Shennongjia Forestry District (神农架林区) is one of the greatest natural wonders in China. It is famous for the legend (传说) of Emperor Shennong, its natural beauty and amazing wildlife.
Located in northwest Hubei, Shennongjia Forestry District(神农架林区) covers an area of 3,253 square kilometres, and 91.16% of it is covered with forests.
It is said that there are "wild men” living in the deep forests. For many years, people have been curious about whether it is true, but no clear answer has been found. However, people have noticed the real treasure here — the diverse (多样的) ecosystem. The forests are home to all kinds of plants and animals.
But things were different in the past. For money, people seriously damaged (破坏) the forests. As a result, rivers became muddy(浑浊的) and many animals disappeared. To solve these problems, the government banned logging (禁止伐木) and set up a national park.
Thanks to such protection, Shennongjia has become what we see today. Eco-tourism(生态旅游业) is getting popular here. Visitors walk in the forests, enjoy fresh air and learn how to respect nature.
