W: Hey William, thanks for lending me The Three-Body Problem. Here’s your book back. That alien civilization really blew my mind.
M: Yeah. I was also surprised by the predictions about the future.
W: Do you have any other books like that? The summer break’s coming up, and I’m planning to just stay at home and read.
M: Sorry, I don’t. Honestly, I’ve switched to e-books now, so I don’t have to worry about fitting paper books into my backpack anymore. I can take as many as I want on holiday!
(Text 2)
M: Welcome to From Fiction to Fact, where we find out about interesting ideas from science fiction books that became reality.
W: First up is Jules Verne. The French writer describes a flying machine in his book, Robur the Conqueror. Inspired by this idea, the Russian-American engineer, Igor Sikorsky, invented the world’s first successful helicopter in 1939.
M: Next we’ll look at one of the most successful science fiction stories of all time — Star Trek. It has been made into TV series — even a cartoon — as well as films. But for me, it’s the TV series that I love most.
W: Me too. Do you remember the machine which is used to make food and small objects in the TV series? It’s just like the 3D printer that we have today!
(Text 3) M
Good evening. I’m here to tell you about an exciting event called the Robot World Cup, or RoboCup for short. RoboCup is the result of five years of scientific research, which was carried out after a conference held in 1992. The annual competition was originally set up in 1997 and has become popular since then. You may be surprised to hear that robots can play football. The truth is that although their complex computer brains are quite advanced, their skills in playing football are rather basic at the moment. Some of the robots are no taller than a chair, while the majority are the size of a small child. This is a fascinating event. The aim is to promote research into what we call artificial intelligence and to help develop more advanced robots. One day, the organizers hope to produce robots capable of beating a team of human football players in 2050. I’m really looking forward to sitting down to watch a team of robots compete against humans!
(Text 4)
W: Jamie, what’s your sci-fi competition story about?
M: It’s about a scientist who travels back to ancient times. But I’m stuck after writing about 1,000 words, and now I have no idea how to develop the story further.
W: Why don’t you ask Sarah for help? She always gets top marks in writing class. I’m sure she could offer some helpful advice.
M: That’s a good idea. What about you? How’s your story coming along?
W: It’s going pretty well, actually. I’ve already finished it — it’s 5,000 words, which is way more than the required word limit. So I’m going to cut it down to 3,000 words or so.
(Text 5) W
Students often work on projects as part of a team. So how can students work together to create a successful school project? Here are three key stages. First, plan your project carefully. Make sure every team member takes part in the discussion and share their ideas. Each member of the team should be given a specific task. Once that’s done, agree on a deadline to keep the work on track. Second, research the information. You can talk together about the best ways of finding the information you need for your project. You can use the library and, of course, there’s lots of information on the Internet. Perhaps the people in your team can suggest good websites to visit. Third, present the project. The final stage is to decide in detail what you want to include in the project and how to present this information to your class. Together, you can look at all the information from your research and choose the most important elements. Remember to practise the presentation in your group before you present it to the class.

On March 16, 2025, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS), bringing hope to two American astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been stranded(滞留) in space for over nine months. The mission, named Crew-10, carried four new astronauts-Americans Anne McClain and Nicole Aunapu Mann, Japan’s Takuya Onishi, and Russia’s Kirill Peskov-to the ISS. Their arrival marks the start of preparations to bring Wilore and Williams back to Earth, ending their unexpected stay that began in June 2024.
Wilmore and Williams originally flew to the ISS on June 5, 2024, aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft for a test mission planned to last only eight days. However, technical problems, including engine failures and helium leaks, forced the Starliner to return to Earth unmanned in September 2024, leaving the astronauts stuck. NASA and SpaceX worked together to adjust the schedule of the Crew-10mission to rescue them. The Crew Dragon Endurance launched from Florida on March 14, 2025, and docked with the ISS after a 29-hour flight at 00:05 Eastern Time on March 16.
During their extended stay, Wilmore and Williams supported over 200 scientific experiments, such as testing materials for future spacecraft and improving navigation systems for Moon missions. Meanwhile, the new crew will continue this work for the next six months. The stranded astronauts, along with two others who arrived in September 2024, will return to Earth as early as March 19 aboard the Dragon Freedom spacecraft.
This mission highlights the importance of international cooperation in space exploration. While Boeing’s Starliner faced challenges, SpaceX’s reusable Dragon spacecraft-now on its 10th crewed mission-proved its reliability. The rescue also provided valuable lessons for managing long-term space missions, such as those planned for the Moon and Mars.
For Wilmore and Williams, the journey home ends a difficult chapter. As Williams once said during their stay, “Teamwork keeps us going”. Their safe return not only reunites them with their families but also strengthens confidence in the future of human space travel.
32. What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. Two astronauts will stay in space forever.
B. Many American astronauts work on the ISS.
C. The Crew-10 mission only takes American astronauts.
D. A successful dock will help bring back two stranded astronauts.
33. Why were Wilmore and Williams stranded in space?
A. They missed their return flight on purpose.
B. They needed to do more scientific experiments.
C. Boeing’s Starliner had serious technical problems.
D. The ISS refused to let other spacecraft pick them up.
34.What is Williams’ attitude towards the future of human space travel?
A. Positive. B. Indifferent. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
35. What can we learn from the passage?
A. They did fewer than 200 scientific experiments in space.
B. Starliner is more reliable than SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft.
C. International cooperation matters a lot in space exploration.
D. The two stranded astronauts will return to Earth in six months

According to the China Educational Publications Import Corporation, Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem trilogy 56____________(sell) over 6 million copies around the world in 23 languages, making it one of the best-selling modern Chinese books 57____________(international).
In a recent speech 58____________(mark) the 10th year of the book’s global release, Liu modestly 59____________(attribute) its success to two main reasons. First, he said the book’s appeal does not come from offering a sci-fi view of China. Instead, its success stems from showing a full picture of extraterrestrial (外星的) civilizations arriving in the near future—a theme that connects with readers worldwide. “Science fiction is a global genre 60____________ all humans share a common identity, breaking down national and ethnic differences,” Liu explained. “It describes crises we all face and imagines a future that unites us. That’s why it’s the literary style most able to transcend cultural and racial 61____________(boundary).”
Second, Liu linked the book’s global fame to China’s fast development. “ A sci-fi novel needs great content and to come from a rapidly developing country 62____________(have) a big impact—this is different from realist books,” he said. He noted that sci-fi started in the UK ( when it was strong) and later moved to the US (as it grew fast). Today, China’s modernization makes it a country full of future appeal, drawing the world’s attention to its sci-fi.
LIu also talked about changes in global sci-fi. He said sci-fi has grown more mature but lost some vitality—instead of looking at stars, it now focuses more on real issues like 63____________(environment) problems. However, books following the “golden age of sci-fi” style (like Andy Weir’s The Martian) still sell well. “The Three-Body Problem uses these old principles 64____________ brings new ideas, which makes it popular 65____________ overseas readers,” he added.

三、七选五 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
NASA’s Artemis II mission is a key step in humanity’s return to lunar exploration, marking the first crewed lunar flyby in over 50 years since Apollo 17 in 1972. 36 This 10-day journey, covering more than 600,000 miles, aims to test critical systems for future moon landings.
37 Named after the Greek goddess of the moon (the twin sister of Apollo), the mission carries great significance. Unlike previous missions, Artemis II doesn’t plan to land on the moon. Instead, it focuses on
verifying whether the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft can keep astronauts safe in
deep space.
A four-person international crew will carry out the mission. 38 Among them is Christina Koch, who holds the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency will become the first non-U.S. astronaut to fly to the moon. The crew has named their Orion spacecraft “Integrity.”
39 The launch is scheduled to take place at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with launch windows in February, March, and April 2026. Before liftoff, NASA will conduct a “wet dress rehearsal” to test fueling and countdown procedures, ensuring all systems work properly.
During the mission, the crew will perform various tasks. They will fly by the far side of the moon, take photos, and conduct scientific experiments. 40 After a three-day return trip, the spacecraft will splash down in the Pacific Ocean, where the U.S. Navy will recover the crew and the capsule.
Artemis II paves the way for Artemis III, which aims to land astronauts near the moon’s South Pole. It’s a monumental milestone in humanity’s quest to explore the moon and beyond.
A. The mission’s name has a mythological origin.
B. These experiments include studying space radiation and microgravity’s effects.
C. It will send astronauts beyond low Earth orbit for the first time in decades.
D. The crew consists of experienced astronauts from NASA and Canada.
E. NASA has prepared thoroughly for the mission’s launch and execution.
F. The spacecraft will take three days to reach the moon after launch.
G. Many countries are competing to send astronauts to the moon.
