Down the rabbit hole
One sunny day, Alice and her sister sat by a river. Then Alice heard a sound. She looked up and saw a white rabbit in a coat passing by.
“Oh dear! I’ll be late!" said the rabbit. It took a watch out of its pocket and looked at the time.
How amazing! Alice stood up and ran across the field after the rabbit. The rabbit jumped down a big hole. Alice did not want to let the rabbit get away, so she jumped down the hole too.
Down, down, down. Alice fell for a long time, and then she hit the ground. She found herself alone in a long, low hall. There were doors all around, but they were all locked. Alice saw a small key on a table, but it did not fit any of the locks.
Then Alice noticed a small door and put the key into the lock. The door opened!
She could see a lovely garden on the other side. Alice tried to go through the door,
but she was too big.

Think about the questions below. Share your answers with your classmates.
1 What would you do if you saw a talking rabbit?
If I saw a talking rabbit, I’d first be really surprised and might even doubt my eyes and ears. Then, I'd try to calm down and start a conversation with it. I’d be curious to know where it came from, if it has any special stories to tell, and what kind of world it belongs to. Maybe I’d follow it for a while to see if it leads me to some amazing places, just like Alice did.
23021
31
2 How do you think Alice can go through the door?
I think Alice might find a magic potion or a special cake in the hall. Just like in the story, there are many magical things in Wonderland. If she eats or drinks something magical, she could shrink in size. Once she becomes small enough, she'll be able to go through the small door and enter the lovely garden on the other side.
23021
32
3 What kind of person do you think Alice is? Give your reasons.
Alice is a curious, brave, and adventurous person. She is curious because when she saw the white rabbit taking out a watch and checking the time, she was intrigued and ran across the field after it, showing her strong desire to explore the unknown. She is brave as she jumped down the hole without hesitation, even though she didn’t know where it would lead. Additionally, she is adventurous—instead of staying safely by the river, she chose to follow the rabbit into the unknown, taking risks to see what would happen next.
