Most people think fast delivery (快递) is new, but it’s actually very old. As early as the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, governments already had a way to send orders and news. 51 It was most developed in the Tang Dynasty and continued to be used for hundreds of years.
The yizhan was built to help pass documents (文件) far and fast. 52 Sometimes, they passed the messages to the next rider. Because of this, news, food, and even money for the emperors could travel quickly across the land.
53 These places were about 30 kilometers from each other. That was just right for a horse to go without stopping. Each place usually had houses for horses, rooms to keep things, kitchens, and beds for riders. 54 Some had tall towers or flags, so people could see them easily.
Later, the yizhan took on more new roles. When the Mongols (蒙古人) ruled, it also helped foreign officers and official visitors who came for work. This way helped the government, business, and the sharing of culture. 55 Today, our post offices and ways to communicate still learn from this old idea. Keeping people in touch helped ancient China develop and it still helps us now.

‘I’ve told you,’ the King said crossly. ‘I must have two-to fetch and carry. One to fetch, and one to carry.’
At that moment Haigha, one of the Messengers, arrived. He had very large hands and great eyes, which were always moving wildly from side to side.

根据前文“at first in twos and threes, then ten or twenty together”可知,此处描述士兵出现的数量越来越多。选项D“and at last in great crowds...”与前文的“at first... then...”
67.前文提到士兵们总是被绊倒,“when one soldier went down, several more always fell over him”。选项B“Soon the ground was covered with fallen men”正是对这种连环摔倒现象所导致结果的自然顺承描述。
C“but even they fell more often than not”在此处构成转折,完美衔接了前后文的逻辑。
69.前文“Soon she came to an open place”需要一个定语从句来修饰地点,且后半句“busily writing in his notebook”中的“his”表明此处出现了一位男性人物。选项E“where she found the White King sitting on the ground”既用where引导了地点状语从句,又引出了后文对话的关键人物“白国王”,符合语境。
70.前文白国王说“I couldn’t send all the horses”,此处应解释不能全部派出的原因。 A“because two of them are wanted in the game”合理解释了原因,符合故事背景与语境。
Have you ever woken up to the beautiful sound of birds singing outside your window? Birdsong is one of the most beautiful sounds in nature, but it is much more than just music. 71
The most important reason is to protect their homes. A singing bird is often telling others, “This is my area! Stay away!” This is especially common during the breeding (繁殖) season in spring. 72 By doing this, they can avoid physical fights with others.
73 Male (雄性) birds usually sing to catch female birds’ eyes. The strength of the song can show how healthy and strong the male is. A more beautiful and powerful song often means a better partner.
Sometimes, birds use different calls to communicate messages. 74 For example, they may have a special “danger” call to warn other birds when a cat is nearby. They might also have a different call to tell their mates that they have found food.
75 Some birds, like parrots, are even able to learn and copy new sounds from their parents throughout their lives. So, the next time you hear a bird singing, listen carefully. It might be giving a warning, finding a partner, or just talking to its friends.
A.It is actually a powerful tool for communication.
B.Another reason for singing is to find a partner.
C.This helps to keep other male birds out of their space.
D.Young birds learn to sing by listening to their parents.
E.These sounds are usually short and have clear meanings.
F.Young birds sing even better than their parents.
【答案】71.A 72.C 73.B 74.E 75.D
A项“It is actually a powerful tool for communication.”
C项“This helps to keep other male birds out of their space.”
B项“Another reason for singing is to find a partner.”
E项“These sounds are usually short and have clear meanings.”
D项“Young birds learn to sing by listening to their parents.”介绍了幼鸟学习鸣叫的方式,与下文“learn and copy new sounds from their parents”直接对应。
Yangtze through Youth
The Yangtze River plays an important part in teenagers’ lives. What does the Yangtze mean to young people growing up along it? Let’s read their stories.
Chen Muyang, 15
As a teenager living in Wuhan, the Yangtze River is like a close friend to me. When I was in primary school, I often hung out at Hankou River Beach with my friends. But later, I noticed plastic bags and bottles on the riverbank and floating on the water. It made me sad to see fish die because of pollution.
To make a change, I joined the Yangtze River Protectors’ Team. It is a group made up of middle school students. Every weekend, we go to the riverbank, split into groups to pick up rubbish, and tell people walking by not to litter. Everyone should help protect nature. The government can make more eco-friendly rules, and we can also do our part.
Fang Yihong, 13
Childhood tastes always stay in our hearts. I grew up with the taste of Yangtze River water in every meal. When I left home, I missed this familiar taste very much. I like staying by the riverbank: old women washing vegetables on mossy steps, and people waiting for ferries when dusk comes. Here, the river is more than just scenery — it is life itself. The bridges over the river connect the whole city. When I walk across the big bridge, I can feel it shake a little when trains pass by. To me, home is not just a place on a map. It is in the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the river that flows through our lives.
Huang Jingxuan, 14
To me, the Yangtze River is more than just water and waves. It paints our four seasons and holds all my happy childhood memories with friends.
In spring, we get together to fly kites by the wide river. In summer, we enjoy ice cream and play with water guns, feeling the soft wind blow. In autumn, we pick up leaves from the riverbank to use as bookmarks. In winter, we all ride bikes along the beautiful shore. Every season by the Yangtze leaves a special mark on me.
I believe the river flows through our stories and our blood. It is the city’s pulse. My biggest wish is that the Yangtze will always be full of life, and keep nurturing every child in Wuhan who grows up by its side. We will always protect its beauty in return.
A.The Yangtze is full of seasonal memories of childhood
B.People protect the Yangtze River by cleaning up rubbish
C.The Yangtze provides people with plenty of clean water to drink.
D.The Yangtze stands for hometown feeling and life

根据文章“Every weekend, we go to the riverbank, split into groups to pick up rubbish, and tell people walking by not to litter.”

We sometimes say the lion is “the king of the jungle” because it’s stronger and more dangerous than the other animals. ① It can run faster than most animals and it can hunt the best. The lion is the highest animal in the land food chain. It can swim faster than most sea animals. It can also use its big teeth to catch other sea animals and eat them.
What is the top of the world food chain? People are. We are not the biggest or the fastest, but we are the cleverest. ② We could not run faster than most animals, so we invented cars. And now we can move the fastest. ③ We could not fight better than a lion, so we invented guns. Now we can hunt the best.
People’s inventions are clever, but they can be dangerous, too. For example, many years ago, in Inner Mongolia, people used guns to kill a lot of wild wolves. The wild wolves usually eat rabbits. But in recent years, the number of wild rabbits is becoming larger and larger because the number of wild wolves is getting smaller and smaller. Much of the grassland became desert because it was seriously destroyed by the rabbits.
Remember that we’re part of the food chain, so we’re in danger, too. If we protect animals, we’re protecting ourselves.

Xujiadai, a small village in Zhejiang Province, has become China’s most famous baseball village by holding over 100 baseball and softball games. It sets a wonderful example of using sports to push forward rural revitalization (乡村振兴), turning the quiet village into a lively and hopeful place with just one creative idea.
Ten years ago, most villagers made a living by keeping pigs. The environment was polluted, and the village couldn’t develop well.
Everything changed in 2017, when Liu Jianqun became the village Party secretary He wanted to find a new way to improve the village. Liu found a great chance: Many business people loved baseball, but they had no nearby field. At the same time, the village had some empty land. So he came up with a brave plan—to build a baseball field there.
The first field was completed in 2018 and soon held its first big game. To everyone’s surprise, baseball became very popular. As the village became well-known, it held more top-level games. A new international baseball stadium (体育场) opened in 2025, making it possible to host great competitions for both young and adult players.
Baseball has brought great changes to Xujiadai. As more visitors come to watch baseball games, the income of the village has risen greatly, from 1.3 million yuan in 2018 to more than 6.9 million yuan in 2024. The village has built a new industry chain. It covers sports, tourism, food and farm picking. As a result, it provides over 500 jobs for local people every year. Baseball is now part of local daily life. For example, the village has a youth baseball team named the “Little Dragons”. The team has won many prizes and even took second place in an international competition.
Today, Xujiadai shows the world that with clear goals and hard work, a small village can achieve great success.

Ella walked into the kitchen with a big smile, turning around happily. She felt like a famous model, proud of the dress she made all by herself.
Her family was having breakfast. Mom praised the beautiful dress and was shocked that Ella sewed (缝制) it all alone. Her dad said he was really proud of her. Her twin sister was surprised because Ella worked on the dress in secret for two weeks. Her two brothers also said it looked amazing.
This made Ella’s heart full of joy. She had worked on the dress for two weeks and met many difficulties, but she felt it was all worth it. She believed it was going to be a great day.
At school, many classmates praised Ella’s dress. This made Ella even happier. During the last break, Ella sat on the swing, dreaming of having her own style one day.
When the bell rang, Ella jumped off the swing. Suddenly, she heard a loud sound. Her dress had torn (撕裂) all the way down the back! Ella felt embarrassed, thinking she had made a bad dress.
Ella stayed outside, holding her torn dress. Her teacher, Miss Miller, noticed and walked over. Ella sadly said she didn’t make the dress well because it was torn easily. Miss Miller hugged her gently, saying even store - bought clothes are sometimes torn, and her dress was still beautiful. Then she took off her own long sweater and helped Ella put it on to cover the torn dress.
When Ella got home, she told her mother everything, feeling it was a terrible day. Mom hugged her, praised her for making such a beautiful dress. Then she showed her an old sewing machine. Mom said, “This was Grandma’s. I think it’s time for you to have it. It’s the best day for you! This sewing machine was the start of your dream!”

She believed she would make her dream come true one day.(言之有理即可)
第一段提到“Ella walked into the kitchen with a big smile, turning around happily. She felt like a famous model, proud of the dress she made all by herself.”,这说明Ella走进厨房的时候感觉自己像个名模是因为她为自己亲手做的漂亮裙子感到骄傲。

Her twin sister was surprised because Ella worked on the dress in secret for two weeks. Ella felt embarrassed, thinking she had made a bad dress.”,第六段中“Ella sadly said she didn’t make the dress well because it was torn easily.”以及最后一段中“When Ella got home, she told her mother everything, feeling it was a terrible day.” 所以第②空应填embarrassed and sad,第③空应填she had made a bad dress或者she didn’t make the dress well,第④空应填a terrible day;最后一段中“Mom hugged her, praised her for making such a beautiful dress. Then she showed her an old sewing machine. Mom said, ‘This was Grandma’s. I think it’s time for you to have it. It’s the best day for you! This sewing machine was the start of your dream!’” 所以第⑤空应填the best day。

The story of Jianbing goes back to the Three Kingdoms Period. It is said that Zhuge Liang, a great military leader, created it as his army had no cooking tools. He told his cooks to mix water with flour and cook the batter (面糊) on shields. The food raised the soldiers’ morale (士气) and helped them win the battle.
To make Jianbing, people use wheat flour, eggs, and different sauces like sweet bean sauce or chili paste. The cook pours the batter onto a hot pan, adds an egg, and spreads it evenly (均匀地). Then, green onions and fresh herbs are added. Finally, the Jianbing is folded and served hot.
Different places have their own styles. In Tianjin, people often add a deep-fried dough stick (youtiao). In Beijing, the Jianbing may be thicker, and sometimes ham or cheese is added.
Jianbing is not just a snack. It is a symbol of Chinese street food culture. It is often seen in morning markets, where people enjoy it as a quick and tasty breakfast. To solve my problem, I asked my teacher for help. I practiced more and read English stories every day. I also watched English movies to improve my listening. Slowly, my English improved. I realized that facing problems is part of growing up.
