① Sunshine does make people happier. Imagine how cheerful you are when it clears up after long cold rainy days. Let’s discover the science behind sunlight.
② Sunshine makes your body produce a chemical called serotonin (血清素). When you are exposed to the sunlight, your body will make more serotonin, which keeps you in high spirits. At night, with little or no light, your body produces another chemical — melatonin (褪黑素). It helps your body relax and feel tired, preparing you for a good night’s sleep. You need to keep a balance between these two chemicals.
③ However, for many people, it is hard to balance sunlight with darkness. People who stay indoors a lot may not get enough sunlight. The light in a house is usually about 100 times less than that outside on a sunny day. That’s why those people should get outside in the sunshine. They can get some exercise, enjoy the fresh air and be happy.
④ There are places where it gets dark for a long time in the winter. People in those places are easier to get seasonal affective disorder (SAD). People with SAD usually go through bad experiences such as low energy and sadness. The most common treatment for those people is to sit under bright lights for some time.
⑤ Sunshine has more roles in life. For example, it helps your body make Vitamin D, which is important for health. There is more science about sunlight to discover. Next time when sunshine is on your shoulder, think: “Why do we love sunshine?”

C. Because they don’t like the long nights.
D. Because they don’t have enough sunlight in winter.
35. What’s the best title for the passage?

Chinese calligraphy is one of the most important 66 (tradition) in China. For thousands of years, people have used brushes, ink, and paper to create art with words. It’s more than just writing — it’s a way 67 (express) feelings and wisdom as well.
When I first tried calligraphy, my teacher told me, “The first step is always the hardest.” I spent hours practicing single strokes 68 (careful). My hand shook, and the line looked messy. But my teacher said 69 a smile, “Patience is key. Let your heart guide the brush.” Over time, I learned that calligraphy teaches more than art — it also teaches focus and calmness.
In ancient times, scholars spent years learning calligraphy well. They believed beautiful writing showed 70 beautiful mind. Even today, many Chinese families hang calligraphy works at their home, often with 71 (meaning) words like “平安” (peace) or “福” (good fortune). These words carry people’s hopes and welcome luck and 72 (happy) into their lives.
73 (learn) calligraphy helped me understand Chinese culture more deeply. Like a bridge, calligraphy connects the past and present. Every time I write, I feel 74 (close) to the wisdom of ancient poets than before. As the Chinese saying goes, “Your handwriting mirrors your character.” Through calligraphy, I’m not only creating art, 75 I’m growing patience and respect for Chinese culture.
