根据第一方框中“Winner of the National Book Award, the Coretta Scott King Award, and a Newbery Honor Book.(本书荣获国家图书奖、科雷塔・斯科特・金奖以及纽伯瑞荣誉图书奖。)” 故选A项。 根据第二方框中“Cleo’s story of sadness surrounding a lost friendship will be relevant to many pupils trying to deal with past middle school friend drama and looking forward to high school.(克莱奥关于失去友谊的伤感经历,会让许多曾遭遇朋友矛盾、迎接高中生活的学生产生共鸣。)” 根据第四方框中“It’s an adventure story set in an epic fantasy world.(这是一个发生在宏大奇幻世界中的冒险故事。)” B If you think backyard and roof-top beehives (蜂箱) are helping save the bees, think again, experts say. A recent study conducted in Montreal found that places with the largest increase in honeybees kept by humans had the fewest wild bee species—with small bees, which are only able to fly shorter distances to find food, appearing to be especially at risk. “The honeybee has been promoted as the symbol of helping the environment and the variety of living species on the earth, and really it’s not that,” says Gail MacInnis, a researcher at Concordia University. “You would never start keeping chickens to help save wild bird species.” “Honeybees are among the most common insects in the world, but they aren’t native to many of the places where they are found,” says Sheila Colla, a professor at York University. “Honeybees are very successful invaders (入侵者),” Colla says. These bees can fly long distances and are able to effectively communicate with one another through dance language. Introducing honeybee hives to an area can be a problem for local wild bees, which often end up competing for the same food sources. Should we stop keeping bees in the cities then? Colla gives us an answer in some way. “There is room for it in cities. It’s just right now we’re not managing it very responsibly in certain places,” she says. It is suggested that cities and towns that allow beekeeping should have caps on the number of hives and require people to register their bee hives. Beekeepers also need to understand the responsibility they’re taking on. 4. Why does Gail MacInnis mention “keeping chickens”? A. To introduce a new topic. B. To show how to save wild birds. C. To make her idea easily understood. D. To share chicken-keeping knowledge. 5. What is the problem for the local wild bees when honeybee hives are introduced? A. Competition for food. B. Risk of being killed. C. Less communication. D. No habitat. 6. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. Saving the honeybees. B. Building hives in cities. C. Making room for honeybees. D. Keeping honeybees responsibly. C 5. A 6. 根据第二段“A recent study conducted in Montreal found that places with the largest increase in honeybees kept by humans had the fewest wild bee species—with small bees, which are only able to fly shorter distances to find food, appearing to be especially at risk. (最近在蒙特利尔进行的一项研究发现,人类饲养的蜜蜂数量增加最多的地方,野生蜜蜂种类却最少——小型蜜蜂只能飞很短的距离去寻找食物,似乎特别危险。)”和第三段““The honeybee has been promoted as the symbol of helping the environment and the variety of living species on the earth, and really it’s not that,” says Gail MacInnis, a researcher at Concordia University. “You would never start keeping chickens to help save wild bird species. (康考迪亚大学的研究人员盖尔·麦金尼斯说:“蜜蜂一直被宣传为保护环境和地球上生物多样性的象征,实际上并非如此。”“你永远不会为了拯救野生鸟类而开始养鸡。”)”可知Gail MacInnis是在说明人类饲养的蜜蜂并不会让野生蜜蜂数量变多,由此推断Gail MacInnis提到养鸡是为了使她的想法易于理解。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Introducing honeybee hives to an area can be a problem for local wild bees, which often end up competing for the same food sources. (将蜂箱引入一个地区对当地的野生蜜蜂来说可能是一个问题,它们通常会争夺相同的食物来源。)”可知当引进蜂箱后,本地野蜂会遇到争夺食物的问题,故选A。 【6题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Should we stop keeping bees in the cities then? Colla gives us an answer in some way. “There is room for it in cities. It’s just right now we’re not managing it very responsibly in certain places,” she says. It is suggested that cities and towns that allow beekeeping should have caps on the number of hives and require people to register their bee hives. Beekeepers also need to understand the responsibility they’re taking on. (那么我们应该停止在城市里养蜜蜂吗?科拉在某种程度上给了我们一个答案。“城市里有它的空间。只是现在我们在某些地方的管理不够负责任。”她说。有人建议,允许养蜂的城镇应该对蜂箱数量设定上限,并要求人们对蜂箱进行登记。养蜂人也需要了解他们所承担的责任。)”可知,本段主要讲述可以在城市里养蜂,但是要负责任,故选D。 C I always saw myself as an honest person. The only time I’d ever lied was to protect someone’s feelings. But that wasn’t really lying. I would tell myself that it was an act of kindness! And then I had a therapy (治疗) period, when I realized that all of this was actually people-pleasing behaviour. Not only that, but according to my therapist, by continuously hiding my true feelings to protect those I loved, I was stopping them from ever getting to know the real me. I knew something had to change. So, from that moment, I promised I would never tell another lie again. It was particularly hard at the start. It would take me hours to reply to a “do you like a coffee?” text when my answer was “no”. But gradually, I realized it was not impossible. Because more often than not, I’d tell the truth when I have to stop the appointment (约定) with friends, but instead of being disappointed, they would reply, “Oh, I’m delighted that you tell the truth.” If there is any difference, by telling the truth, I was becoming closer to those I really connected with, and gently letting go of those I didn’t. Some did struggle at first because they weren’t used to my honesty. But slowly, people began to express their gratitude for my newfound honesty. I’ll never forget the first time a friend thanked me for it: “I feel so safe in our friendship because I know if I’ve upset you, you’ll just tell me!” It’s why I’m fully committed to maintaining honesty. I have no idea where it will take me, but at least I’ll always be living a life of total authenticity. My experience inspired me to write a children’s novel about a girl who couldn’t lie. I’ve dedicated (把……献给) it to my younger self, and I hope it also encourages a new generation to do what I’ve only just learned: to tell the truth. 7. The author decided to stop lying when ______. A. she received a treatment B. she became a therapist C. she made her friends happy D. she wanted to protect someone’s feelings 8. What made the author believe it is possible to tell the truth? A. Her friends’ supportive responses. B. Her unique way to tell the truth. C. Her therapist’s encouragement. D. Her trust in her friends. 9. What does the underlined word “authenticity” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Creativity. B. Humor. C. Truth. D. Greatness. 10. What does the author want the new generation to do in the last paragraph? A. Be honest people. B. Avoid unnecessary conversations. C. Write books to encourage children to be happy. D. Keep a balance between telling lies and the truth. 【答案】7. A 8. A 9. C 10. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。作者过去为了取悦他人而说谎,然后通过心理治疗认识到这种行为带来的问题。现在,作者决定不再为取悦他人而说谎,并从中领悟到说真话的重要性。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“And then I had a therapy (治疗) period, when I realized that all of this was actually people-pleasing behaviour. (然后我进行了一段治疗期,我意识到这一切实际上都是取悦他人的行为)”以及“So, from that moment, I promised I would never tell another lie again.( 所以,从那一刻起,我保证再也不会说谎了)”可知,当作者接受治疗,作者决定停止说谎。故选A。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Because more often than not, I’d tell the truth when I have to stop the appointment (约定) with friends, but instead of being disappointed, they would reply, “Oh, I’m delighted that you tell the truth.”(因为很多时候,当我不得不停止与朋友的约会时,我会说实话,但他们不会失望,而是会回答:“哦,我很高兴你说了实话。”)”可知,当作者出真心话时,朋友们并没有对作者失望,反而对作者能说实话表示高兴。因此,她的朋友们给予了支持,让作者相信说实话是可能的。故选A。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章第四段“It’s why I’m fully committed to maintaining honesty. I have no idea where it will take me, (这就是为什么我完全致力于保持诚实。我不知道它会把我带到哪里)”可知,作者完全致力于保持诚实,虽然不知道这将带自己去哪里,但至少作者相信自己将一直过着完全真实的生活。第四段中带下划线的单词的意思“真相,真实”,与Truth意义相近。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第五段“and I hope it also encourages a new generation to do what I’ve only just learned: to tell the truth. (并且我希望这也能鼓励新一代做我刚刚学到的事情:说实话)”可知,作者希望年轻的一代说实话,也做诚实的人。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Unexpected Benefits of Volunteering as a Family Are you looking for a way to bring your family together? They nipped (掐) flowers with their fingers and dropped them into a basket. Then the girls sat under a mango tree and knotted the flowers into garlands. Shanti could already picture herself holding that doll, imagining the joy of owning it. “If we sell enough, we can each buy one,” she said with a smile. But Jodi shook her head. She explained that her family was struggling financially that week, and instead of using her earnings for a doll, she would buy medicine for her sick little brother, Kiran. She then picked up her garlands. “My mother is expecting me. I’ll meet you at the market.” Later, Shanti spent the afternoon selling her garlands while waiting for Jodi. By evening, Shanti had sold all of hers, but there was still no sign of her friend. Just as Shanti was heading home, she spotted Jodi coming to the market with her garlands, looking exhausted. Jodi explained that she had been taking care of Kiran while her mother was at work, and that’s why she was late. Shanti’s heart sank as she realized her friend wouldn’t be able to make enough money for the medicine in time. She looked at the small amount of money she had earned, which had been meant for the doll she had dreamed of for so long. In that moment, the desire for the doll seemed so insignificant. C I always saw myself as an honest person. 9. Without a second thought, she handed Jodi the money. “Keep this for Kiran’s medicine,” Shanti said softly.
