Bird-watching is more than just a hobby; it is a bridge between humans and nature. For James Speirs, a 38-year-old bird-watcher in Hong Kong, this belief has guided his love for birding.
Speirs lived in Beijing before moving to Hong Kong. His love for birds dates back to his childhood in South Africa. However, he only took this hobby more seriously when birding became popular worldwide in 2021.
One day, Speirs heard the clear call of a hoopoe at Beijing’s Olympic Forest Park. It’s a bird he had always connected with Africa. “I had no idea hoopoes could be found in China, so it was amazing to see the same bird thousands of kilometers away from its African habitat,” he said.
A key part of Speirs’ bird-watching journey is his work in citizen science, largely through eBird, an app developed by Cornell University in the US. “It allows people around the world to record the birds they see, check birding hot areas and find out which species they might see in one area.” As introduced on eBird’s official website, every recorded sighting provides valuable data for scientific research.
Through his hobby, Speirs has developed a deeper understanding of birds and nature. “The most surprising thing I’ve learned is how far birds travel: A bird I see in Hong Kong today might be in Beijing in just a few days and the Arctic Circle in a few weeks,” he said. This idea has greatly raised his environmental awareness: “Earth works as one system, and what happens in one place can influence places far away. It is our responsibility to protect the environment.”
24. When did Speirs start to treat birding seriously?
A. After he moved to Hong Kong.
B. After he saw a hoopoe in Beijing.
C. When he grew up in South Africa.
D. When birding got global popularity.
25. What can people do with the app “eBird”?
A. Record all creatures they see.
B. Ask scientists for valuable data.
C. Check the access to birding areas.
D. Find out existing birds in one area.
26. What has Speirs learned from bird-watching?
A. Parts of nature influence each other.
B. Birds need to live far away from humans.
C. Environment should be protected for birds.
D. Pollution spreads with human’s movement.
27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To explain how to observe birds.
B. To inspire people to use the eBird app.
C. To introduce a bird-watcher and his story.
D. To show the scientific value of bird-watching.

Not long ago, sharing your daily life online to make a living seemed strange. But today, the global influencer economy is growing quickly and had reached over $32 billion by 2025. It started from online famous-person culture and is promoted by social media like TikTok. This shows a big change in how brands (品牌), customers and influencers connect with each other.
People trust influencers mainly because of a one-way emotional connection. Followers feel as if they know the influencer personally. This relationship is built through content update that looks real and close to daily life. This is different from well-designed advertisements (广告) made by brands. This sense of closeness makes influencers seem more believable than the brands they recommend. On the website 20Something, a 16-year-old girl described her favorite creator like this: “She’s not perfect. Sometimes she forgets to post. When she recommends something, it’s because she actually uses it. That’s why I believe her.”
Some influencers are even creating their own brands, which fit naturally with their personal identity. These products feel like true reflections of who they are, rather than simple money-making projects.
In today’s crowded online world, trust is highly valuable. Influencers don’t gain influence just by being famous; they build it by connecting closely with their followers and showing deep knowledge in areas like beauty, fitness or parenting. However, this trust can be easily broken. Problems such as unreal promotions can quickly damage the connection with followers.
For brands, working with influencers also brings challenges. They must follow rules, adapt to changing social media algorithms (算法) and make sure influencers stay real. As the influencer economy continues to grow, trust remains the most important factor. Its future success will depend on better rules and clear guidelines.
28. What leads people to trust influencers according to the text?
A. Influencers never recommend products.
B. Influencers work with well-known brands.
C. Influencers design their own advertisements.
D. Influencers build emotional connection with fans.
29. Why does the author quote a 16-year-old girl in paragraph 2?
A. To explain how to make real content.
B. To support why people trust influencers.
C. To introduce a popular online influencer.
D. To show young people’s shopping habits.
30. What is a big challenge for brands working with influencers?
A. Challenging social media rules. B. Checking influencers’ daily posts.
C. Making sure influencers keep real. D. Meeting influencers’ growing needs.
31. What can we learn from the text?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Honesty is the best strategy.
C. East or west, home is best. D. Actions speak louder than words.
D
Imagine staying in the icy wilderness of Antarctica, cut off from the rest of the world, with only a small group of scientists. Such a group might be expected to develop a culture of its own, but would that develop a new shared accent (口音)?
As part of the project to explain the spoken accent development, a group of researchers led by Jonathan Harrington, professor of phonetics (语音学) and speech processing at the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich, started the study. The researchers studied a group of 11 scientists spending six months on an island just west of the Antarctic Peninsula.
The scientists were from several countries, including the US, the UK, Iceland and Germany. As part of the study, they had to record themselves reading a list of vocabularies from a computer screen every few weeks. The list included words with vowel (元音) sounds /i:/, /u:/ and /əʊ/ that have been found to change over time in different English accents.
The recordings were then sent to researchers. When the recordings were studied, the researchers found that the pronunciation of words with an /əʊ/ sound — such as “flow”, “code” and “sew” — had changed a little over the six months. The scientists began to pronounce it more toward the front of their mouths than toward the back. (British pronunciations are already typically more fronted than American /əʊ/.)
The researchers believe it shows the development of a new accent among the scientists. Harrington said, “When we speak to each other, we remember that speech, and then that has an influence on our own speech production.”
While only small changes were recorded, the researchers believe the experiment helps to explain how different accents are created among enclosed communities — and may help us know why American and British English have developed as they have.
32. What task should the scientists do in the study?
A. Create long sentences freely.
B. Draw pictures of themselves.
C. Share their personal stories aloud.
D. Read the words and record the process.
33. What change did the scientists show in their pronunciation?
A. They pronounced /əʊ/ more fronted.
B. They stopped using difficult vowel sounds.
C. They spoke much more quickly than before.
D. They used more American English expressions.
34. What does the underlined word “enclosed” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Crowded and noisy. B. Separated and cut off.
C. Modern and developed. D. Familiar and comfortable.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Different Accents Around the World
B. The Development of English Language
C. Scientists Researched Daily Life in Antarctica
D. New Accent May Form in Enclosed Communities

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
David was a 12-year-old boy traveling alone for the first time. His parents had saved for months to buy him a plane ticket to visit his grandparents. Though excited, David felt nervous sitting in the economy class, surrounded by strangers. Suddenly, a flight attendant approached him and said, “Young man, we’d like to offer you a seat in business class.”
Confused but grateful, David followed her to the front of the plane. The business class cabin (机舱) was spacious and quiet. As he settled into his comfortable seat, he noticed two well-dressed passengers whispering and staring (盯着看) at him. One of them laughed quietly and said, “Looks like someone got lucky.” David’s face turned red. He wanted to disappear.
Just then, an elderly lady sitting across the aisle (过道) smiled warmly at him. “Don’t mind them,” she said softly. “Kindness is always in style.” Her words comforted David a little, but he still felt out of place.
After takeoff, David noticed the elderly lady struggling to open her meal box due to her shaky hands. Without thinking, he reached over and helped her. She thanked him with a gentle nod. Later, when David dropped his blanket, the lady picked it up for him. Slowly, they began to talk.
David learned that she was once a teacher and loved telling stories. She shared stories of her students, and David told her about his school and his grandparents. The unfriendly passengers eventually stopped staring and buried themselves in their phones.
注意:(1)词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When the plane was about to land, the elderly lady wrote a note and handed it to David.
After saying goodbye to the lady, David walked into the arrivals hall with a smile.

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble asking your parents to allow you to study in China. I quite understand your situation, and I’d like to share some useful suggestions with you.
Initially, you’d better have a sincere and calm conversation with your parents. Explain your strong interest in Chinese culture, language and the high-quality education here. At the same time, tell them you will take good care of yourself and keep in touch regularly. In addition, you can show them your clear study plan to prove you are responsible. I believe your parents will understand and support you in the end.
May everything go smoothly for you!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1: When the plane was about to land, the elderly lady wrote a note and handed it to David. David unfolded it carefully. In neat handwriting, it read: “Dear boy, thank you for your kindness today. Remember, it’s not where you sit, but who you are, that truly matters. Keep your heart warm. — Mrs. Grace.” David held the note tightly, feeling a wave of warmth spread through his chest. He looked at Mrs. Grace, who gave him a knowing smile. The earlier embarrassment had completely melted away, replaced by a quiet confidence. He realized that her words were more valuable than any business class seat.
Paragraph 2: After saying goodbye to the lady, David walked into the arrivals hall with a smile. He saw his grandparents waving excitedly. Running to hug them, he couldn’t wait to share his story. On the way home, David told them about Mrs. Grace and the note. “She reminded me that respect comes from how we treat others, not from where we come from,” he said. His grandparents nodded proudly. That night, David placed the note in his journal, a keepsake from his first solo journey. He understood now that real strength lies in kindness, and that sometimes, the most ordinary moments can carry the deepest lessons.

Text 4
M: I’d like an apple pie, a large plate of fries, some green beans and mushrooms, and a salad.

M: Not this time.
W: If you don’t eat them all, you’re paying for this dinner.

M: Julie, tell me a little about what brought you here today.
W: Well, I’ve been getting a pain in my knee, the left one. Not very serious at first, but it’s gotten worse.
M: So, how long have you been aware of this pain? Is it just a few days, or is it longer than that?
W: Longer. It’s been worse for the last couple of days, but it’s been three weeks since I first noticed it. It came on quite gradually, though.
M: And have you taken any medicine yourself, or treated it in any way?
W: Yeah, I’ve been taking medicine to deal with the pain. But I don’t like to keep taking it.
M: OK. Have you tried applying heat at all?
W: No, but I have been using ice on it for the last few days. And it helps a little.
M: Good.

W: The first flat I’m looking at is in Bridge Street. It has three bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a very big living room. That sounds like a good size for you.
M: What about the rent?
W: The good news is that it’s only four hundred and fifty pounds a month. Rents in that area usually reach up to six fifty a month, but Mr. Brown obviously wants to rent it out quickly.
M: Yeah, it sounds like a bit of a bargain. What about transport for Phil?
W: Well, there’ll be plenty of buses, so no problem for him to use public transport, but unfortunately, there isn’t a shower in the flat. And that location is likely to be noisy, of course.
M: I don’t mind whether there is a shower as there is a bath, but I’d like a quiet place. So what about other places?

So, first of all, clothing: since it’s still quite cold in March, you’ll definitely need to wear a pair of good waterproof boots. Make sure you don’t come in your sports shoes as those will get wet very easily. Waterproof trousers and a good jacket are also advisable.
Now, I’m sure you remember that you don’t need to bring protective gloves and big plastic bags, as the school will provide you with those at the beach before we start cleaning. During the event, there’ll be water and orange juice available if you’re thirsty, but if you think you might feel hungry while we’re actually collecting the rubbish, then you’d better bring some snacks with you, as there won’t be any food at that time. After we finish, however, a light lunch will be offered, and we’ll gather together and have a pleasant picnic on the beach!
