Natasha Tucker’s passion for fighting plastic pollution began with a shocking moment.
While working at the Vancouver Aquarium, Tucker met a rescued dolphin whose fins were partially cut off due to fishing equipment entanglement(缠绕). This heartbreaking experience made Tucker immediately search for a way to take action against the plastic pollution that caused these injuries. “I saw immediately that this was because of us,” she says. “I knew I had to do something. Then, I found Mind Your Plastic.”
That aquarium encounter was not the only experience that inspired Tucker to action. Other experiences like working in retail(零售) management came with witnessing tons of plastic waste. “I saw how much got thrown out, and it didn’t sit well with me,” she says.
Plastic waste in business is among what Mind Your Plastic is seeking to end via its three key programs: the Circular Economy Ambassador Program(CEAP) for educators and youth, the Plastic-Free Events Policy Program for municipalities(市政当局) and the Plastic Awareness and Reduction Toolkits (PART) Program for businesses.
When people donate to Mind Your Plastic, their dollars directly support these programs and help them effect change. Through direct partnerships with local educators, municipalities and businesses, these programs connect Canadians with direct ways to take action. The CEAP program, for example, helps teachers educate youth about the circular economy, lead local cleanups, and track collected waste.
The blame game is another area in need of transition, according to Tucker, who says that big companies, not customers, should carry the responsibility to solve Canada’s plastic pollution problem.
“It’s felt for a long time like the responsibility is placed on the customers,” says Tucker. “That needs to stop.” Tucker says this perspective(观点) can be shifted by individuals creating public pressures — for example, pushing for policy — and using their dollars to support more sustainable, circular alternatives until these policy changes happen.
24.What first inspired Natasha Tucker’s passion for fighting plastic pollution?
A.Working in retail management.
B.Witnessing tons of plastic waste.
C.Meeting an injured dolphin.
D.Finding Mind Your Plastic.
25.What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Tucker was dissatisfied with her job there.
B.Tucker couldn’t find a comfortable seat there.
C.Tucker thought it a heavy task to manage the waste.
D.Tucker felt uneasy about the large quantity of the waste.
26.According to the text, how does Mind Your Plastic aim to effect change?
A.By blaming consumers for plastic waste.
B.By providing education and partnership.
C.By quarreling with big businesses.
D.By stopping using plastic products.
27.What does Tucker think about the current situation?
A.Responsibility is fairly shared.
B.Customers are wrongly blamed.
C.Companies are doing enough.
D.Policymakers show little action.

Many people know that helping others feels good. But now, a new study in the USA shows it might actually be good for your brain, too.
Researchers followed over 30,000 adults for 20 years. They studied how people’s thinking skills changed over time and compared the results with how much they helped others. Those who regularly gave their time to help others had brains that aged more slowly. Their thinking ability declined 15 to 20 percent less than those who helped others less frequently.
The help did not have to be formal volunteering. Both formal and informal support worked. Formal helping included volunteering for a charity or community group. Informal helping meant simple acts like giving a neighbor a ride to the doctor’s or babysitting for a friend. Regular small actions brought great benefits, with the best results at two to four hours of helping per week.
The study also used data from the Health and Retirement Study, which tracked American adults over 51. What made the study stand out was that researchers took into consideration other factors affecting brain health, such as education, income, and physical and mental health. Even after adjusting for these influences, the link between helping others and slower thinking decline remained strong. People who stopped helping others completely had poorer brain function.
This research adds to growing evidence that helping others is not just good for communities, but also for the people doing it. It may reduce stress, make people happier, and give them a sense of purpose. It can also strengthen social ties, which are known to improve mental and physical health.
In fact, the same research team recently found that helping others can also lower stress-related Inflammation (炎症) in the body. Inflammation is linked to many health problems, including memory loss and diseases like Alzheimer’s.
As people get older and face risks of feeling lonely or isolated, this study shows the importance of keeping them involved in meaningful ways. “Many older adults can still give a lot to the people around them,” said lead researcher Sae Hwang Han. “And they may also be the ones who receive the greatest rewards from continuing to help.”
28.What does the study focus on?
A.The gap in people’s thinking skills. B.The diverse ways to do voluntary jobs.
C.The influence of aging on brain function. D.The link between volunteering and brain aging.
29.What is the advantage of the study?
A.It drew on data from previous studies.
B.It found a direct cure for long-term inflammation.
C.It centered on both formal and informal volunteering.
D.It fully considered other factors that may affect brain health.
30.What does the study suggest about older adults?
A.They suffer a lot from memory loss. B.They can gain benefits from helping others.
C.They prefer to make significant contributions. D.They should take their health problems seriously.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Volunteering Slows Brain Aging B.Health Tips for Older Adults
C.Leading a Happy Life Calls for Help D.Ways to Keep the Brain Active in Old Age

Phood is a green-minded urban farm and not-for-profit business based in Eindhoven, Netherlands. With a mission to make the most of positive impact on both the environment and society, Phood began as a food truck serving nutritious meals, but has since grown into a community farming project. It now produces sustainable (可持续的) food while supporting individuals facing social challenges and equipping them with tools to overcome challenges and transform them into positive outcomes.
Phood’s philosophy focuses on reconnecting the city, nature, and people. As noted by Hactivist Guide, it transforms food production into a platform for personal engagement, emphasizing accessible community education and the benefits of working with nature. At the Phood Farm Picking Garden, community members can pick their own vegetables and receive discounts at the farm shop, which sells microgreens, mushrooms, kombucha, and oils.
Located on a 1.5-acre plot, the farm grows seasonal vegetables, fruits and flowers, using sustainable practices. Participants learn about permaculture and aquaponics (复合养殖) through hands-on workshops. The goal is to create a self-sustaining ecosystem that harmonizes human activity with nature, promoting regeneration rather than depletion (消耗).
Beyond environmental goals, Phood supports social growth. It offers a supportive environment for those with conditions like ADHD and burnout. Participants work alongside trained supervisors, who provide guidance and tools such as Tai Chi to help them recover in a fast-paced world. This caring environment allows individuals to develop confidence, learn skills, and feel a sense of belonging.
Phood views growth as a gradual process, much like growing plants. It provides encouragement, development opportunities, and a pressure-free space for all. Staff members report that participants often experience significant growth in self-confidence.
Looking ahead, the organization hopes to establish a long-lasting food location nearby in which they will grow leafy greens for local households and restaurants, employ more young people, and assist other cities in developing urban farms.

Nicholas Epley, a behavioural scientist, and I conducted a series of studies and concluded that kind acts as simple as buying a cup of coffee for someone can promote a person’s happiness. Everyday life affords many opportunities for such actions, yet people do not always catch them. 36
We firstly studied acts of kindness done for familiar people such as friends, classmates or family. 37 For instance, in one experiment, people wrote notes to friends and family “just because”. In another, they gave cupcakes away to workmates. Across these experiments, we asked both the person performing a kind act and the one receiving it to fill out questionnaires (问卷).
Across our studies, several strong patterns appeared. For one, both performers and receivers of the acts of kindness were in more positive moods than normal after these kind acts. 38 The receivers felt significantly better than the kind actors expected. The receivers also reliably rated these acts as “bigger” than the people performing them did.
39 In one experiment, participants at an ice-skating rink (溜冰场) in a public park gave away hot chocolate to people they didn’t know on a cold winter day. Again, the experience was more positive than the performers expected for the receivers. Although the people giving out the hot chocolate saw the act as relatively small, it really mattered to the receivers.
These findings suggest that what might seem small when we are deciding whether or not to do something nice for someone else could matter a great deal to the person we do it for. These warm acts can improve our own emotional health and brighten the day of another person. 40
A.So why not choose kindness when we can?
B.For another, it was clear that performers undervalued their impacts.
C.From one situation to the next, the specific acts of kindness differed.
D.We found that participants didn’t realize their positive impacts on strangers as well.
E.Our research also revealed one reason why people may not realize their actions’ impacts.
F.We compared the performers’ expectation of the receivers’ moods with their actual experiences.
G.It is because people performing kind acts undervalue how much receivers value their behaviour.

Today was the last day of school before winter vacation. When our teacher announced that each of us was to participate in a career experience program during the vacation, the whole class burst into whispers. “A career experience? What’s the point of it for us students?” “Who will hire us?”…
Jack, Alice and I were neighbors since kindergarten, so we naturally formed a team. Yet even after a heated discussion, we still had no clue where to start. Just then, Alice’s face lit up, “It is said that the recent heavy snow has almost put our community courier station (快递站) out of service. The station is looking for part-time helpers to deal with the snow-delayed parcels. Why not give it a shot?”
We agreed at once and headed straight to the station after school, only to be shocked by the messy yard. Parcels lay here and there in the snow, mixed with discarded (废弃) packaging boxes. Stepping inside, we found the shelves packed so tightly with parcels towering all the way to the ceiling, and even the narrow passages were blocked with unopened delivery bags.
The station was in great chaos, with people streaming in and out nonstop. Some bent over the shelves, searching for their parcels; others leaned against the counter, filling out return forms or arguing over delayed deliveries. Constant questions filled the air: “Can you check my tracking number?” “How come my parcel is missing?”…
At the center was Mr. Lee, the station manager, with a barcode scanner in his hand. When he heard our request for the part-time job, doubt crossed his weary face. He pointed at the screen of his computer, where rows of delivery orders were marked “Overdue” in red. “Are you sure you can handle this?” he asked.
We exchanged glances, and Alice stepped forward, her voice steady and confident, “Believe us — we can help.” The manager paused for a second and then nodded hesitantly.

根据第二段“While working at the Vancouver Aquarium, Tucker met a rescued dolphin whose fins were partially cut off due to fishing equipment entanglement(缠绕). This heartbreaking experience made Tucker immediately search for a way to take action against the plastic pollution that caused these injuries.(在温哥华水族馆工作时,塔克遇到一只获救的海豚,其鳍因捕鱼设备缠绕而部分被切断。这一令人心碎的经历让塔克立刻寻找办法,去对抗造成这些伤害的塑料污染)”可知,最初激发娜塔莎·塔克对抗塑料污染热情的是遇到一只受伤的海豚。
25.词句猜测题。根据第三段“Other experiences like working in retail(零售) management came with witnessing tons of plastic waste. “I saw how much got thrown out, and it didn’t sit well with me,” she says.(像在零售管理行业工作这样的其他经历,让她目睹了大量塑料垃圾。“我看到有这么多垃圾被扔掉,it didn’t sit well with me,”她说)”可推断,“it didn’t sit well with me”表达的是塔克对看到大量垃圾被扔掉这一现象感到不安。
根据第四段“Plastic waste in business is among what Mind Your Plastic is seeking to end via its three key programs: the Circular Economy Ambassador Program(CEAP) for educators and youth, the Plastic-Free Events Policy Program for municipalities(市政当局) and the Plastic Awareness and Reduction Toolkits (PART) Program for businesses.”(“Mind Your Plastic”试图通过三个关键项目来解决商业中的塑料垃圾问题:针对教育工作者和年轻人的循环经济大使计划(CEAP)、针对市政当局的无塑料活动政策计划以及针对企业的塑料意识与减少工具包(PART)计划)”以及第五段“Through direct partnerships with local educators, municipalities and businesses, these programs connect Canadians with direct ways to take action.(通过与当地教育工作者、市政当局和企业的直接合作,这些项目为加拿大人提供了直接采取行动的途径)”可知,“Mind Your Plastic”通过提供教育项目以及建立合作关系来实现改变。
根据第六段“The blame game is another area in need of transition, according to Tucker, who says that big companies, not customers, should carry the responsibility to solve Canada’s plastic pollution problem.(塔克认为,指责游戏是另一个需要转变的领域,她说大公司,而不是消费者,应该承担解决加拿大塑料污染问题的责任)”以及第七段““It’s felt for a long time like the responsibility is placed on the customers,” says Tucker. “That needs to stop.”(“长期以来,人们都觉得责任在消费者身上,”塔克说。“这种情况需要停止。”)”可知,塔克觉得目前消费者被错误地指责了。
C
【答案】28.D 29.D 30.B 31.A
根据第二段“Researchers followed over 30,000 adults for 20 years. They studied how people’s thinking skills changed over time and compared the results with how much they helped others. Those who regularly gave their time to help others had brains that aged more slowly. Their thinking ability declined 15 to 20 percent less than those who helped others less frequently.(研究人员对超过3万名成年人进行了长达20年的跟踪研究。他们考察了人们思维能力随时间的变化情况,并将结果与他们帮助他人的频率进行了对比。那些经常为他人付出时间的人,其大脑衰老速度较慢。他们的思维能力衰退程度比那些较少帮助他人的人低15%至20%)”可知,该研究聚焦于志愿活动与大脑衰老之间的关联。故选D。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段“What made the study stand out was that researchers took into consideration other factors affecting brain health, such as education, income, and physical and mental health. Even after adjusting for these influences, the link between helping others and slower thinking decline remained strong.(使这项研究独具特色的是,研究人员还考虑了影响大脑健康的其他因素,如教育程度、收入以及身体和心理健康状况。即便在对这些因素进行调整之后,帮助他人与思维衰退速度减缓之间的联系依然十分显著)”可知,该研究的优势在于它充分考虑了可能影响大脑健康的其他因素,确保了研究结论的可靠性。故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据最后一段““Many older adults can still give a lot to the people around them,” said lead researcher Sae Hwang Han. “And they may also be the ones who receive the greatest rewards from continuing to help.”(首席研究员萨·汉姆·韩表示:“许多老年人仍然能够为身边的人做出很多贡献。而且他们自己也可能会从持续提供帮助的过程中获得最大的回报。”)”以及上文提到的助人对大脑健康的积极影响可推断,该研究表明老年人能从帮助他人中获得益处。故选B。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段“Many people know that helping others feels good. But now, a new study in the USA shows it might actually be good for your brain, too.(很多人都知道帮助他人会让人感觉良好。而现在,美国的一项新研究表明,这种行为对大脑也有益处)”以及文章开篇点明核心:帮助他人对大脑有益,随后通过研究细节说明经常助人(包括志愿活动)能减缓大脑衰老,接着拓展助人的其他益处,最后强调助人对老年人的价值。A选项“志愿活动减缓大脑衰老”最符合文章标题。故选A。

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
We quickly divided up the work based on our strengths._____________________________
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Teamwork finally paid off.____________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version
We quickly divided up the work based on our strengths. Jack, being the strongest, first cleared away the snow and discarded packaging, turning the yard into an area for large parcels. He then moved all oversized items out of the crowded indoor space. Alice, outgoing and attentive, stayed at the counter to receive customers, checking their tracking numbers, guiding them to pick up packages, and patiently answering their questions. As the tallest, I used my height to sort parcels in order, ensuring every pick-up number was visible for quick lookup. We soon fell into a smooth, efficient workflow.
Teamwork finally paid off. By late afternoon, the station took on a brand-new look: shelves were neatly organized, passages fully cleared, and the once chaotic noise replaced by quiet order. Most remarkably, most red “Overdue” orders were updated to green “Done” status. “Fantastic job, kids!” Mr. Lee exclaimed in surprise. Exhausted but proud, we exchanged high-fives, a strong sense of achievement welling up inside us. At the moment we felt the point of career experience: the pure fulfillment of helping others, the true power of teamwork, and the dignity of every ordinary job.
