Beijing helped make my dreams come true. When I studied in Beijing, it heard my voice, accompanied me through sunrise and sunset and gave me courage to move forward.
The beauty of Beijing is deeply carved in my mind. Against the red walls and green riles (瓦) of the Forbidden City, sparkling snowflakes float down from the sky, creating a beautiful and serene picture.
To me, who grew up in the tropics, snow seems as attractive as the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. After a night's snow, everywhere magically becomes as beautiful as a fairy tale.
Did you see the first snow in Beijing in the winter of 2020-2021? I saw it and touched it in person. Located in the outskirts (市郊) of Beijing, Beijing WTown (古北水镇) is a small town with many of the architectural features of the classical gardens in the historical city of Suzhou in eastern China. When snow fall, it looks like a perfect landscape painting. I still feel warm when I recall the scene now, and words can't adequately express my feelings at that time. A scene like this is capable of relieving any amount stress for tourists.
I love Beijing not only for its fascinating sights but also for the precious friendship I established with international students studying here. Beijing is a place where students from various countries meet. Although it often seems exciting when we meet, saying goodbye remains inevitable. Even though all good things must come to an end, everything has its season, and the time to come together will come again.
Many other moments inspire me to express my feelings to Beijing. I know that these memories will eventually dissolve in fragments of time, but so what? I love Beijing and always will.
4. Why does the author compare snow to the forbidden fruit in paragraph 3?
A. To praise Beijing. B. To show her love of snow.
C. To describe snow. D. To state the truth of weather.
5. What does the underlined word “inevitable” in the last to second paragraph mean?
A. Unavoidable. B. Important. C. Valuable. D. Challenging.
6. What can we learn about the author according to the text?
A. She liked the sunrise and sunset in Beijing.
B. She was sensitive to the weather of Beijing.
C. She was attracted by different aspects in Beijing.
D. She felt both happy and sad in Beijing WTown.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An Unforgettable Journey B. The Snow in Beijing
C. A Beautiful City—WTown D. My Beijing Fascination

A polar bear’s dining habits create a significant food source for other Arctic animals. Each year, a polar bear leaves behind about 300 kilograms of leftovers. Researchers estimate (估计) that totals 7.6 million kilograms of food available to other species. This leftover meat plays an important role in supporting Arctic wildlife. Polar bears mainly hunt and feed on seals (海豹), especially ringed seals, and they generally eat only the fat, leaving much of the rest behind.
Today, about 26,000 polar bears live in the Arctic. During the busy hunting season, a bear kills about one seal every three to five days, amounting to some 1,000 kilograms of prey (猎物) each year. A bear eats about 70 percent of that, leaving the remaining 30 percent behind. These leftovers provide millions of kilograms of food for animals including Arctic foxes, gulls, ravens, and occasionally snowy owls and wolves. Birds also fly overhead, waiting to feed.
However, as the Arctic warms, sea ice is melting, leaving polar bears with fewer resting spots to hunt. Earlier research showed bears often have to swim long distances between meals, which tires and weakens them and has led some to die of hunger. This could reduce polar bear populations. “If that happens, the leftovers they leave behind will likely decrease as well,” says researcher Pilfold.
His team studied two areas where polar bear numbers are dropping. About 323,000 kilograms of leftovers are likely being lost each year. Melting ice may also make it harder for some animals to reach these leftovers.
“It’s hard to predict how reduced leftovers might affect other species,” says Jon Aars, a polar bear expert. “But it will have an impact one way or another. And how big the impact is will depend on the species and which part of the Arctic we look at.”
8. What do we learn about polar bears’ eating habits?
A. They mainly feed on the fat of their prey.
B. They eat every part of the seals they kill.
C. They share their leftovers mainly with birds.
D. They kill one seal every day during winter.
9. What mainly causes fewer polar bear leftovers?
A. The number of seals is getting smaller.
B. Polar bears have to swim longer to hunt.
C. Rising temperatures are reducing sea ice.
D. More polar bears are competing for food.
10. What does Jon Aars suggest in the last paragraph?
A. Every species will suffer equally. B. The impact will differ across areas.
C. Polar bear numbers will increase soon. D. Scientists can measure the exact effects.
11. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. How Polar Bears Hunt for Food B. Why Polar Bears’ Leftovers Matter
C. Climate Change and Its Arctic Effects D. Life Conditions of Animals in the Arctic
D
Once living in our backyards, many pets — for better and for worse — have now become spoiled “fur babies (毛孩子)”, enjoying constant attention, special treatment, and comforts once reserved for human babies. Many see this as harmless fun, but the increasing tendency to treat pets as “children” can have serious health and welfare (福利) consequences for the animals involved.
The pet-to-fur-baby evolution can be credited (归因) to many things, including overemphasis (过度强调) on the human-animal bond, ignorance of animals’ biological needs, irresistible (无法抵挡的) consumerism and showing off. The major causes and outcomes of fur babyism have strengthened and spread globally. Evidence for this is inescapable and goes beyond the availability of clothes for birthdays, festivals and so on. Strollers (推车), jewellery, nappies (尿布), nail polish, birthday cakes and shoes are now available for the modern fur baby, as are “gold standard” veterinary (兽医的) treatments.
The negative health effects of fur babyism are well documented. Take strollers for dogs: while potentially useful for animals with disabilities, their overuse in other dogs can lead to weakening of muscles, joint damage and obesity (肥胖症). Restricting the fur baby’s movement limits its natural ability to explore, mark territory (领地) and interact with environmental features, such as others of its species, leading to fear and anxiety.
Given these potential health and welfare risks, one would expect veterinary experts to take a leading role in saying no to the “fur baby” phenomenon. Strangely, attitudes among veterinarians vary widely — some criticize the trend while others support it and even profit (获利) from it. The latter is troubling because over-treatment may further harm animal welfare without necessarily improving health. Owners’ love for their pets is understandable, but must be balanced by prioritizing the animals’ interests. What is far less acceptable is the vet who cashes in on an owner’s misguided love for their pet to conduct unnecessary, painful and expensive tests and operations on an animal that cannot give its permission (许可).
All caregivers should reflect on the suffering that may arise when animals are treated improperly: that is, as children rather than dogs or cats. And vets chasing the fur baby trend should know better.
12. Which action below reflects fur babyism?
A. Training pets to follow basic commands.
B. Celebrating pets’ birthday with a special treat.
C. Taking pets to the vet only when they are ill.
D. Providing pets with daily food and clean water.
13. Why would strollers damage a dog’s health?
A. They destroy the territory for dogs to explore.
B. They let disabled dogs take up too much space.
C. They rob the normal dogs of their chances to exercise.
D. They frighten the dogs and awaken their negative emotions.
14. What does the writer find unacceptable?
A. The vets’ greed and irresponsibility. B. The owner’s love and ignorance.
C. The animal’s inability to say no. D. The society’s lack of reflection.
15. What is the writer’s attitude toward vets chasing the fur baby trend?
A. Positive. B. Uncertain. C. Understanding. D. Critical.

Bedtime Rituals
At the end of a long day, you might want to collapse in front of the TV and watch an episode of your favorite show. ____16____ Settling down with a cup of lemon tea or reading a book can tell your body it’s time to sleep. If you turn these activities into a ritual— that is, if you do them every night around the same time — you will be all the more likely to get the rest you need.

If your current habits don’t support good sleep, a bedtime ritual can help you make necessary changes.____17____ Worry can make it hard to fall asleep at night, but for some people, anxiety at bedtime is common. Rituals can provide comfort by offering predictability and structure. Some rituals, such as journaling, might also relieve anxiety by giving the writer a fresh perspective or sense of meaning.
____18____ Consider trying several bedtime rituals before settling on a consistent routine. What’s important is figuring out what works for you. Start out with two or three activities according to your needs and preferences. If you enjoy exercise and movement, try yoga or gentle stretching. If you find comfort in order, create a to-do list for the next day.____19____
Whether your bedtime ritual takes place in bed or somewhere else, make sure your environment is relaxing. Wear comfortable clothes or pajamas, curl up under a cozy blanket, and keep the lights low.____20____
A. Bedtime rituals can also help you reduce anxiety.
B. There’s no fixed format for the perfect bedtime ritual.
C. Then when the time comes to fall asleep, you’ll be ready.
D. For adults, bedtime rituals typically last 30 minutes to an hour.
E. If classical music calms you, turn on some Bach or Mozart enjoying a bath.

Flowers for You
Flowers should be presented to winners. Why should they be given to this loser? Since she failed four days ago at the International Gymnastics Championships, Lily felt ashamed. Now she was back at the Capital Airport from abroad. Upon entering the airport, Lily wished she could hide her head under her collar. She was afraid to face the people who had come to welcome her right at the airport.
Two years before, Lily took part in an international competition for the first time, and unexpectedly she won two world titles. When Lily returned home that year, she was given a warm welcome in the same place. Many fans and reporters applauded her for the wonderful performance. And some stewardesses (女乘务员) would surround her, greeting warmly and presenting beautiful flowers. Of them, a quiet stewardesses named June always hugged her with a sincere smile, and said to her “You are beautiful”. Lily would smile brightly back at June, thinking of her as a special girl.
During the past two years, Lily had taken part in many international competitions and brought back many shining medals. She got smiles, flowers and cheers. She felt proud. But the more she won, the more fear Lily had of losing. So her mind was, in fact, more burdened with success.
In order to avoid people at the airport, Lily hid herself among the crowd with a hat. Walking past a group of tourists holding cherry blossom flags, she saw reporters gathering near the luggage area. Their cameras followed a smiling badminton star as kids handed him sunflowers. When no one noticed her, Lily felt even more ashamed. She pulled her hat down, feeling some tears welling up in her eyes. The cheers for the badminton star pierced her ears like needles. She glanced down at her empty hands — no medals, no glory, just the bitter taste of defeat. She felt frustrated as if she was forgotten in a distant corner while others shone brightly.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为100个左右;
Lily was about to flee, when a soft voice “Lily” stopped her.

B 5. A 6. C 7. D
根据第三段中的“To me, who grew up in the tropics, snow seems as attractive as the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden.(对我来说,作为一个在热带长大的人,雪就像伊甸园中的禁果一样迷人。)”
根据倒数第二段中的“Beijing is a place where students from various countries meet. Although it often seems exciting when we meet, saying goodbye remains inevitable. Even though all good things must come to an end, everything has its season, and the time to come together will come again. (北京是一个各国学生相聚的地方。虽然我们相聚时常常令人兴奋,但说再见仍然是inevitable。尽管所有美好的事物都必须结束,但万物皆有时节,相聚的时刻还会再来。)”,结合“all good things must come to an end(所有美好的事物都必须结束)” 可知,来自不同国家的学生相聚在北京,相聚之后必然会有分别,所以说再见是“不可避免的”,所以划线单词的意思与“不可避免的”意义相近相近。故选A项。
根据第二段“The beauty of Beijing is deeply carved in my mind. Against the red walls and green riles (瓦) of the Forbidden City, sparkling snowflakes float down from the sky, creating a beautiful and serene picture. (北京的美丽深深地刻在我的脑海里。在紫禁城红墙绿瓦的映衬下,晶莹的雪花从天空飘落,营造出一幅美丽而宁静的画面。)”以及第四段“Did you see the first snow in Beijing in the winter of 2020-2021? I saw it and touched it in person. Located in the outskirts (市郊) of Beijing, Beijing WTown (古北水镇) is a small town with many of the architectural features of the classical gardens in the historical city of Suzhou in eastern China. When snow fall, it looks like a perfect landscape painting. (你看到 2020 - 2021 年冬天北京的第一场雪了吗?我亲眼看到并触摸到了它。位于北京市郊的古北水镇是一个具有中国东部历史名城苏州古典园林许多建筑特色的小镇。下雪的时候,它看起来就像一幅完美的山水画。)”可知,作者被北京的雪景和风景所吸引;再根据第五段中的“I love Beijing not only for its fascinating sights but also for the precious friendship I established with international students studying here. (我爱北京,不仅因为它迷人的景色,还因为我与在这里学习的国际学生建立了珍贵的友谊。)”可知,作者也被在北京所建立的友谊所吸引,由此可推断,作者被北京的不同方面所吸引。故选C项。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Beijing helped make my dreams come true. When I studied in Beijing, it heard my voice, accompanied me through sunrise and sunset and gave me courage to move forward. (北京帮助我实现了梦想。当我在北京学习的时候,它倾听我的声音,陪伴我度过日出日落,给了我前进的勇气。)”以及最后一段中的“I know that these memories will eventually dissolve in fragments of time, but so what? I love Beijing and always will. (我知道这些记忆最终会消散在时间的碎片中,但那又怎样呢?我爱北京,永远都会。)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者在北京学习期间,被北京的雪景、风景以及与国际学生建立的友谊等方面所吸引,表达了作者对北京的喜爱之情,所以题目“我对北京的迷恋” 作为标题最能概括文章主旨。故选D项。

A 9. C 10. B 11. B
根据第一段“Polar bears mainly hunt and feed on seals (海豹), especially ringed seals, and they generally eat only the fat, leaving much of the rest behind. (北极熊主要以海豹为食,尤其是环斑海豹,它们通常只吃脂肪,留下大部分其他部分。)”可知,北极熊主要吃猎物的脂肪。故选A项。
根据第三段“However, as the Arctic warms, sea ice is melting, leaving polar bears with fewer resting spots to hunt. (然而,随着北极变暖,海冰正在融化,留给北极熊捕猎的休息地点越来越少。)”以及第四段“His team studied two areas where polar bear numbers are dropping. About 323,000 kilograms of leftovers are likely being lost each year. (他的团队研究了两个北极熊数量下降的地区。每年大约有32.3万公斤的剩余食物可能正在流失。)”可知,气温上升导致海冰减少是北极熊剩余食物减少的主要原因。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段““It’s hard to predict how reduced leftovers might affect other species,” says Jon Aars, a polar bear expert. “But it will have an impact one way or another. And how big the impact is will depend on the species and which part of the Arctic we look at.”(北极熊专家Jon Aars说:“很难预测剩余食物的减少会如何影响其他物种。但它会以某种方式产生影响。影响的大小将取决于物种以及我们观察的是北极的哪个部分。”)”可知,Jon Aars认为影响会因地区而异。故选B项。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,尤其是第一段“A polar bear’s dining habits create a significant food source for other Arctic animals. (北极熊的饮食习惯为其他北极动物创造了重要的食物来源。)”以及后文关于气候变化对北极熊剩余食物影响的讨论可知,文章主要介绍了北极熊剩余食物的重要性。因此,B项“Why Polar Bears’ Leftovers Matter (为什么北极熊的剩余食物很重要)”作为标题最合适。故选B项。
D. Critical.
B 13. C 14. A 15. D

根据第二段中的“Evidence for this is inescapable and goes beyond the availability of clothes for birthdays, festivals and so on. Strollers (推车), jewellery, nappies (尿布), nail polish, birthday cakes and shoes are now available for the modern fur baby, as are “gold standard” veterinary (兽医的) treatments. (这一现象的证据无处不在,除了为宠物准备生日、节日等穿的衣服外,如今还能为现代“毛孩子”买到婴儿推车、珠宝、尿布、指甲油、生日蛋糕和鞋子,以及“黄金标准”的兽医治疗服务。)”可知,用特殊美食庆祝宠物生日属于“毛孩子化”行为。故选B项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Take strollers for dogs: while potentially useful for animals with disabilities, their overuse in other dogs can lead to weakening of muscles, joint damage and obesity (肥胖症). Restricting the fur baby’s movement limits its natural ability to explore, mark territory (领地) and interact with environmental features, such as others of its species, leading to fear and anxiety. (虽然婴儿推车对残疾动物可能有用,但对其他狗狗过度使用会导致肌肉萎缩、关节损伤和肥胖。限制“毛孩子”的活动会限制它们探索、标记领地以及与同类等环境事物互动的本能,从而引发恐惧和焦虑。)”可知,宠物推车剥夺了正常狗狗的运动机会,进而损害健康。故选C项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Owners’ love for their pets is understandable, but must be balanced by prioritizing the animals’ interests. What is far less acceptable is the vet who cashes in on an owner’s misguided love for their pet to conduct unnecessary, painful and expensive tests and operations on an animal that cannot give its permission. (主人对宠物的爱是可以理解的,但必须以优先考虑动物的利益为平衡。更令人无法接受的是,兽医利用主人对宠物错位的爱,对无法给出许可的动物进行不必要、痛苦且昂贵的检查和手术来牟利。)”可知,作者认为兽医的贪婪与不负责任让人无法接受。故选A项。
根据第四段中的“Strangely, attitudes among veterinarians vary widely — some criticize the trend while others support it and even profit (获利) from it. The latter is troubling because over-treatment may further harm animal welfare without necessarily improving health. (奇怪的是,兽医们的态度差异很大——一些人批评这一趋势,而另一些人则支持它,甚至从中获利。后者令人担忧,因为过度治疗可能会进一步损害动物福利,而不一定能改善健康。)”以及“What is far less acceptable is the vet who cashes in on an owner’s misguided love for their pet to conduct unnecessary, painful and expensive tests and operations on an animal that cannot give its permission.(更令人无法接受的是,兽医利用主人对宠物错位的爱,对无法给出许可的动物进行不必要、痛苦且昂贵的检查和手术来牟利。)”和最后一段中的“And vets chasing the fur baby trend should know better. (而追逐“毛孩子”潮流的兽医本应更明事理。)”可知,作者明确批判了那些追逐“毛孩子”潮流、利用主人错位的爱牟利、进行过度治疗的兽医,认为他们的行为损害了动物福利,且本应具备专业素养,明白过度溺爱对动物的危害,因此作者对这类兽医的态度是批判的。故选D项。

She suddenly realized that she was not forgotten. The flowers for the loser were not sympathy, but respect for her efforts. With a grateful smile, she hugged June tightly, feeling the warmth of understanding melt her frustration.
