Cao Youzhong, 34, a successful e-commerce farmer, worked in big cities after college graduation, before returning to his rural hometown in east China’s Shandong Province more than four years ago.
He built his own brand of garden produce and has become well-known for his e-commerce business in Gengdian Village in the city of Liaocheng, managing 3.3 hectares of pears, six vegetable greenhouses and 11 grape greenhouses there. He had a bumper pear harvest this year, with net income of 75,000 yuan per hectare, much more than what he had earned in cities. His total net income is expected to reach 420,000 yuan this year.
However, two decades ago, locals relied on growing wheat and corn for a living and their average annual income per person back then was less than 3,000 yuan, which prompted many young villagers to go to cities as migrant workers, leaving behind those born mostly in the 1950s and 1960s to take care of the farmland.
In recent years, as China moved to advance rural revitalization (乡村振兴), nearly 120 young people born in the 1980s and 1990s in Gengdian Village have returned there from cities and joined the new generation of farmers. They often brought back funds, modern farming concepts and e-commerce business models to help transform the farming landscape. The small village has set up an intelligent seedling base, a fruit and vegetable cooperative, and a packaging and processing factory, as well as a wholesale market to increase sales, attracting more young people to start their own businesses.
“With the development of modern farming techniques, agricultural materials and machines, as well as an improved environment for agricultural business, young farmers no longer need to labor as hard as their earlier generations,” Cao said, adding that the young farmers are bringing more energy to the village.
Gengdian Village is a great example of the country’s rural revitalization drive. Innovation and entrepreneurship activities are becoming increasingly visible in rural China. Over the past decade, some 11.2 million people have returned to China’s rural areas to set up their own businesses, with each project creating six to seven stable jobs on average, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
4. What do we learn about Cao Youzhong from the first two paragraphs?
A. He ran an e-commerce business in big cities right after college graduation.
B. This year’s pear harvest earned him a net income of 75,000 yuan per hectare.
C. He manages 3.3 hectares of vegetable and grape greenhouses.
D. His total net income reached 420,000 yuan as expected this year.
5. What does the underlined word “prompted” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Blocked. B. Drove. C. Persuaded. D. Delayed.
6. What can be inferred about Gengdian Village from paragraph 4?
A. It has built a complete agricultural production and sales chain.
B. All young returnees have mastered e-commerce skills from cities.
C. It has become the top model of rural revitalization in Shandong.
D. It attracts young returnees mainly through government financial support.
7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Cao Youzhong: A Successful Young Farmer in Shandong
B. Modern Farming Has Greatly Changed China’s Rural Areas
C. More Youths Return to Villages Amid Rural Revitalization Drive
D. E-commerce Opens up New Markets for China’s Agricultural Products
B 5. B 6. A 7. C
根据第二段“He had a bumper pear harvest this year, with net income of 75,000 yuan per hectare (今年他的梨丰收了,每公顷纯收入7.5万元)”可知,今年曹友忠的梨每公顷纯收入7.5万元。
根据第三段“However, two decades ago, locals relied on growing wheat and corn for a living and their average annual income per person back then was less than 3,000 yuan, which prompted many young villagers to go to cities as migrant workers (然而,二十年前,当地人靠种植小麦和玉米为生,当时人均年收入不到3000元,这____许多年轻村民前往城市打工)”可知,收入低使得年轻人去城市打工,“prompted”意思可能是“Drove.”(促使,驱使)。
根据第四段“The small village has set up an intelligent seedling base, a fruit and vegetable cooperative, and a packaging and processing factory, as well as a wholesale market to increase sales (这个小村庄建立了智能育苗基地、果蔬合作社、包装加工厂以及批发市场来增加销售)”可知,耿店村建立了从生产到销售的完整链条。
根据第一段“Cao Youzhong, 34, a successful e-commerce farmer, worked in big cities after college graduation, before returning to his rural hometown in east China’s Shandong Province more than four years ago. (34 岁的曹友忠是一名成功的电商新农人。他大学毕业后曾在大城市务工,四年多前回到了位于中国东部山东省的农村老家。)”和全文可知,文章围绕乡村振兴过程中,如耿店村有许多年轻人回乡创业展开,所以C选项“More Youths Return to Villages Amid Rural Revitalization Drive”(乡村振兴浪潮中更多年轻人回到乡村)最适合作为文章标题。
C
For thousands of years, Chinese writers have travelled all over the country to take down notes about the geographical conditions of each city. Among them, well-known Chinese geographer and writer Li Daoyuan, in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), composed his book, Commentary on the Water Classics, after studying the original literary version, Water Classics. He later expanded the river records to 1,252 from the original 137.
The book is now being studied again by Professor Li Xiaojie and his team from Fudan University. They have been using drawing software and 3D modelling to recreate the waterway situations on a map based on the book description. So far, they have completed research on four rivers.
“Ancient people knew really well how to apply the power of nature to technical considerations,” Li said, giving the example of Qianjin’e, one of the most famous ancient water conservation projects in Luoyang, Henan. In order to lead the river into the city for irrigation in ancient Luoyang, the officials built a canal branch by separating a northwest-southeast river. However, the canal water wasn’t enough to support the citizens in dry seasons. To solve that, on the northern side of the canal branch, the officials built a reservoir (水库) and a channel to lead the water to the canal branch, where the waterways would converge and flow together to the city.
In Commentary on the Water Classics, a total of 2,800 cities are recorded with details. Still, the process of recreation takes much effort. After doing a lot of text analysis and fieldwork, the team has gradually created the model with 3D modelling software based on repeated deductions (推论).
For Professor Li, the book is not only a record of the natural landscape over 1,000 years ago, but also a detailed description of humanity and culture and a treasure for today’s reference.
8. What can we learn about the book Commentary on the Water Classics?
A. It has been out of date. B. It explains 3D modelling.
C. It keeps records of 137 rivers. D. It is based on previous studies.
9. Why does the author mention the Qianjin’e water conservancy project?
A. To prove ancient people’s wisdom in using the power of nature.
B. To explain detailed design principles of ancient water projects.
C. To show the book’s guiding value for modern engineering.
D. To introduce the history of ancient Chinese water conservancy.
10. What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us about model recreation?
A. Its major problems. B. Its detailed analysis.
C. Its complex process. D. Its successful application.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. 3D Technology Fuels Modern Research B. Ancient Classics Inspire Modern Research
C. An Effective Approach to Model Recreation D. A Famous Writer of Chinese Ancient Classics
D 9. A 10. C 11. B

根据第一段“Among them, well-known Chinese geographer and writer Li Daoyuan, in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), composed his book, Commentary on the Water Classics, after studying the original literary version, Water Classics. (其中,中国著名地理学家、作家郦道元在北魏时期(386-534年),在研究了原始文学版本《水经》之后,创作了他的著作《水经注》。)”可知,《水经注》是在先前研究(《水经》)的基础上创作的。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段““Ancient people knew really well how to apply the power of nature to technical considerations,” Li said, giving the example of Qianjin’e, one of the most famous ancient water conservation projects in Luoyang, Henan. (“古人非常清楚如何将自然的力量应用于技术考量,”李教授说,并以河南洛阳最著名的古代水利工程之一千金堨为例。)”可知,作者提到千金堨水利工程是为了证明古人在利用自然力量方面的智慧。
【10题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段“Still, the process of recreation takes much effort. After doing a lot of text analysis and fieldwork, the team has gradually created the model with 3D modelling software based on repeated deductions (推论).

When Martin Roth began his career as a forest ranger in the 1980s, his job was to care for the forest in a way that would ensure continuity for decades, even centuries. Now, with climate change, it’s more about planning for an uncertain future. “It’s turned into disaster management,” says Roth, for whom the 3,000 acres of forest along the northeastern shore of Lake Constance in Germany act as testing ground for high-tech solutions, earning him the nickname “digital forest ranger” in the German forestry community.
After a disastrous storm, the clock starts ticking: damaged trees need to be removed before the arrival of bark beetles (树皮甲虫 ), which breed in dead trees and can go on to destroy entire forests. While it used to take Roth two and a half hours to cover an acre of forest on foot, drones (无人机 ) now let him survey the entire 3,000 acres in a matter of days, so he can quickly locate damaged trees, identify and inform the owners of affected plots, and send information to workers on the ground.
His most recent project is combining body camera footage with AI. “Usually you mark the trees, they’re cut down, and you have no idea how much timber (木材) you’ll end up with — how many cubic meters, what quality, which tree species,” he explains. Now AI, “looking” through his body camera, automatically recognizes the tree species he has marked and estimates the amount of timber it will produce, sending the information to his phone in real time.
Roth’s experience in tackling the challenges of modern forestry with technology is increasingly sought after — colleagues reach out for advice, and he lectures on digitalization in forestry at the Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences. But he warns that technology can never replace a walk through the forest, “I should never believe that the digital twin is reality. I always have to do a reality check.”
12. What effect has climate change had on Martin Roth’s work?
A. It made his job focus on long-lasting forest continuity.
B. It reduced the importance of traditional forestry skills.
C. It required him to abandon technology-based methods.
D. It shifted his role toward managing unexpected forest disasters.
13. How do drones help Roth after a disastrous storm?
A. Kill bark beetles quickly. B. Assess forest damage efficiently.
C. Predict the future climate change. D. Replace the work of ground workers.
14. What is Martin Roth’s attitude towards digital technology in forestry management?
A. Objective. B. Favorable. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent.
15. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To describe the life story of a German forest ranger.
B. To warn about the dangers of climate change to forests.
C. To introduce how technology transforms modern forestry.
D. To stress the irreplaceable value of traditional forestry.
D 13. B 14. A 15. C

根据第一段“Now, with climate change, it’s more about planning for an uncertain future. “It’s turned into disaster management,” says Roth(现在,随着气候变化,更多的是为不确定的未来做规划。罗斯说:“这已经变成了灾害管理”)”可知,气候变化使罗斯的工作重点转向管理意想不到的森林灾害。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“While it used to take Roth two and a half hours to cover an acre of forest on foot, drones (无人机 ) now let him survey the entire 3,000 acres in a matter of days, so he can quickly locate damaged trees, identify and inform the owners of affected plots, and send information to workers on the ground.)过去罗斯步行巡视一英亩森林需要两个半小时,而现在无人机能让他在几天内就完成对3000英亩森林的巡查,这样他就能迅速定位受损树木,识别并通知受影响地块的所有者,并将信息发送给地面工作人员)”可知,暴风雨后无人机帮助罗斯高效评估森林受损情况。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Roth’s experience in tackling the challenges of modern forestry with technology is increasingly sought after — colleagues reach out for advice, and he lectures on digitalization in forestry at the Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences. But he warns that technology can never replace a walk through the forest, “I should never believe that the digital twin is reality. I always have to do a reality check.(罗斯运用技术应对现代林业挑战的经验正备受追捧 —— 同事们纷纷向他请教,他还在罗滕堡应用林业大学讲授林业数字化相关课程。但他提醒道,技术永远无法替代实地走进森林的体验:“我绝不能认为数字孪生就是现实,必须时刻进行实地核验。”)”可知,罗斯既认可技术在林业管理中的作用,又认识到其局限性,对数字技术持客观态度。

Have you ever wondered about the impact of running on a treadmill (跑步机) VS running outside? It turns out that a workout outside yields benefits beyond what you would experience by completing the same workout indoors.
● Increase happiness.
____16____ It can help reduce depression and anxiety, and improve self-esteem and mood. When you exercise outside, your body and mind work together to make you feel happier. In fact, just being outside and breathing fresh air can lower stress and gives you more relaxation. In addition, being near water can enhance these benefits even further.
●____17____
When you exercise in a place with changing ground (like hills, rocks or roots), your body has to work harder to keep moving, and your mind has to stay focused to avoid getting hurt. For example, walking on a treadmill in a gym is very different from hiking on a trail with rocks, roots and changes in height.

Going to the gym and working with an exercise professional has many benefits, because you can take exercise under the direction of the coach. ____18____ It involves doing different types of workout on a regular basis to drive a range of benefits. For example, you can try biking, jogging, hiking or playing tennis. ____19____ Being able to simply step out of your door and get moving will remove both of these barriers.
● Get greater enjoyment.
Believe it or not, enjoying your workouts is very important, especially if you’re new to regular exercise. If you can find physical activities that are fun and help you burn calories and get stronger, you’ll be more likely to keep doing them. Experts often say the best type of exercise is the one you’ll actually do most often. ____20____ You might just find that your favorite workout has been hidden right outside your door.
A. Build social skills.
B. Challenge your body and mind.
C. So, go outside and try something new.
D. Outdoor exercise brings big mental health benefits.

It was coming up to the annual English Carnival in our school. To enrich our school life and show our interest in English, our class planned to put on an English short play. Unexpectedly, I was selected to play one of the leading roles. However, I was an extremely shy and quiet student. I dared not speak English loudly in front of others, let alone perform on a formal stage. The moment I thought of standing in front of the whole school, my heart would pound wildly and my hands would tremble with nervousness.
I was trapped in great anxiety and even wanted to quit the role right away. I turned to my English teacher for help and poured out my inner worry. Sensing my nervousness, my teacher didn’t blame me. Instead, she comforted me patiently and encouraged me to seize this chance to challenge myself. She promised to spare her spare time to practice my lines and correct my pronunciation after school.
When I got home, I shared my stress with my mum. She listened to me gently and gave me warm encouragement. She told me that nobody was born brave and growth lay in stepping out of our comfort zone. If I stuck to practicing and believed in myself, I would surely make it.
Moved by my teacher and my mum, I finally made up my mind to take the challenge. In the following days, I devoted myself to full preparation. I recited my lines over and over again, adjusted my tone and facial expressions, and rehearsed repeatedly with my English teacher. Whenever I felt upset and wanted to give up, my teacher would inspire me, and my mum would comfort me and cheer me up at home.
Soon the day of the English Carnival arrived. Waiting backstage, I was surrounded by great tension. My legs turned weak and my mind went blank. I was seized by fear and even had the foolish idea of escaping at once.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just as I was about to lose heart, my English teacher came to my side instantly. She patted me gently on the shoulder and told me all our hard practice would pay off. She advised me to take it easy and just act as we had rehearsed. Meanwhile, I caught sight of my mum sitting among the audience, wearing a reassuring smile and giving me a thumbs-up. Their support filled me with strength. I gathered all my courage and decided to face the challenge bravely.
Minutes later, I took a deep breath and walked onto the stage. Though I felt a little nervous at first, I soon calmed down and focused on my performance. I delivered my lines fluently and acted naturally. When the play ended, the hall burst into warm applause. Seeing my mum’s proud look and my teacher’s satisfied smile, I felt a strong sense of achievement. I finally overcame my shyness. This English Carnival let me understand that facing fear bravely is the best way to grow into a better self.

5. What does the underlined word “prompted” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Blocked. B. Drove. C. Persuaded. D. Delayed.

A. It has built a complete agricultural production and sales chain.

D. To introduce the history of ancient Chinese water conservancy.

For example, you can try biking, jogging, hiking or playing tennis. ____19____ Being able to simply step out of your door and get moving will remove both of these barriers.
