Section B 3a- 3c The Old Man and the Sea It was written by an American writer—Ernest Hemingway ['ə:nist] ['hemiŋwei] An old fisherman named Santiago has caught no fish for 84 days. On the 85th day, he sails far into the sea and gets a huge big fish. He fights hard with the big fish for three days and finally wins. Unluckily, lots of sharks come and eat most of the fish on his way home. He only takes back its bones in the end. But he never loses heart. It won the Pulitze Prize in 1953. This book tells us we should be brave and never give up when we meet trouble. ['pulitsə] A. basic information about the book (e.g. book title and writer) B. lessons from the book C. the student’s recommendation D. how popular the book is E. the story of the book The first part is base v.n recommend v. My favourite book is The Old Man and the Sea. It was written in 1952 by the American writer Ernest Hemingway. The book became popular very quickly. In 1953, it won the Pulitzer Prize. A D What detailed information does each part provide? The main character is a fisherman who hasn’t caught anything for months. One day he catches a huge fish, but he has to fight for days to kill it. He finally succeeds, but he can’t pull the fish onto his boat. When the fisherman is on his way back, sharks eat the fish, leaving nothing but bones. E □ This book has taught me not to give up or doubt myself. I’m inspired by how hard the fisherman fights, even though he loses the fish in the end. As Hemingway said, “Man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” □ Even though I’ve already read the book three times, I’m not tired of it yet. If you’ve never read Ernest Hemingway, I recommend this book. B C How does the writer introduce each part? was written became popular won who hasn’t caught anything for months has taught am inspired ... □ This book has taught me not to give up or doubt myself. Beginning (para.1) Among the books I’ve read, I love Journey to the West the best. Recently, I’ve finished Journey to the West. Let me say something about it. When it comes to classic novels, the first thing that comes to my mind is Journey to the West. If you enjoy fantasy novels, don’t miss it. If you enjoy fantasy novels, why not try it? If you are looking for a book to read, I highly suggest giving this one a try. As the saying goes, “A good book is like a good friend, the same today and forever. I’d like you to try it. Ending (para.3) Sample Reading is a lifelong journey. Among all the books that I have read, Journey to the West is my favorite. Written by Wu Cheng’en in the Ming Dynasty, Journey to the West is one of China’s “Four Great Classic Novels”. The story is about Tang Sanzang and his three followers—Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing. On their way to the west, they meet many dangerous monsters and face countless challenges, but they never give up. Finally, they succeed. As the saying goes, “A good book is like a good friend, the same today and forever.” This book teaches me to face challenges more positively in my own life.
