Completing the program remotely is an option, but they strongly encourage participants to attend a week-long get-together and introduction session in Ottawa at the beginning of the program. GVI Canada Gvicanada.ca GVI Canada arranges volunteer trips specifically in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Students can easily find one that matches their interest and career aspirations, whether that’s conservation, education, public health or gender equality, such as an 8-week trip to Thailand to help with a conservation project for elephants and sea turtles, and a gender-equality project for as little as one week in Cambodia. 21. Which program takes the longest time? A. Projects Abroad. B. Katimavik. C. Discover Year. D. GVI Canada. 22. Which website can you visit if you’ re interested in paid work? A. Discover year.ca. B. Katimavik.org. C. Projects abroad.ca. D. Guicanada.ca. 23. What do Projects Abroad and GVI Canada have in common? A. They offer guided tours. B. They leave time for independent travel. C. They involve animal protection. D. They receive support from the United Nations. B What could driving a race car and pointing a camera at the Milky Way have in common? More than you might imagine. Race car driver Bubba Wallace and photographer Batak Tefreshi journeyed together to remote Gooseberry Mesa for an adventure aiming to capture the night sky. Gooseberry Mesa, far from population centers, is protected from the night-time artificial light, making it perfect for star photographers. Nature night environments such as this are rare. Camping, hiking, and shooting stars in mountainous Mesa highlight the similarity between photography and racing. Bubba notes, “Once you fire up the engine there’s no turning back—I know I’ll be in that seat for more than three hours.” Batak agrees, “I have the same feeling as soon as I touch the wheel of my camera—I’m ready to continue through the entire night.” For Bubba, developing patience allowed him to mature as a driver and is equally essential to his photography. Seizing the moment is crucial too. “Every minute things are changing—the Earth’s shadow, the moonlight, the rise of stars,” Batak explains. “If you lose the moment, it’s gone forever.” Bubba finds the physical and mental demands of racing as crucial when travelling in Utah’s rugged landscapes under freezing temperatures. Think incoming clouds, wind, or mist will ruin your chance at a perfect shot? According to Batak, “With wide-angle nightscapes every unexpected weather condition can be an opportunity. Our photos show oranges and blues around the moon you wouldn’t see under a clear sky.” The team discovered shared interests that go beyond photography. “We’re both passionate about bringing cultures together and using our work to break down boundaries,” says Batak.“The night sky has a unifying power. The sky connects the whole world under one umbrella.” 24. Why is Gooseberry Mesa an ideal destination for star photographers? A. It’s a popular tourist spot. B. It’s located near a large city. C. It’s free from light pollution. D. It’s easily accessible to a race car. 25. In what way is photography similar to racing according to the text? A. They require patience and timing. B. They depend on advanced equipment. C. They involve travelling to remote places. D. They simply need to meet physical challenges. 26. What does Batak Tefreshi think of unexpected weather conditions? A. They make the night sky inviting. B. They are obstacles to be overcome. C. They are chances for better pictures. D. They stop him from touching the wheel. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Passion for Discovering Cultures B. Journey to Shooting the Night Sky C. Advocacy of Environmental Protection D. Charm of the Night Sky in Gooseberry Mesa C In the summer of 2021, wildfires caused a disaster on an Italian island, burning over 69,000 acres of land and displacing thousands. The Montiferru region, badly affected by the fires, is testing out a new warning system for wildfires, developed by a German company called Dryad. Due to climate change, the number of extreme wildfire events is expected to increase up to 14% by 2030. Apart from billions of dollars of damage they cause, the chemicals they produce are strong pollutants and in 2023, wildfires gave out a record 1.76 billion metric tons of carbon in the atmosphere — equal to more than double Germany’s yearly CO₂ emissions. Existing early warning systems are based on the visual detection of smoke, either through satellite imaging, cameras on the ground or human observers. “But these systems are too dilatory. In order to generate smoke that can be seen from a distance of, say, 10 to 20 miles, the fire has to be very big—you might already have half a football field on fire underneath. Then, if you add the time for firefighters to arrive at the scene, it may have become too big to be put out at all,” said Dryad’s co-founder and CEO, Carsten Brinkschulte. Dryad aims to reduce the detection time of wildfires and catch them early. To do so, the company has designed a solar-powered sensor fitted with a gas detector. “It can detect hydrogen, carbon monoxide, etc. Think of it like an electronic nose that you attach to a tree,” says Brinkschulte. Once the sensor detects a fire, it sends out a signal which is then sent to the Internet by satellite and 4G. Finally, what the forest managers get is an alarm with the exact GPS location of the sensor that picked up the fire. So far, Dryad has tested 300 sensors across Europe and plans to make 230,000 units next year. “Our goal is to set up 120 million of them by 2030, which would be able to save 3. 9 million hectares of forest from burning and prevent 1.7 billion metric tons of CO, from reaching the atmosphere,” says Brinkschulte. 28. What do the facts mentioned in Paragraph 2 mainly show? A. The danger of wildfire pollutants. B. The climate change over the years. C. The environmental stress from wildfires. D. The problem of CO2 emissions in Europe. 29. What does the underlined word “dilatory” mean in Paragraph 3? A. Slow. B. Distant. C. Wasteful. D. Expensive. 30. How does the new warning system operate? A. By putting out the fire directly in its early stages. B. By smelling the fire and reporting its location. C. By forecasting the weather to prevent the fire. D. By going around the forest to check the fire. 31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. The system has great possibilities for use. B. Europe especially suffers from wildfires. C. The system needs further improvement. D. Climate change will deepen wildfires. D Australian scientists have been trying to learn about hard-to-reach sea floor. But studying the sea floor is difficult. Underwater robots are expensive, often move slowly, and they can’t go everywhere. So scientists at the University of Adelaide came up with a different plan — attaching cameras to sea lions. The sea lions could cover large areas of the ocean floor quickly, and dive deeply to places humans can’t reach. The researchers chose eight healthy female sea lions because females would soon return to land to feed their young pups so the scientists could easily get the cameras back. The scientists put the sea lions to sleep and temporarily attached a light-weight camera and GPS tracker to the animals. They made sure the sea lions were treated well. Before long, the sea lions woke up and headed out to sea. Over the next few days, the eight sea lions traveled 348 miles underwater, diving as deep as 360 feet below the surface. In all, the animals collected 89 hours of video, letting the researchers see exactly what the animals saw. The videos recorded the sea floor in places that had never been seen before. The researchers were able to identify six different types of sea floor environments, such as areas with lots of marine plants, or with bare sand. The videos gave the team a good idea of the kinds of plants and animals living in each of those environments. Using Artificial Intelligence tool and the information from the videos, the researchers can predict what the sea floor is like. If the AI tool is given the sea’s temperature at the surface, and how far the location is from land, it can guess what the ocean floor will be like. And it’s correct 98% of the time. Thanks to the sea lions, the scientists now have a better idea about what the sea floor is like, even in areas that haven’t been studied. As one researcher said, “They’re giving us a window into their world that we haven’t had before.” 32. What does the author mainly intend to stress in paragraph 1? A. It is challenging in exploring the sea floor. B. It is difficult to develop underwater robots. C. Robots can’t be used to study the sea floor. D. The sea floor is too deep to reach by humans. 33. What do the researchers care more about when attaching cameras to sea lions? A. The sleep of the sea lions. B. The safety of the sea lions. C. The equipment of the project. D. The growth of young sea lions. 34. What is paragraph 5 mainly about? A. The process to explore the sea floor. B. The exciting result of the research. C. The unique living creatures in the ocean. D. The different types of sea floor environments. 35. What can be inferred from the researcher’s words in the last paragraph? A. The sea lions are providing them with food. B. The sea lions are teaching them how to use AI tools. C. The sea lions are showing them a new way to swim. D. The sea lions are helping map the sea floor in a new way. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How You Open Your Car Door Matters to Cyclists The “Dutch Reach” isn’t a new dance move or a random challenge. ____36____ And you might keep your car door safe in the process, too. All you have to do is change how you open your door. Typically, a person sitting in the driver’s seat of a car opens the door with the hand closest to it. It makes sense since doors are designed to be opened that way. Pull the handle and the door is open. But if you happen to do that at the wrong time, you may unknowingly create an obstacle for a passing cyclist. Dig a hole. Put in a seed. Cover it with dirt. Water it. Wait. “See, Laynie,” I explained, “a whole plant will grow from this tiny seed. All we have to do is water it.” Laynie had her own watering can so she could “help” me in the garden. One day, after everything was watered, she ran to the fence and started sprinkling water on another spot. I walked over and saw a fresh patch of dirt near the fence. “Did you plant something there?” I asked. “Yes,” she said. “I’m growing a pencil. My purple pencil got too small, so I planted it.” “What? But, Laynie—” I should have explained things right then, but I just muttered, “Uh…I never grew one before.” Later I got what seemed like a great idea. I dug up Laynie’s pencil and “planted” a brand-new purple pencil. Laynie was really excited when she saw it. “My pencil grew!” she shouted. A few days later, Laynie was watering on the same spot. Two days later, new crayons sticking their pointy little heads out, thanks to me. Laynie jumped up and down and yelled, “They look like flowers!” She “picked” them and ran into the house. Next, Laynie grew an adult bear doll from a tiny one, a soup spoon from a teaspoon, and a hand mirror from a piece of glass. When she claimed that she had grown these things, I just kept my mouth shut! Actually, it was fun trying to think of what should grow from Laynie’s seeds. And it was cool to see her get excited. One day I saw her patting down some dirt near the fence again, so I knew she’d just planted something. My heart dropped to my feet when she asked, “How long does it take to grow a goldfish, Brad?” I couldn’t speak. “Not long, I bet!” said Laynie. She knelt down to whisper “Grow, Molly. Grow!” before she skipped back to the house. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I sat down with my back to the fence and thought for a long time. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Later I found Laynie sitting by the spot where Molly was buried. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2026年普通高等学校招生全国统一考试预测卷(Ⅱ)·A 英 语 注意事项: 1. One possible version: I sat down with my back to the fence and thought for a long time. Sighing, I decided there was only one right thing to do. I got up, took some things from the shed, and went inside. When I displayed the short pencil, the crayons, the teaspoon... on the table, Laynie was dumbfounded. Then I explained how I’d dug up and replaced all of her things. “No!” she screamed, red-faced. With a big shove, she knocked everything off the table. “Laynie,” I swallowed hard and added, “Molly isn’t going to grow either.” At this, she burst into tears and ran off. The heart pierced with guilt, I felt like a worm. Later I found Laynie silting by the spot where Molly was buried. I sat down beside her, gently held her in my embrace and apologized. Laynie turned her face away. I went on, ‘‘See, you can grow things from seeds—not from pencils or... dead things. OK?” “Just seeds?” she asked, face still tear-stained. I nodded. She looked at me for a minute as if thinking about something. Later that day, after we had a funeral for Molly, I saw Laynie patting down some dirt on Molly’s grave. My heart tightened. “I’m growing some forget-me-nots, so Molly won’t forget me,” she said. This time, I thought “the green thumb” would have a real harvest. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
