Greet the class.
Teacher:Good morning/afternoon,class! How are you (doing) today?
Ask several students to respond.

Homework check.Ask several students to introduce one of his/ her friends or teachers.
Procedure
Step1.Match the pictures with the school subjects. Add more to the list.
(1) Show the pictures of different subjects and have the students review the meaning of subject.
(2) Ask the students to look at the pictures and guess the subjects.
Teacher: What subject are you taking now? Paste the pictures on the board and write the corresponding word next to them.
(3) Have the students read these words after the teacher.
(4) Ask the students what other subjects they know. Have them complete Activity 1.
Teacher: Do you know any other subject? What is it?
Step2 Read the email and complete the passage.
(1) Show a Canadian class timetable and ask the students to answer the questions.
Teacher: Look! Here's Jenny's class timetable. How many subjects does Jenny have? What are they?
Write social studies and shop on the board. Explain what these subjects are. What do students do/learn in these two classes? Make sure the students understand the meaning of these words.
(2) Instruct the students to read the email and find Jenny's favourite subjects.
Teacher: What are Jenny's favourite subjects? Why does she like them?
(3) Ask the students to study the features of an email,including its format,content,and usage. Answer key: Jenny;school days; PE; Chinese
Step3. Complete the timetable and talk with your partner.
(1)Talk about different school subjects and have the students discuss their favourite subjects.
Teacher: Now, let's talk about your school days. What subjects do you have this term/ semester?
(2) Instruct the students to work in pairs to complete the timetable in Activity 3. Ask the students to use their completed timetable to make up a conversation. For example:
Student A: What's your favourite subject?
Student B:My favourite subject is...
Student A: Why do you like it?
Student B: It is interesting/fun/helpful/easy.
Student A: Which school day do you like best? Why?
Student B: I like...best because...
Step4. Complete the email to Jenny about your school days.
(1) Have the students complete Activity 4 individually and check the answers in groups.
(2) Ask several students to share their emails with the class. Remind the students to pay attention to writing standards for developing good writing habits. The first letter should be capitalized.
Extension
Play Think Ahead.
(1) In small groups or pairs, the students write eight different school subjects on separate slips of paper.
(2) Instruct the students to place all the slips of paper facing down in a pile.
(3) Player 1 picks up a slip of paper and puts it on his or her forehead with the word (school subject) facing the other players. Player 1 tries to guess the school subject by asking others questions.

1. How are you doing?你好吗?/最近怎么样?
"How is/are...going?"意为"......怎么样?"也可以直接说"How is...?"。例如: How is everything going?最近一切都还好吗?

(1)enjoy意为"享受,喜欢,欣赏".例如:
