Have you thought about their meanings in films? Much like colors, different shapes can show different features (特征) of characters in the scenes. ②Circles represent (象征) things that are soft and natural. The round shape reminds us of things that appear in nature, like the sun, flowers, raindrops and so on. We can also connect circles with beautiful eyes, babies’ round faces…All these things make us feel happy and warm. This is why so many cartoon characters’ bodies — heroes, kids, good people — are round in shape, because circles represent goodness, happiness and friendliness. ③Squares show things that are unnatural or man-made, or things that are boring or old-fashioned. In Up, Carl, an elderly man, has a square face and wears square glasses, while Russell, an 8-year-old boy with a round face, always wears round medals. These shapes show the characters’ personalities. Carl is stubborn (执拗的) and lonely, while Russell is lovely and full of energy. ④The angriest shape is the triangle. Kids who draw a monster with sharp teeth draw a row of triangles, don’t they? That’s because the shape represents fear, distrust and doubt in some way. If you look at the evil guys in cartoons, you’ll find they’re all drawn with plenty of points and triangles. And triangles are stable (稳定的) and don’t easily fall down. In films, this feature makes bad people difficult to deal with. ⑤Not only in cartoons, but also in other kinds of films, different shapes are used for the same purpose. So, next time you see a film, try to find the hidden shapes and you will know what the characters are like. 39. How does the writer start the passage? A. By telling a story. B. By asking questions. C. By listing numbers. D. By giving an example. 40. What does the underlined word “evil” mean in Paragraph 4? A. Brave. B. Bad. C. Polite. D. Honest. 41. Which of the following is the structure of the passage? A. ①/②③④/⑤ B. ①②③④/⑤ C. ①/②③④⑤ D. ①②/③/④⑤ 【答案】39. B 40. B 41. 【39题详解】 根据文章第一段开头“Have you seen circles, squares and triangles...? Have you thought about their meanings...?” B选项By asking questions. 【40题详解】 根据第四段上下文语境,前文提到“monster with sharp teeth”(长着尖牙的怪物) 和“fear, distrust and doubt”(恐惧、不信任和怀疑),后文对应提到“bad people”(坏人),可推断“evil guys”指反派角色,因此“evil”意为“坏的、邪恶的”。 C For centuries, China has been known as “a state of ceremony”, which means Liyi Zhibang. There was much greeting etiquette in ancient China. And the fist-and-palm salute (拱手礼) was quite a classic example. Today, although Chinese people usually shake hands when meeting friends and relatives, people still make fist-and-palm salutes when they are paying a visit to someone during the Spring Festival or attending someone’s wedding or birthday party. The fist-and-palm salute has a history of more than 3,000 years. Since the Western Zhou Dynasty, people had already performed it when meeting peers (同辈). In ancient times, if people met a stranger, they would prepare for a fight if necessary, and their hands were always ready for holding any weapon (武器). Holding hands together pointed towards themselves was a gesture of saying “relax”, meaning “I’m not with any weapon and I’m not here to pick a fight”. Later, it became the etiquette when people met each other or showed thanks. So, how should people do the fist-and-palm salute properly? First, stand at attention. If you’re a man, make a fist (拳) with your right hand, then hold the right hand with your left hand in front of your chest, look at the person, raise both hands to the eyebrows (眉毛), bend down and shake hands gently three times. At the same time, you can also say some lucky greeting words. If you’re a woman, you should do it the other way which should be the right hand on the top. People may be more familiar with the hold-fist salute, called bao quan li in Chinese. It is widely used among the kung fu masters and students. This gesture is formed by holding the right fist first very tightly closed and covering it with the left hand open, and extending both arms a little forward in front of the chest. Make sure the left thumb (拇指) is close to the index finger (食指) and don’t point it at yourself, as it shows impoliteness. 42. What does the underlined word “etiquette” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Need. B. Manners. C. Dances. D. Groups. 43. Which picture shows the CORRECT way for women to do the fist-and-palm salute? A. B. C. D. 44. If Mike wants to do the hold-fist salute, he should ______. A. keep his right hand open B. put his right hand on his left hand C. not point his left thumb at himself D. not hold out his arms 45. What can we learn from the passage? A. There are no standards for these two salutes. B. The fist-and-palm salute is more common in kung fu. C. Now, people celebrate one’s birthday with the hold-fist salute. D. These two salutes seem similar, but they are quite different. B 43. A 44. C 45. 【42题详解】 第一段开头提到“For centuries, China has been known as “a state of ceremony”,中国被称为“礼仪之邦”,后文介绍的拱手礼就是一种典型的“礼仪”。 【43题详解】 第三段明确提到“  If you’re a woman, you should do it the other way which should be the right hand on the top.”,说明女性行拱手礼时,右手在上(左手握拳,右手在上)。 【44题详解】 第四段说明抱拳礼的要求:“Make sure the left thumb is close to the index finger and don’t point it at yourself, as it shows impoliteness.”(左手拇指要靠近食指,不能指向自己,否则不礼貌)。 【45题详解】 文中分别介绍了“拱手礼(fist-and-palm salute)”和“抱拳礼(hold-fist salute)” 的不同适用场景、姿势规范,二者虽形式相似但细节与用途不同。 根据对话内容,选择恰当的句子将对话补充完整,每个选项限用一次。 (Sally finds a schoolbag on the playground. A. get thin B. sleep well C. look older D. have good teeth 37. What can we learn about sugar from the pictures above? A. A woman eats as much sugar as a man. B. There are 4g of sugar in 66 g of ice cream. C. Americans eat less sugar for each person than Chinese do. D. 400 ml of rice milk has less sugar than 400 ml of grape juice. 38. We often consume more sugar than we realize without knowing it. D. Adults can have sugar free drinks if they really want to. B ①Have you seen circles, squares and triangles (三角形) everywhere in your daily life?
