In the 1960s, a musical group composed a popular song called Monday: “Every other day of the week is fine. Grandma had a thin face and endless false Indian jewelry, which hung heavily from her slim neck. Because she lived down the hill from us, we called her Grandma-down-the-hill. This was to tell her from our mother’s mother, who we called Grandma-over-in-town because she lived fifteen miles south, in the only town of the country.
Dad and his mother got along like two cats with their tails tied together. They could talk for a week and not agree about anything, but they were connected by their love for the mountain, the place where they were born. My father’s family had been living at the base of Buck’s Peak for half a century. Grandma’s daughters had married and moved away, but my father stayed. He was building a poor yellow house, just up the hill from his mother’s, and a junkyard (废品堆积场)—next to her beautiful garden.
They argued daily, about the mess from the junkyard but more often about us kids. Grandma thought we should be in school but not running across the mountain like animals. Dad said public school was a trick played by the Government to lead children away from God. “I would rather give my kids to the devil (魔鬼) than send them to school,” he said.
Dad was crazy about God. One day, God told Dad to share his messages with the people who lived in Buck’s Peak. On Sundays, nearly everyone gathered at the hall. Dad started with his cousin Jim, the owner of the big milk farm a mile north of Buck’s Peak. When Dad waved his Bible (《圣经》) and explained the guilt of milk, Jim laughed. Then he clapped Dad on the shoulder and said God would never take a healthy milk and bread breakfast away from a man. As he walked past, I suddenly remembered: the biggest milk farm in town was Jim’s.

As the spirit spoke, they passed through the wall and stood on a country road with fields on either side. The city had disappeared. It was now day time, and there was snow on the ground.
“I know where we are!” Scrooge shouted. “I was born here and lived here as a boy.” He began to have memories of his childhood. A tear (眼泪) came into his eye.
“If you remember this place,” the spirit said, “you may now lead the way.”
They walked along the road until a little town could be seen ahead with its bridge, church, and river. Some small horses came towards them with boys upon their backs. When the boys came nearer, Scrooge recognized each of them and could call out their names. He felt so happy to see them all again. 七、任务型阅读
根据短文内容在文章后表格中的空白处填入一个最恰当的词,每空一词。
As a song goes, “Everybody needs good neighbours.” But now, do we still expect to have good neighbours or get on well with those who live around?
In the past, our front doors were open to our neighbours and we often invited them home. However, these days many of us may live in a neighbourhood without even knowing our neighbours’ names. A study showed that 76% of us believe that people were closer to their neighbours 20 years ago than today, but now one in five of us has never spoken to our neighbours at all.
Why is this happening? People move more often. They often move their houses or change jobs, making it hard to build long-term friendships. In fact, in smaller communities, being neighbourly (与邻为善的) is just part of day-to-day life. As people attend the same schools, shops, or community clubs, getting to know each other becomes much easier. However, in big cities, with more people and more choices, we meet our neighbours much less often. We are also limited by modern work habits. Long office hours mean we may hardly ever see our neighbours. At the same time, many of us ask for more private space and boundaries.
However, being friendly with neighbours has many good points. A global scientific study found that knowing as few as six neighbours reduces loneliness, which helps increase the feeling of being protected. Moreover, those who live nearby are often the first to be aware of signs of danger or something strange in the neighbourhood. For old or weak people, support from neighbours can be of great importance and regular neighbourly contact can help them stay by themselves longer.
There’s no rule for all. But at least, make sure to smile and offer a kind word to your neighbour from time to time. These small acts may go much further than you might think. Are we becoming less close to our neighbours?
Situation
● 57 of us know neighbours’ names.
● Over three 58 of people think that the relationships between neighbours in the past were much closer.
59 of being less neighbourly
● moving house and changing 60
● lower 61 of meeting neighbours because of long office hours
● the growing 62 for private space and boundaries
Advantages of being neighbourly
● Knowing just six neighbours offers a sense of 63 .

In recent years, AI has become an important part of our daily life. For example, we often use voice assistants like Siri to play music or check the weather.
AI brings many benefits to us. It makes our work more efficient and provides personalized learning resources for students. However, AI also causes some problems. Some people may depend on it too much and stop thinking for themselves. What’s more, privacy safety is a serious concern.
In my opinion, we should use AI as a tool rather than a master. We need to learn how to cooperate with it wisely while keeping our own creative thinking. Only in this way can AI truly serve us better.
