Xu climbed the tallest peak in Africa on Jan.1st. She even stood on top of Mount Qomolangma last May, making her the youngest Chinese girl to climb to the world’s highest peak from the southern slope.
Xu’s journey began on a trip to Sichuan four years ago. Passing by Mount Siguniang in Sichuan, she felt drawn (吸引) to its beauty and climbed it. She fell in love with mountaineering right then and there. For the next few years, Xu did hard training.
She climbed peaks over 5,000 metres in Yunnan and Sichuan every month. She also did daily exercises like running, swimming and rope skipping. All that hard work got her ready for the big challenges she would face on Kilimanjaro.
Above 4,000 metres on Mount Kilimanjaro, the weather is similar to a desert, with big temperature differences. During her seven-day climb, Xu faced changeable weather such as rain and strong winds. Staying warm and avoiding heat loss were very important. Xu had to keep an eye on the temperature and change her clothes when the temperature changed.
This climb was also a learning experience for Xu. She was climbing with Xia Boyu, the first Chinese climber to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma with a prosthetic (假肢的) leg. “Every time I felt like giving up, just seeing Xia was enough to encourage me. He was almost 74 years old, but was still pushing on although he had bloodied legs from his prosthesis,” Xu said.
Looking ahead, Xu has set great goals for herself. She plans to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents (大陆) and visit the North and South Poles by the time she’s 18.

Now, walking 10,000 steps a day is a popular goal among people who want to stay fit. However, some researchers looked into how many steps we actually need to stay healthy. Surprisingly, it’s fewer than we thought.
Not long ago, a team of scientists from two universities did a study. According to the study, taking 8,250 steps a day can greatly reduce health risks (风险), and taking 9,700 steps a day is best for those with cardiovascular conditions (心血管疾病). The researchers say that doing moderate (适度的) physical activity is important, no matter how often or how long you do it.
The result is similar to what a study reported in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2022 discovered. Although people who walk 10,000 steps a day have a lower risk of getting cancer than those who walk 8,000 or 6,000 steps a day, they almost won’t benefit more from walking more than 10,000 steps.
What’s more, walking is also good for your mental (心理的) health. If you have the chance to walk in nature instead of a gym, you will get more benefit. So put on your walking shoes, and take a walk!

A.10,000 steps. B.9,700 steps. C.8,250 steps. D.6,000 steps.
15.What is important according to the researchers?
A.Walking in a gym. B.Doing sport more often. C.Spending more time doing sport. D.Doing moderate physical activity.
16.What can we learn from the reading?
A.The more people walk a day, the more they benefit.
B.Walking in nature is better for people than walking indoors.
C.It’s almost impossible for people to get cancer if they walk 10,000 steps a day.
D.People with cardiovascular conditions should walk less than healthy people.

四、阅读与表达(共4小题,41~43小题,每小题2分,44小题4分;满分10分)
I still remember the moment it hit me. Our teacher asked everyone what they did during the holidays. “I had piano lessons.” “I went to equestrian (马术) club.” “I trained for a ski competition.” When my turn came, I hesitated. “I just stayed at home,” I mumbled (低声说). A few kids looked at each other.
After that, the topic kept coming up. “What did you even do?” someone asked. I mumbled something about watching TV. I started to feel like my holidays were less impressive (令人印象深刻的).
I’d lie in bed thinking about what I didn’t have. No piano. No horse. No ski mountains. One night, I asked my mom if we could afford lessons like other kids. She explained gently that those things cost too much. I nodded, but inside I felt ashamed.
The next day, a classmate named Leo sat beside me. “I didn’t do any of that stuff either,” he said. “My family can’t afford those things. But honestly? I don’t think it matters.” That stayed in my mind.
I started noticing that some kids who showed off seemed tired. One girl told me she hated piano but her parents made her practice for hours. They had what I wanted, but they didn’t look happy.
The turning point came during a class discussion. Kevin announced his parents were buying him a new piano. Then he turned to me and said, “So, what did you even do? Just stay at home?”
I looked him in the eye and said, “I spent time with my family. I helped my mom cook. I played basketball at the park. It’s not fancy, but I actually enjoyed it. Do you actually enjoy piano, or do you just like telling people you play?”
Kevin’s smirk (得意的笑) froze. The class went quiet.
From that day on, I started to talk about my holidays honestly—cooking, basketball, reading. Some people weren’t impressed, and that was fine. My life wasn’t less colorful than anyone else’s; it was just different.
Looking back, I’m thankful. Comparing myself with others only made me feel ashamed and unhappy. It made me pay no attention to what I already had—my family, simple joys, and freedom. The moment I stopped comparing, I started actually living. I learned that comparing steals your happiness and makes you forget what truly matters.
41.What question did the teacher ask?
42.How did the writer feel after asking his mom about having lessons like other kids?
43.What did the writer do after the day he talked back to Kevin?
44.What do you think of comparing yourself with others? Why? ( Give two reasons)

11.根据文章中Charlotte用“kind voice”(温和的声音)说话,承诺“I am going to save you”(我会救你),并且整夜工作织网救Wilbur,可以看出她是善良的并决定帮助Wilbur。
12.最后威尔伯看到网上的字后问“What does that mean?”以及夏洛解释“you are a very special pig”,表明威尔伯仍然担心但很好奇。
D
13.Why do people want to walk 10,000 steps a day?
A.Because they want to get popular. B.Because they want to keep healthy.
C.Because they have a lot of free time. D.Because researchers advised them to do so.
14.Henry wants to reduce health risks greatly. How many steps should he walk at least a day?
根据第一段第一句“Now, walking 10,000 steps a day is a popular goal among people who want to stay fit.”可知,人们想要每天走一万步是为了保持健康。
14.根据第二段第二句“According to the study, taking 8,250 steps a day can greatly reduce health risks…”可知,每天走8,250步可以极大地降低健康风险。
15.根据第二段最后一句“The researchers say that doing moderate physical activity is important…”可知,研究人员认为进行适度的体育活动是很重要的。
16.根据第四段第二句“If you have the chance to walk in nature instead of a gym, you will get more benefit.”可知,在大自然中散步比在健身房(室内)散步益处更多。A项与第三段“almost won’t benefit more from walking more than 10,000 steps”不符;C项“almost impossible”过于绝对,原文仅是“lower risk”;D项与第二段提到的心血管疾病患者最佳步数更多(9,700 步)不符。
第二节 根据短文内容,从 A—E 中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,有一项为多余选项。

【答案】41.
She asked everyone what they did during the holidays. 42.
He felt ashamed. 43.
He started to talk about his holidays honestly. 44.
I think comparing yourself with others is bad. Because first, it will only make you feel ashamed and unhappy. Second, it will make you pay no attention to what you already have and forget what truly matters.
