Light rain continued to fall as I arrived at the mountain village. With a heavy bag on my back, I was excited to teach at a small school here, but a little 16 . What would these students be like?
The school had only 18 students. Most were quiet, 17 they ran and laughed at break. One girl, Wen, always sat alone in the corner, seldom saying anything. On my first day in the classroom, I shared with them a 18 with the words “You are seen” on it and put it up on the wall. Some smiled shyly and some spoke quietly. “That’s why I’m here,” I said. However, Wen didn’t 19 . She was just drawing circles on the desk with her finger.
Days passed quickly. The lessons were 20 planned. The children were kind. But my effort seemed to make little difference. I was not sure if I was doing anything 21 .
One night, a heavy storm caused a power cut, leaving the classroom in darkness. As everyone was frozen, a soft light appeared. It was Wen who was holding a 22 in her hand. “We can still read,” she said in a low voice. That was the first time I heard her voice.
The next day, she sat 23 to her classmates. In the following days, she began to talk more. In my last class, she came up and gave me the lantern. “So you will always have some 24 ,” she smiled gently.
I came to give light, but found it was quietly 25 . Volunteering isn’t always loud or big. Sometimes, it’s a quiet lantern—shared between the two, and shining in both directions.
16.A.bored B.relaxed C.worried D.surprised
17.A.though B.so C.since D.when
18.A.dictionary B.poster C.book D.timetable
19.A.stand up B.give up C.wake up D.look up
20.A.slowly B.carefully C.directly D.finally
21.A.simple B.interesting C.popular D.meaningful
22.A.book B.lantern C.candle D.lamp
23.A.farther B.lower C.closer D.longer
24.A.fun B.time C.light D.hope
25.A.returned B.collected C.connected D.accepted
16.C 17.A 18.B 19.D 20.B 21.D 22.B 23.C 24.C 25.A
后文作者疑惑“What would these students be like?”
so“因此”表因果,since“自从”表时间或原因,when“当……
后文“She was just drawing circles on the desk with her finger.” stand up“站起来”、give up“放弃”和wake up“醒来”与语境动作不符。
前文提到“But my effort seemed to make little difference.
后文明确说到“she came up and gave me the lantern.”,此处对应下文,应填lantern。
根据后文“she began to talk more.”,此处表示她开始交流,说明心理距离拉近,坐得更近,应填closer。

Yesterday afternoon, something unusual happened at Green Park. Around 4 p.m., dark clouds filled the sky and heavy rain began to fall. People who were enjoying their time in the park quickly ran to find shelter (n. But a young boy did not move. He remained sitting alone at a stone chess table, completely lost in thought.
For the next four hours, the rain continued without stopping. The boy stayed in the same place, getting wetter and wetter. His clothes were soaked, but he seemed not to notice. Many people walked by and saw him. Some stopped and watched from a distance, wondering what was wrong.
Mrs. Chen, a local woman who often takes walks in the park, became worried. “I first saw him when the rain started,” she said. “Two hours later, when I passed by again, he was still there. I went over and asked if he needed an umbrella or some help. He didn’t answer. He just kept watching the empty chessboard in front of him.” Another visitor was so worried that he wanted to call the police, thinking the boy might be lost or afraid.
Later, a man arrived at the park. He explained that he was Mr. Lee, the boy’s father. “We played chess here this morning,” Mr. Lee said. “My son lost the game because of one careless move. He was very close to winning. He wasn’t angry, but he needed time to think about what went wrong. When it comes to chess, he becomes so focused that he forgets everything else—even a heavy storm.”
Finally, around 8 o’clock in the evening, the rain stopped. Mr. Lee helped his son stand up, and together they walked slowly out of the park. People who saw them leave felt a sense of relief (n. What had seemed like a worrying situation turned out to be a story of deep passion. The young boy wasn’t in trouble—he was simply lost in the game he loved.

根据第2段中的“For the next four hours, the rain continued without stopping. The boy stayed in the same place, getting wetter and wetter. His clothes were soaked,”可知,在接下来的四个小时里,雨一直下个不停。
32.根据第4段中的“He explained that he was Mr. Lee, the boy’s father. ‘We played chess here this morning,’ Mr. Lee said. ’My son lost the game because of one careless move. He was very close to winning. He wasn’t angry, but he needed time to think about what went wrong. When it comes to chess, he becomes so focused that he forgets everything else—even a heavy storm.’”

C
Poyang Lake, located in northern Jiangxi Province, is the largest freshwater lake in China. It’s also the second largest lake in the country, second only to Qinghai Lake.
Long ago, during the Tang Dynasty, the lake was at its biggest, covering about 6,000 square kilometres. Today, it is just around 3,150 square kilometres. The size of Poyang Lake also changes a lot throughout the year. In summer, it is like a huge inland sea. By winter, it almost disappears.
Because of the natural cycle (周期), the lake is home to many animals. The Yangtze finless porpoise (长江江豚), an endangered freshwater animal, lives in the water. Also, hundreds of birds spend the winter in its wetlands every year. However, the wet areas are getting smaller. This makes it hard for animals living there to survive.
Luckily, local people are taking action to meet the challenge. The story of Yuan Wenbin is a great example. Yuan used to fish in Poyang Lake for a living. When he noticed that the Yangtze finless porpoises were disappearing, he was worried. He stopped full-time fishing and asked his neighbours to protect the animals together. However, they didn’t take it seriously at first.
“For a long time, I felt like I was the only one who cared,” Yuan said. He wasn’t sure if his work would make a difference. However, he didn’t give up. Day by day, Yuan’s actions inspired more community members. They started joining him to watch over the lake in 2017.
Now, Poyang Lake is becoming more friendly to wildlife. Many visitors come to visit it. “I just hope our hard work can encourage more people to protect the lake we depend on,” Yuan said.
36.What do we know about Poyang Lake?
A.It is larger than Qinghai Lake. B.It is the deepest lake in China.
C.It gets much smaller in winter. D.It becomes bigger than before.
37.Which of the following does paragraph 3 answer?
A.Why are the wet areas getting smaller?
B.What do Yangtze finless porpoises look like?
C.What makes it hard for the animals there to survive?
D.How do local people protect the endangered animals?
38.How did Yuan feel about protecting the animals at first?
A.Happy and excited. B.Alone and uncertain.
C.Shocked and angry. D.Confident and hopeful.
39.What can we infer (推断) from the last paragraph?
A.The condition of Poyang Lake is improving.
B.Few visitors come to Poyang Lake these days.
C.Yuan thinks their hard work is useless for the lake.
D.All the visitors will help protect the lake and animals.
40.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Great changes of Poyang Lake
B.Freshwater animals in Poyang Lake
C.The two most famous lakes in northern China

International Volunteer Day falls 56 December 5th every year. It was started by the United Nations in 1985. This special day aims to praise the selfless spirit of volunteers and make more people care about those in need around the world.
Volunteers do different kinds of meaningful work. Some help look after 57 (home) animals and provide them with food and care. Some go to poor areas to teach children English or art 58 free. Others help clean up parks, rivers and communities to protect our environment. They spend their spare time 59 (help) others and never ask for any pay. Their kindness makes our society 60 (warm) and more beautiful.
Being a volunteer is not only helpful to others but also good for 61 (our). We can learn 62 (value) communication skills, make new friends and feel a strong sense of 63 (achieve). It teaches us to love and share with people around us.
Many teenagers around the world 64 (take) part in voluntary activities in recent years. No matter 65 small the action is, it can bring light to those in trouble.
56.on 57.homeless 58.for 59.helping 60.warmer 61.ourselves 62.valuable 63.achievement 64.have taken 65.how
spend time (in) doing sth.
a sense of...
主语“Many teenagers”是复数,因此谓语动词用have taken。
No matter how...
