主题01 人与社会——艺术与体育
Passage 1
(24-25高一下·宁夏银川·期末)
What makes great storytelling for film? There are some tips for filmmakers about the art of it.
One of the most important elements of great storytelling for film is how the story is told. Great movies can throw curve balls (曲线球) that you don’t see coming. 1 The standard structure for any kind of storytelling is to introduce your characters, setting and genre at the start. Any problem should be encountered somewhere in the middle of the story. 2 If you’ve got a brilliant story, think about what would happen if you began your film with the ending. Try experimenting with the timing of events, and how the order can impact the audience’s view.
With a clear structure, you should consider how to grab the audience’s attention quickly. 3 Your story may be wonderful, but if it takes too long to get into, you might lose your audience before you’ve got going. With so much competition, you need to act fast. Pay particular attention to the first 10 pages of your script.
Remember that when reading the script, you should want to read on and be gripped. Let somebody read your script and ask them whether they want to continue on after 10 pages. 4
As with any content you create, understanding your audience is an important step. Who will want to watch this movie? What do they like doing and what fascinates them? 5 That can make it more attractive to the target audience. See if you can gather some statistics from any film that is in any way similar to the same genre. From this, you can judge who usually enjoys the genre, and who you can tailor your screenplay to.
All in all, everything that goes into making a film, from costume choices to special effects, is there to reinforce the story. Next time, let’ talk more about the topic.
A.The end involves the issues being solved.
B.Don’t forget to focus on character development.
C.If so, that desire can be ten times stronger in your film
D.In the modern word everything moves at a fast speed.
E.Doing market research will help you better your film’s screenplay.
F.But they have a structure that isn’t too confusing to follow.
G.Making choices about the timing of events can heighten their impact.
【答案】1.F 2.A 3.D 4.C 5.E

Holidays are a time to come together and make memories. 26
“Screens can be a barrier to true connection during the holidays,” says Hansa Bhargava, MD, an Atlanta-based pediatrician and spokesperson for the Center for Excellence in Media and Mental Health at the American Academy of Pediatrics.
To help families stay in the present this holiday season, Bhargava shared her top four tips for setting healthier boundaries for screen use.
● Start with a family conversation. 27 She suggested discussing the importance of spending time together without screens. A simple conversation about why this matters can set the tone for the season.
● Agree on rules and results. Set clear expectations around when and where phones should be put away, such as during meals, family walks, or gift-opening. 28 Establishing these rules before the holidays can make it easier to enforce them later.
● Tailor guidelines by age. Younger children may need stricter boundaries, like handing over their devices during specific times. 29 Making them part of the decision-making process helps prevent power struggles.
● 30 Replace screen time with planned activities like movie nights, baking cookies, or playing board games. One recent study found that preteens who unplug for even a few days improve their ability to read emotional cues by over 30%. Keeping everyone engaged helps make screens less tempting.
A.Be a role model.

If you’re a teenager, starting good money habits now will put you ahead for the rest of your life. 31
Understand the power of time.
32 What matters is time. Let’s look at an example: At the end of your summer job, you have $1,000. You invest it at a rate of 5%. At the end of those 50 years, you will have $11,467.49.
Start a money saving habit.
If you start the habit of saving money now, that habit will always be with you. Every dollar you get, whether it’s a gift, an allowance, or pay from a job, get into the habit of saving a part of it. Half of it would be ideal. 33 The older you get, the harder it can seem to save even 10% of your money.
34
There is so much information available on the Internet. You can find articles that will teach you how to make $100 fast. There are also so many personal finance books to choose from to learn about where to start. You can talk to your parents for advice on money management, too.
Avoid FOMO.
FOMO means a fear of missing out on all the fun. You’ll think everyone is having more fun than you as a teenager. However, it’s important to give up what you want now for what you want most. What you want now is to take the money you made at your summer job and go on Spring Break. 35 But all of that will be true in time.
A.Add up all your bills.
B.It’s time to start now because you don’t have many expenses.
C.Seize chances to get educated.
D.Here are money tips for you.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·陕西商洛·期末)
A leader’s ability to communicate clearly and effectively(高效地) within teams is one of the elements of a successful business. And in today’s complex and quickly changing business environment, effective communication has never been more important. 36 The good news is that communication skills can be learned. These tips can help you master these skills.
Be clear and brief. Communication is mainly about word choice. 37 The key to powerful and persuasive communication—whether written or spoken—is clarity and brevity. Avoid unnecessary words and overly flowery language, which can take attention away from your message.
Be mindful of nonverbal (非口头的) communication. Nonverbal clues can have between 65% and 93% more impact than the spoken words. And we are more likely to believe the nonverbal signals over spoken words if the two are in disagreement. Leaders must be especially good at reading nonverbal clues. 38
Watch your tone. Tone can be an especially important factor in workplace disagreements and conflict. A well-chosen word with a positive connotation (含义) creates good will and trust. 39 By being mindful of your tone, you will be able to change it properly if a communication seems to be going in the wrong direction.
40 Communication nearly always involves two or more individuals. Therefore, listening is just as important as speaking when it comes to communicating successfully. The goal of active listening is to make sure that you hear not just the words the person is saying, but the entire message.
A.Practice active listening
B.Ensure a chance for each individual
C.And the best policy is that less is more

How to Work with Different Cultures
Working effectively with different cultures is a necessary skill for anyone in a culturally diverse work environment. Cultural variations in the workplace may range from simple regional differences, such as varying dialects (方言), to different viewpoints on timeliness, efficiency, and communication. 46
Be aware of your words and actions. What seems proper to you may not be a cultural standard to another person. 47 Is what you’re about to say possibly rude? If so, figure out a way to express it differently. Before you give someone at work a high five or a pat on the back, take a moment to consider your actions. Based on what you know about that culture, is touching in the workplace proper?
Practise patience. It may take a while for you to get used to working with people from different cultures. Don’t worry, that’s normal. Try not to get angry if communication takes a little extra effort at first. For example, maybe you are now working with someone whose first language is not your mother tongue. In this case, they might not understand your point. 48 Try saying, “OK, I can see I’m not making myself clear. How can I help us get on the same page?”
Look at issues from a different angle (角度). Don’t assume that you are all looking at the issue from the same angle. It’s possible that you might think you’re working with the same goals in mind, but others may have different ideas about how to achieve them. 49 Looking at an issue from another point of view can help you find solutions that you might not have considered.

Passage 3
(24-25高一下·陕西榆林·期末)
How to Balance School and Extracurricular Activities
High school life can be busy, but balancing academics and extracurricular activities is possible. Here are some tips:
Plan your schedule wisely.
Use a planner or an app to list daily tasks, including homework, club meetings, and sports practices. Schedule specific times for studying to avoid last-minute rushing. 91 A well-organized schedule ensures tasks are completed on time and reduces last-minute pressure.
Set key issues first.
Not all activities are equally important. Ask yourself: Does this club help my goals? Can I manage the time commitment? 92 And cut those that demand much time without benefits.
93
It’s okay to refuse invitations if you’re too busy. Taking on too much can lead to stress and poor work quality. Remember: quality over quantity. Declining overload protects your efficiency and mental health, even if it means occasional rejections. Your mental health matters.
Use free time efficiently.
Waiting for the bus or between classes? Review notes or read a chapter for class. Avoid spending hours on social media when you have work to do. Making good use of spare moments can gradually lighten your workload and make progress. 94
Take breaks regularly.
95 Even a 10-minute walk can refresh your mind. Overwork can affect both your studies and enjoyment of activities. Regular breaks are essential for improving productivity and balancing study with life’s joys and connections. A balanced life includes time for family, friends, and hobbies.
A.Learn to say no.
B.Don’t forget to rest.
C.Small moments add up!
D.You can ask your parents or teachers for help when in trouble.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·陕西西安·期末)
Generally, most of us rely on forecasts (预报) to tell us what kind of weather to expect. 96 Not only can predicting (预测) the weather be a fun hobby, it can also be a useful skill if you enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking or camping. By learning what to look for, you can predict the weather without a forecast or technological device.
Determine the direction of the wind. Wind direction helps determine upcoming weather. Since weather moves in from the west, westerly winds indicate good weather because they suggest the bad weather is already to your east. Easterly winds suggest that the bad weather is coming toward you. You can use grass or leaves to determine the direction of the wind. 97
Watch smoke from a fire. The air pressure determines what direction the smoke will go. In high pressure, the smoke will go directly up into the air. 98 When smoke circles downwards, it means that bad weather is very close.
99 Before a storm, the low-pressure system can push out the area’s normal wind patterns. This creates a temporary calm before the storm begins. You’ll notice a lack of wind, which creates stillness over the area. If you’re near water, it will be calm and still, as well. This calm indicates a coming storm.
Check for humidity (湿度). High humidity often comes before a storm, so watch for signs of high humidity, such as frizzy hair, curling leaves, and swollen wood. 100 if you live in an area that always has high humidity, rely on other observations to predict the weather.
A.Watch for calm conditions.
B.Keep an eye out for low pressure.
C.These signs can tell you that a storm is on the way.
D.If the pressure is low, it will circle back down around the fire.
E.Current weather forecasts can predict the weather for more than 30 days.
F.Throw your grass or leaves into the wind and watch the way that it blows or falls.
G.However, it is possible to predict the weather using your skills of observation and knowledge.
【答案】96.G 97.F 98.D 99.A 100.C
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,介绍无需天气预报或设备,通过观察预测天气的方法。
96.根据上文“Generally, most of us rely on forecasts to tell us what kind of weather to expect. (通常,我们大多数人依靠预报来了解预期的天气。)”以及下文“Not only can predicting (预测) the weather be a fun hobby, it can also be a useful skill if you enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking or camping. By learning what to look for, you can predict the weather without a forecast or technological device. (预测天气不仅是一种有趣的爱好,如果你喜欢徒步旅行或露营等户外活动,它也会成为一项实用技能。通过学习观察迹象,你无需天气预报或技术设备就能预测天气。)”可知,此空应引出不依赖预报的天气预测方法。G选项“However, it is possible to predict the weather using your skills of observation and knowledge.”(然而,利用观察技能和知识来预测天气是可能的。)与上文为转折关系且引出下文具体预测方法,符合语境。故选G项。
97.根据上文“You can use grass or leaves to determine the direction of the wind. (可以用草或树叶确定风向。)”可知,此空应说明用草或树叶确定风向的具体操作。F选项“Throw your grass or leaves into the wind and watch the way that it blows or falls. (将草或树叶抛向风中,观察其飘动或落下的方式。)”是对上文的具体实施步骤的介绍,符合语境。故选F项。
98.根据上文“In high pressure, the smoke will go directly up into the air. (在高压下,烟会直接升向空中。)”以及下文“When smoke circles downwards, it means that bad weather is very close. (当烟向下盘旋时,意味着恶劣天气即将来临。)”可知,此空应说明低压下烟的走向。D选项“If the pressure is low, it will circle back down around the fire. (如果压力低,烟会绕着火堆向下盘旋。)”中的“If the pressure is low”与上文“In high pressure”形成对比,“circle back down around the fire”对应下文“smoke circles downwards”,符合语境。故选D项。
99.分析语篇可知,此处应为本段的小标题。根据空后的“Before a storm, the low-pressure system can push out the area’s normal wind patterns. This creates a temporary calm before the storm begins. You’ll notice a lack of wind, which creates stillness over the area. If you’re near water, it will be calm and still, as well. This calm indicates a coming storm.

Passage 3
(24-25高一下·陕西渭南·期末)
B.Plan interesting family activities.
C.Children often mirror their parents’ behavior.
D.For teenagers, expect some negotiation (协商).
E.Agree on results ahead of time so there are no surprises.
F.But too often, phones take over and steal the moments that matter most.

Passage 4
(23-24高一下·陕西渭南·期末)

B.Ensure a chance for each individual

Studies have shown that it requires rapid-fire decision-making that activates diverse regions of the brain and increases blood flow. 56 But what truly sets Ping-Pong apart is its openness to all people.
57 Age and physical condition matter little. Instead, individuals of different fitness levels can compete equally in this activity. Whether you’re young or old, tall or short, slim or not-so-slim, everyone has a shot at glory. 58
For another thing, perhaps no sport has lower cost to participate in. If you can’t find a Ping-Pong bat in your storage room, an acceptably good one can be bought for about $20, or a set of four, with net and balls thrown in, for less than $50. 59 In a difficult situation, you don’t even need a table. One of China’s first great players sharpened his skills on the front door of his family’s home, which he would take off the door every morning and replace at the end of the day.

Repetition is an essential part of the learning journey. It is not just a simple mechanical operation but also a challenge and breakthrough of one’s own limits. 86 The following points can provide effective approaches to make repetition powerful.
87
In each repetition, we should reflect critically on what we learned, trying to discover new knowledge from the old knowledge. This way of thinking can help us establish a more solid knowledge system and improve our cognitive ability.
Use multiple forms of repetition.
Learning should not be limited to a single form. Instead, it should fully integrate multiple senses such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 88 This diverse repetition not only improves learning efficiency but also enhances the lastingness of memory.
Extensive Application.
The ultimate goal of learning is application. Only by applying the learned knowledge to the solution to practical problems can we truly understand its connotation (内涵) and value. In the process of application, we can deepen our understanding of knowledge points. 89
Learning is a lifelong journey. 90 Extreme repetition and never-ending persistence makes us keep progressing.

93
It’s okay to refuse invitations if you’re too busy. Taking on too much can lead to stress and poor work quality. Remember: quality over quantity. Declining overload protects your efficiency and mental health, even if it means occasional rejections. Your mental health matters.

Waiting for the bus or between classes? Review notes or read a chapter for class. Avoid spending hours on social media when you have work to do. Making good use of spare moments can gradually lighten your workload and make progress. 94
Take breaks regularly.
