To her horror, the basket was empty. Jane’s heart sank as she frantically searched the yard, her voice trembling with fear as she called Pip’s name. Tears welled up in her eyes as she imagined the worst, fearing that Pip might have been blown away by the storm or hurt by the falling branches. She knelt down, scanning the ground for any sign of the little sparrow, her hands shaking as she picked up twigs and leaves.
At this moment, Mr. Thompson appeared with Pip. He held the sparrow gently in his hands, his expression a mix of concern and embarrassment. “I found him hiding under my porch,” he said, his voice softer than usual. “The storm was too strong for him.” Jane rushed over, tears of relief streaming down her face as she took Pip back. She looked up at Mr. Thompson, her eyes shining with gratitude. “Thank you.” she whispered, her heart overflowing with joy and newfound respect for her neighbor.

My adventure with pottery began unexpectedly online. I saw a video of a person making a late-night snack, but what truly caught my eye was the plate — a beautifully simple, cream-colored piece with a unique bubbled shape. I had never seen anything like it and immediately wanted one, I imagined all the meals I could present on it and how lovely they would look.
However, it was quite expensive. I couldn’t justify the purchase, so a bold idea struck me: Why not make it myself? I admitted this was a little unreasonable. My only experience with clay was from a brief encounter in elementary school. Yet, driven by the desire for that unique plate and then a wish to learn something new, I signed up for a pottery class last April.
I entered the first class confidently, but reality soon hit. In the beginning, handling clay — which seemed so simple — was much harder for me, a rather carefree girl, than I had anticipated. My posture was wrong; I failed to center the clay on the wheel; I even couldn’t control its speed properly. Once, I spun the wheel too fast and made my piece flying across the room. I felt embarrassed and thought about quitting right then.
However, I was not the one to give up easily. I continued attending class. By the third session, a shift occurred. I concentrated on steadying my elbows, gently applying pressure to the clay, and slowly pulling up the walls to form a bowl. The quiet rhythmic sound of the spinning wheel had a calming effect. To my surprise, by the end of that class, I had created my first real piece — a small, imperfect, yet completely handmade bowl.
That semester taught me more than pottery; it taught me perseverance, and how to find beauty in imperfection. I left with several bowls and a vase. The bubble-shaped plate remained my goal in my next round of classes. This journey reminded me that true value lies not in a perfect product, but in the rewarding process of creating something with my own hands.
24.What was the author’s initial intention of making a piece of pottery?
A.To learn a new skill. B.To join a pottery class.
C.To have a special plate. D.To decorate a perfect room.
25.Why did the author almost give up pottery making?
A.She found it too tiring. B.She was rather careless.
C.She lacked the proper instruction. D.She struggled with the basic techniques.
26.Which of the following can best describe the author?
A.Daring and modest. B.Cautious and sensitive.
C.Determined and patient. D.Curious and considerate.
27.What does the author learn from her pottery experience?
A.Well begun is half done. B.The journey is the reward.
C.Perfection is the enemy of progress. D.A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

(原创)Diella isn’t a real person. It’s a computer program designed to act like a person. It was created by Albania’s National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI). Like ChatGPT, the program uses AI to answer questions and take actions. But Diella’s face and voice are based on those of Anila Bisha, an Albanian actress.
The hope was that Diella would help avoid corruption by making sure government services were delivered fairly. The software also created records of its work that could easily be checked.
Last September, Mr. Rama made a big change from using Diella as a virtual helper on the government website. He introduced Diella as Albania’s Minister for Artificial Intelligence. Diella became the world’s first “virtual minister”.
Diella is now being used to speak before Albania’s parliament and for other official presentations and videos.
As a minister, Diella is expected to be more than a chatbot. Diella will be used when the government buys things. Using a system of AIs – some trained on the country’s laws – Diella will recommend which things to buy and from which sellers. But the country still plans to have humans make the final decisions.
But Diella is also facing serious questions.
Ms. Bisha isn’t happy about the way the government is using her image. She says she agreed to let the Albanian government use her face and voice on its website for a year. But she says she never agreed for her image to be used as the face of a government minister.
The actress says that now people call her “Minister Diella” when they see her. She’s worried about the things that the Diella AI program might say.
Ms. Bisha is suing the government for €1 million ($1.18 million). She says the government doesn’t have the right to use her face and voice for their AI minister. She has asked a court to make the government stop.
Diella is also raising questions about government corruption. In December, the people in charge of AKSHI, the group that created Diella, were arrested on corruption charges. Now some people wonder if Diella could have been programmed to ignore some illegal actions.
The two cases are separate, and neither has been decided yet.
For Albania, the results are mixed. Appointing Diella as a government minister certainly got the world’s attention, but not all of that attention has been positive.
28. According to the passage, whose face and voice is the AI program Diella based on?
A.Mr Rama. B. AKSHI. C. Anila Bisha. D. A programmer.
29. What can be inferred from the passage about Anila Bisha's lawsuit against the government?
A. She is proud to be associated with the title "Minister Diella."
B. Her initial authorization for the use of her likeness had specific limitations.
C. She desires a higher payment from the government for the continued use of her image.
D. She believes the concept of an AI minister is fundamentally illegal.
30. Regarding Diella's role in government consuming, which of the following inferences is most line with the passage?
A. It will make buying decisions autonomously without human involvement.
B. Its suggestions may be based on national laws, but humans make final decision-making authority.
C. Its primary function is to deliver diplomatic speeches and presentations for the government.
D. It was designed to replace all government officials involved in purchasing.
31. What is the best title of the passage?
A. AI in the Albania’s Government.
B. Albania’s New Female Minister,Diella.
C. Virtual Minister, Diella, Faces Questions.
D. AI Diella Also Makes Mistakes.

Scientists from Swansea University have developed a new tool to help identify the best photovoltaic (PV)materials capable of maximizing crop growth while generating solar power.
In a recent study published in Solar RRL, academics from the University's Department of Physics have been exploring the effect of semi-transparent (半透明) PV materials placed over crops — a successful application of agrovoltaics (农业光伏).
As part of this work, the team has developed a practical freeware tool that predicts the light transmission, absorption, and power generation of different PV materials nearly anywhere on the globe using geographical, physical, and electrical measurements. This is essential for finding the best balance between growing food and producing clean energy.
A key factor for refining agrovoltaics is selecting the appropriate PV material, which requires an understanding of how the material absorbs different wavelengths (colors) of light, as well as its bandgap. A wider bandgap means the material can absorb light that is higher- energy and has a shorter wavelength (blue), while a narrower bandgap allows the absorption of lower-energy, longer wavelength (red) light.
By carefully selecting PV materials with specific bandgaps and absorption properties, researchers can accurately control the “color” of light transmitted through semi- transparent PVs to hit the crops, which mainly absorb red and blue light to photosynthesize (光合作用), reflecting green light.
Project lead, Associate Professor Ardalan Armin, said,“By refining the combination of solar panels and agriculture, agrovoltaics has the potential to significantly contribute to the decarbonization of the agricultural sector. This approach not only generates clean energy but also enhances food security.”
Solar panels or PVs can be attached to the roofs of greenhouses and can also be used to provide shelter for livestock (家畜). In return, the livestock can reduce maintenance costs by eating vegetation around the panels. However, careful consideration of the type of livestock is crucial as some species, like goats, can jump onto the PVs and cause serious damage.
32.What is the main function of the newly developed tool?
A.To increase agricultural production. B.To lower farming energy expenses.
C.To study global climate measurements. D.To forecast PV material performance.
33.What can researchers do to improve crop growth with light?
A.Reflect green light to crops. B.Create light colors that suit crops.
C.Use PV materials with the right bandgaps. D.Change crop light absorption abilities.
34.What should be considered in using PVs in livestock farming?
A.Minimizing maintenance expenses. B.Ensuring animal well- being.
C.Setting up physical barriers for the PVs. D.Avoiding animal damage to the panels.
35.What is the text mainly about?
A.The study of advanced PV materials. B.Cost reduction through solar energy use.
C.A tool for boosting crops and solar power. D.New applications of solar panels on farms.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Household chores like cooking, cleaning, washing the dishes, and making the bed are never done; they just get repeated like a broken record. Boring! 36 . But there are science-based reasons for changing your attitude towards chores. It turns out that doing chores is great for your health.
37 . As researchers state in a report, doing undemanding tasks allows the mind to wander. Your mind gets a break, which allows you to consider old problems with new eyes. In fact, undemanding tasks stimulate (激发) more creative ideas than demanding tasks or just resting.
Chores are linked to a lower dementia (痴呆) risk. To discover what activities might be linked to a lower rate of dementia, researchers analyzed massive amounts of healthcare data from the UK Biobank. They found that those most engaged in household chores had a 21 percent lower risk of dementia compared to those least engaged in chores. 38 .
Finishing your chores can increase motivation. BJ Fogg, author of Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything, states that the most important skill is recognizing and celebrating successes. Completing even a small task, like making your bed, can give you a sense of satisfaction. 39 . Similarly, author Admiral William H. McRaven argues that if you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.
Chores are good for children’s mental health. Children develop a sense of ownership when they have jobs to do around the house and it makes them feel like they are an important member of the household. 40 . In my own case, I bond with my daughter by gossiping (闲聊) and singing while we do chores together.
A.Chores are an opportunity for “me time”
B.Chores can lead to creative problem-solving
C.Thus, you feel motivated to deal with tasks one after another
D.In this way, they can be taught to be independent and confident
E.Like many people, you may regard chores as something annoying
F.Doing chores with children also improves the parent-child relationship
G.This result indicated simple changes could make a difference to health

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jane had a deep affection for birds. Every morning, she scattered (抛撒) seeds in her backyard and whispered, “Good morning, my little friends!” To her, their songs sounded like cheerful laughter, and she often laughed along with them.
However, her neighbor, Mr. Thompson, didn’t share her joy. He was constantly annoyed by the birds that flew into his yard. “They’re too noisy!” he complained. “And they make such a mess in MY yard!” His sharp words made Jane feel quite uneasy, yet she refused to give up on her feathered friends. She firmly believed that every small creature deserved care.
One morning, Jane discovered a small sparrow (麻雀) shaking under the fence. One of its wings looked bent at a painful angle. Filled with worry, Jane carefully picked it up and named it Pip. She placed him in a small, warm basket in a safe corner right next to the fence.
A week passed. Pip was getting better but still unable to fly. One afternoon, while Jane was feeding Pip by the fence, Mr. Thompson shouted from his side, “You’re just asking for trouble!” Jane gently lifted Pip in her hands so Mr. Thompson could see him through the gaps in the fence. “Look, Mr. Thompson. Pip’s wing is hurt.” Mr. Thompson cast an impatient glance at the tiny creature. For a moment, his frown (皱眉) softened. “That wing...” he said softly, almost to himself.
Just then, Jane’s mother called her from the driveway, saying they were leaving for a family visit. Jane waved a quick goodbye to Pip and hurried to the car. However, on their way home, a heavy storm broke out. Watching the trees shaking in the strong wind, Jane felt very worried about Pip, who was left all alone in the yard. The moment they pulled into the driveway, she dashed toward the backyard, calling Pip’s name. 注意:

As his status shifted to that of a peasant可知,此处用一般过去时。

故填to rise。

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
