A Wang Yi, who can’t walk or even communicate normally, has written eight books with one movable finger. Wang was born with cerebral palsy(脑瘫)in Jiangsu Province in 1989. Restricted to a wheelchair as she began to grow up, she even has difficulty eating and bathing. However, Wang and her parents have stayed positive throughout. Since childhood, Wang’s parents have been telling her to regard herself as a normal person even if she is physically disabled. She practiced performing daily activities repeatedly. With her parents’ help, she learned to live with her physical disability and aimed to be an outstanding writer. Before the age of 17, Wang completed nine years of compulsory education and acquired much literary knowledge. With the encouragement of her teacher, she became more determined to pursue her dream of writing. Literature has become a medium for her to communicate with the world. Sitting in a wheelchair, Wang pursues her dream in her own way. Though she only has one movable finger on her right hand, she has managed to write eight books with a total of more than a million words. “For me, writing is not a tool to make a living, but my necessary life mode. Only when I am involved in writing can I feel complete,” she stressed. Wang hopes that every disabled person can live without discrimination. “What I value most is the sense of value and dignity from the efforts of the disabled themselves, as well as from social recognition, acceptance and equal treatment.” She also hopes that readers can experience the strength of life, the warmth of family and the beauty of the times when they are reading her works. Jidi Majia, Vice Chairman of the China Writers Association commented, “Although Wang Yi has a disability, the spirit shown in her works is positive. D.Unique and energetic. B Deep in the Bywater neighborhood, between the Mississippi River and St. Claude Avenue, sits Alvar Library. Built in 1940 and often noted for its special decorative design and Works Progress Administration roots, this tiny one-room library stands out in history for another reason: a dedicated community that refuses to give up on it. Over the decades, this beloved library has seen its neighbors rise up in its defense time and time again, saving it from purchase by a nearby meat-packing plant, securing government funding for its renovations, and volunteering to help staff it. In 1977, a man even chained himself to the building to protest its proposed destruction after it had fallen into disrepair. That man was Marc Cooper, the then-president of the Bywater Neighborhood Association, who said he hoped the action would help push their message out from the limits of the neighborhood. “It just seemed that our appeals were falling on deaf ears,” Cooper told The Times-Picayune at a celebration for Alvar Library’s 50th anniversary in 1990. The association was ultimately able to secure funding for the building’s repairs, which were completed in 1982. But, a mere four years later, the city was again considering shutting down Alvar Library, citing declining resources. However, the neighborhood association stood back up, preventing this fate (命运) once more by forming a volunteer workforce to help staff the location. In the years since, neighbors have regularly gathered at the library for storytimes and book clubs, writing workshops and homework help, author talks and game nights, and so much more. Sara Jacobelli, one of the three staff members, said she has been able to form meaningful and long-lasting relationships with Alvar Library users in her more than five years at the location. “I’ve lived in the Bywater, off and on, for 20 years, and I know many of our regulars,” Jacobelli said. “Many of them were my friends before I worked here. When they see me walking down the street, or in bars and restaurants, they tell me how much they appreciate Alvar Library.” 5.Which words can best describe Alvar Library? A.Grand and modern. B.Historic and delicate. C.Spacious and classical. D.Ruined and mysterious. 6.How did Cooper sound when talking to The Times-Picayune? A.Cautious. B.Annoyed. C.Delighted. D.Confident. 7.Which year saw the ending of Alvar Library’s uncertain fate? A.1977. B.1982. C.1986. D.1990. 8.What message does Jacobelli want to convey in the last paragraph? A.She feels proud of working at Alvar Library. B.It takes patience to meet the needs of readers. C.She is content with the service of Alvar Library. D.Working at Alvar Library is sometimes quite challenging. C Researchers found that they could accurately predict how close two people were based only on their brain activity in response to a series of unfamiliar video clips. Simply put: You and your best friends really do think alike. According to a Dartmouth study finding, friends have similar neural (神经的) responses to real-world stimuli (刺激) and these similarities can be used to predict who your friends are. The study reveals that friends have the most similar neural activity patterns, followed by friends-of-friends who, in turn, have more similar neural activity than people three degrees removed (friends-of-friends-of-friends). Published in Nature Communications, the study is the first of its kind to examine the connections between the neural reaction of people within a real-world social network. “Neural responses to dynamic, naturalistic stimuli, like videos, can give us a window into people’s unlimited, unplanned thought processes as they unfold. Our results suggest that friends process the world around them in exceptionally similar ways,” says lead author Carolyn Parkinson. The study analyzed the friendships or social ties within a group of 280 graduate students. The researchers estimated the social distance between pairs of individuals based on mutually (相互地) reported social ties. Forty-two of the students were asked to watch a range of videos while their neural activity was recorded in a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanner. The videos covered a range of topics and genres, including politics, science, comedy and music videos, for which a range of responses was expected. Each participant watched the same videos in the same order, with the same instructions. The researchers then compared the neural responses pairwise across the set of students to determine if pairs of students who were friends had more similar brain activity than pairs further removed from each other in their social network. The findings revealed that neural response similarity was strongest among friends, and this pattern appeared across brain regions involved in emotional responding and high-level reasoning. Even when the researchers controlled variables, including left-handedness or right-handedness, age, gender, race, and nationality, the analogy in neural activity among friends was still evident. The team also found that fMRI response similarities could be used to predict not only if a pair were friends but also the social distance between the two. 9.What can we learn about the study mentioned in the text? A.It is original and checks people’s neural responses. B.It has yet to win recognition from the academic world. C.It involved more than 200 students watching various videos. D.It required a professional device to analyze participants’ conversation. 10.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A.The design of the study. B.The process of the study. C.The findings of the study. D.The innovation of the study. 11.What is the author’s attitude towards the findings of the study? A.Skeptical. B.Supportive. C.Indifferent. D.Neutral. 12.What might be the best title for the passage? A.Neural Responses Shape Social Bonds B.How Videos Connect People’s Minds C.The Science Behind Social Networks. D.Friendship Seen Through Neural Patterns. 第二节 小标题填空(共3小题;每小题3分,满分9分) 下面文章中有3处(第13~15题)需要添加小标题,请从以下选项(A、B.C 和D)中选出符合各段意思的小标题,并在答题卡上将相应选项的标号涂黑,选项中有一项是多余选项。 How to deal with anxiety before exams? Here are some dos and don’ts that might help you with your exams. Don’t arrive too early. You probably arrive early before an exam, but getting there too early is not a good idea. When you’re reviewing with friends you might get more anxious. Instead, try to get there five to ten minutes earlier and keep yourself from talking about the exam to anybody. 13 Lack of sleep is a huge factor in increasing anxiety. When your nervous system is not rested, it’s too late, and this will make you anxious. Also, you will have a harder time concentrating. So, instead of studying deep into the night, you should work on getting a regular sleep pattern. 14 If you’ve worked hard, and you are ready, you don’t need this. Reviewing on the day of the exam might make you feel like you’ve missed out on some topics. And to be honest, if that’s the case, it’s too late, and this will make you anxious. So you had better just be rested and relaxed for the exam and do your best. Do eat well. Don’t forget to have a good meal. We tend to forget to eat when we’re too anxious, but eating is essential. Your brain needs sugar to function properly. You have to eat something before attending an exam. It will give you more energy and lower your anxiety level. 15 Before and during an exam, don’t think about the result. Stay focused on the present. You should not, think about your grades, your chances of getting into college, and your family’s opinion, etc. The only thing that matters is you and the exam. Try to separate yourself from anything else. A.Do sleep well. B.Do listen to your teachers. C. Don’t think about the result of the exam. D.Don’t review on the day of the exam. 第二部分 知识运用(共两节,满分25分) 第一节 完形填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文。掌握其大意,然后从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 Susan was an art teacher, who loved helping her students become creative. Firstly, it bridges geographical gaps, allowing us to communicate instantly through video calls, messaging apps, and social media. This helps us to maintain strong connections with friends and family no matter where they are. Secondly, technology develops global connections, enabling people to share ideas, cultures, and experiences across borders, which creates opportunities for international cooperation and understanding. Lastly, technology provides platforms for people with shared interests to connect, such as online communities, forums, and gaming networks, where like-minded individuals can form meaningful relationships. In conclusion, technology is a powerful tool that strengthens relationships and unites people worldwide, making the world feel smaller and more interconnected. AI Version 2: While technology connects us virtually, it often creates emotional distance. Firstly, overuse of technological devices reduces face-to-face interactions, weakening personal bonds. For instance, people may spend more time on their phones than talking to those around them, leading to a sense of disconnection. Secondly, online communication, which lacks the depth of in- person conversations, often fails to carry messages like facial expressions and tones. This can result in misunderstandings or distant relationships, making it harder to build trust. Moreover, over-relying on technology, designed to simplify our lives, can cause separation, because people prefer screens to real-life connections. In conclusion, technology, if misused, can drive people apart by replacing meaningful interactions with impersonal digital exchanges. 【分析】本篇书面表达属于议论文,要求考生以“Technology makes people closer or more distant”为题,写一篇短文参加学校英文社将要举办的辩论赛。 【详解】1、词汇积累 首先:firstly→first and foremost 最后:lastly→finally 提供:provide→offer 总之:in conclusion→in a word 2、句式拓展 简单句变复合句 原句:Firstly, it bridges geographical gaps, allowing us to communicate instantly through video calls, messaging apps, and social media. 拓展句:Firstly, it bridges geographical gaps, which allows us to communicate instantly through video calls, messaging apps, and social media. 第 page number 页,共 number of pages 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
