My family had a long-running cycle of growing up poor. Both my mom and dad came from large families with little more than the clothes on their backs. Their parents had also grown up with very little.
When I was five, I showed an interest in machinery. By Grade 3, I was learning to program using the BASIC language. Then, one day in high school, my computer science teacher suggested that I attend a computer camp. He gave me a brochure (小册子), and I excitedly took it home. That excitement quickly disappeared when my mom saw the price of the camp: several hundred dollars. That evening, I went into my room and cried my eyes out.
But a few weeks later, I got a phone call. It was the head of the computer camp telling me I had been admitted. I could hardly believe my ears. At that camp, I met many like-minded kids and learned how to build websites. It lit a fire in me.
Ten years later, I received another call from the camp director. “I’ve found something I think you’ll want to see,” he said, suggesting we meet. When we did, he pulled out a long handwritten letter that my mom had sent when I was 15. She wrote that I was a smart kid. She talked a lot about my early love for machinery and computers. She ended by saying she couldn’t afford the cost of the computer camp and hoped with all her heart that they would still accept me. I broke down crying at once.
Over the years, I continued to learn as much as I could. In 2014, I finally landed a job where I could use all my skills. Now, I’m proud to say that I’ve broken my family’s cycle of living poorly.
And all I want to do now is to sit down with my mom and thank her for everything she has done for me. Without her, I would never have the bright life I have today.

Black Beauty is a classic novel by English author Anna Sewell. It has sold over fifty million copies worldwide and is still one of the best-loved children’s books. The story happened in the 19th century England. During that time, horses were mainly used to work for people.
The story begins with Beauty’s happy childhood on a nice farm. His mother tells him that not all masters are the same. She teaches him to be gentle and hard-working. Under the care of his kind owner, Squire Gordon, and the wise groom John Manly, Beauty grows strong and learns what a good life can be. But his peaceful days don’t last. When the Gordons have to move, Beauty is sold. This begins a long and difficult journey from one owner to another.
At Earlshall Park, Beauty’s new owner makes all the horses wear painful short reins (缰绳) to keep their heads high for fashion. This small act causes real suffering (痛苦). Later, Beauty is sold to London to work under difficult conditions. Lucky then, Beauty meets Jerry Barker, a kind cab driver who treats him with care and never forces him. Their friendship shows true respect between humans and animals. Because of Jerry’s illness, Beauty is sold a few more times until an old friend finds him. He is taken to a peaceful farm, cared for with love, and lives out his years in happiness. After all his pain, Beauty finally comes home.
Black Beauty is not just about a horse—it’s about kindness and respect. Through Beauty’s eyes, we see both the best and worst of humans. Sewell’s messages still touch us: Animals feel pain, fear, and love, just as we do.

As a Grade 9 student, you must have a lot of pressure before the senior high school entrance exam. You face not only written tests, but also PE tests and oral English tests. 41 You may feel tired, worried or even angry easily. These bad feelings are bad for your health and study.
Here are four useful ways to help you deal with pressure.
First, talk with others. When you feel upset, don’t keep everything to yourself. 42 They can listen to you and give you useful advice. Sharing your feelings can make you feel relaxed.

Third, make a clear plan. A good plan helps you use time well. Write down your daily tasks and finish them one by one. 44 This can stop you from feeling worried about endless work.
Fourth, learn to relax yourself. 45 When you feel too tired, take a short break. Listen to soft music or look out of the window. It helps you keep a clear mind and study better later.

Do you find it hard to spend an hour at the gym? Don’t worry. Exercise snacks might be the perfect answer! Let’s explore this fun and easy way to stay active.
Exercise snacks are physical activities lasting 1 to 5 minutes. Done during the day, just like snacks between meals, these “mini exercises” are quick and need no special tools.
The term is first used in 2007 by cardiologist (心脏病学家) Dr. Howard Hartley, who was then a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Then, the value of these mini exercises has been agreed nore and more people.
Researchers explain that exercise snacks can improve energy metabolism (新陈代谢), reduce blood sugar levels, and lower the risk of diseases caused by sitting too long. A study showed that climbing stairs three times a day for six weeks increased people’s oxygen intake by 5%, helping with heart health. Plus, they give out “feel-good” chemicals (化学物质) in your brain, making you happier! More benefits can be expected as well, such as the improvement of your concentration (专注力) and creativity.
To help people start, researchers suggest some useful tips. For example, you can use everyday moments—take a two-minute walk after lunch or do sit-ups while brushing your teeth. The key is to repeat it for many times and keep it short and fun.
Remember, exercise snacks aren’t meant to replace daily exercise but to add more movement to your day. Let’s start with one or two “snacks” daily and slowly build the habit!

Plan or Plant The two squirrels in the pictures both want to plant acorns, but they take quite different ways. Pumo believes in crafting a perfect plan before planting acorns. It sits there, carefully thinking through every detail, aiming for an ideal scenario. In contrast, Ali dives right into action. It plants acorns without over-thinking, learning from each attempt.
In my view, I prefer Ali’s way. Planning is important, but without action, plans are just dreams. Ali learns from the failures of the two plants. She can adjust and improve through practice. The Rapid Development of Technology
Hello everyone! Today I’m honored to be here and talk about the rapid development of technology.
Technology has greatly changed our study and life. Robots can help us clean houses and do dangerous jobs, saving us time and energy. Tools like Doubao and DeepSeek are amazing. We can ask them questions about study, and they offer clear answers at once. Also, online classes make learning more convenient as we can study anywhere through the Internet.
However, rapid technology development brings challenges. To deal with them, we should develop creative thinking. This helps us solve problems in new ways. Teamwork is also important because we can share ideas and learn from each other. Besides, we should use electronic products wisely. For example, set time limits for using them to avoid addiction. Also, choose useful learning apps instead of spending too much time on games or social media.
