This smart technology seemed like the entrance to only fun and positive things like chatting with friends and blogging. However, seven years later, I had become horribly limited to it. Recent reports show that I’m not alone. According to a study, the average American spends five hours a day on smart devices and about 2.5 of those hours are spent on social, messaging, media and entertainment apps. It’s hard to explain when the love and joy I felt for my iPhone turned into a dependency. I fell asleep to my phone every night and woke to it each morning. I checked the weather app every morning before I chose how to dress for the day. I used it to help me find my way through a city I should know well enough on my own. I updated my email box every time I picked my phone up. Just like with any addiction, my phone dependency began to influence my life. While spending time with family, I’d stare into a small screen on my lap instead of being involved in communicating with my loved ones. At work, my productivity levels dropped. And then, my four-year relationship came to an end. Eventually, I was left with years of memories and a mobile phone that couldn’t provide enjoyable company across a dinner table, share in the joys of experiencing a concert or kiss me goodnight before bed. Now, I move through life with more purpose and intention. I’ve cut back on carelessly giving away my limited time and attention to my phone. Instead, I focus my efforts on being as present as possible. Truly training the mind to stay present is a long and challenging road, but it’s important to start somewhere. I hope you’ll take a deep look at your own phone habits and reevaluate how important a role you are letting it play in your life. Whether or not you’ve reached a place in your life where your screen time feels problematic, there’s no harm in mindfully giving your current practices some thought. 4. Why does the author mention the study in Paragraph 2? A. To show he is different from others. B. To prove smartphone overuse is common. C. To explain how to use smart devices properly. D. To encourage people to follow the study. 5. What does Paragraph 4 mainly focus on? A. Why the author’s productivity levels dropped. B. Why the author finally had phone dependency. C. How the author bravely corrected his mistakes. D. How the author’s life was negatively affected. 6. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph? A. Persuade people to live a no-phone life. B. Advise people to use their phones reasonably. C. Inspire people to consider their roles in life again. D. Urge people to devote their spare time to screens. 7. What is the author’s attitude towards phone dependency? A. Supportive. B. Critical. C. Uncaring. D. Doubtful. C Nowadays, everyone’s days are busy and fitting in physical activity is frequently overlooked. But a new study, published in Circulation, suggests that doing just five extra minutes of exercise each day can help lower blood pressure. High blood pressure is one of the biggest health issues globally, affecting 1.28 billion adults around the world. It can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure and many other health problems, which is often described as the “silent killer” due to its lack of symptoms(症状). Experts have long known that exercise is good for the heart. But researchers wanted to see whether even a tiny amount of additional exercise could make a difference. In the study, researchers collected health data from over 14,000 volunteers, to explore the relationship between daily physical activities and blood pressure levels. Each participant wore a device that recorded their movements throughout the day and then had their blood pressure measured. The average day of the participants consisted of sedentary activities like sitting, watching TV or using the computer, and more vigorous exercise such as running, cycling or stair climbing. Using this data, the researchers then estimated (估计) how changing those habits could change blood pressure. The results showed that adding five minutes of exercise can produce improvements in blood pressure. Replacing any less active behavior with five minutes of exercise per day, such as stair climbing, cycling, or running, could lower systolic (心脏收缩的) blood pressure (SBP) by 0.68 millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and diastolic (舒张的) blood pressure (DBP) by 0.54mmHg 2. “Our findings suggest that, for most people, exercise is key to reducing blood pressure.” Dr. Jo Blodgett, the first author of the study, from UCL, said, “The good news is that whatever your physical ability, it doesn’t take long to have a positive effect on blood pressure.” According to Blodgett, adding five extra minutes is a double goal for most people, even with a busy schedule. Imagine just taking a five-minute walk or even stretching a bit more each day. By doing this, you’re improving your heart health without needing any major lifestyle changes. 8. Why is high blood pressure often called the “silent killer”? A. It has noticeable symptoms. B. It causes severe health issues. C. It affects most adults globally. D. It develops without symptoms. 9. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. The procedures of the research. B. The benefits of physical exercise. C. The causes of high blood pressure. D. The movements of the participants. 10. What’s Blodgett’s view on adding five minutes of exercise? A. Only possible for the active. B. Difficult for those volunteers. C. Achievable for most people. D. Not beneficial for heart health. 11. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Benefits of Different Types of Daily Activities B. The Growing Global Problem of High Blood Pressure C. Daily Exercise Completely Improves High Blood Pressure D. Five Extra Minutes of Daily Exercise Lowers Blood Pressure D The number of seabirds killed by colliding (撞击) with wind turbines could be cut by painting black-and-white stripes on the blades (叶片), and poles, say researchers. Graham Martin at the University of Birmingham, UK, and Alex Banks at Natural England, a public organization that has a say in planning applications for offshore wind farms in England, wanted to design a pattern that could be easily painted onto turbines to reduce their impact on bird life. Between 140,000 and 328,000 birds are killed each year by onshore wind turbines in the US, according to, one estimate. It is harder to tell how many birds are killed by offshore turbines each year, says Martin, as they fall into the ocean. A previous study, published in 2020, looked at the effect of painting a single blade black on four onshore turbines in Norway. Bird collisions were reduced by 70 percent compared with all-white turbines nearby. Martin believes that further improvements could have an even greater impact. Based on analysis of previous studies into bird vision and bird collisions with wind turbines, the two researchers came up with a series of guiding principles to aid their design of a turbine that would harm. fewer birds. “Most birds do not see too much fine detail in their vision - especially compared to humans,” says Martin, so any design shouldn’t be too complex. Many collisions occur in low light, so the design should be easy to decipher in the dark, while high internal contrast would help the turbine stand out against different backgrounds, such as a cloudy or sunny sky. In low levels of light, black-and-white patterns are best, says Martin. “In the dark, a red-and-white pattern would rapidly look like shades of grey,” he says. The design hasn’t yet been tested, but Martin hopes that manufacturers will consider it, particularly as it would be easy and cheap to implement. 12. What can we know about Martin and Banks? A. They have a say in planning applications. B. They improve the efficiency of wind turbines. C. They seek to reduce negative influence on bird life. D. They design colorful turbines to help birds see clear. 13. What’s the purpose of the second paragraph? A. To state the seriousness of bird collisions. B. To estimate the death rate of bird collisions. C. To compare the different wind turbine designs. D. To criticize the poor design of the wind turbines. 14. What does the underlined word “decipher” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Differ. B. Recognize. C. Clarify. D. Impress. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. A severe seabird collision phenomenon. B. A new study on seabirds vision. C. A potential wind turbine application. D. A novel wind turbine design. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Have you ever found yourself craving (渴望) a second helping of dessert after a filling dinner? ___16___. Although it was my first time staying at home, I still refused my mother’s suggestion to go to the neighbor Jenkins’s house. That odd old man, who looks like a bad guy in a fairy tale, is often laughed at and talked about by nearby children. It is obvious that he is a person without friends, except for my kind parents. As instructed by my mother, I locked the door, did my homework first, and then turned on the TV. Just as I was enjoying my favorite animated series, a thunderous sound rang out, and then the TV went out. Even worse, the lights went out and everything went dark. I tried to pull myself together and find a source of light. I could hardly see anything, so I had to wave my arms in front of me to avoid hitting any furniture. I moved towards the kitchen cabinet where I could remember my mother storing some candles for emergencies. Suddenly, I heard footsteps coming towards my house. My heart was filled with tension. Who could that be? It can’t be Mom and Dad, they have been setting off for half a day, and by now they may have arrived at their destination. That’s the thief! I confidently told myself. My heart raced as the footsteps grew closer, and I nervously grasped a kitchen knife to defend myself. But before I could even grasp it, a gentle knock came on the door, followed by a familiar voice. “Hello? Is everything alright there? ” It was Mr. Jenkins. How was it him? Did he want to steal things while my parents are not around? Despite my initial fear, something about his tone felt reassuring. I hesitated for a moment, and then cautiously approached the door. “Mr. Jenkins? What are you doing here? ” I asked through the locked door. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 “Can you open the door? ” he replied in a steady voice. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As we sat at the kitchen table, Mr. Jenkins began to share his funny childhood stories. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 惠州市华罗庚中学2025-2026学年第二学期高二期中质量检测 英语试题 考试时间:120分钟 满分:120分 第一部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A 【1~3题答案】 【答案】1.
