Shortly after I graduated from college, I moved to a new state to start a full-time job. One day at work, I found myself wanting to go travelling. As I didn’t have any friends there, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to go on my first ever solo (独自的) trip. Therefore, I quickly started doing research on where I’d like to go.
I had never travelled alone before, especially overseas, so I decided to sign up for a guided group that was going rock climbing in Thailand. This gave me a sense of safety. It felt like a great way to try being alone and meeting strangers, and doing something that sounded really fun and engaging for 2 weeks.
The entire Thailand trip forced me out of so many comfort zones that ended up being one of the big turning points of my life. The time I spent in Thailand navigating (导航) airports and taxis alone, meeting a group of complete strangers, and doing rock climbing with them in often remote parts of the country, ended up being one of the greatest experiences of my life. Up until this point I had always considered myself a “shy” person, but this travel experience lit me up to become different. It showed me a brave, strong, and self-sufficient (自立的) side of myself that went on to influence my life when I returned home.
When I got back, I pretty much devoted my life to spending as much time as possible outdoors: climbing, hiking, or backpacking... basically doing things that I once thought I “couldn’t” or was “too scared of”. Today, about 6 years later, I’m an outdoor coach and backpacking educator.
My trip to Thailand was the chance that I needed to make that change. It showed me what was possible. It changed the path of my life, and I’ll forever hold Thailand (and all the people I met) in a special place in my heart.

A By exploring reasons. B. By making definitions.
C. By listing numbers. D. By giving examples.
7. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Strong and independent. B. Outgoing and humorous.
C. Shy and careful. D. Brave and lonely.
【答案】4. C 5. B 6. D 7. A

Artificial intelligence (AI) researchers were able to successfully create a machine learning model, which was capable of learning words using footage (镜头) gotten by a young child wearing a head-cam. The findings could throw new light on the ways children learn language and potentially inform researchers’ efforts to build future machine learning models that learn more like humans.
Previous research guessed children tend to begin acquiring their first words around 6 to 9 months of age. By their second birthday, the average kid masters around 300 words in their vocabulary toolkit (工具包). But the actual mechanism of exactly how children come to connect meaning with words remains unclear and a point of scientific debate. Researchers from New York University’s Centre for Data Science tried to explore this gray area further by creating an AI model that tried to learn the same way a child does.
To train the model, the researchers relied on over 60 hours of video and audio recordings pulled from a light head camera tied to a child named Sam. The kid wore the camera on and off starting when he was six months old and ending after his second birthday. Over those 19 months, the camera collected over 600,000 video frames (帧) connected to more than 37,500 recorded speeches from nearby people. The background chatter and video frames pulled from the head-cam provides a glimpse (一瞥) into the experience of a developing child as it eats, plays, and generally experiences the world around them.
Armed with Sam’s eyes and ears, the researchers then created a neural (神经) network model to try and make sense of what Sam was seeing and hearing. The model, which had one module (模块) analyzing single frames taken from the camera and another focused on recorded speech direct towards Sam. Like a child, the model learned by linking words with particular objects and visuals when they happened to co-occur at the same time.
“I was surprised how much today’s AI systems are able to learn when exposed to quite a minimal amount of data of the sort a child actually receives when they are learning a language,” Professor Lake said.
8. What is the author’s purpose to write Paragraph 1?
A. To show evidence. B. To lead in the main topic.
C. To raise a question. D. To offer some examples.
9. Why did scientists create an AI model?
A. To understand the causes of children ’ s brain development.
B. To analyze the social factors affecting children’s language acquisition.
C. To explore the effectiveness of different ways of language learning.
D. To examine the unclear area of how children link meaning to words.
10. How does the author support the theme of the text?
A. By stating opinions. B. By making a guess.
C. By describing processes. D. By making comparisons.
11. What is Professor Lake’s attitude to the research?
A. Doubtful. B. Favourable. C. Unclear. D. Unconcerned.
【答案】8. B 9. D 10. C 11. B

It is a popular viewpoint that time spent online is bad for our health because surfing the Internet or checking our phones sometimes takes us away from activities which are considered healthier, such as playing sports or socializing. As the digital economy develops, such behavior is often linked to reduced well-being.
However, a new global study has found a surprising answer: The Internet might be good for you. The University of Oxford researchers studied data on the psychological (心理的) well-being of over 2 million people across 168 countries between 2006 and 2021. They looked at 8 indicators (标志) of well-being among the individuals, who were aged 15 to 99, including life satisfaction, daily negative and positive experiences and physical health. The researchers applied well-being indicators to test the relationship between Internet use and well-being outcomes. They found that Internet access was related to positive well-being among some people.
Despite the study’s overall positive findings, however, the link between Internet access and positive well-being was fainter for young women. While some links between Internet connectivity and well-being were positive, some links were negative — with the most observed among women aged 15 to 24 years old. The researchers state that many studies have shown social media use to be connected with greater depression, especially among young women.
A systematic review of research into the topic found higher levels of social media use were connected with worse mental health outcomes, and higher levels of social media use were connected with an increased risk of internalizing and externalizing difficulties among youths, especially females. The same report also noted that the impacts of social media on mental health are complex (复杂的), as different goals are served by different behaviors, and different outcomes are produced by different patterns of use. All in all, social media use offers both benefits and risks to the health of young people, so particularly, teenage students should treat it properly.
12. What did the University of Oxford researchers study?
A. The influence of social media on physical health.
B The mental health of people in different countries.
C. The effects of outdoor activities on physical health.
D. The relationship between Internet use and mental health.
13. What does the underlined word “fainter” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Weaker. B. Closer. C. More obvious. D. More complex.
14. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The benefits of social media for women.
B. The effects of social media on youths.
C. The increased risks of human socialization.
D. The difficulties of research on human connection.
15. Which part of a magazine is the text probably taken from?
A. Sport and health. B. Economy and life.
C. Technology and society. D. Philosophy and psychology.
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. C

The researchers state that many studies have shown social media use to be connected with greater depression, especially among young women. 故选A。
【14题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“All in all, social media use offers both benefits and risks to the health of young people, so particularly, teenage students should treat it properly. (总而言之,社交媒体的使用对年轻人的健康既有好处也有风险,所以青少年学生尤其应该正确对待它。)”可知,最后一段聚焦社交媒体对青少年(尤其是女性)心理健康的影响,强调利弊并存,即最后一段主要讲述社交媒体对年轻人的影响。故选B。

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! Today I’d like to talk about the power of music. Music has always been a powerful force in my life, shaping my moods and inspiring my thoughts.
I still clearly remember once when I was in low spirits, a soothing melody from campus studio attracted my attention. The stories, aspirations and soul expressed in the beautiful melody of the song Rice Field gradually lit me up. Drawing strength from the song, I picked myself up and continued to follow my dreams. Till now, I’m still grateful for the impact it has had on my life.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We all have dreams. Yet so few of us realize them. Often, a dream dies as quickly as it is born because we lack the confidence to keep it. When I was old enough to understand the realities of life, I realized that society puts a high value on youth, beauty and intellectual achievement. This discovery gave me some idea to develop my dream.
I know beauty is something I will never have. So I didn't dream of becoming beautiful. But I didn't see it as something bad because it forced me to concentrate my energy to develop my other qualities. What people see in the disabled is only their appearance of being disabled. People are not impressed with the ability that lies inside every disabled person.
My dream was simple. I dreamed of becoming a typist. I always hoped to be able to master the typewriter. This magic machine would be my passport to getting a job. I come from a poor family and the best that my parents could give me was a good school education. But, of course, this achievement proved to be no sure guarantee of getting a job in an office. The employment field was a highly competitive place, especially for a disabled job-seeker.
However, I refused to give in. I decided to take a six-month training course in typing. I filled in the detailed information in the application form and wrote down typing as my training course. When I handed over the form to the interviewer, she looked at me and then moved her eyes to my body. She left and discussed with another member of the staff. When the interviewer returned, she advised me to change my choice from typing. “Why don’ t you take up dressmaking so you can earn while at home?” she said. “Offices prefer to hire smartly dressed, pretty girls with beautiful hands,” she added.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I knew I didn't have those qualifications.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At the end of the course, I was chosen to type the files from the government office.
【答案】One possible version:
I knew I didn’t have those qualifications. But determined to stay with my choice of typing, I looked her straight in the eyes and said firmly, “I will be a really good typist”. With doubt still hanging in her eyes, she admitted me into the course, offering me a one-month trial. Finally, I passed the first knockout round and was allowed to continue with the course. I put more efforts into the training, taking every care to be neat and fast, and finished the assignments quickly and perfectly.
At the end of the course, I was chosen to type the files from the government office. Being a typist was just the beginning of the climb and I did not mind starting at the bottom of the ladder. I set out to achieve other dreams. Overcoming one challenge after another, I gradually built up self-confidence, which shaped my positive attitude toward life. Dreamers should keep reaching out for their dreams, no matter what the pain, until they get what they want. When they are settled comfortably, they can sit back and tell the world. “I did it.”

Shortly after I graduated from college, I moved to a new state to start a full-time job. One day at work, I found myself wanting to go travelling. As I didn’t have any friends there, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to go on my first ever solo (独自) trip.

A. By exploring reasons. B. By making definitions.
C. By listing numbers. D. By giving examples.
7. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Strong and independent. B. Outgoing and humorous.
C. Shy and careful. D. Brave and lonely.

The same report also noted that the impacts of social media on mental health are complex (复杂), as different goals are served by different behaviors, and different outcomes are produced by different patterns of use. All in all, social media use offers both benefits and risks to the health of young people, so particularly, teenage students should treat it properly.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I knew I didn't have those qualifications.
