Before we go on board, I’d like to give you a little background information. Seattle has one of the largest numbers of houseboats in the U.S.—about 500 of them in fact. That’s quite a high number and shows how popular houseboat living is here. We’re at the southern end of Lake Union right now. As you have probably seen already, this is a lively area with restaurants and shops and cafes. ⑱During our one-hour tour you’ll see a number of houseboats. People can pay millions of dollars for the biggest of these. Some of them are quite amazing and have two or three floors. ⑲My own is one of the smallest boats, but I still have plenty of room, as you’ll see when I show you around. My living area includes one bedroom with a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room. I also have electricity, running water and network, so I really do have everything I need. ⑳You may be interested to know that I’m writing a book on the history of houseboats in the city, and this should be on sale from early July.
