Immersing (沉浸) oneself in the green field of grass, or the shade of a forested trail can be truly calming and healing. Recently, researchers from the University of Exeter and the University of Vienna have published a study in Nature Communications that showed that not only does being in nature help reduce pain, but looking at nature could have a similar effect. The study showed that people who viewed images of nature experienced less pain than those who saw images of a city or an indoor office. In addition, scans of the participants’ brains also showed changes in brain responses associated with processing pain. This means that seeing nature has an effect on pain, just like being in nature does. This is welcome news for people who do not live near green spaces. However, a few months later, the researchers published another study, this time in Pain, showing that scenes of nature in virtual reality had more pain-killing power than 2D scenes. In order to test how virtual reality affects the sensation of pain, the researchers set up an experiment with 29 healthy participants, who were shown two different types of nature scenes, one in virtual reality and the other in 2D, after pain was delivered to their forearms via electric shocks. The researchers found that the immersive virtual reality scenes mitigated the development and feeling of pain in the participants. In fact, the virtual reality was almost two times as effective as the 2D scenes were. There are many implications of these studies, especially concerning how people perceive and experience pain. However, more importantly, there are also potential practical implications of the studies. Though getting out into nature can be helpful in terms of treating pain, there are many people in the world who suffer from long-term pain and are unable to go into nature. 8. What did the two universities’ study find about looking at natural scenes? A. It intensifies the sense of pain. B. It changes the structure of the brain. C. It makes people feel bored with cities. D. It works like real nature in easing pain. 9. Why are the participants’ brains scanned? A. To improve the brain’s ability of pain processing. B. To measure the brain’s responses to different images. C. To compare the brain structures of different people. D. To locate the brain areas responsible for viewing nature. 10. What does the underlined word “mitigated” in paragraph 6 probably mean? A. Caused. B. Sharpened. C. Reduced. D. Reflected. 11. What will doctors probably do to help patients with limited mobility? A. Bring nature to them. B. Provide them with recovery training. C. Give pain killers to them. D. Show them various forms of entertainment. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段中的“Recently, researchers from the University of Exeter and the University of Vienna have published a study in Nature Communications that showed that not only does being in nature help reduce pain, but looking at nature could have a similar effect.(最近,埃克塞特大学和维也纳大学的研究人员在《自然·通讯》上发表了一项研究,该研究表明,置身大自然不仅有助于减轻疼痛,观看自然景象也可能产生类似的效果。)” 根据第三段中的“The study showed that people who viewed images of nature experienced less pain than those who saw images of a city or an indoor office. In addition, scans of the participants’ brains also showed changes in brain responses associated with processing pain. (该研究显示,观看自然景象图片的人比观看城市或室内办公室图片的人感受到的疼痛更少。此外,对参与者大脑的扫描也显示出与疼痛处理相关的大脑反应发生了变化。)”可知,对参与者进行脑部扫描是为了为了测量大脑对不同图片的反应。故选B项。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第六段中的“The researchers found that the immersive virtual reality scenes mitigated the development and feeling of pain in the participants. In fact, the virtual reality was almost two times as effective as the 2D scenes were.(研究人员发现,沉浸式虚拟现实场景mitigated参与者疼痛的产生和感受。事实上,虚拟现实的效果几乎是二维场景的两倍。)”可知,虚拟现实场景的镇痛效果优于二维场景,由此推测“mitigated”的意思是“减轻、缓解”,与“reduced”含义相近。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“Though getting out into nature can be helpful in terms of treating pain, there are many people in the world who suffer from long-term pain and are unable to go into nature. (虽然走进大自然有助于治疗疼痛,但世界上有许多长期遭受疼痛折磨的人无法走进大自然。)”以及前文提及虚拟现实自然场景和二维自然场景的镇痛效果可知,对于行动不便的患者,医生可能会通过为他们呈现自然相关的景象(比如虚拟现实自然场景)来帮助缓解疼痛,也就是将“自然”带到他们身边。故选A项。 D A Japanese city is using AI (人工智能) to help with the problem of kids not wanting to go to school. They look at students’ information to see who might stop coming because of worries, being bullied (欺凌), or other problems. In a city near Tokyo, they tested an Al system for a year. They wanted to help teachers find students who are having a hard time. In Japan, more and more kids are not going to school for a long time. In 2022, almost 300,000 kids didn’t go to school for 30 days or more. The AI system looks at things like how often kids go to school, how well they do in school, and if they are healthy. It also looks at if they visit the school nurse a lot or if there are reports about them being bullied. The system then uses past data (数据) to see how likely it is that a student will stop going to school. It gives each student a color, from red (highest risk) to yellow (lowest risk). In the test, the program said 1,193 students were at high risk. Teachers decided that 265 of them needed help right away. To keep kids’ information safe, the city made rules about how to use the data and not to treat students unfairly because of the AI’s predictions (预测). They also told parents they could say no to using their kids’ data. Only important people in the school, like headmasters, could see the results. “By using real information, we might be able to stop kids from not wanting to go to school,” said Makiko Nakamuro, a professor from Keio University and an expert on education. “But we have to think really hard about keeping their data safe by telling them clearly why and how we use their information,” she also said. 12. What is the main purpose of using AI in the Japanese city? A. To improve students’ scores. B. To study students’ health conditions. C. To make bullying problems happen less in schools. D. To find students at risk of not attending school. 13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. The job of school nurses. B. How the AI system checks kids’ health. C. The main focus of the AI system. D. Why students need better education. 14. How did the city protect students’ information? A. Make strict rules about data using. B. Hide all the data after testing. C. Give up using their real information. D. Send the result only to their parents. 15. What is Makiko Nakamuro’s attitude towards the AI system? A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Anxious. D. Confused. D 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段“A Japanese city is using AI (人工智能) to help with the problem of kids not wanting to go to school. They look at students’ information to see who might stop coming because of worries, being bullied (欺凌), or other problems.(日本一座城市正在使用人工智能来帮助解决孩子们不想上学的问题。他们查看学生的信息,看看谁可能会因为担心、被欺负或其他问题而停止来上学)”可知,日本城市使用人工智能的主要目的是为了帮助解决孩子们不想上学的问题,发现有失学风险的学生。故选D。 【13题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“The AI system looks at things like how often kids go to school, how well they do in school, and if they are healthy. It also looks at if they visit the school nurse a lot or if there are reports about them being bullied.(人工智能系统着眼于孩子们上学的频率、他们在学校的表现以及他们是否健康。它还会查看他们是否经常去学校护士那里,或者是否有关于他们被欺负的报道)”可知,第三段详细介绍了AI系统分析的数据类型,包括学生的出勤率、学业成绩、健康状况、访问校医的频率以及是否有被欺凌的报告。由此可知,第三段主要介绍了人工智能系统关注哪些信息。故选C。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第六段的“To keep kids’ information safe, the city made rules about how to use the data and not to treat students unfairly because of the AI’s predictions (预测).(为了保护孩子们的信息安全,该市制定了关于如何使用数据的规则,并确保不会因为AI的预测而对学生不公平对待)”可知,该市通过制定严格的数据使用规则来保护学生信息。故选A。 根据最后一段的““By using real information, we might be able to stop kids from not wanting to go to school,” said Makiko Nakamuro, a professor from Keio University and an expert on education.(“通过使用真实信息,我们或许能够阻止孩子们不愿意上学的问题,”来自庆应义塾大学的教育专家Makiko Nakamuro教授说道)”可知,Makiko Nakamuro认为通过使用真实的信息,我们可能能够阻止孩子们不想上学,由此可推知,Makiko Nakamuro对人工智能系统的态度是支持的。 Whether you want to start a vegetable garden or make your garden bigger, you have choices to make. The first decision concerns just how you’ll set up your garden. ____16____. To help you start planning your garden, let’s look at some techniques for growing vegetables in any size space. ____17____ Planting diroctly in the ground is a traditional way. First, you remove grass and weeds. Then, you mix compost (堆肥) into the soil to help plants grow. This method is cheap and needs less watering. But it takes more work to maintain. Weeds grow quickly, and animals like rabbits can eat the plants. Also, the soil takes longer to warm up in spring. Raised bed gardening Raised beds are boxes filled with soil. They warm up faster in spring and have fewer weeds, allowing for extra-early planting. You can plant more vegetables in a small space, and the soil stays soft because you don’t step on it. However, building raised beds is costly. ____18____. Straw bale (稻草捆) gardening In this method, plants grow in straw bales. ____19____. Perfect for growing vegetables and flowers that live only one year, bales can be placed in a driveway, yard, or any small place that gets lots of sun. Container (容器) gardening ____20____. The advantage of this method is that it turns any sunny space into a place to grow food. On the downside, there is an initial cost of containers (depending on the types of containers you choose). Plus containers dry out quicker than garden beds in the hot summer sun. You have to pay very close attention to watering. A. Starting your personal gardening B. The in-ground vegetable gardening C. It is quick to set up and works well in small spaces D. And the right choice depends on your space, time and goals E. For many people, it sounds difficult to find some proper containers F. To save money, you can use wood or stones to create free-formed beds G. The easiest way to start food gardening is to use planters and other containers 【答案】16. D 17. B 18. F 19. C 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Whether you want to start a vegetable garden or make your garden bigger, you have choices to make. The first decision concerns just how you’ll set up your garden.(无论你是想开辟一个蔬菜园,还是想把现有的菜园扩大,你都需要做出一些选择。首要的决定与你将如何规划你的菜园有关。)”可知,上文提到要建立花园首先要做决定,即如何建立花园。选项D“And the right choice depends on your space, time and goals(而正确的选择取决于你的空间、时间和目标。)” 根据下文“Planting directly in the ground is a traditional way. First, you remove grass and weeds. Then, you mix compost (堆肥) into the soil to help plants grow. This method is cheap and needs less watering. But it takes more work to maintain. Weeds grow quickly, and animals like rabbits can eat the plants. Also, the soil takes longer to warm up in spring.(直接在地里种植是一种传统的方式。 【18题详解】 根据上文“Raised beds are boxes filled with soil. They warm up faster in spring and have fewer weeds, allowing for extra-early planting. You can plant more vegetables in a small space, and the soil stays soft because you don’t step on it. However, building raised beds is costly.(抬高式苗床是装满土壤的箱体。它们在春天升温更快,杂草也更少,这使得提前种植成为可能。你可以在一个小空间里种植更多的蔬菜,而且由于你不会踩踏土壤,所以土壤能保持松软。然而,建造抬高式苗床的成本较高。)”可知,本段讲的是抬高式苗床园艺,前文提到建造抬高式苗床成本高。选项F“To save money, you can use wood or stones to create free-formed beds(为了节省开支,你可以使用木材或石头来制作不规则形状的苗床。)” 【19题详解】 根据小标题“Straw bale (稻草捆) gardening(稻草捆园艺)”和上文“In this method, plants grow in straw bales.(在这种方法中,植物生长在稻草捆里。)” C“It is quick to set up and works well in small spaces(它搭建起来很快,而且在小空间里效果很好。)”符合稻草捆园艺的特点,与前文“plants grow in straw bales(植物生长在稻草捆里)”以及下文“Perfect for growing vegetables and flowers that live only one year, bales can be placed in a driveway, yard, or any small place that gets lots of sun.(稻草捆非常适合种植一年生的蔬菜和花卉,可以放置在车道、院子或任何能获得充足阳光的小地方。)” G“The easiest way to start food gardening is to use planters and other containers(开始种植食用植物最简单的方法是使用花盆和其他容器。)”符合这一段的主题,引出下文对容器园艺优缺点“The advantage of this method is that it turns any sunny space into a place to grow food. On the downside, there is an initial cost of containers (depending on the types of containers you choose). Plus containers dry out quicker than garden beds in the hot summer sun. For two years, I’ve taken the weekly two-hour bus ride to visit my parents in the countryside. In the past, its clear waters sparkled like diamonds under the sun, and the gentle rustling of the leaves along the banks created a pleasant tune. Colorful fish and frogs made it their home, and kids in the neighborhood would spend hours by the water, playing with their friends or observing the wonders of nature. However, over time, the pond became dirtier and dustier. Empty plastic bottles, fast-food wrappers, and even old bicycles were carelessly thrown into the water. The once-clear waters turned dark, and a strange smell began to hang over the area, driving away the wildlife. One sunny afternoon, I took a walk around the pond and was shocked by its sorry state. Determined to do something about it, I took out my phone and started taking pictures from every angle. Each image recorded the extent of the pollution, serving as a reminder of the urgent need for action. After getting home, I sat down and crafted a detailed plan. I estimated that we would need at least fifteen volunteers to cover all areas of the pond. I made a list of necessary tools, such as long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins. Then, I spent hours designing posters with pictures of the polluted pond and the words “Let’s Bring Back Our Shining Pond.” My mother even suggested that I publish a post on the net! I first shared my plan with my closest friends. We met at a nearby playground, and as I showed them the pictures, they were horrified. “I can’t believe it has become like this,” shouted Jack. “We used to have so much fun here,” added Emily, and her voice was filled with sadness. I then presented my plan, and without hesitation, they all agreed to help. Finally, we made next Sunday the cleaning day and spread the news to more kids in our community. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Several days later, I received an invitation from our community committee. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】(One possible version) Finally, we made next Sunday the cleaning day and spread the news to more kids in our community. Equipped with long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins, we gathered around the pond. Everyone was full of energy, ready to take on the challenge. We carefully scooped up rubbish from the water surface, while others collected litter on the banks. As we worked, a sense of unity and purpose filled the air. After hours of hard work, the pond was transformed. The water started to regain its clarity, and the bad smell disappeared. Seeing our work, we felt a great sense of achievement, knowing that we had made a real difference to our community. Several days later, I received an invitation from our community committee. In the invitation was a sentence, saying “You have been elected the Environmental Protection Guardian of our community and will be invited to make a short speech in the Award Ceremony next week.” I was so pleased that I shared the good news with my mother. “I’m proud of you, my child,” she said with tears. C For many people, spending time in nature can be a relaxing, enjoyable experience. D A Japanese city is using AI (人工智能) to help with the problem of kids not wanting to go to school. A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Anxious. D. Confused. Whether you want to start a vegetable garden or make your garden bigger, you have choices to make. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
