B My father, then an income tax officer, began studying law in the last decade of his service. It was extremely difficult for him to manage work, take care of his family and study for law—a three-year course—for which he would attend college in the evenings and take regular exams, at the same time. His colleagues would discourage him with the logic, “Why do you need this? As a government employee, you will receive a life-long pension (退休金).” Others would say, “If you make it, you know there’s no advantage; but if you fail, you become the laughing stock in the department.” Unswerving (坚定的), he kept at it. And so, the law exams posed no challenge for him. Neither did the bar exam that followed. After retiring, he immediately took up work at a law firm specializing in income tax. From here, he retired after 25 years of distinguished service at the age of 84. In this second career, he held a unique record of not having lost a single case there. His contribution hit me only a couple of years ago when I’d accompanied him to an ex-colleague’s son’s wedding. All his past clients were there. They crowded around my 85-year-old father as though he was a film star! They were pleading with him to return or at least to take up their cases part-time from home. This was the perfect example of “brand aura (气质)” that Harvard professors would theorize about in their lectures. That is the power of knowledge. And there’s no age limit to acquiring it. All you need is to be devoted and sincere in your pursuit of it. I’m sharing this so that each one of you can feel as inspired as I have been. Gather the courage to learn and keep growing. It will always give you the best returns over time. 24. Why does the author mention his father’s colleagues’ words? A. To show his father’s legal potential. B. To explain his father’s brief hesitation. C. To highlight his father’s determination. D. To prove his father’s desire for fortune. 25. What was special about the father’s second career in law? A. He achieved a perfect win record. B. He became a Harvard professor. C. He worked with many colleagues. D. He earned large amounts of money. 26. What does the underlined phrase “pleading with” mean in paragraph 3? A. Promising firmly. B. Inviting sincerely. C. Allowing politely. D. Reminding gently. 27. What lesson can we learn from the text? A. A“brand aura” helps gain popularity and trust. B. People should never be satisfied with stable jobs. C. Old-age career change is possible for tax officers. D. Knowledge has power and learning has no age limit. C In the summer of 2021, an unseasonal event took place. More than 100 miles of Florida’s coast around Tampa Bay became an oxygen-depleted (缺氧的) zone containing dead fish along the nearby shoreline. Much of the conversation around our climate crisis highlights the emission of greenhouse gases and their effect on warming, sea-level rise and ocean acidification We hear little about the effect of climate change on oxygen levels, particularly in oceans and lakes. But water without adequate oxygen cannot support life. For the three billion people who depend on coastal fisheries for income, declining ocean oxygen levels are harmful. As ocean and atmospheric scientists focus on climate, we believe that oceanic oxygen levels are the next big victim of global warming. To stop the situation from worsening, we need to expand our attention to include the dangerous state of oceanic oxygen levels — the life-support system of our planet. We need to improve ocean-based climate solutions that boost oxygen. Examples include nature-based solutions such as those discussed at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow. Enhanced monitoring of oxygen and the establishment of an oxygen-accounting system are a must. Putting oxygen into the climate story motivates us to do the work to understand the deep systemic changes happening in our complex atmospheric and oceanic systems. We celebrated the return of humpback whales(座头鲸) in recent years to an increasingly clean New York Harbor and Hudson River. However, dead fish blocked the Hudson in the summer as warmer waters carried less oxygen. Ecosystem changes connected to physical and chemical system-level data may point the way to new approaches to climate solutions. It includes an enhanced understanding of the life-support system of our planet. Roughly 40 percent of the world’s people depend on the ocean for their livelihoods. If we do not save marine life from oxygen starvation, we starve ourselves. 28. What is the result of less ocean oxygen according to the text? A. A rise in the coastal fisheries. B. An increase in deaths of sea animals. C. The warming of the atmosphere. D. The emission of greenhouse gases. 29. What can we infer from Paragraph 3? A. Attention to oceans is necessary. B. Global warming effects are serious. C. Oceanic oxygen levels are dangerous. D. Ways to boost oceanic oxygen are urgent. 30. Why does the author mention humpback whales in Paragraph 4? A. To bring in an oxygen-accounting system in climate. B. To explain the urgency of oxygen levels in atmosphere. C. To show the achievements in reducing air pollution. D. To call for more attention to oxygen starvation in waters. 31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Save Marine Life B. Make Oceans Safe C. Let Oceans Breathe D. Keep the Marine System D The combination of art and technology has always fascinated humanity. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the world of poetry, where artificial intelligence (AI) is starting to make significant steps. AI poets are computer programs designed to compose poems, modeled after (模仿) the style, rhythm, and even some emotional aspects of human works. AI has the ability to analyze vast databases of existing poems, identifying patterns in language, rhyme structures. Using machine-learning patterns, some AI poets can generate new lines of poetry. However, a major question remains: can AI-generated poetry replace the creative wisdom of human-made poetry? Human poets draw on a lifetime of experiences, emotions, and cultural contexts to create their works. They use language not just as a means of communication but as a way to express the unspeakable. In contrast, AI operates based on data and pattern. While it can produce technically perfect poems, it lacks the lived experiences and subjective feelings that give human poetry its quality of being true. Poetry critics often point out that the best poems are those that resonate (产生共鸣) with readers, challenging their perspectives and bringing strong feelings. AI-generated poems, despite their technical complexity, often fail to achieve this emotional reflection. For instance, a human poem about love may capture the pain and joy of romantic relationships while an AI-generated poem on the same topic may seem lacking individual personality and imagination. Supporters of AI poets claim that it can popularize the art form, making poetry creation accessible to anyone with a computer. AI could inspire a new generation of poets. Additionally, AI can introduce novel combinations of words and ideas, expanding the boundaries of what is considered poetry. As the debate continues, the AI in poetry forces us to re-evaluate our understanding of creativity, art, and the human experience and challenges us to consider what makes a poem great. 32. What is the main function of AI poets according to the passage? A. To boost human poets’ creativity. B. To teach people how to write poetry. C. To analyze problems of existing poems. D. To create poems based on human poetry. 33. What is a major limitation of AI-generated poetry compared to human poetry? A. It cannot identify patterns in language. B. It cannot reach the real emotional depth. C. It cannot compose technically perfect poems. D. It cannot produce poems with correct rhymes. 34. What is the potential benefit of AI poets? A. It can analyze traditional poetry. B. It can ensure the quality of poetry. C. It can help more people create poetry. D. It can quickly evaluate human poetry. 35. What is the author’s overall attitude toward AI poets? A. Objective. B. Positive. C. Negative. D. Critical. Friendship needs care and attention to keep it in good health. I was so excited about it since it was my first time to go hiking. I ate a light breakfast just a few slices of bread and an egg. After that I grabbed my backpack and hurriedly ran out of my house and then met my classmates at the school gate. At that time I didn’t think that there would be a terrible disaster ahead. The jungle (丛林) that we are going to was far from our area. Its name was Salymbia Jungle. The drive was 3 hours long but it was not a dull ride as we were all eager about the hike and we bad each other’s company. We appointed a guide and his name was Thomas. He said that he had hiked in the Salymbia Jungle lots of times, and he was familiar with the pathways. When we arrived, Thomas allowed us to begin. There were a wide variety of plants which I had never seen before. The smell of the jungle was so earthy. All of us were amazed by the beauty of the scenery and the sound of the creatures. After a while we were walking and then I looked at my wrist (手腕) to check the time but then I realized my watch had fallen off. Then I walked back without telling anyone. I did not worry about getting lost since there were other persons behind and I thought I would have been able to catch up with my classmates. I went back searching the pathway and I lost track of time and lost sight of my classmates. I immediately realized that I was alone. After I realized I was lost, the first thing I did was to check my phone to see how far away I was from my companions. However, I was having no luck because there was no network in my phone, which made my phone practically useless. The sky started to become darker. I didn’t know what to do(宾语从句), so I called out to my classmates but there was no reply. I looked for a way but none of the scenes seemed familiar. I walked for a few minutes, hoping to meet other people behind(现在分词作状语), but once again it didn’t work. I was scared, hungry and helpless. Still, I knew it was no use being anxious. I needed to keep calm. I decided to stay where I was(状语从句), saving my energy until the rescue team arrived(现在分词作状语). As I was falling asleep, I heard a human voice. I doubted my ears but then I heard someone else. I screamed, “Help!” There was a note of excitement in my voice. They were rescuers who had come searching for me(定语从句)because my classmates reported my missing. They took me back to the bus. The moment I saw my classmates, I couldn’t control my tears in my eyes. They kept asking if I was hurt and what had happened(宾语从句). When they learned I was safe(时间状语从句), they were relieved. What an unforgettable experience! Text 1 M: Look at my Litter Hero T-shirt! Recycled plastic bottles are a kind of money now because the bottles can be exchanged for goods. W: That’s a cool T-shirt. I think I will start collecting waste plastic now. Text 2 W: I really want to swim in the deep end like you, but I’m not a strong swimmer. I’d better stay in the shallow end. M: Come on! Why not swim to the middle of the pool first? I will help if you get into trouble. Text 3 W: I think Tom is a bright student. He did really well with the project I set him. M: Yes, and his articles are always good—better than the others’ in the class. W: Maybe we can set him some more challenging work. Text 4 M: I’m slightly nervous about driving my car to the city in the snow. Maybe we should take the bus instead. W: It will take too long. Let’s head to the subway station before the snow becomes heavier. M: All right. Text 5 W: You shouldn’t snack on so much chocolate. M: It’s dark chocolate. It helps lift my mood and lower the blood pressure. W: That’s true. But too much of it can cause anxiety and irregular heartbeats. Text 6 M: Is this your first time here? W: No. Don cut my hair last week. M: Well, welcome back. I’m Jake. What are we doing today? W: I’d like another cut. I want a thin and short hairstyle for summer. I asked Don to do it, but he didn’t cut enough off. M: He was probably afraid because it was his first day. So, should I take an inch or so off? W: Better make it two. I don’t want to have to pay for another cut in two weeks. M: All right. This haircut should last you a month. Text 7 W: Which continents will you be visiting when you go on your round-the-world trip? M: To start with, I’ll spend two weeks watching birds in Asia before heading for Canada. W: So, North America as well. M: That’s right. I will be traveling through Canada for three weeks, then fly to England, so I’ve got Europe covered too. W: Just England? Or are you going to any other European countries? M: I was thinking about Russia and Germany, but I decided that France would be my second European destination. W: Any other continents? M: Yes, I want to see elephants in the wild. W: So, Africa as well? M: That’s right. W: That is so exciting. I’d love to visit Africa to photograph lions. I believe you can’t wait! Text 8 W: It’s taken us a while to walk this high, but we get a great view of the volcano here and the beach in the distance. M: It’s amazing! Do you notice that there aren’t any trees on it? W: Oh yes, that’s strange. Is it active then? M: Yes, that’s why we’ve climbed the mountain next to it! W: What? I didn’t know it could erupt at any moment! M: Don’t worry. I wouldn’t take my wife anywhere unsafe. It hasn’t erupted in over 20 years. W: But it’s still a bit worrying. M: Let’s take your mind off it by having lunch. I’m hungry! W: OK, well, I brought chicken sandwiches, but I forgot the water. So I bought a Coke from the shop instead. M: Even better! W: Slow down. You’re opening it too quickly! M: Oh no! It has gone everywhere! W: Well, at least it’s the Coke that has erupted and not the volcano! Text 9 M: Excuse me, Mrs. Brown. Do you have a moment? W: Of course, Matt. I’m just finishing up for the day. M: It’s about the school trip next week. W: Yes, I noticed your parents had not yet signed the travel form. M: I’m afraid they don’t want me to go. They think the time would be better spent studying. W: I understand the math exam is coming next month, but education is not just about studying for exams. M: What do you mean? W: Part of your education is about seeing what you study in practice. Thus, we’re going to the museums in New York. M: I totally agree. But I think there’s another reason. We’re going for three nights, but I usually have a violin lesson on Thursday evening. W: Well, I also play the violin. Would it help if I promise we’ll practice together while we’re on the trip? M: That would be amazing! W: OK, I’ll call your parents right now. Text 10 Thank you, everyone, for joining us today. It is cheerful to know that we have so many people living locally who are interested in helping the environment. You volunteers have given me hope that the human race can repair the damage they have done to the planet. Thanks must also go to the public of our town, who donated the money to buy the thousands of trees you will be planting today, and to farmer John Toole, on whose land the trees will be planted. I would also like to thank the Green Fingers Garden Center for selling us these beautiful native trees at cost price. Trees remove and store harmful carbon from the atmosphere. The more we plant, the less carbon there is. On your seats, you will each find a sheet of paper. It shows you how to plant the trees with the tools step by step. And you can collect the tools while you are ready to start at the land gate. If anyone has any questions or problems, feel free to ask me or any of the other volunteers, who are wearing orange jackets. 根据Opening Hours部分中“Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. — 6:00 p.m. (星期六和星期日:上午10点—下午6点)”可知,城市图书馆星期六开放8小时。故选B。 22. 细节理解题。根据Membership部分中“The membership is free for students and costs 50 yuan per year for adults. (学生会员免费,成人会员每年50元。)”可知,所有学生可以获得城市图书馆的免费会员资格。故选A。 23. 根据最后一段中“For more information, please click here.” C 25. A 26. B 27. 根据第一段中的“His colleagues would discourage him with the logic,“Why do you need this? As a government employee, you will receive a life-long pension (退休金).” Others would say,“If you make it, you know there’s no advantage; but if you fail, you become the laughing stock in the department.” 根据第二段中的“In this second career, he held a unique record of not having lost a single case there.(在他的第二份职业中,他在那里保持着从未输过一场官司的独特记录)”可知,父亲在法律领域的第二份职业特别之处在于取得了完美的胜诉记录。故选A项。 26. 根据第三段中的“They crowded around my 85-year-old father as though he was a film star! They were pleading with him to return or at least to take up their cases part-time from home.(他们像围着电影明星一样围着我85岁的父亲!他们……他回来,或者至少在家兼职处理他们的案子。)”可知,人们像对待明星一样围着父亲,真诚要求他回来或兼职处理案子的愿望,“pleading with”应表示“真诚地邀请”。故选B项。 27. 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“That is the power of knowledge. And there’s no age limit to acquiring it. All you need is to be devoted and sincere in your pursuit of it.(这就是知识的力量。获取知识没有年龄限制。你所需要的就是在追求知识的过程中全身心投入且真诚)”可知,文章通过父亲的故事传达出知识具有力量,学习不受年龄限制的道理。故选D项。 C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了海洋氧气含量的不足会导致大量海洋生物的死亡,并呼吁人们采取措施拯救海洋生物。 28. 细节理解题。根据第一段中“In the summer of 2021, an unseasonal event took place. More than 100 miles of Florida’s coast around Tampa Bay became an oxygen-depleted (缺氧的) zone containing dead fish along the nearby shoreline. (2021年夏天,发生了一件非季节性事件。佛罗里达州坦帕湾周围100多英里的海岸线变成了一个缺氧区,附近的海岸线上有死鱼。)”可知,海洋氧气减少会导致海洋生物死亡数量的增加。故选B项。 29. 推理判断题。根据第三段中“As ocean and atmospheric scientists focus on climate, we believe that oceanic oxygen levels are the next big victim of global warming. To stop the situation from worsening, we need to expand our attention to include the dangerous state of oceanic oxygen levels — the life-support system of our planet. We need to improve ocean-based climate solutions that boost oxygen. (随着海洋和大气科学家关注气候,我们相信海洋氧气水平是全球变暖的下一个大受害者。为了阻止情况恶化,我们需要扩大我们的注意力,包括海洋氧气水平的危险状态——我们星球的生命维持系统。我们需要加快以海洋为基础的增加氧气的气候解决方案。)”可知,研究提高海洋氧气含量的解决方案迫在眉睫。故选D项。 30. 推理判断题。根据第四段中“We celebrated the return of humpback whales in recent years to an increasingly clean New York Harbor and Hudson River. However, dead fish blocked the Hudson in the summer as warmer waters carried less oxygen. 通读全文,结合第二段中“But water without adequate oxygen cannot support life. For the three billion people who depend on coastal fisheries for income, declining ocean oxygen levels are harmful. (但是没有足够氧气的水是无法维持生命的。对于依靠沿海渔业获取收入的30亿人来说,海洋含氧量的下降是毁灭性的)”、第三段中“We need to improve ocean-based climate solutions that boost oxygen. Examples include nature-based solutions such as those discussed at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow. (我们需要加快以海洋为基础的增加氧气的气候解决方案。例如,在格拉斯哥举行的2021年联合国气候变化大会(COP26)上讨论的基于自然的解决方案。)”和最后一段中“If we do not save marine life from oxygen starvation, we starve ourselves. 根据第一段中“AI poets are computer programs designed to compose poems, modeled after the style, rhythm, and even some emotional aspects of human works. (AI诗人是计算机程序,旨在模仿人类作品的风格、节奏甚至某些情感方面来创作诗歌。)”可知,AI诗人的主要功能是根据人类诗歌创作诗歌。故选D。 33. 细节理解题。根据第三段中“While it can produce technically perfect poems, it lacks the lived experiences and subjective feelings that give human poetry its quality of being true. (虽然它能创作出技术上完美的诗歌,但它缺乏人类诗歌所具有的真实品质的生活经验和主观感受。)”以及第四段中“AI-generated poems, despite their technical complexity, often fail to achieve this emotional reflection. (尽管AI生成的诗歌在技术上很复杂,但往往无法达到这种情感反映。)”可知,与人类诗歌相比,AI生成的诗歌的一个主要局限性是它无法达到真正的情感深度。故选B。 34. 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“Supporters of AI poets claim that it can popularize the art form, making poetry creation accessible to anyone with a computer. (AI诗人的支持者声称,它可以普及这种艺术形式,让任何有电脑的人都能创作诗歌。)”可知,AI诗人的潜在益处是它可以帮助更多的人创作诗歌。故选C。 35. 推理判断题。根据文章内容可知,文章介绍了AI诗人的主要功能;与人类诗歌相比, AI生成的诗歌的局限性;AI诗人的潜在益处等,作者对AI诗人的态度是相当客观的。故选A。 【36题详解】 上文“With busy schedules, squeezing in phone calls can be a challenge.”(平日繁忙,很难抽出时间打电话。) 【37题详解】 根据空前的“Make sure you have communicated ... what method works best for you both”以及空后的“There are alternatives ... a group chat”可知,空处内容应与交流方式相关。G项承接上文,进一步提出对交流方式的沟通,空前的“what method works best for you both”与选项G中的“their preferred methods of communication”对应,属于近义复现,且空后一句对G项中的“methods of communication”进行了举例说明,上下文语意连贯。 【38题详解】 下文“The friend who is remaining”(留下来的朋友)和“The one in the new environment”(在新环境中的那个)提到朋友的两个不同处境,F项“你可能是朋友离开的那一方,也可能是被留下的那一方”指出了异地友谊中分为离开的一方和留下的一方,其中“the friend who left”和“the one who was left behind”分别对应下文“The one in the new environment”和“The friend who is remaining”,所以F项符合题意。 下文“Anniversaries and birthdays carry even more weight in long-distance friendships.”(周年纪念日和生日对于异地友谊而言是非常重要的。) 故选A项。 【40题详解】 设空处所在句子的后半句“but long-distance friendships — even close ones — may require more conscious effort to sustain.”(但是异地友谊——甚至是关系亲密的友谊——可能需要更加自觉地去维系。) 41. The first day's visit started with a tErica ter army. Standing in front of rows of place soldiers, I noticed one warrior figure with a faint smile on his face, as if guarding a secret. On the second day, on my way to the billion museum, a group of children on a school trip noticed me and greeted me happily. Later, I rented a bicycle and wrote all the way along the city wall at sunset, an old man wearing a straw hat wave at me. He taught me how to fly a kite shaped like a dragon. The third day was spent expLoring the bustling market at a street stall. I tried my hand at paper cutting art. I had intended to cut out a tiger, but the final result looked more like a dog or a fox.
