Richard Proenneke did what most nature lovers can only dream of: At age 51, he quit his job as a mechanic and moved to the Alaskan wilderness to become one with nature.
In 1962, Proenneke encountered the area Twin Lakes, now called Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Its wild beauty struck a chord with Proenneke. He thought the area was a perfect place to settle. In 1968, he built a small cabin there and remained for the next 30 years.
Going such long periods without companionship would tax many a person. But that was not the case for Proenneke. An obsessive observer and diarist, Proenneke once noted he was so busy with his life that he was never lonely. He spent most of his free time writing about the weather, the environment and the animals, some of which he befriended with regular treats. He hiked thousands of miles per year, becoming quite familiar with the miles of wilderness around his cabin. He caught and ate fish from the lake. Having no refrigerator, he dug into the ground and created a chilly storage box that helped to prolong his fresh foods.
Yet Proenneke wasn’t a bitter or angry isolationist (孤立主义者). He happily wrote replies to just about anyone who sent him letters. During the 30 years, Proenneke filled up more than 250 notepads with his diary entries. He also carried a camera to record some of his daily activities. Along with a biography composed by his friend Sam Keith, Proenneke’s notepads and camera footage were later turned into a documentary, Alone in the Wilderness.
In his will, Proenneke left behind his Twin Lakes cabin to the park rangers (护林员) as a gift. Actually, he had become such an important part of the park’s ecosystem that the rangers had trouble imagining life without him.
4. What made Proenneke different from other nature lovers?
A. He loved outdoor activities. B. He built a cabin in the forest.
C. He quit his job in his fifties. D. He settled alone in the wilderness.
5. Which word can best replace the underlined “tax” in Paragraph 3?
A. Impress. B. Benefit. C. Defeat. D. Transform.
6. What might Proenneke think of his life in Twin Lakes?
A. Bitter but fruitful. B. Lonely but peaceful.
C. Risky but thrilling. D. Simple but fulfilling.
7. What might be a suitable title for the text?
A. One Man’s “Alaska” B. Gift from a Nature Lover
C. A Volunteer Ranger D. Survival in the Wilderness

The interview had been going on for about 20 minutes and everything seems to be going well. Then, suddenly, the interviewer asks an unexpected question, “Which is more important, law or Dove?”
Job applicants in the West increasingly find themselves asked strange questions like this. And the signs are that this is beginning to happen in China.
Employers want people skilled, enthusiastic and devoted. So these are the qualities that any reasonably intelligent job applicants will try to show no matter what his or her actual feelings are. In response, employers are increasingly using questions which try and show the applicant’s true personality.
The question in the first paragraph comes from a test called the Keirsey Personality Sorter. It is an attempt to discover how people solve problems, rather than what they know. This is often called an aptitude test (能力倾向测验).
According to Mark Baldwin many job applicants in China are finding this type of questions difficult. When a Chinese person fills out an aptitude test he or she will think there is a right answer and they may fail because they try to guess what the examiner wants to see.
This is sometimes called the prisoner’s dilemma. Applicants are trying to act cleverly in their own interest. But they fail because they don’t understand what the interviewer is looking for. Remember that in an aptitude test, the correct answer is always the honest answer.
8. The writer wrote the passage to________.
A. give you a piece of advice on a job interview B. tell you how to meet a job interviewer
C. describe the aptitude test D. advice you how to find a job
9. Why do the interviewers ask such questions?
A. They want to discover what the interviewees know.
B. They are curious about the answers.
C. They try to discover the ability of the interviewees solving problems.
D. They just ask questions without thinking much.
10. According to the writer in an aptitude test, Chinese job applicants should________.
A. not tell the truth B. learn to tell what they really think
C. be more enthusiastic D. try to find out what the examiner really want to know
11. From the passage we know that________.
A job applicants are always asked such questions
B. more Chinese applicants fail to find a job
C. applicants should not act as reasonably as a prisoner
D. the aptitude test is becoming popular worldwide

Studies have shown the mere exposure effect, also referred to as the familiarity principle, inspires our decisions. It is a helpful psychological mechanism (机制) that helps us maintain our energy and focus our attention on other things. Getting used to new things takes effort and it can be tiring. So unless we have a terrible experience, we are likely to buy from companies we’ve got used to. That is why companies spend so much money on advertising and marketing and why insurance companies openly charge existing customers more than new ones.
It’s not the case that we only desire things we already know. Some studies suggest when invited to share our preferences, we sometimes see less familiar choices as more desirable. But when acting on that preference, we fall back to what we know. This might explain why sometimes the things we want and the things we do don’t quite match up. We might even return to companies that treated us poorly in the past or stay in bad relationships.
It’s easy to paint the familiarity principle as an enemy or something to battle as if it is something that holds us back from living our dreams. But this attitude might be overwhelming because it tends to encourage us toward big-picture thinking. Where we imagine that change requires a substantial dramatic (巨大而突然的) swing that we don’t feel ready for. Some articles suggest the solution to familiarity frustration is complete exposure to novelty (新奇的事物). While this can appear effective in the short run, we may only end up replacing one problem with another. It also risks overwhelm and burnout.
So what if we can work with the familiarity principle instead? Familiarity is something we can learn to play with and enjoy. It is a setting for creativity and a pathway to expansion. We can broaden the zone of familiarity bit by bit. If we think of familiarity as something that can expand, we can consider changing the conditions in and around our lies to make more space for our preferences to take root and grow gently. From here, we will start to make decisions, drawing from an ever-deepening pool of valuable alternatives.
12. What allows insurance companies to charge old customers more?
A. The familiarity principle. B. The advertising cost.
C. The improved service. D. The law of the market.
13. What can be learned from paragraph 2?
A. Our preferences affect our decisions.
B. There can be a mismatch between desires and actions.
C. The familiarity principle is a double-edged sword.
D. Familiarity tends to generate disrespect.
14. What is the author’s attitude towards the solution in some articles?
A. Objective. B. Favorable. C. Disapproving. D. Tolerant.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Gently Expand Your Familiarity Zone B. Step Out Of Your Familiarity Zone
C. Spare A Thought For Your Preference D. Give Priority To The Mere Exposure Effect

I spent 15 years trying to make it in the music industry. When I was a teenager, I did any odd job to afford time in a recording studio. I knocked at managers’ doors and sent out demo (录音样带) after demo, but I got nowhere. In 2010, aged 27, I was doing a job in a restaurant when I wrote a song called Dream Goes On. It was a song about never giving up. I just let out all of my frustrations at the keyboard.
Over the next five years, the music career never materialized but I persisted. Then, in 2019, I uploaded Dream Goes On to a music-sharing website. I just wanted someone to notice my music.
Later that year, I received an email out of the blue from Music World from South Korea, requesting a license for the song. They had chosen my song from the millions on the music-sharing website for a theme tune for one of their shows. I was amazed and negotiated a contract for $5,000 for the use of the song and signed up straight away. I was pretty excited, but didn’t think anything more would come of it, so I focused on my job in the restaurant.
This February, Music World organized a musical festival in Seoul and my song Dream Goes On was also chosen as the theme tune for the festival. I watched on YouTube as my song was being played to a huge crowd of people. It was amazing.
After three days of the festival, I was contacted by Music World and they asked if I’d like to go to Seoul to sing Dream Goes On in a concert. They flew me out there the next day. I was welcomed like a celebrity—everyone I met thought I was a big name in England. I had to break the news to them that I wasn’t a pop star.

【46题答案】
【答案】AI Version 1:
Technology undoubtedly brings people closer.
Firstly, it bridges geographical gaps, allowing us to communicate instantly through video calls, messaging apps, and social media. This helps us to maintain strong connections with friends and family no matter where they are. Secondly, technology develops global connections, enabling people to share ideas, cultures, and experiences across borders, which creates opportunities for international cooperation and understanding. Lastly, technology provides platforms for people with shared interests to connect, such as online communities, forums, and gaming networks, where like-minded individuals can form meaningful relationships.
In conclusion, technology is a powerful tool that strengthens relationships and unites people worldwide, making the world feel smaller and more interconnected.
AI Version 2:
While technology connects us virtually, it often creates emotional distance.
Firstly, overuse of technological devices reduces face-to-face interactions, weakening personal bonds. For instance, people may spend more time on their phones than talking to those around them, leading to a sense of disconnection. Secondly, online communication, which lacks the depth of in- person conversations, often fails to carry messages like facial expressions and tones. This can result in misunderstandings or distant relationships, making it harder to build trust. Moreover, over-relying on technology, designed to simplify our lives, can cause separation, because people prefer screens to real-life connections.
In conclusion, technology, if misused, can drive people apart by replacing meaningful interactions with impersonal digital exchanges.
第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】I had never performed the song live, and hadn’t been on stage for years. Seized by a strong sense of tension, I stood on the stage, seeing the huge cheers and a sea of lights below the stage. I was lost at the moment, holding the microphone tightly. I tried my best to collect myself and began to sing my own song which I had practiced hundreds of times. Looking back the years I had experienced as I sang on the stage, I realized that it is the opportunity that I had been waiting for the whole life. I kept myself full of enthusiasm as I was singing on the stage, showing the best to the audience.
After the concert, I had photographers and journalists battling to interview me. With them around me, a long queue of fans were waiting to have their photograph taken with me. I was like a superstar and that night was like a real dream for me. I had knocked on doors for years, yet my moment came when the opportunity called me. Life can surprise you. It has reinspired my passion for music. This has made all the odd jobs and weekends spent in recording studios all worthwhile.
