1.第二段明确指出:“Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it's also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time.”,直接说明如果对所学内容感兴趣,我们的大脑会更加活跃。
2.第三段以贝尔发明电话为例,说明他并非一夜之间取得成功,而是通过“trying many times and learning from his mistakes”才最终实现目标,这正体现了“Practice makes perfect.”的道理。
3.第四段的主题是“发展学习技能”,空前提到“只努力学习是不够的”,空后列举了记关键词、画思维导图等具体学习方法。C项“Good learners know good methods.”
Do you find it difficult to remember English words? Do you forget them in just a few minutes? In fact, with the right methods, you can learn words more efficiently and easily. Here are three useful rules to help you.
First, learn new words through stories. When you read short stories, articles, or conversations, you can see words in real contexts. You will not only know their meanings but also understand how to use them in sentences. Words in stories are more interesting and lively, so you can remember them longer and better than by just memorizing a word list. Stories also create pictures in your mind, which makes the words stay with you for a longer time.
Second, remember the words you use most often first. You don’t need to learn all new words at once. In fact, trying to learn too many words at the same time may only make you confused (困惑的). You should start with common daily words, such as those about school, family, food, and hobbies. These are the words you are most likely to meet in real life. The more you use these words in speaking and writing, the more firmly you will remember them.
Third, connect new words with your old knowledge. When you learn a new word, think of its related words. For example, when you learn “doctor”, you can think of “nurse”, “hospital”, and “patient”. ▲ Doing this helps you build a word network in your mind and makes your memory much stronger.

【导语】本文介绍了三种记忆英语单词的方法:通过故事学习、优先记忆常用词、将新词与旧知识联系起来。
1.第一段以两个问句“Do you find it difficult...? Do you forget them...?”开头,引出话题。
2.第三段中“the more firmly you will remember them”意为“越牢固地记住它们”,因此“firmly”意为“牢固地”,与“deeply”意思最接近。
3.最后一段介绍了将新词与旧知识联系的方法,并举例“learn ‘doctor’, you can think of ‘nurse’, ‘hospital’, and ‘patient’”,因此空缺处应填“你也可以用已经学过的单词造句”。
4.文章结构为:第一段引出话题,第二、三、四段分别介绍三种方法,符合“①/②③④”的结构。
5.本文介绍了记忆单词的方法,属于学习方法类内容,最可能出现在“Good Learners”版块。
“How are you?” is a nice question. It’s a friendly way that people in the USA greet (问候) each other. But “How are you?” is also a very unusual question. It’s a question that often doesn’t need an answer. The person who asks “How are you?” hopes to hear the answer “Fine”, even if the person’s friend isn’t fine. The reason is that “How are you?” isn’t really a question and “Fine” isn’t really an answer. They are simply other ways of saying “Hello” or “Hi”.
Sometimes, people also don’t say exactly what they mean. For example, when someone asks “Do you agree?”, the other person might think, “No, I disagree. I think you’re wrong...” But it isn’t very polite to disagree so strongly, so the other person might say “I’m not sure.” It’s a nicer way to say that you don’t agree with someone.
People also don’t say exactly what they are thinking when they finish talking with other people. For example, many talks over the phone finish when one person says “I’ve to go now.” Often, the person who wants to hang up gives an excuse: “Someone’s at the door.” The excuses might be real, or not. Perhaps the person who wants to hang up simply doesn’t want to talk any more, but it isn’t polite to say that. The excuse is more polite, and it doesn’t hurt the other person.
Whether they are greeting each other, talking about an idea, or finishing a talk, people don’t say exactly what they are thinking. It’s an important way that people try to be nice to each other, and it’s part of the game of language.
1.When a person in America asks “How are you?”, he or she wants to hear “________”.
A.I don’t know. B.Fine. C.How are you? D.Hello.
2.When a person disagrees with someone, it is polite to say “________”.
A.I’m not sure. B.You are wrong. I disagree.
C.I’m sure I disagree. D.No, I disagree.
3.A polite way to finish a talk is to say “________”.
A.You have to go now. B.I want to hang up.
C.I have to go now. D.I don’t want to talk any more.
4.When a person says “I’ve to go now. Someone’s at the door.” the person may be ________.
A.hurting someone’s feelings B.giving an excuse
C.ill D.asking you a question
5.The rule of the game of language is probably ________.
A.“Don’t disagree with people.” B.“Always say what you mean”
C.“Never say exactly what you’re thinking.” D.“Be polite.”
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.B 5.D

2.第二段原文:“it isn’t very polite to disagree so strongly, so the other person might say ‘I’m not sure.’”,所以I’m not sure.是礼貌的方式。
3.第三段原文:“many talks over the phone finish when one person says ‘I’ve to go now.’”,所以I have to go now.是礼貌的方式。
4.第三段原文:“Often, the person who wants to hang up gives an excuse: ‘Someone’s at the door.’”。这是在给出一个委婉 “借口”。
5.第四段原文:“It’s an important way that people try to be nice to each other,” 全文都在强调人际交往中“保持礼貌”的核心。
①The Chinese language differs from Western languages in that, instead of an alphabet (字母表), it uses characters (文字) which stand for ideas, objects or deeds. Chinese words are formed by putting together different characters. In many cases, a single character can also make up a word. As one kind of the most ancient characters, Chinese characters have played an important role in the development of Chinese culture.
②Chinese writing began thousands of years ago. According to an ancient story, a man named Cang Jie invented Chinese writing. One winter day while he was hunting, he saw the footprints of animals in the snow and noticed that the appearance of each one was different. Then he had the idea that he could use different shapes to represent different objects. The first Chinese characters were drawings of physical objects. Some characters have been simplified (简化) and others have been made more difficult over time.
③Not all characters were developed from drawings of objects. However, as a whole, the characters have developed from drawings into standard forms. The character for a mountain was at first three mountaintops together. This became one mountaintop and three lines, and over time turned into the character used nowadays.
④Sometimes to express ideas, some characters were made by combining two or more characters together. For example, “休” was made up of the characters for a man and a tree. The character “囚” was formed with a “man” inside a square. Other characters were developed for directions and numbers. It is easy to distinguish (区别) their meanings by looking at them, for example, the characters for “up” and “down”, which are opposites of each other.
⑤Though these kinds of characters indicate (表明) meanings, one of their shortcomings is that they do not show how they should be pronounced. Therefore, a method was developed to have one part of a character stand for the meaning and the other suggest the pronunciation (读音,发音). Many Chinese characters used today were made this way.
⑥In the 1950s, the Chinese government introduced simplified Chinese characters in the hope to make learning to read and write more understandable to the general population, which would increase literacy (读写能力) across the country. And now they have widespread use in China.
1.The earliest Chinese characters were mainly based on ________.
A.animal sounds B.simplified shapes C.drawings of objects D.math symbols
2.The writer introduces the Chinese characters by ________ in Paragraph 4.
A.giving examples B.providing causes C.expressing opinions D.comparing facts
3.Which Chinese character is formed using the method described in the underlined sentence?
A.亦 B.竹 C.明 D.桐
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Chinese characters have turned into standard forms, all of which are easier than before.
B.Chinese characters we use today have been accepted by large numbers of people.
C.Chinese characters existed at the very beginning and remain today like other ancient symbols.
D.Chinese words and English words are both formed by putting alphabets and characters together.
5.In which part of a newspaper can we probably find the passage?
A.Entertainment. B.Culture. C.Nature. D.Review.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.B

3.文中划线句提到“one part of a character stand for the meaning and the other suggest the pronunciation”,即形声字的造字方法,形旁表意、声旁表音。选项D“桐”的形旁“木”表意,声旁“同”表音,符合该方法。
4.文中第⑥段提到“now they have widespread use in China”,说明我们现在使用的汉字已被广大民众接受和使用。
5.全文围绕汉字的起源、发展与文化意义展开,属于文化类话题,因此最可能出现在报纸的文化版块。

Long before English even existed, around 500 BCE, the people living in Britain spoke Celtic languages. Then, in 43 CE, the Romans arrived and took control of most of the island. They brought Latin with them, which left its mark on the land, though it didn’t become the everyday language for most locals.
The big turning point came in the 5th century CE. After the Romans left, the Anglo-Saxons from northern Europe settled in Britain. Their language became the basis of Old English, the first version of what we now call English. Later, in 793, the Vikings from Scandinavia began raiding Britain’s coasts. They set up their own kingdoms and many Norse words were added to the language, mixing it with Old English.
In 1066, another huge change happened: the Normans from France conquered England. They brought their own French, which became the language of the government and the rich.
While common people kept speaking Old English, the two languages mixed together over time. The grammar and vocabulary shifted a lot, and slowly, Old English turned into Middle English.
By the late Middle Ages, between 1400 and 1600, the language started to look more like the English we know today. Spelling and pronunciation changed a great deal, and by the time William Shakespeare wrote his famous plays, the language was already very different from Middle English.
Finally, starting in the 1800s, the Industrial Revolution changed everything. The British began trading all over the world, and English spread to every corner of the globe. What started as a language of small groups in Britain became a global language, used by people everywhere.

My Experience of Learning English
When I first started learning English, I was very shy and afraid to speak English in class. I often kept silent even if I knew the answers.
One day, my English teacher asked me to read a short passage aloud. My face turned red at once, but I tried my best to read it carefully. To my surprise, my teacher spoke highly of me and encouraged me to keep on.
From this experience, I learned not to be afraid of making mistakes. Practice makes perfect. Now I am more confident and my English has improved a lot.

四、阅读理解
Learning grammar (语法) is a key part of studying English, but memorizing rules can sometimes feel boring or hard. Don’t worry— here are some simple and fun tips to make grammar easier and more interesting.
First, when you learn a new grammar rule in class, try to teach it to someone else. You can explain it to a family member, a friend, or even a pet! Teaching helps you understand the rule better and remember it longer.
Second, use grammar in real life. For example, if you are learning the present continuous tense (现在进行时) , talk about what people are doing around you, like “My sister is reading a book” or “The children are singing outside.” This makes grammar useful and connected to your daily life.
Finally, don’t be afraid of making mistakes. They are a natural part of learning. The key is to learn from them. Try to practice writing a short diary in English every day. Even just a few sentences each day can make a real difference. When you do make a mistake, or if you’re ever not sure whether (是否) something is correct, don’t be afraid to ask your teachers or classmates for help.

2.The writer introduces the Chinese characters by ________ in Paragraph 4.
A.giving examples B.providing causes C.expressing opinions D.comparing facts
3.Which Chinese character is formed using the method described in the underlined sentence?

4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Chinese characters have turned into standard forms, all of which are easier than before.
B.Chinese characters we use today have been accepted by large numbers of people.
C.Chinese characters existed at the very beginning and remain today like other ancient symbols.
D.Chinese words and English words are both formed by putting alphabets and characters together.
5.In which part of a newspaper can we probably find the passage?
A.Entertainment. B.Culture. C.Nature. D.Review.
