My wife and I wanted to share our new home with family and friends by hosting a small gathering in the early summer. She had prepared lots of snacks, while my job was to have the backyard in order.
There was plenty of space for the kids to run and play. There was just one thing I hadn't counted on: My brother chose to bring his dog Toby, a 50 - pound ball of fire. Though friendly, he could easily knock over my niece's small boys and my six - month - old granddaughter. So, when my brother showed up, I asked him to watch Toby and keep him outside.
My plan was working out just fine. Toby was using up his energy by running back and forth in the backyard and giving the kids plenty of room. Unexpectedly, after supper, the weather changed. It started to rain and everyone went indoors.
It was an awkward moment. I didn’t want Toby to be running around in the house, and my brother wasn't happy with driving home with a wet dog. Eventually, my brother decided to leave rather than force the issue.
A few days passed, and I hadn't heard anything from my brother. I texted him and expressed wishes for him to come out again. His reply came as a surprise — a shock, actually: "Not a chance." Clearly, he was unhappy over the way we had parted. After all, I had left him little choice. Well, he'll get over it, I reasoned.
Two months passed. My wife suggested I get in touch with my brother, but I resisted, thinking he should call first. However, my conscience(良心) kept bothering me. I tried to put myself in my brother's shoes. He was facing health issues and his wife of thirty - five years had passed away a few months earlier. Toby was his constant companion, the one who kept him going.

Then it may describe how the protagonist decides to take action to make amends, such as preparing words of apology, etc.
2. “With the biscuits my wife had made, I arrived at my brother's door.” Describe the protagonist's feelings when arriving at his brother's door, such as nervousness or expectation. Then write about the brother's reaction when opening the door, possibly surprise, indifference, or being moved. Finally, the two resolve the conflict and reconcile through communication.
I realized it was me who was at fault. My brother had been going through tough times, yet I was so thoughtless about his feelings that rainy day. Toby wasn't just a pet; he was my brother's rock. How could I have forced him to leave his dog out in the rain? The more I reflected, the heavier my guilt grew. I knew I had to make things right—S0 I turned to my wife for advice. She offered to bake a batch of biscuits, hoping these small, warm gestures could start to mend what I'd broken.
With the biscuits my wife had made, I arrived at my brother's door. My heart raced as I knocked, worried he'd turn me away. When he finally opened the door, surprise flashed in his eyes. “I'm sorry,” I blurted out, holding out the biscuits. “For being so hard on you that day. Toby is family too, and I should've known better.” My brother sighed, then pulled me into a hug. Inside, Toby greeted me with a wagging tail. As we chatted over the biscuits, laughter slowly filled the room, bridging the gap between us.

A
(2026届江苏省苏锡常镇四市5月高三教学情况调研)Sophia and her best friend, Melody, had been inseparable since middle school. Under the sheltering tree of their friendship, they had shared countless laughs and whispered secrets, though they had different personalities: Sophia preferred quiet reading while Melody loved exploring the new city paths on her old bicycle. Even the strongest trees can be shaken by a sudden storm. One afternoon, a small misunderstanding gathered into a dark cloud that threatened their precious bond.
It began with a crucial literature project that would significantly impact their final grade. Sophia, always the planner, had spent the entire afternoon alone in the quiet classroom preparing their presentation. Her fingers moved quickly and skillfully across the keyboard as she arranged slides and typed notes. Each slide was filled with strong arguments and well-chosen pictures that showed how hard she had worked. As evening approached, painting the classroom windows in shades of orange and grey, she kept looking at the clock. Her worry grew with every minute. Melody was late again. The empty chair beside her seemed to laugh at her, making her feel both lonely and angry at the same time.
When Melody finally rushed in, breathless and upset, her explanation came out as a confused mix of words. “I’m so sorry, but my...” she began, only to be cut off by Sophia whose patience had run out. “Something always happens with you! Do you ever stop to consider how your actions affect others?”
The sharp words flew out, and Melody’s initially apologetic expression hardened instantly. “And you always have to control everything! It’s so tiring trying to meet your perfect standards!” she shot back, her voice shaking with strong emotion. The air in the room became thick and difficult to breathe, filled with their hurt feelings and wounded pride. They picked up their books in angry silence, the half-finished project now representing the broken foundation of their friendship. Walking home on different sides of the street, the setting sun created two separate shadows stretching behind them — a perfect picture of the sudden space that had grown between them.

One Possible Version:
That night, Sophia lay in bed, worried about their relationship and the project. Tossing and turning for hours, she couldn’t stop replaying their bitter argument. A wave of guilt washed over her as she thought about how she had cut Melody off without letting her explain. Staring at the half-finished slides, she remembered all the creative ideas Melody had contributed. With a heavy heart, she realized her pursuit of perfection had hurt the person who cared about her most. She picked up her phone and sent Melody a message, asking to meet at the cafe the next day.
The next day, Melody arrived early at the cafe, hoping to continue her interrupted explanation. She sat nervously, twisting a crumpled hospital receipt in her hand. To her surprise, Sophia walked in ten minutes early and apologized sincerely for her rudeness. Tears in her eyes, Melody explained that her neighbor grandma had fallen and she had rushed her to the hospital. Relieved and regretful, they hugged tightly. They spent the rest of the morning finishing the project together, knowing their friendship had grown stronger through this misunderstanding.

“Mark, what a mess!” Mr. Thompson, the art teacher, exclaimed as he surveyed the paint-splattered (泼洒). Mark looked down at his paint-covered clothes and the paint on the floor. His face turned bright red, and he whispered, “I’m sorry, Mr. Thompson. I was trying to mix the perfect shade of oceanblue for my seascape painting, but I accidentally knocked over the paint bottle.”
The students around him laughed quietly, and Mark felt a lump (肿块) form in his throat. It was the school’s annual art exhibition coming up, and this painting was his entry. Now, not only was his work destroyed, but he had also made a huge mess in the art room. Mr. Thompson sighed, “Clean this up immediately, Mark. And I hope you can fix your painting before the deadline. Remember what we learned about color theory last week — sometimes unexpected combinations lead to the most beautiful results.”
With his head hung low, Mark cleaned the floor. When he finally sat back down to his painting, he realized that most of the blue paint was gone, and the canvas was made dirty. The once-promising seascape now looked like a chaotic mess. Mark bit his lip, his eyes welling up with tears. He glanced around the room, seeing his classmates focused on their nearly-finished masterpieces.
Just then, the school bell rang, signaling the end of the art class. Mark slowly packed his things. As he walked out of the art room, the gray sky outside seemed to mirror his mood. A light rain started to fall, and Mark pulled up his hood (风帽), not caring that the raindrops were making dark spots on his already-stained clothes.
He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice his best friend, Alex, walking beside him. “Hey, Mark, what’s wrong?” Alex asked, with an expression of concern on his face. Mark told him everything. “I spent hours trying to get that perfect blue for the ocean waves,” Mark sighed. “Without it, my whole painting is ruined.” Alex patted him on the back and said, “Don’t worry, we’ll figure it out. Let’s go to the art supply room and see if there’s any blue paint left.”

1.续写词数应为150左右;

Upon entering the supply room, Mark’s heart sank. The blue paint shelf stood empty. “Mr. Thompson just restocked other colors yesterday,” Alex pointed to vibrant jars of purple and green. A sudden idea struck Mark. He remembered Mr. Thompson’s lesson about color blending — blue could be created by mixing green and purple! With trembling hands, he combined the paints, gradually achieving the exact ocean blue hue he’d envisioned. Alex grinned, “You did it!” New energy surged through Mark as he rushed back to his canvas, brushes dancing with renewed determination.
Two days later, Mark stood nervously beside his reborn painting at the exhibition. Instead of traditional blue tones, his landscape shimmered with unexpected depth from the blended colors. The art teacher’s eyes widened in recognition. “Creative problem-solving deserves extra credit,” Mr. Thompson announced, placing a golden star sticker on Mark’s work. Across the room, Alex gave a thumbs-up as sunlight broke through the clouds, making the painting’s unique blues glow like real seawater. Mark touched his now paint-free shirt, understanding that mistakes could lead to brighter masterpieces.

“All right, class, settle down!” my teacher, Ms. Garcia, announced. “Today, you are going to write about your best friend in real life. I want specific details. Begin!”
I sat with my pencil over my paper. For a moment, I hesitated. I knew I didn’t really have someone like that. Still, I lowered my head and began to write: My best friend is Hayley. She plays the cello (大提琴), like I do, and we go to orchestra every Saturday. She makes people laugh, and whenever I feel nervous, she tells me, “You’ve got this.” We’ve been best friends since fourth grade. I knew Hayley wasn’t real, but it was easier than explaining why I didn’t have a best friend.
In fact, there was a girl in my orchestra class, Emily, who usually practiced the cello in the music room. Once, she helped me adjust my bow hold after a rehearsal (排练) and gave me an encouraging smile. “You’ve got this,” she said softly. I had also seen her patiently help another student work through a difficult passage, never showing the slightest impatience. We didn’t talk much because I was too shy to start a conversation, but I couldn’t forget her kindness. Without realizing it, I had borrowed pieces of her to create Hayley.
At school, I didn’t have real friends. My classmates were polite and kind, but I was just too hesitant and shy to be the first to reach out. When I needed someone, I didn’t know who to turn to. When loneliness came over, I would imagine someone like Emily beside me, her gentle voice offering encouragement. She was the friend I wished I could have.
The next day, Ms. Garcia returned my essay with a bright red “A”. “Hayley sounds wonderful! I’ve signed you and her up to perform a cello duo (二重奏) at next Friday’s Cultural Festival.” My heart skipped a beat. The lie I had built for protection suddenly turned into a trap. I was totally at a loss.

Anxious, I decided to turn to Ms. Garcia. I walked to her office with heavy steps, my hands sweating. “Ms. Garcia, I have to tell you the truth,” I whispered, my voice trembling. I explained that Hayley wasn’t real — I made her up because I was too shy to admit I had no best friend. To my surprise, Ms. Garcia didn’t blame me. She patted my shoulder gently and said, “It’s brave of you to tell the truth. Why not ask Emily to be your partner? She’s kind and plays the cello well.” Her words gave me the courage I needed.
The next day, I went to the music room to find Emily. She was practicing the cello, her fingers moving smoothly over the strings. Taking a deep breath, I walked over. “Emily, I…I was wondering if you’d like to play a cello duo with me at the Cultural Festival,” I said, avoiding her eyes. She stopped playing and smiled warmly. “I’d love to!” she replied. As we practiced together, we talked more — about music, our hobbies, and our fears. Slowly, I realized that the friend I had imagined was right in front of me, and I finally had a real best friend.

I lived in an old apartment complex where the walls were thin. For weeks,my new neighbor upstairs was keeping me awake every night between ten and midnight. What I heard was slow, forceful footsteps mixed with crying, as if someone were pacing with the weight of the world on shoulders. To cope with the noise, I would sink into the old rocking chair (摇椅) by the window. The rhythm somehow quieted my mind.
But tonight, the noise was just unbearable. I posted in the building’s group chat, “Can the 3C neighbor keep it down after 10?” Almost immediately, Lena, a cashier at a local market, replied, “Same here. Haven’t slept well for weeks.” And Tom, who ran the secondhand shop on the corner, added, “Don’ they realize how loud it is?” A few others responded, but 3C never did.
I’d had enough. “That’s it,” I thought aloud, pulling on my slippers. “I’m going up there!” I stormed to the third floor, playing my angry speech in my head, “Keep it down! Some of us need to work tomorrow!” The moment the door opened, I blurted out (脱口而出),“Do you have any idea how much noise you’re making?” But the rest of my prepared speech got stuck in my throat. A young woman stood there, eyes red, swaying (摇晃) gently back and forth in a desperate attempt to comfort a crying baby. The apartment behind her was humble-no dining table, no chairs, not even a lamp, only a mattress (床垫) and a few empty baby food packets on the floor.
“I’m so sorry, Madam,” she whispered, managing a weak smile, “I’m just trying to get her to sleep.” That was when my anger disappeared. A familiar rhythm surfaced in my mind as I saw her sway the baby tiredly. “I have a chair downstairs that might calm your baby,” I smiled softly. She looked up, eyes widening in disbelief.

Paragraph 1:
“Let me fetch it for you,” I said and rushed downstairs. I dragged out the rocking chair, wrestled it upstairs and set it down beside her. “It might work,” I encouraged her to try it. She sank into it, cradling her baby, and just like that, the crying softened into quiet breaths. Eyes glistening with tears of gratitude, she whispered, “Thank you.” I waved back, closing the door behind me. Returning home, I posted a message in the group chat, explaining the young mother’s difficult situation and calling on everyone to offer her simple, respectful support. (85 words)
Paragraph 2:
The neighbors responded to my post and agreed to gather at 3C instantly. Lena arrived with some baby food and Tom followed with two chairs, telling he’d bring a bed frame the next day. Warm blankets, a small lamp, and toys neatly piled up at her door. Enveloped in warmth, the new mum choked up, “Thank you all! Your support means the world to me.” We smiled at each other, knowing we’d given a helping hand. I realized the “noise” we had complained about was actually a cry for help, and our kindness had turned conflict into care. (85 words)

Hayden was once the shining star of professional football, a talented player whose name was shouted by fans in stadiums. Every time he sped past opponents, he shone with pride, and the loud cheers from the crowd fueled his love for the game. But one unfortunate day, a serious injury changed everything and doctors told him he could never play football again. In an instant, his entire world, defined by football, was torn apart.
At first, Hayden couldn’t bear to even watch a football match on TV. The sights, the sounds and the cheers all felt like a cruel reminder of what he’d lost. He found himself in a void (空虚), struggling to adjust to a life without the game that had once been his identity. For months, he fell into depression, unsure of who he was without his career. Every attempt to find a new purpose seemed pointless, and he sank deeper into self-doubt.
It wasn’t until one spring morning when he was aimlessly checking his phone that something caught his eye — an article about gardening as a form of healing (治愈). The idea seemed strange, even silly to him. How could planting flowers or tending to vegetables possibly fill the void left by football? But something in the article aroused his curiosity. Perhaps, he thought, there was a way to reconnect with life through something gentle — something that wouldn’t stress his injured knee.
Then Hayden bought a few small plants. He placed them on his apartment balcony (阳台), doubtful but open to the idea of finding comfort in something new. The first time his fingers sank into the soil, a strange sense of peace washed over him. The smell of the earth reminded him of the grassy fields where he used to play. But this time, it wasn’t about the excitement of competition; it was something gentle and restorative. Day by day, Hayden found himself fascinated by the quiet, steady process of growth while tending to his plants.

As greenery filled his balcony garden, the weight in Hayden’s chest slowly lifted. Each new leaf became a small victory, teaching him patience and carefulness. When his first tomato plant bore fruits, he felt a different kind of pride and achievement — not from thousands of fans cheering but from taking care of living things with his own hands. With his plants thriving, his neighbors couldn’t help stopping by and admiring them, which helped him reconnect with people without football as the center. Enjoying the plants’ unique charm and rewarding nature, he found peace in his life gradually.
Motivated by his healing journey, Hayden started a program for other injured athletes. He transformed a neglected plot of land near his neighborhood into a shared garden space, where those athletes could come together, working the land. They planted various seeds, which were more than just seeds; they planted their hopes and dreams. The garden became a place where wounded spirits found strength in each new leaf. With their laughter returning and purpose slowly growing, Hayden realized he hadn’t lost his calling but simply replanted it in richer soil.

(2026届八省八校T8联考高三年级四月阶段练习)On a cold, damp evening in mid-November, a sharp wind cut through the streets, but Jack paid little attention to the chill. As a delivery rider, he had just finished a few smooth orders, his hands warm from the hot milk tea cups he’d been carrying, and his spirits fairly good. Stepping out of a milk tea shop, he found the spot where his second-hand electric bike had been parked now empty. In an instant, his heart sank, and a wave of hopelessness swept over him, turning his calm evening into a nightmare. That bike was far more than just a vehicle; it was his lifeline, the only way for him to earn daily income and cover his living expenses.
Panic set in as he remembered the undelivered orders — especially a cup of hot milk tea for Ms. White, a regular customer. His hand trembled as he pressed the voice button, his words laced with sorrow and anxiety as he apologized repeatedly, offering to pay for the undelivered drink. To his great surprise, Ms. White did not respond with anger or complaint, but with gentle kindness. Ms. White told him not to worry and to take his time finding his bike.
Her understanding words calmed him, but also deepened his sense of responsibility. “She is so kind. I cannot let her down,” he thought. For nearly two hours, he searched every nearby street, but there was no sign of his bike. As night grew darker and the wind bit harder, Jack clenched his fists and made a firm decision. He took out his poor savings, bought a bag of fresh apples and a new cup of hot milk tea, then set off on foot to Ms. White’s apartment, several kilometers away. The wind bit into his thin jacket, and his old shoes grew heavy with mud, but the thought of keeping his promise and maintaining his integrity kept him moving forward through the dimly lit urban landscape.

Finally, breathless, Jack reached Ms. White’s doorstep and rang the bell. The door opened, revealing a woman whose expression shifted from curiosity to surprise and then to heartfelt sympathy as she saw the exhausted man before her. His clothes were dusty, but the gifts in his hands were held with care. “Ms. White, these are for you,” he grinned, offering the apples and milk tea. “Wishing you happiness and good health. I am truly sorry about the delay.” Tears welled up in Ms. White’s eyes. “Oh, Jack! You shouldn’t have walked such a long way just for this!” she said, her voice soft with emotion for his unshakable honesty, even amid his own misfortune!
Deeply moved by Jack’s action, Ms. White decided to share the story online that night. She posted a video describing what happened, writing, “Even when caught in his own storm, he still reached out to warm others.” The post quickly went viral, receiving millions of likes and shares. Strangers were touched by the ordinary man’s extraordinary act. The wave of kindness soon reached his delivery company. They promptly responded, providing Jack with a brand-new e-bike and a cash reward to support his honest work. Even more wonderfully, with the help of numerous alert eyes online, his original bike was located and returned.

When my son Ethan was in the fourth grade, he often played basketball after school at the community court near our apartment. He would spend an hour or so there every day, running and laughing with his friends until the sky turned dark. One rainy evening in March, the rain poured down suddenly. Ethan came home earlier than usual, carrying a small, wet cat tucked tightly under his jacket, as if protecting it from the cold rain.
The cat had soft orange fur, white paws, and large, trusting blue eyes that looked both scared and gentle. It was shaking violently from the cold, its tiny body huddled (蜷缩) against Ethan’s warm chest. Ethan looked up at me with hopeful eyes and immediately asked if we could let the cat stay, saying he couldn’t leave the poor creature alone in the rain.
The cat looked young, maybe a year old, and had no collar or any form of identification. I felt torn. I knew the right thing was to check for its owner, but seeing how happy and caring Ethan was made me hesitant. I thought about putting up flyers (传单) around the neighborhood, but secretly hoped no one would claim it — after all, a responsible owner would not let their pet out in such terrible weather. Then I agreed that the cat could stay with us. We dried it off gently with a towel and gave it a bowl of warm milk.
The cat settled in quickly, and Ethan named it Sunny. It was calm and loved to nap in patches of sunlight on the living room floor. A few days later, a strong urge made me check the online neighborhood group, and my heart sank when I saw a post from a family desperately searching for their missing orange cat named Marigold, last seen near the school — her description was a perfect match. I closed the webpage silently, not telling Ethan or my husband, but a quiet voice inside reminded me what was truly right, and I knew I had to contact that family.

With a heavy heart, I finally dialed the number in the post. A worried woman answered, and when I described the orange cat with white paws and blue eyes, her voice was full of joy. She told me Marigold had slipped out on a rainy evening. I explained Ethan had saved it, and we agreed they’d come the next noon. I then told Ethan the truth. Though his lips trembled, he took a deep breath, nodded firmly, and said softly, “It’s okay, Mom. Marigold must miss its family as much as I would miss it.”
The next day, there was a quiet knock on our door. The family stood outside, holding a small gift. When Marigold saw them, it rushed over happily. The woman thanked Ethan warmly, handing him a cat-themed notebook. Ethan smiled and waved goodbye. Later, he said, “Giving Marigold back makes me happier than keeping it.” I pulled him into my arms, knowing he had learned the true meaning of kindness-giving love back to those who cherish it, and that this precious lesson would stay with him forever.

My nine-year-old daughter looked up at me, hoping I would join her for a walk on the beach. But my never-ending to-do list jumped instantly, and my eyes drifted to the dinner dishes piled high in the sink, a silent refusal forming in my mind.
I planned to tell her we could go tomorrow—I had to wash the dishes, and the whole day’s busyness exhausted me. Staring at her eager eyes, I remembered making the same excuse the night before, and I could not help but notice the disappointment in her eyes. It was our first summer living by the beach, and my daughter’s love for the beach was far beyond my imagination. Spending the entire day playing in the sand and waves was never enough for her. She whispered that summer was slipping away, and I knew she was right— summer in New England was always short, and if I kept putting it off, we might miss it entirely. Finally, I told her we could go but only for a quick walk. She rushed to put on her flip-flops (拖鞋).
As we walked along the shoreline, she stopped now and then to gaze at the beach beneath her feet and the sky in the distance. She would glance at the setting sun and the beautiful pink-and-orange sky. But my mind was always elsewhere, barely noticing the beautiful scenery around us. After just fifteen minutes, I urged her to head back home.
My attitude did not change at all over the next week. Every night, I accompanied her along the beach walk unwillingly, never truly calming down to enjoy the moment. To me, it was just another task I had to finish, bringing no joy at all.
Then one day, everything changed. As we approached the dunes (沙丘), the color of the sky began to shift gradually. When we reached a place, a breathtaking sunset unfolded before our eyes— shades of orange, yellow, and red lit up the sky like a natural painting. My daughter and I stood there in surprise, all my restlessness and impatience fading away in that very moment.

The next evening, instead of fearing the beach walk, I turned to my daughter. “How about we take a longer walk tonight and maybe even have a picnic?” I suggested, my voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. Her eyes widened with delight, and she quickly agreed, running to grab a blanket and some snacks. As we strolled along the beach, I made a conscious effort to engage with her, pointing out interesting shells and asking about her day. The sunset painted the sky in hues of gold and pink, and for the first time, I truly appreciated the beauty around us.
From that evening on, our beach walks were no longer a task. They became a cherished time for us to bond and create lasting memories. I learned to let go of my worries and embrace the present moment, finding joy in the simple things like the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun on my skin. My daughter, too, seemed happier and more content, knowing that she had my undivided attention. Those beach walks became a highlight of our summer, a reminder of the importance of slowing down and savoring life’s little pleasures.

The boy glanced at the audience, took a deep breath and began to sing.
The old man sat under the sunset, reading the newspaper and listening to the radio.

Having queued for 3 hours,he was told that the ticket had been sold out.

“What is your name? ” is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time. But for me, it was the first challenge I encountered as an international student in Ireland.
The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English. For native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name Qiuyu(秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them. Every time I gave a self-introduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still could not say it the way I did.
Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should continue correcting him or simply drop the matter. I feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all, I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn't stop, the entire lecture would be ruined. “It's okay, professor,” I shrugged (耸肩). The awkward moment ended with the class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
After that incident, I stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher. ” Instead of correcting others when they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach spared me the discomfort of having to over-explain. However, I soon found that by doing so, I might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural identity.

In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name. Standing before the class, T took a deep breath and began, “‘Qiu’ means autumn in Chinese, a season of golden wheat fields and red maple leaves, symbolizing harvest and poetic beauty. Yu' refers to rain--gentle drops that nurture life.” As I spoke, images of misty autumn mornings in my hometown flashed through my mind. “Together, they paint a scene of autumn rain whispering through falling leaves.” The classroom fell silent, my classmates' eyes sparkling with curiosity. The professor nodded warmly and said, “What a beautiful image your name evokes!”
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. “Can you tell me more about Chinese names?” one girl asked. A boy smiled and added, “I tried pronouncing Qiuyu' correctly after sour explanation--it feels more meaningful now.” I shared how Chinese names often carry parental expectations or cultural references, and even wrote my classmates' names in Chinese characters on the blackboard. Laughter filled every corner of the classroom. That day, I realized my name was never a barrier but a bridge. Now, whenever someone mispronounces “Qiuyu”, I no longer hesitate; instead, I smile and say, “Let me tell you the story behind it.”

David concentrated hard. He had never lost a contest. Being on top counted, and he pushed himself to remain there.
The rocket competition would begin shortly, and he wanted to be sure he hadn’t left any detail unchecked. David checked his rocket again. Everything from the smooth fuselage (机身) to perfect aerodynamics (空气动力) told him he had another winner especially when he glanced at the other rockets.
One rocket lifted by a thin boy, however, caught his eye. The painted areas were finely done, and the seal between the stages was practically invisible. It had the look. His critical eye detected that this rocket could beat his.
“Hi,” said a voice out of the blue. David looked up. The thin boy peered down, a nervous smile on his face. “Nice rocket,” the boy said.
“Thanks,” David replied without much emotion.
“Guess you’re king of the hill. By the way, my name’s James,” James said, “Good luck. Maybe sometime we could … well, see you after the contest.”
One of the other boys walked past and tapped James on the arm. “You’re new here,” he said. “Maybe you can beat him.” The boy glanced down at David, but there wasn’t any warmth in his face.
The announcer asked for everyone’s attention and proceeded to explain the competition. David barely listened, his gaze constantly drifting to James’s rocket. Suddenly his heart did a leap. He had noticed that as James lifted his rocket to place it on the launch pad, one fin (尾翼) had caught against something in the ground, pulling it away from the fuselage — not enough to break it off, just enough to loosen it. But James hadn’t noticed.
“James will be our next contestant,” the announcer said. Immediately James lifted his rocket and headed to the launch area.

Without thinking, words flowed from David’s mouth. “James, hold on! Your rocket fin is loose!” His urgent voice cut through the noise of the crowd. James froze on the spot, panic flashing across his nervous face as he quickly checked the fin. Without a second thought, David hurried over with his repair kit, knelt down beside James, and carefully glued the loose fin back to the fuselage. “Why?” James whispered, voice thick with emotion. David met his eyes, sunlight warming his shoulders. “Some things,” he said softly, “are more important than winning.”
Minutes later, James’s rocket blasted skyward, shooting up flawlessly. It pierced the blue sky like a shining arrow, soaring higher than any other rocket in the competition, with its parachute blooming like a bright flower against the clouds. The crowd erupted into warm cheers. When David’s turn came, his rocket also flew steadily but landed just short of James’ mark. Second place was announced, yet David’s heart felt strangely full. As other competitors gathered around them, laughter and cheers filling the air, David finally understood — this warmth, this connection, was the victory he’d always missed.

(2025-2026学年四川宜宾市普通高中下学期4月高考适应性演练)On a hot July afternoon, twelve-year-old Mia found a baby bird lying under the big oak tree in her backyard. The sun beat down mercilessly, and the poor creature’s left wing was bent at an awkward angle, its tiny body trembling violently. A neighborhood cat was circling nearby, its yellow eyes fixed on the helpless bird, ready to attack. Without a second thought, Mia shooed the cat away, and then gently cupped the bird in her hands, feeling its rapid heartbeat against her palms.
“Mom!” she cried, rushing inside. Her mother, a vet, was washing dishes in the kitchen. She dried her hands quickly and examined the bird carefully. “It’s a young sparrow,” she said softly. “The wing isn’t broken, just dislocated. I can fix it, but it will need weeks of care before it can fly again.” Mia nodded without hesitation. Together, they set up a small cage in the garage, lining the bottom with soft cloth and placing a shallow dish of water inside. Mia named the bird “Lucky”, hoping the name would bring good fortune.
The first week was the hardest. Lucky refused to eat, chirping weakly and backing away whenever Mia approached. But Mia didn’t give up. She spent hours sitting beside the cage, talking in a gentle voice, offering tiny bits of bread soaked in water. Slowly, Lucky began to trust her. By the end of the second week, the bird would hop onto her finger whenever she reached into the cage, even nibbling gently at her skin. Mia’s mother rechecked the wing and smiled. “Another week or two, and it should be ready to fly,” she announced.
But Mia felt a knot in her stomach. She had grown so attached to Lucky — the way it tilted (倾斜) its head when she spoke, the soft chirps that greeted her every morning. The thought of letting it go made her chest ache. One evening, as she watched Lucky fly from one perch (横杆) to another, still a little clumsily, her mother sat down beside her. “You know,” her mother said gently, placing a hand on Mia’s shoulder, “it is time to let it go.” Mia stared at Lucky, her eyes welling up. She knew her mother was right, but her heart was not ready.

Unwillingly, Mia opened the cage. Her fingers trembled slightly as she pulled the door open, holding back tears. Lucky hopped to the entrance slowly, tilting its little head just as it always did when Mia talked to it. It perched lightly on Mia’s outstretched wrist for seconds, brushing her knuckles with soft feathers. Then it spread its fully recovered wings, flew steadily to the branch of the big oak, and soon disappeared into the leaves. Mia buried her face in her mother’s shoulder, sobbing that she would miss it terribly.
A month later, Mia was doing homework when she heard a familiar chirp. She looked up in surprise and saw Lucky perching on her windowsill, with two other little sparrows beside it. It chirped cheerfully and flapped its wings, as if coming to visit its old benefactor. Mia held her breath, a warm smile spreading across her face as tears welled up in her eyes. She finally understood that letting Lucky go didn’t mean losing it; true love for a living creature is to give it the freedom it deserves, rather than keep it locked in a cage.

(2026届四川省遂宁市高中高三二诊考试)I was promoted as the sales manager of my company, which was a significant event for our family so it deserved a party to celebrate. Our family spent a whole morning decorating the house and making delicious food.
When my sister arrived with her kid Fred, I was happy. However, she also brought along with one of Fred’s favorite toys — a rather loud toy drum. He would play it at every opportunity. Because Fred was on the autism (自闭症), he often felt tight at social events and was eager to keep his favorite things close. I knew this of course, but the drum was just too noisy. I was afraid that the party would be messed up for everyone might suffer a headache.
With more guests arriving, I asked my sister whether Fred could play with something quieter. She seemed a bit surprised but agreed, putting away the drum in a corner. Fred was unhappy and my sister spent most of the afternoon comforting him. I noticed they both were growing gradually uneasy, but I had to be busy being a host to everyone.
Before the party was over, my sister left with Fred, but I still didn’t think it was a big deal.
Days later, I sent a message to my sister and said they should come again. Her reply wasn’t a pleased one: “Are you joking? Forget it.” Obviously, she was upset about what had happened, but I thought she would eventually overcome it.
Then a month went by. My wife reminded me to contact my sister. I refused, thinking she could offer to take the step first. However, I felt guilty inside. I tried to start empathizing (共情) with my sister and realized things were difficult with Fred and she had to care for him alone since her husband had left them two years before.

I came to realize it was me who should say sorry. I had only cared about my own celebration and the comfort of other guests, completely ignoring Fred’s special needs and my sister’s feelings. For Fred, the drum was not just a toy but a source of security, especially in unfamiliar social situations. My sister had already been struggling to raise Fred alone, and my thoughtless request had only added to her pressure. I decided to make an apology sincerely and bought a soft, sound-making stuffed bear that Fred might like, hoping to make up for my mistake.
With the gift I chose for Fred, I arrived at my sister’s door. Nervous but determined, I knocked gently. When she opened the door, I immediately apologized for my selfishness at the party. I told her I truly understood how hard it was for her and Fred. Hearing my words, her anger softened. Fred held the bear tightly and smiled shyly. My sister thanked me, and the uncomfortable gap between us finally disappeared. That day, I learned that true kindness means understanding and respecting others’ differences.

With the rapid development of digital technology, various digital devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops have become a daily necessity for teenagers. A recent survey among 2,000 high school students in five major cities shows that over 70 percent of them spend more than three hours on digital devices after school. Most of their screen time goes to online games, short-video browsing and social media chatting, far exceeding the recommended one hour of daily screen time for adolescents.
This excessive use of digital devices has directly led to a sharp decline in teenagers’ physical activity. Ten years ago, nearly 70 percent of high school students took part in regular sports activities, but now the figure has dropped to 35 percent. Many teenagers choose to stay indoors with their devices rather than engage in outdoor exercises or physical games during their free time.
The negative impacts of this trend extend beyond physical health. Physically, long hours of screen watching easily causes poor eyesight and cervical discomfort. Mentally, fragmented online information reduces students’ ability to concentrate, making it hard for them to focus on long academic tasks like reading classic works or solving complex problems. Socially, they tend to prefer online communication over face-to-face talks, which weakens their real-life interaction skills and leaves some feeling lonely.
To address these issues, joint efforts from schools, parents and teenagers themselves are essential. Schools can offer more sports courses and organize regular outdoor activities. Parents should set good examples and make reasonable family rules to control their children’s screen time. Teenagers need to build self-discipline, balancing time spent on digital devices, study and exercise to form a healthy lifestyle.

The campus came alive when word spread quickly that the drama competition of this year was to be held the next month.
“Hey, Alex! Ready for this year’s show?” I asked Alex, who was standing in front of the notice board. “I guess I am!” replied Alex. The instant I offered my invitation to make a team, he nodded with a big OK. We exchanged glances and laughed.
The preparation was in full swing. Every day after school, Alex and I met in the drama room. We revised our script and shared our ideas about the plots and conflicts. Our drama teacher Ms. May greatly praised our imagination and creativity in the plot design. Our confidence increased and both of us felt that we would be the most shining stars on the stage.
Everything went well until it came to the ending part of the rehearsal (排演). I insisted on delivering the lines with wild joy, believing that it was more dramatic. Alex argued a tone of sadness out of desperation would be more powerful and realistic. We argued for what seemed like ages and the pleasant atmosphere gradually gave way to awkward tension. “You’re not listening to me!” Alex let out a cry of anger. “Your idea is stupid!” I fought back.
Silence fell. Alex threw down the script and stormed out of the drama room. I stood rooted, feeling a knot (郁结) in my stomach.
For the next two days, we avoided seeing each other. The play was at a standstill. The final show was only five days away. My anxiety grew and I came close to giving up. When Ms. May asked how our rehearsal went, I burst into tears. “It’s a total disaster to team up with Alex…” I poured out all my complaints. Ms. May flashed a comforting smile and patted me on the shoulder, “Let’s go for a walk in the school garden!”

I followed Ms. May into the school garden. The warm sunlight filtered through the leaves, and the gentle breeze calmed my anxious heart. Ms. May pointed to two mutually dependent osmanthus trees beside the path, saying, “Teamwork is like these two trees — they don’t have to be the same to grow well together. Listening to each other is more important than winning.” Her words hit me deeply. I realized my stubbornness had hurt Alex and ruined our hard work. I must apologize to him.
When I went back to the drama room, I saw a familiar figure. It was Alex, who was sitting quietly, revising the script with a pen in his hand. There were some notes on the ending part, mixing both our ideas. My eyes turned wet. I walked over gently and said softly, “Alex, I’m sorry. I was too stubborn and didn’t listen to you.” Alex looked up, his anger gone. He smiled and handed me the script. Together, we polished the ending, and the awkward tension turned back to warm laughter. We knew we would shine on the stage together.

Lucas had always believed that if he wanted something badly enough, he just had to try harder. That’s what everyone told him. “Just focus,” his teachers would say. “Put the phone down,” his parents would remind him. And Lucas really did try. But somehow, every time he sat down to study, his phone buzzed, and just like that, his good intentions went out the window.
In the evening before his history exam, Lucas promised himself he would finish two chapters without touching his phone. He placed it screen-up right next to his textbook, just to keep an eye on it. Ten minutes later, a notification lit up the screen. He picked it up for “just one minute,” but an hour later he was still scrolling through videos. His textbook hadn’t moved, his notes were blank, and he dropped his head onto the desk, defeated.
His older sister, Mia, found him like that and asked what was wrong. Lucas sighed that he had zero willpower and called himself a failure. Mia didn’t laugh. Instead, Mia sat down across from him. “You’re not a failure, Lucas. You’re just fighting the wrong battle.” She explained a study where researchers asked thousands of teenagers where they kept their phones while studying. Some kept them nearby, screen on, sound on; others put them in another room entirely.
When Mia asked who got better grades, Lucas guessed it was the ones who tried harder. But Mia shook her head. The ones who moved their phones away did better, she said, because physical distance creates psychological distance. Lucas didn’t need more willpower — he needed a better setup.
That night, Lucas decided to try something different. Before opening his textbook, he got up, walked to the living room, and dropped his phone into a drawer. He pushed the drawer shut and walked back to his desk.
For a moment, he just sat there. The room felt strangely quiet. No buzz. No glow. No pull. Just him and the history textbook. He took a deep breath and turned to the first page.

An hour later, Lucas rose and headed for the living room. Opening the drawer, he picked up his phone, its screen glowing with unread notifications. Just a quick look, he told himself, his thumb already reaching out. But then Mia’s words echoed in his mind — physical distance creates psychological distance. He froze, hand suspended mid-air. Slowly, as if breaking free from a spell, he put the phone back and pushed the drawer shut. Resolving silently not to check the phone but to throw himself entirely into his studies, he walked steadily toward his desk.
Sitting in the exam room the following day, Lucas felt strangely calm. He breathed slowly, and the usual flutter of panic was gone. No phone buzzed nearby. No screen glowed. For the first time, it was just him and the questions. A better setup functioned: physical distance creates psychological distance. He smiled slightly. Then he turned over the exam paper and began to write. And in that quiet, he understood: willpower isn’t about resisting temptation, but about not having to resist it at all. The best battle is the one you never have to fight.

(2026届山东省日照市4月三模高三模拟考试)Elara had long been well-known for her sympathy and willingness to reach out to the marginalized (边缘群体). On many weekends, she devoted her spare time to a local charity, assisting with the distribution of daily supplies and providing company to those living rough.
One bitterly cold evening in late January, a sharp wind swept through the streets. Passersby buried their chins in their scarves and hurried along, desperate to escape the bitter cold. As she passed an abandoned alley (小巷), Elara caught sight of a thin figure in the corner. It was a middle-aged woman, wrapped in a ragged blanket that hardly protected her from the freezing wind. Her cheeks were flushed with cold, and beside her lay only a few worn belongings. It was obvious that she had been homeless for a long time.
A surge of pity overwhelmed Elara. She thought of her warm home, the steaming meals prepared by her family, and the warm bed she had always taken for granted. In sharp contrast, this stranger had none of these comforts. “Are you okay?” she approached gently and asked. The woman lifted her head, her eyes clouded with weariness. “Just trying to get through the night,” she whispered. “And I’ve been wandering the streets for months, going hungry and struggling to survive the cold nights.”
Elara’s heart ached. “Wait here,” she said. She rushed to a nearby shop and used her savings to buy a cup of hot soup, a warm bread roll and a thick pair of gloves. Handing them over, she said, “This should warm you up a bit — take your time, it’s all yours.” The woman’s eyes watered with tears, her lower lip trembling slightly as she took the items. “Thank you, dear — you have no idea how much this means,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion.

But to Elara’s surprise, the woman did not rush to eat or drink. Instead, she struggled to her feet and limped deeper into the dark alley, holding the warm food tightly. Curious and concerned, Elara followed quietly and saw several other homeless figures crouched in the shadows — an elderly man, a young mother with a child. The woman knelt down and shared the bread and soup among them, her face lit with a warm kind smile. “We look after each other here,” she said softly. Seeing such extraordinary generosity from someone who had nothing, Elara stood frozen, tears welling up in her eyes.
Witnessing the woman’s selflessness, Elara decided to do more. She immediately pulled out her mobile phone and contacted the charity she worked for, proposing an emergency relief program for the homeless. With her colleagues’ support, she organized a weekend donation drive, calling on the community to donate blankets, warm clothes, and ready-to-eat meals. She also shared the woman’s story on social media, which touched thousands of hearts. Within a week, supplies flooded in, and volunteers lined up to help. Elara realized that one small act of kindness could inspire a wave of compassion powerful enough to change people’s lives.

(2026届江西赣州十八县市二十四校高三下学期期中联考)My grandmother’s hands were never still. I remember watching her sit by the window, holding tiny beads (珠子) and threads. With careful fingers, she would string them together, one by one, until they formed a small, beautiful charm. “This is not just a decoration,” she would say softly, “every bead holds a wish.”
I spent many afternoons beside her, sorting beads by color. She let me try stringing the beads together, but my threads always ended in a mess. I failed again and again, growing increasingly impatient. I frowned and gave up quickly, unwilling to practice any more. I did not understand why she worked so slowly and why every bead had to be just so. I put the threads and beads aside and never touched them again. To me, it was just playing with pretty things.
Time passed. I grew older and moved to the city. My grandmother worked alone. People no longer wanted handmade charms and bought shiny ones from shops. They were cheaper and looked more modern. I heard that my grandmother had stopped making them. She looked helpless and always felt down.
Then one winter, I came home and found her sitting in her old chair. The bead box was closed. Dust sat on the windowsill. She looked up and smiled, holding out her hand. In her hand lay a small and simple charm — a red bead with a silver thread. It was the first one I had ever made with her many years ago. I held it and felt something warm spread through my chest.
That night, I could not sleep. Memories of her warm hands and kind smiles filled my mind. I hated to see her beloved handcraft fade away as she grew old. I deeply wanted to carry on her skill but feared I was too clumsy to learn it. Torn between hope and worry, I finally calmed my heart. I realized love mattered more than anything else, so I decided I would ask Grandma to teach me again.

The next morning, I went to my grandmother’s room. She was sitting by the window, looking out quietly. I took a deep breath and said, “Grandma, I want to learn your craft again. Please teach me.” She looked surprised and could hardly believe her ears. She asked gently why I had changed my mind. I told her I truly wanted to learn her craft and carry on her wishes. Hearing my words, she breathed a long sigh of relief, with warm tears in her eyes. She smiled and gladly agreed to teach me.
For the next two weeks, I sat beside her every day to learn her craft. She showed me how to choose the right beads and knot the thread carefully. “You must be patient,” she said. “A charm made in a hurry brings no luck.” At first, I failed many times and my works were messy. But I never gave up. Grandma never blamed me; instead, she guided my hands patiently just like before. With continuous practice, I finally made a beautiful charm. She praised me and said it carried a sincere wish. I felt proud and happy that her precious skill could be passed down through me.

2. Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. → They surrounded me: I patiently answered their various questions about Chinese culture. → Through communication, we enhanced mutual understanding of different cultures. → I felt a sense of achievement from actively sharing culture, which deepened the positive impact brought by cultural exchange.

Kevin was pretty bored. His mother was at work, and his father had been away on business. Therefore, he was left in the care of Mrs. Hill, an old lady who lived next door. His parents had raised the 12-year-old to be a good boy. He never got into trouble, though sometimes he wanted to do risky things. Mrs. Hill was asleep. Kevin sighed (叹息) and hoped something exciting would happen. Suddenly, a movement outside caught his eye.
Mrs. Hill’s front window faced Mr. and Mrs. Green’s house across the street. The couple had both gone to work, so it was strange that someone was over there. Kevin stared at the man at their front door. Suddenly, the man jumped through an open window into the house. With his heart in his mouth, Kevin grabbed Mrs. Hill’s home phone and called the police.
Thinking that the man might get away with whatever he wanted before the police arrived, Kevin decided to do something. He rushed out of Mrs. Hill’s house and crossed the street quickly. Grabbing a branch from a cut-down tree, he jumped in through the window. “Stop right there! You must leave right now!” he called out, holding the branch with both hands.
The man froze for a second, but when he saw the skinny boy he breathed a sigh of relief. “Hey, kid, put that down. It was my home. My parents used to live here and my father’s watch was here,” he explained, trying to lift a floorboard.
At that moment, the sounds of a police car echoed (回响) in the air. The man stood up in a panic, then ran through the house toward the window and jumped out. Kevin followed out and told the arriving police officers what had happened. They pursued and arrested the man.
Kevin went back to Mrs. Hill’s house. Somehow he wasn’t sure he had done the right thing. “What if he has told the truth?” he thought to himself. The man’s words sounded pretty convincing.

(2026届贵州六校联盟高三年级4月高考实用性联考英语卷(三)Several years ago, my 80-year-old dad announced that he was determined to learn to use a smartphone. For years, he had turned a deaf ear to our persuasion, firmly insisting that elderly people should stick to old-fashioned things — like his old flip phone and paper notebooks. But everything changed overnight when his best friend showed him vivid photos of his grandchildren on a smartphone, laughing as he shared little stories behind each shot.
Far from being bored, Dad was so impressed that he made up his mind to catch up with the times, saying softly, “I want to record our family too.” His voice was gentle but firm.
We bought him a second-hand phone as a gift. Much to our amusement, he treated it like a precious textbook, his rough, weathered hands brushing the screen gently as if it were a fragile treasure. He would bury himself in the thick instruction book, taking careful notes with a pen and practicing how to type and unlock the screen again and again, even repeating simple gestures until his fingers grew tired and his eyes grew a little blurred. My family and I found it absolutely funny, yet a warm feeling filled our hearts at the sight of his sincere efforts.
One Sunday afternoon, a short message from Dad lit up my phone screen: “Come over immediately. I have a big surprise for you!” The words were typed a little crookedly, with a few typos, but I could feel his excitement through the screen.
When I stepped through the door, I noticed Dad standing in the living room, holding his phone carefully with both hands, his eyes sparkling with excitement and a touch of nervousness. “I’ve mastered taking photos today,” he announced in a proud voice, as if he had achieved a great victory. Then he handed me the phone with trembling fingers, his lips curved into a childlike smile.
I smiled, ready to praise him for his progress. But I could hardly help laughing at the sight before me.

(2025-2026学年甘肃武威市天祝藏族自治县九师联盟高三下学期4月期中)When my plane touched down in Guadalajara, Mexico, I got off with a plastic-bound conversational Spanish guide. The agency arranging the homestay for my college-level study abroad hadn’t been able to give me any details about the woman I would be living with for the next few months. So I searched the crowd to look for my mysterious hostess. I scanned the crowd, and then saw her, who looked to be nearly sixty, with strong fingers gripping a white piece of paper with my name scrawled (潦草地写) across it in black ink.
I moved toward the unsmiling woman. “League Aun?” she pointed to the sign and asked in a pronunciation that was new to me. “Yeah, Leigh Ann,” I replied. She nodded and let the sign drop to her side. She looked relieved, and I felt relieved that she suddenly had shown some warmth. She was, after all, the only person in Mexico who knew how to spell my name.
“Mi nombre Leigh Ann. Soy de los montañas de Carolina Del Norte.” My name is Leigh Ann. I’m from the mountains of North Carolina. That was the extent of my Spanish.
She nodded again. My name was the extent of her English. Then she began to speak Spanish, her words flowing faster than river rapids. I could tell she was trying to give me the information I needed to adjust to life in Guadalajara, but I couldn’t even remember how to say I didn’t understand.
The first few days I lived with Señora Montañas, my hostess, it was impossible to communicate even the simplest things. Another American student boarder who had just arrived, Katie, became my translator. When we returned after school, Señora asked about our days. First, she addressed Katie and then me. I simply smiled, but still she asked every day, as if she already knew that soon I would be able to answer.

Once there lived a girl named Melanie. The little girl was living with a dream. She wanted to be a ballet dancer. Her body was very flexible and she had a strong will power. Melanie’s parents never knew of the great dancing skills their daughter had until one day, they saw the little girl dancing with the beautiful steps of a ballerina.
“Isn’t it strange? Melanie is dancing so well without any formal training!” the mother said.
“We must give her ballet lessons to help her improve her skills,” her father said.
The following day, Melanie’s parents took her to a local dance training school. The teacher asked Melanie to dance. The little girl was happy and showed some of her favorite dance steps. However, the teacher didn’t seem interested in her performance.
“That’s OK. You can leave now!”the teacher said.
Melanie was shocked to hear this. So were her parents. They couldn’t believe their ears.
“The girl is common. She does not have the possibility to become a ballerina, ”the dance teacher said. “Don’t let her waste her time dreaming of becoming a dancer.”
Disappointed, Melanie and her parents returned home. Tears rolled down Melanie’s face. Her dreams were broken within a matter of minutes. Without confidence, Melanie never attempted to dance again. She completed her studies and went on to become a teacher in school.Life was good and she kept herself busy with family and work. Sitting on a chair to work on confusing math problems for two hours was a slow and painful process. During the process, I would fidget(坐立不安) and have many trips to the refrigerator in an attempt to get off that chair for at least five minutes.
During math tests, my teachers would always stay by my desk. My teachers and friends would frequently ask the question after tests,” How’s your math this time?" So I became extremely afraid of math. While normal people of my age were scared of some insects and adventurous travels, I feared anything to do with numbers. The thought of a teacher picking on me in class made me feel scared. The red marks on the test paper were also terrifying.
My fear of math got worse in ninth grade. Every report card I received from my new math teacher Ms Robbins had the comment to encourage me, "I'm glad to do what I can to help you.” But I couldn't tell her the real reason why I didn't ask for help-I didn’t want to be considered stupid. Every question I had was, in my opinion at the time, something that the whole class had understood but I. So instead, I ended up not caring about anything related to math, without working hard on math at all. And I concluded everything would work out in the end
Eventually, my classmates and I took the final test that would lead to our graduation from middle school and stepping into high school. Days after the exam-- on a rainy summer morning, Ms. Robbins called me.

With worry and uncertainty, I entered her office.

Listening to Grandma’s Childhood Stories
On a warm summer evening, the gentle wind carried the sweet scent of jasmine (茉莉花). I sat beside Grandma on the old wooden balcony, holding her warm, wrinkled hand, as the setting sun cast a golden glow over us. The old wooden swing swayed slowly. “Child, let me tell you about my childhood,” Grandma began, her voice soft with tender memories, patting my back gently.
She grew up in a small village with no fancy tools or modern entertainment. Every morning, she woke up early to help her parents tend the vegetable garden behind their house, growing tomatoes, cucumbers and green beans. Though tiring, it was rewarding to watch the young plants grow and bear fruit. Her father taught her how to tell when each vegetable was ready, and she would run back proudly with her small basket. In her free time, she played hide-and-seek with her brothers and sisters, often hiding in the hayloft (干草棚) of the farm building, where soft hay made a comfortable shelter. Once, she fell asleep there, waking only to her mother’s worried calls at dusk.
In winter, when snow covered the ground, they made sliding boards from old wooden boards and raced down the nearby hill, laughing excitedly. Her cheeks would burn red from the cold, but her heart felt warm. Her school was a small building at the village entrance, with all grades studying together under a kind teacher. She walked two miles each way, carrying her books in a cloth bag made by her mother, never missing a day. During festivals, the whole village gathered to share home-cooked dishes, music and laughter. The women exchanged cooking methods while the men played folk songs, and children danced until stars appeared. As Grandma finished, I leaned against her, feeling warm and grateful. These stories were our family’s precious legacy (传承), passing down love and courage. I thanked her softly, and Grandma kissed my forehead, saying they would guide me to a warmer world.

Lily, a senior student deeply in love with dancing, had been preparing carefully for a major provincial dance competition for a long time. It was a dream event for young dancers, and it would be the first time for her to step onto such a big stage. She regarded it as a great chance to show her years of practice and gain valuable experience. Therefore, she took every practice seriously and spared no effort to make herself better.
She buried herself in strict and persistent training every day. After school, she would rush to the dance studio immediately, repeating every gesture, every spin and every step again and again. She practiced even when her legs ached and she felt tired. Though the training was tough and boring, she never complained or thought about giving up. She always held the belief that hard work would finally pay off and that she would shine on the stage.
However, a month before the big event, a terrible accident completely changed everything. When she was practising a difficult and challenging jump, she lost her balance and fell heavily to the floor. Before she knew it, she had injured her ankle. The doctor’s words made her desperate: She had to rest for at least two months and was not allowed to do any intense exercise or dance training.
Hearing the result, Lily felt as if her whole world had fallen apart. She shut herself in her bedroom, feeling sad and hopeless. She refused to talk to her family or meet her friends. The dance poster on the wall, which once inspired her to keep going, only made her heart ache more.
Days passed, but she still remained in low spirits. She sat by the window silently, staring blankly outside. She began to doubt herself and wondered if she would ever be able to return to the stage. For the first time, she felt lost on her long road to her dream and could hardly see any hope in the future.

It was a cool August afternoon at Silver Strand Beach in a county of Ireland, with the sun sending soft golden light on the waves. Josh Collins, a 17-year-old boy, was having his holiday there with his younger brother Max and father Matthew. The three talked lazily as they walked along the shore, the salty wind brushing their cheeks.
Suddenly, a sharp, sad cry broke the soft sound of the waves. “Did you hear that?” Max held Josh’s arm, his eyes wide with worry. Matthew stopped, listening carefully, and then said, “It’s an animal, and it’s in danger.” Following the sound, they found a soft white sheep stuck on a tiny rocky ledge (暗礁), the rising tide (潮水) touching its feet, leaving it with no way to get away. Fear showed in the sheep’s eyes, and Josh’s heart grew tight — he knew they had to act quickly.
They quickly thought of ways to save it: climbing the slippery rocks might make them fall, and there were no ropes nearby to pull the sheep up. Swimming was the only choice, even though the seawater was cold and the currents were strong. Without thinking twice, Josh took off his shoes and shirt, his determination showing in his eyes. Matthew took out his phone to record, while Max and a nearby beach visitor stood on the shore, shouting encouragement, their voices warm and comforting.
Every person watching held their breath, looking on anxiously as Josh swam toward the ledge. The cold seawater hurt his skin, and the rough waves pushed him back again and again, but he kept going. After a tense fight, he finally reached the sheep, which huddled (蜷缩) tightly on the tiny ledge, shaking with fear. Josh gently held out his hand to calm it, but just as he took hold of its wool, a big wave hit them, sweeping both him and the sheep into the water.

It snowed heavily last night, covering everything in a thick white blanket. While most people were still asleep, 13-year-old Michel was already outside, dressed in his winter coat, boots crunching on the ice, shovel (铲子) in hand. He wasn’t doing it for money. He simply remembered that the year before, Mrs. Garnier — his 84-year-old neighbor — had fallen while trying to get her mail during a snowstorm, because her driveway hadn’t been cleared. So this year, Michel decided to prevent that happening again. Without being asked, he spent over an hour clearing her steps, driveway, and sidewalk. Once he finished, he quietly went back home, not expecting her to even notice.
But the next morning, he found a box on the porch (门廊). Inside there was a freshly baked banana bread, a handwritten note, and a neatly folded envelope.
The note read:
Dear Michel,
I saw the path you carved in the snow. I cried as I watched you from the window — not because of the snow, but because, for the first time in a long time, I felt seen. Since my husband passed away five years ago, no one has helped me shovel snow. You gave me more than safety. You gave me comfort. Please accept this small gesture from me.
With affection,
Mrs. Garnier
In the envelope were a $20 bill and an old photo of her husband standing next to a young Michel — just five years old — helping him push a snowblower.
Michel’s eyes welled up. He sat on the porch steps, the photo trembling slightly in his gloved hands. He stared at the image — his five-year-old self, grinning widely, small hands resting on the handle of Mr. Garnier’s old snowblower. He had almost forgotten that day. But Mrs. Garnier had kept it, like a treasure, for eight years.
He folded the note carefully, placed it back in the box, and carried everything inside. That afternoon, he knocked on Mrs. Garnier’s door. She opened it slowly, her face lighting up when she saw him.

我们可以这样结尾“He never forgot the help from the Meredith family, and he also did what he could to help those in need.”
例:2021年新高考全国Ⅰ卷的读后续写首句是“The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother’s Day.”我们在结尾时可以用孩子们的愿望得以实现来呼应首句,以“How excited they were when they found they could do something for their mother!”
