司很快就会被预订一空)”说明雇用搬家工人需要提前预订,空处承上启下,C选项中的“them”指代上文中的“professional movers”,说明预订搬家工人应是首要任务,下文是对此的解释,所以C选项“预订他们应该是你的首要任务”,符合语境。故选C。
7.下文“Even though you’re on a deadline, if you can stay organized packing for a move, it’ll save you time because you’ll only have to transport the stuff you want and need. As you work through each room, sort the things into the categories like “donate”, “get rid of”, and “keep”.(即使你时间紧迫,如果你能在搬家时保持有条理的打包,这会节省你的时间,因为你只需要运输你想要和需要的东西。当你整理每个房间时,把东西分类,比如“捐赠”、“扔掉”和“保留”)”说明搬家时要对物品进行分类,空处位于段首,应是本段的主题句,A选项中的“Sort”与下文中的“sort”相呼应,所以A选项“整理你的物品”能够概括本段主旨,符合语境。故选A。
8.上文“Labeling each box will streamline the unpacking process. Make sure to label boxes with where they’ll go in your new home, not where they came from in your old house.(给每个箱子贴上标签会使拆箱过程更加高效。一定要在箱子上标明它们在新家的位置,而不是在旧房子里的位置)”说明给箱子贴标签要标明在新家的位置,空处承接上文,说明这样做的好处,F选项中的“the right room”与上文中的“where they’ll go in your new home”相呼应,所以F选项“这样,搬家工人就能很容易地把东西搬到正确的房间”,符合语境。故选F。

That way, you can give them clear instructions like “take that pile to the trash can” or “box everything in this cabinet (柜橱).”(如果你足够幸运,有朋友和家人的帮助,在你整理好之前不要让他们出现。
10.上文“If you’re hiring movers, one of the most important packing tips for moving is to read your contract.(如果你雇了搬家工人,搬家最重要的打包建议之一就是阅读你的合同)”及下文“They may include things that are breakable, oversized, or extremely difficult to move. Make sure you know ahead of time what they’re willing to move and what they’re not.(它们可能包括易碎、过大或极难移动的东西。确保你提前知道他们愿意搬什么,不愿意搬什么)”说明阅读合同时要注意合同中对物品的限制,空处承上启下,应说明合同中可能存在的限制,引出后文具体的限制物品类型,D选项中的“it”指代上文中的“contract”,说明合同中经常有对某些类型物品的限制,下文是对此的解释,所以D选项“合同中经常有对某些类型物品的限制”,符合语境。故选D。
【答案】11.G 12.E 13.B 14.D 15.C

12.根据上文“In today’s world, emojis have become increasingly popular.(在当今世界,表情符号越来越受欢迎)” 及下文“People like them because they add emotional meaning and are quick and easy to use.(人们喜欢它们是因为它们增加了情感意义,而且使用快速简便)” 可推知,选项上启下,引出后文对表情符号优势的阐述,说明其受欢迎的原因。
13.根据下文“For example, if a friend is moving away, you might send crying faces instead of struggling to find the right words.(例如,如果一个朋友要搬走,你可能会发送哭泣的表情符号,而不是费力去找到合适的话语)” 可推知,选项引出后文例子,说明表情符号在语言表达困难时能起到作用。
14.根据上文“The influence of emojis has spread beyond daily communication.(表情符号的影响已经超出日常交流)” 及下文 “A Shakespeare series for young readers has replaced some words with emojis to make the classics more accessible.(面向年轻读者的莎士比亚系列用表情符号取代了一些单词,使经典作品更容易理解)” 可推知,选项承上启下,说明表情符号影响超出日常交流,具体到进入经典文学,引出后文莎士比亚系列的例子。
16.前文提到“Over the last decade, STEM-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math - has become increasingly defined as the symbol of development, success, and progress. Incoming college students are increasingly choosing majors like computer science, biology, and engineering, even if some of them are not particularly interested in those subjects. (在过去的十年里,STEM——科学、技术、工程和数学——越来越被定义为发展、成功和进步的象征。即将入学的大学生越来越多地选择计算机科学、生物学和工程学等专业,即使他们中的一些人对这些学科并不特别感兴趣)”说明学生选择STEM专业成为一种趋势,D选项“不管怎样,这似乎对他们未来来说是‘正确’的选择。”承接上文,解释了学生选择STEM专业的原因,符合语境。故选D。
17.前文“However, this has subsequently left liberal arts and the importance of the field behind. (然而,这随后将文科和该领域的重要性抛在了后面)”提到STEM的盛行使文科及其重要性被忽视,后文“To answer the question, we need to consider what liberal arts are. (要回答这个问题,我们需要考虑文科是什么)”说明此处提出了一个问题,B选项“在以STEM为主导的世界里,文科还重要吗?”符合语境,引出后文对文科的探讨。故选B。
18.前文“This is mainly due to the fact that a liberal arts education teaches students important soft, social skills, including clear and effective communication, error - free writing, problem - solving, and successful data analysis, among others. (这主要是因为文科教育教会学生重要的软技能和社会技能,包括清晰有效的沟通、无错误的写作、解决问题和成功的数据分析等)”说明文科教育能教会学生重要技能,C选项“这些技能是一个好员工应该具备的。”承接上文,进一步强调这些技能的重要性,符合语境。故选C。
19.前文“In addition, students in liberal arts possess the most important characteristic of being more human. What they learn brings them distinctive social insights. (此外,文科学生具有最重要的更人性化的特点。他们所学的东西给他们带来了独特的社会洞察力)”说明文科学生有独特的特点,E选项“这种特质通常无法从基于STEM的教育中获得。”承接上文,将文科学生与STEM教育进行对比,符合语境。故选E。
20.前文“As society continues to evolve, and people’s needs and wants continue to change, merely sticking to practical, baseline solutions will not work. That’s exactly where liberal arts come in. (随着社会的不断发展,人们的需求和愿望不断变化,仅仅坚持实用的、基本的解决方案是行不通的。这正是文科的用武之地)”说明文科在社会发展中有重要作用,后文“And that’s the beauty and importance of liberal arts.(这就是文科的美丽和重要性)”强调了人文学科的价值。F选项“这就是为什么文科和STEM对一个进步的社会都很重要。”起到了承上启下的作用,总结全文,点明主旨,符合语境。故选F。

【答案】21.D 22.A 23.B 24.F 25.E
21.根据上文“Some pals and I were in the midst of a pinball competition at a bar the other night when the machine kept breaking down. We called over a very busy employee who’s responsible for helping keep the place running. He put everything aside to fix our problematic pinball machine twice.(前几天晚上,我和几个朋友在一家酒吧里进行弹珠台比赛,但机器总是出故障。于是我们叫来了一位非常忙碌的员工,他是负责维持酒吧正常运营的。他两次放下手头的工作,来修理我们那台出问题的弹珠台)”以及后文“A couple of the guys immediately objected, saying the employee was just doing the job he was paid to do. I insisted and got the group to agree to the plan, although somewhat reluctantly.(有几个人立刻提出了反对意见,他们认为这名员工只是在履行他所受雇应尽的职责。但我坚持自己的观点,并最终说服了大家同意这个计划,尽管大家还是有些不太情愿)”可知,上文提到了叫来了维修工维修弹珠台,后文说明“有几个人立刻提出了反对意见”,推测本句是在说明作者的提议,故D选项“我提议我们给他 10 美元小费,然后大家分摊这笔小费。”符合语境,故选D。
22.根据上文“My pinball fix er didn’t stretch out his hand, but how many times have we run across those payment screens that suggest a 20% tip for being handed a sandwich we ordered?(我的那位弹球游戏爱好者并没有伸手付款,但我们又曾多少次遇到过那种支付界面,上面会提示我们为收到的那份我们点的三明治支付20%的小费呢?)”以及后文“There is data to back up the trend: 66% of American adults have a negative view of tipping, and 32% say they’re sick of those payment-screen hints, according to a recent Bankrate survey.(有数据可以证明这一趋势:根据贝克瑞特银行近期的一项调查,66%的美国成年人对给小费持负面看法,而32%的人表示已经厌倦了那些支付界面的提示信息)”可知,后文提到了“66%的美国成年人对给小费持负面看法,而32%的人表示已经厌倦了那些支付界面的提示信息”,推测本句主要说明提示付小费导致了人们的厌烦现象。
23.根据后文“I admit there are times I suspect the tipping thing has gone too far — say, when I’m at a self-checkout line and there’s still request to leave something extra. But I’m generally willing to err on the side of caution: If someone is expecting a tip, I’ll assume they have financial reasons to do so.(我承认有时候我会怀疑这种给小费的做法有些过头了——比如,当我在自助结账通道排队时,对方还要求额外留下一些钱。但总体来说,我还是倾向于谨慎行事:如果有人期待得到小费,那我就会认为他们这么做是有经济上的原因的)”可知,本段主要是作者在分析自己给小费的原因,本句针对后文的原因给出设问句,故B选项“那么,为什么我会违背常规,同意给他这笔钱呢?”符合语境,故选B。
24.根据上文“But I’m generally willing to err on the side of caution: If someone is expecting a tip, I’ll assume they have financial reasons to do so.(但总体来说,我还是倾向于谨慎行事:如果有人期待得到小费,那我就会认为他们这么做是有经济上的原因的)”可知,上文提到作者给小费是因为认为对方需要这笔钱,本句为本段最后一句,承接上文,具体说明作者给小费的动机,故F选项“一两美元不会决定我的经济状况是好是坏,但这或许能帮他们付点房租。”
25.根据上文“Plus, tipping is good karma (因果报应). It’s always worth it to tip in unexpected situations — ones that don’t necessarily involve a hint on a payment screen.(此外,给小费也是一种因果报应。在任何意想不到的情况下给小费都是值得的——即便这些情况并不一定是在支付界面有提示的情况下发生的)”以及后文“He was so grateful for the $10 tip that later that night, he rewarded our group with well more than $10 in free tokens (代金券) for future play.(他对于那10美元的小费感激不尽。当晚,他便用远超10美元的免费筹码作为回报,赠予我们整个团队用于日后的游戏消费)”可知,后文提到了对10美元的小费感激不尽,推测本句是在引出后文修理工对小费的反应话题。故E选项“那么,酒吧里的那个弹球机维修工接下来又发生了什么?”符合语境,故选E。
【答案】26.A 27.F 28.G 29.C 30.D

【答案】36.B 37.D 38.F 39.A 40.G
B项“Before class, ensure you have all necessary materials ready (课前确保准备好所有必要材料)”直接回应“Be Prepared”这一要求,“Before class”点明时间节点,“necessary materials”具体指“notebooks, pens, or a charged laptop” ,后续“Review previous notes”进一步说明知识层面的准备,所以B项从物资准备切入,开启“课前全方位准备”的论述,符合“标题统领-具体措施展开”的逻辑结构。故选B项。
37.由上文“When taking notes, prioritize key words, concepts and ‘new’ information. Avoid writing down every single word. Instead, get the main idea of what’s being taught.(记笔记时,优先关注关键词、概念和‘新’信息。避免逐字记录,而是要领会所教内容的主旨)”及下文“Make questions based on the material, answer them in your own words, and support them with examples.(基于材料提出问题,用自己的话回答,并举例支持)”可知,此部分围绕有效记录笔记的方法展开。
38.由上文“Visual organization makes reviewing easier.(视觉化的组织方式能让复习变得更轻松)”及下文“Use wide margins for additional notes and add symbols like arrows or boxes to highlight connections between ideas.(使用宽页边距添加额外注释,并添加箭头或方框等符号突出观点间的联系)”可知,该部分着重介绍视觉化整理笔记的具体方式。
39.由下文“because it won’t work as well if you do.(因为如果你那样做,效果就不好了)”可知,此处需说明使用颜色标注笔记时的注意事项。A项“But don’t use too much highlighting.(但不要使用过多荧光笔标注)”中“don’t use too much”与上文“Using different colors with pens or highlighters can also help you remember better.(使用不同颜色的笔或荧光笔也能帮助你更好地记忆)”形成转折关系,在肯定颜色标注作用的同时,通过but引出使用限度的提醒,“won’t work as well”进一步解释了“使用过多荧光笔标注”的负面效果,前后逻辑连贯,从正反两方面完善了关于颜色辅助笔记这一方法的阐述。故选A项。
40.由上文“After a class or a lecture, enrich your notes with information from textbooks or other resources. Quickly understand the main points of the material by reading titles, introductions, conclusions, and the first and last sentences of paragraphs.(课后,用课本或其他资源中的信息丰富笔记。通过阅读标题、引言、结论以及段落的首尾句快速理解材料要点)”及下文“Avoid copying full sentences directly from the text.(避免直接从文本中抄写完整句子)”可知,此段主要讲如何合理整合教材等资源到笔记中。G项“Then, restate these pieces of information in your own words when taking notes.(然后,记笔记时用自己的话重新表述这些信息)”中“restate in your own words”承接上文“enrich your notes”,明确了整合资源的正确方式,即对获取的信息进行自主转化,与“avoid copying”形成对比,强调了独立思考、内化知识的重要性,“then”起到衔接步骤的作用,使“获取信息-转化信息-整理笔记” 的流程完整且逻辑清晰。故选G项。

【答案】61.D 62.F 63.B 64.G 65.A
61.根据下文“Before attending any social event, ask yourself: ‘Does this agree with my values?’ or ‘Will this help me grow?’ If you’re attending just out of obligation (义务), it’s likely an unworthy commitment.(在参加任何社交活动之前,问问自己:‘这符合我的价值观吗?’或者‘这会帮助我成长吗?’如果你只是出于义务去参加,那很可能是一个不值得的承诺)”提到在参加社交活动前,应该问自己:“这符合我的价值观?”或“这能帮助我成长吗?”,并指出如果只是出于义务参加,可能是不值得的。这与选项D“提前评估社交活动的目的”完全契合。关键词匹配:Before attending any social event, ask yourself...对应Evaluate the purpose... beforehand。故选D。

64.根据空前内容“Social media creates fantasy of obligation.(社交媒体创造了了虚假的义务感)”可知,社交媒体制造了“虚假的义务感”(fantasy of obligation),下文“Schedule specific time to check messages instead of responding immediately. Research indicates that limiting social media use to 30 minutes daily significantly reduces anxiety.(安排特定的时间来检查邮件,而不是立即回复。研究表明,将社交媒体的使用时间限制在每天30分钟可以显著减少焦虑)”建议减少即时回复通知。选项G“许多线上互动是表演性的而非真实的”解释了这种虚假感的来源,与上下文逻辑一致。关键词匹配:Social media creates fantasy of obligation 对应performative rather than genuine。故选G。
65.根据本段主题句“Embrace Staying alone.(拥抱独处)”和下文“Regular staying alone allows for self- reflection and recharging. Historical figures like Newton and Kefka produced their best work during periods of being alone.(经常独处可以让你自我反省和充电。像牛顿和卡夫卡这样的历史人物在独处的时候创作了他们最好的作品)”可知, 最后一段主题是“享受独处”,并举例牛顿、卡夫卡在独处中创造伟大作品。选项A“独处不等于孤独”是段落的核心观点,且与后文“Start with short walks or coffee breaks alone to rediscover the joy of your own company.(从一个人散步或喝咖啡开始,重新发现与自己相处的乐趣)”中“重新发现与自己相处的乐趣”呼应。关键词匹配:Embrace staying alone和joy of your own company对应Being alone doesn’t mean being lonely。故选A。

68.根据本段的主题句“Embrace opportunities to meet new people.(欣然接受结识新朋友的机会。)” 中的“parties and social gatherings”都是结识新朋友的场合,符合本段主题,且与空后的“Take trips to new places and strike up casual conversations with those you meet.(去新的地方旅行,和你遇到的人随便聊聊。)”

However, it isn’t always necessary to share the advice.
72.上文“Of course, you can ask if they would like your advice. (当然,你可以询问他们是否愿意接受你的建议。)”提示询问对方是否需要建议,E项“但如果这不是他们真正想要的,也不要感到惊讶”承接上文,表达了朋友可能不需要你的建议,符合语境。故选E项。
73.上文“Offer practical help. Instead of offering advice, what you can offer is some actual help. This is what someone struggling to deal with a difficult situation truly needs. (提供实际的帮助。与其提供建议,不如提供一些实际的帮助。这正是那些努力应对困难情况的人真正需要的。)”强调了实际行动比建议更有意义,下文“For example, you can help them out with some housework like helping clean their house, or take their dog for a walk. (例如,你可以帮助他们做一些家务,比如帮他们打扫房子,或者带他们的狗散步。)”给出了具体的帮助例子,D项“即使做一些小事也能产生影响”与上下文话题一致,强调即使是小事也能在朋友困难时期发挥重要作用,符合语境。故选D项。
74.上文“Let your friend deal with their emotions in their own time. (让你的朋友按照自己的时间处理他们的情绪。)”提及了给予朋友处理情绪的空间和时间,下文“One day your friend might be okay with the change and the next day they’re completely falling apart. So never say something like “It seemed like you were doing okay, what happened? ” or “Aren’t you sad enough? ” (可能有一天你的朋友对变化感到可以接受,而第二天他们又完全崩溃了。所以千万不要说诸如“你看起来好像没事了,发生什么了?”或“你还不够难过吗?”这样的话。)”给出了具体的错误示范,G项“涉及困难生活变化的情绪往往像波浪一样起伏不定”强调了情绪处理的复杂性和不确定性,Emotions和changes与上下文相呼应,符合语境。故选G项。
75.上文“Continue to check in. People have a tendency to be very concerned about someone immediately after their life falls apart, but fall away as time goes on. (继续关注。人们往往会在他人生活崩溃后立即表现出极大的关心,但随着时间推移,这种关心逐渐减少。)”描述了人们关心程度随时间减弱的普遍现象,下文“Make sure your friend knows that they can call on you if they need to, and that you keep up with how they’re doing. (确保你的朋友知道,如果他们需要,可以随时找你,并且你会持续关心他们的情况。)”指出正确的做法,B项“确保你不要那样做”承上启下,符合语境。故选B项。

(从小型的农场食材餐厅菜单到民宿住宿、社区旅游和波多黎各文化工作坊,波多黎各正在加强其可持续旅游的发展。)”以及下文列举的具体可持续旅行方式可知,此处应引出下文的可持续旅行指南。D选项“Here’s a guide to travelling Puerto Rico sustainably.
87.根据本段小标题“Food trip in Old San Juan (在圣胡安老城的美食之旅)”以及上文“Try the mallorca, a kind of sweet pastry (油酥糕点), and wash it down with a cup of single origin coffee harvested from the 19th-century Ruiz plantation. (尝尝马洛卡,一种甜油酥糕点,再配上一杯来自19世纪鲁伊斯种植园的单一产地咖啡。)”可知,此处介绍了食物之旅中可品尝的东西,由此可推断,此空应继续说明美食之旅的其他食物。E选项“In-season fruit juices and desserts are also part of this food trip. 主题04 社会问题与社会现象
【答案】91.E 92.G 93.A 94.B 95.D
91.上文“Nowadays, young people’s attitude towards the value of money has changed dramatically, and their spending ways have changed as well.(如今,年轻人对金钱价值的观念发生了巨大变化,他们的消费方式也发生了变化)”说明年轻人金钱观和消费行为的变化趋势。
92.上文“While many have established emergency funds and practiced budgeting, half have no retirement savings plans.(虽然许多人建立了应急基金并制定了预算,但一半的人没有退休储蓄计划)”说明年轻人理财行为的矛盾性——部分人积极储蓄,但另一部分人忽视长期规划。
93.下文“Money often becomes an abstract concept for young people. Consider the case of an 11-year-old in the UK who spent £2000 on an online game. More similar cases are happening with invisible money going popular. This lack of physical money can lead to financial risks in families.(金钱对年轻人来说往往是一个抽象的概念。以英国一名11岁的孩子为例,他花了2000英镑买了一款网络游戏。随着隐形货币的流行,越来越多的类似案例正在发生。缺乏实物资金可能会导致家庭财务风险)”说明无现金社会对年轻人金钱认知的影响。空处为小标题,需概括下文核心内容。所以A项“无现金社会带来挑战。”符合语境,准确概括下文主题。故选A。
94.上文“At home, parents can set good examples.(在家里,父母可以树立好榜样)”说明家庭金融教育的基础是父母的行为示范。空后“so they can use tools like piggy banks, savings accounts, or even financial management apps to plant the importance of money in their children.(因此,他们可以使用存钱罐、储蓄账户甚至财务管理应用程序等工具,向孩子灌输金钱的重要性)”说明向孩子灌输金钱的重要性的具体工具。 所以B项“他们更有可能做出明智的选择”符合语境,该项中的They指代前文中的parents,“make wise choices”和下文中的“use tools like piggy banks, savings accounts, or even financial management apps”相呼应。故选B。
95.上文“In Sweden, students learn about financial planning for life events. Denmark makes financial education required for certain grades. Singapore’s Money Sense campaign provides resources for the young.(在瑞典,学生学习生活事件的财务规划。丹麦将金融教育列为某些年级的必修课。新加坡的“金钱意识”运动为年轻人提供资源)”列举了瑞典、丹麦、新加坡在金融教育方面的具体措施。空处和前文为总结关系,概括这些措施的共同意义。所以D项“这些例子表明了机构的共同努力。”符合语境,该项中的“the institutions’ joint efforts”和标题的“School and government should support.”
【答案】96.G 97.A 98.F 99.E 100.C
96.根据上句“And with social media flooding our lives, it’s easier than ever to find someone “better” to compare ourselves to.(随着社交媒体充斥着我们的生活,如今要找到一个“更优秀”的人来与自己作比较比以往任何时候都更容易。)”和下句“In it, we always lose.(在其中,我们总是失败。)” G. Constantly measuring ourselves against others can be an exhausting mind game.(总是拿自己与他人进行比较,这无疑是一种令人疲惫不堪的自我较量游戏。)
根据下文“I learned the art of seeking inward. At the start of each day, I told myself to love and appreciate myself and give myself confidence instead of looking to others to do that. Getting your mindset right at the beginning of the day sets you up for a successful day of less comparison.(我学会了自我探索的技巧。每天伊始,我都会告诉自己要爱自己、欣赏自己,并给自己信心,而不是指望他人来做到这些。在一天开始时保持正确的心态,会让你拥有一个没有过多比较的成功的一天。) ”可知,该段主要讲述了要在一天的开始重置自己的心态。故选项A. Reset my mind.(重置我的心态。) 故选A。
98.根据上句“I stopped following social media accounts that made me feel inadequate or insecure and set a boundary about my time on those apps.(我不再关注那些让我感到自己不够好或缺乏安全感的社交媒体账号,并且为自己在这些应用上的使用时间设定了限制。)”和下句“Set a timer if you must.(如果一定要的话,可以设置一个计时器。)可知,空处应该强调了这些应用所带来的负面影响;选项F. They can become a wormhole and waste the precious time we have.(它们可能会变成虫洞,浪费我们宝贵的时间。)中的“They”指代上句中的“those apps”,描述了它们的危害,承上启下,语意连贯。故选F。
99.根据上句“When witnessing my friend’s gorgeous and well-organized house, I naturally tended to compare mine with hers.(当看到我朋友那漂亮且井井有条的家时,我自然而然地就会将自己的家与她的家进行比较。)”和下句“We are all imperfect beings deserving of love, respect, and appreciation.(我们都是不完美的个体,但同样值得被爱、被尊重和被欣赏。)” E. Feelings of failure instantly arose, but I’ve accepted my humanity.(瞬间涌起了一种挫败感,但我已经接受了自己作为普通人的身份。)
I began to train my mind to trust that I did not need to plan, control, and schedule everything.(活在当下。我开始努力训练自己的思维,让自己相信并不需要去规划、控制和安排一切事情。)”和下文“I wouldn’t worry about recording a moment for others to see. Instead. I would choose to focus on seeing and appreciating it for myself.(我不必为记录下某个瞬间以便让他人观看而感到担忧。相反,我更愿意选择专注于亲自去感受和欣赏它。)”可知,空处应该表达我要做的事情是专注当下,活在当下;故选项C. All I needed to do was living in the moment.(我所需要做的就是活在当下。)
101.根据上文“His mother, recognizing his gift, took it as her duty to guide him. (他的母亲发现了他的天赋,便将引导他视为己任。)”和下文“By a young age, Jack had been ranked the number one swimmer of the country, a title he held for a record-breaking duration. (杰克年纪轻轻就成为了全国游泳冠军,并且这一头衔保持了创纪录的时间。)”可知,本空要表达母亲认识到杰克的天赋后,如何指导他,以及杰克如何取得全国排名第一的游泳运动员称号。根据下文杰克取得的成绩,可以看出母亲的指导非常有效,一切都在按照计划进行。选项B“And it was all going according to plan. (一切都在按计划进行。)”既呼应了母亲的引导,又引出后续杰克的成功,能承上启下。故选B。
102.根据下文“He played skiing, tennis, soccer, and many more. Sam was a kid who loved to play, and his parents had no particular athletic ambitions for him. (他玩滑雪、网球、足球等等。山姆是个热爱运动的孩子,他的父母对他没有特别的运动抱负。)”可知,本空需引出“山姆” 这一人物,并与上文杰克专注游泳的经历形成对比,点明山姆早期运动的多样性。选项G“Unlike the swimming talent, Sam’s early years were filled with a variety of sports. (与那位游泳天才不同的是,山姆的早年生活充满了各种各样的运动。)”通过对比杰克,引出山姆的经历,统领本段内容,并引出下文,符合题意。故选G。
103.根据上文“It was nearing his teens that he began to focus more on basketball. (直到快到十几岁时,他才开始更加专注于篮球。)”和下文“In his mid-thirties, an age by which many professional basketball players are typically retired, Sam was still in the national basketball team. (在山姆三十多岁的时候,这个年龄正是许多职业篮球运动员通常退役的年纪,但他仍然在国家篮球队中。)”可知,此处描述山姆在篮球方面的成就,尽管他少年时没有专注,临近青少年才专注篮球,但这并未阻碍他的长远发展。选项D“But it didn’t seem to hold back his development in the long run. (但从长远来看,这似乎并没有阻碍他的发展。)”恰好说明这个转折和强调,能承接上文,引出下文,符合题意。故选D。
104.根据上文“Top athletes like Jack at the peak of their abilities do spend more time on focused, deliberate practice than their peers. But scientists also find that potential champions typically devote less time to deliberate practice in childhood, but more to “sampling” various activities. (像杰克这样处于巅峰状态的顶级运动员,确实比同龄人花费更多的时间进行专注、有目的的训练。但科学家们也发现,有潜力的冠军在儿童时期通常投入较少的时间进行有目的的训练,而是更多地“尝试”各种活动。)”可知,科学家发现潜在的冠军通常在童年时花较少时间于刻意练习,而是更多地尝试各种活动。选项E“In reality, Sam’s path to success is far more common, yet less told. (事实上,山姆的成功之路其实更为普遍,只是鲜为人知。)”指出实际上像山姆这样的成功之路更为普遍,但却较少被提及,是对上文科学研究的总结和升华。故选E。
105.根据上文“In a world that demands people to specialize early, we face a challenge to keep the benefits of diverse experiences and delayed concentration. There’s a need for those with Jack’s early focus. (在一个要求人们尽早专业化的世界里,我们面临着保持多样化经验和延迟专注力的挑战。对于那些像杰克一样早期就专注于某项技能的人来说,这是必要的。)”和下文“People who start with many different things and accept various experiences. (那些从多方面入手、愿意接受各种经历的人。)”可知,上文已经提到了对于早期专注的需求,那么接下来应该会讲到世界对多样性和延迟专注的需求。选项C“The growing complexity of the world also calls for more Sams. (世界日益复杂,也需要更多的“山姆”。)”能承接上文,引出下文,符合题意。故选C。
