After three days in the hospital, a 12-year-old boy named John and his parents could finally go home. His grandparents were waiting for them happily at home. “Luckily, my grandson knew how to ask for help, and he saved the whole family,” said his grandma.
One cold winter night last week, when John and his parents used charcoal (木炭) to keep warm, they closed all the doors and windows of the room. This is the main reason that caused danger to John’s parents. However, before going to bed, John suddenly felt unwell. He felt dizzy and had difficulty breathing. When he tried to talk with his parents, he found that they couldn’t answer him. At that time, John thought they might suffer from carbon monoxide poisoning (一氧化碳中毒), and he became nervous. But then he knew he had to keep calm. At first, he opened the windows and doors to let the fresh air in. Then he picked up his father’s phone to call 120. While he was waiting for the doctors, he shouted to neighbors aloud for help. The neighbors ran over at once and moved his parents outside the house together. Finally, John and his parents were sent to the hospital and saved in time.
“Were you afraid at that moment?” a reporter asked. “In fact, I was. But our school has lessons about safety every week, and our teachers often teach us what to do when we are in danger. I followed the teachers’ advice. I think they are really helpful. So I want to let more people know how important safety education is,” John answered.

“On the very first day of 2024, I saw the snows of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa,” said Xu Zhuoyuan, a 17-year-old mountaineer from Hunan.
Xu climbed the tallest peak (山峰) in Africa on Jan 1. She even stood on top of Mount Qomolangma last May, making her the youngest Chinese girl to climb to the world’s highest peak from the southern slope.
Xu’s journey began on a trip to Sichuan four years ago. Passing by Mount Siguniang in Sichuan, she felt drawn (吸引) to its beauty and climbed it. She fell in love with mountaineering right then and there. For the next few years, Xu did hard training.
She climbed peaks over 5,000 meters in Yunnan and Sichuan every month. She also did daily exercises like running, swimming and rope skipping. All that hard work got her ready for the big challenges she would face on Kilimanjaro.
Above 4,000 meters on Mount Kilimanjaro, the weather is similar to a desert, with big temperature differences. During her seven-day climb, Xu faced changeable weather such as rain and strong winds. Staying warm and avoiding heat loss were very important. Xu had to keep an eye on the temperature and change her clothes when the temperature changed.
This climb was also a learning experience for Xu. She was climbing with Xia Boyu, the first Chinese climber to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma with a prosthetic (假肢的) leg. “Every time I felt like giving up, just seeing Xia was enough to encourage me. He was almost 74 years old, but was still pushing on although he had bloodied legs from his prosthesis,” Xu said.
Looking ahead, Xu has set great goals for herself. She plans to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents (大陆) and visit the North and South Poles by the time she’s 18.
8. What made Xu fall in love with mountaineering?
A. Her father’s love for mountaineering. B. A trip to Mount Siguniang in Sichuan.
C. The first Chinese climber Xia’s story. D. Her interest in Mount Qomolangma.
9. What is the main challenge for Xu in climbing Kilimanjaro?
A. The weather. B. An accident. C. Food problems. D. The friendship.

一、阅读理解(每小题2分,共5小题,满分10分)。
Anger isn’t a good feeling. Anger may make us feel uncomfortable, but it’s seen everywhere. Unluckily, many of us have been used to keeping our feelings hidden. Research suggests that this can have long-term bad influences on your health.
Is it better to cry or break things whenever something makes us angry? The research points out that when we show our anger in this way, we probably can’t get on well with our friends and our family. The longer we stay angry, the worse the result will be. So how can we deal with our angry feelings in a right way?
First, know what makes us angry. Anger is often caused by feelings such as fear, disappointment and so on.
Also, care more about those everyday things that will make us angry. For example, we may get angry in the long lines at the store. Take a step back and think that it isn’t personal. Everyone in the line has dinner to make, just like us. One way to deal with anger is to talk about it. The study has shown that if we name our feelings, we can slowly calm ourselves down and feel better.
Take some deep breaths or find some helpful exercise to do. Exercise helps with feelings of anger.
If we learn to deal with anger, we will be happier and healthier.
57. According to the text, which of the following about anger is true?
A. Few people will keep their feelings hidden. B. Keeping anger hidden will probably do harm to our health.
C. Sometimes anger is a good feeling. D. It’s better to cry out when we are angry.
58. How does the writer lead into the topic in Paragraph 2?
A. By telling a story. B. By asking a question. C. By giving an example. D. By using an old saying.
59. Which of the following is right? (X means the time you get angry. Y means the bad influence it will have.)
A. B. C. D.
60. Which can help deal with the feeling of anger?
a. Taking some exercise. b. Eating delicious food.
c. Talking about the feelings. d. Doing some controlled breathing.
A. abc B. abd C. acd D. bcd
61. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. What makes you angry? B. Why are you angry?
C. When to deal with anger D. How to deal with anger
【答案】57. B 58. B 59. A 60. C 61. D

【61题详解】
本文先介绍愤怒的危害,再重点围绕“how can we deal with our angry feelings in a right way”展开,详细介绍了处理愤怒的方法,因此最佳标题是“如何处理愤怒”。

10. Which word can best describe Xu Zhuoyuan?

11. What’s the best title for the passage?
