Today, science is an interesting and simple subject. We can find it in our lives. Next week, our school will start an activity to explore the science behind life.
Part 1① You climb up the slide and sit down.
You are ready to go. Are you sliding down? No, not yet. Things stay still unless something makes them ______. It is Newton’s first law. So you have to give yourself a push to start the journey down.
② Now you are sliding down.
Do you feel you are slowing down a bit? When two things rub (摩擦) against each other, they cause friction (摩擦力). Without friction, you will slide down faster and faster to the bottom. That is fun, but dangerous.
③ At the bottom of the slide, you come to a full stop.
Your feet touch the ground and add extra friction. Newton’s first law also says moving things keep moving unless something makes them stop. If you do not use your feet, you’ll fly off the slide.
Part 2

How to put an egg into a small bottle?

“Mirror (镜子), mirror on the wall, what will I look like in ten years? Will I look pretty if I eat junk food and don’t exercise?”
To get the answer, you might need a special mirror. French scientists invented one. In this mirror, you can never see what you look like today. What you see is what you’ll look like in the future. The mirror is unusual, although it looks just like the one in your bathroom.
Martin said that it had a camera inside to take your pictures. Just stand in front of the mirror, and it will work. “You also need to tell the mirror what you eat and how you exercise. In this way you put your information into the tape inside the mirror. After a few minutes, the special software in it will produce a future vision (形象) of you on the mirror.”
What will bad habits bring you five or ten years from now? This mirror may just show you. If you don’t want it to become true, give up your bad habits right now!
With the development of technology, there will be more inventions like the special mirror. Maybe a map will show you where you will live and work. And a clock will tell you how long you will live in this world. But I still believe that you decide your future by yourself. Take action now and make a better future!
19. Who would most like to use the mirror according to the passage?
A. A man who is already thin. B. Someone who wants to shape the future.
C. A person who wants to lose weight. D. A person who refuses to change in the future.

I think everyone has something they don’t like about themselves. For me, it was the birthmark (胎记) on my face. It was bright red, the colour of a strawberry.
Sometimes, I felt people were secretly looking at my face. But when I turned my head, they looked away. On crowded buses and trains, it felt just like a disaster. With so many people around me, my birthmark burned red hot. Therefore, I always kept my hair long to cover it until that day.
It was a cloudy morning. A new student named Maddie arrived in our class. She sat right beside me. Instead of looking away, Maddie studied my face. This made me so nervous. Clouds came through the window and filled my heart. Suddenly, she said something I would never forget.
“Sally, right?” she said. “You have a red rose on your face. How beautiful!”
I looked up and met her smiling eyes. ________ Although I only replied “thank you”, it turned sunny in my heart. When I got home, I rushed to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. For the first time, I could look at my birthmark without quickly turning away. The shape of it was really like a flower. The next day, to my surprise, Maddie painted a red rose on her own face!
I haven’t told Maddie the whole story yet. Anyway, she has changed me. I have already learnt that I am what I am. Everyone has something special and different—that is what’s interesting.
22. Why did the writer feel nervous when Maddie studied her face?
A. Because she didn’t like Maddie. B. Because Maddie was unfriendly.

One of the best parts of autumn is its beautiful colors. Normally, green leaves turn into orange, yellow, red and finally brown. This is called “leaf phenology” (叶片物候学), and many people look forward to it every year.
However, because of climate change, this beautiful process is changing. A study this year shows that the length of the autumn season is changing. Leaves are taking longer to change color than before. Moreover, climate change is influencing the season in another way. Trees now hold onto their leaves longer, meaning they drop them much later than they did 20 years ago.
According to Dr. Mann, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, climate change not only makes leaves change color later, but also postpones the first frosts (霜冻) of the season. “That means pests (害虫) stay active for a longer time in autumn,” he said, “leading to a greater health risk to human beings.”
These changes break the balance of autumn’s living systems. For example, some birds may miss the best time to fly south, and some animals cannot get ready well for winter. This puts many kinds of living things in danger, especially their ability to keep safe and have babies.
Is there any hope? Dr. Mann points out that if humans take action to limit carbon emissions (限制碳排放), we could still slow down or even stop the worst influences of climate change on autumn. Autumn is a wonderful gift of nature. The beautiful autumn we protect today may be the sweet memory we will have tomorrow.
27. What does this year’s study tell us about autumn?
A. Climate change has made autumn shorter.
B. Trees drop their leaves earlier than 20 years ago.
C. Leaves now take more time to change their colors.
D. Autumn is becoming a more popular season than before.
28. What does the underlined word “postpones” probably mean?
A. Speeds up. B. Puts off. C. Fights against. D. Prepares for.
29. How does the writer explain the influence of climate change in Paragraph 4?
A. By describing scenes. B. By listing numbers. C. By asking questions. D. By giving examples.
30. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Good Memories of Autumn B. How to Protect Animals in Autumn
C. Climate Change’s Influence on Autumn D. The Beautiful Colors of Autumn Leaves

“Lift the dragon’s head! Stay together! Hold your position!” The captain’s voice was loud. The golden dragon shone under the lanterns. The crowd cheered, but I could only hear my own heart beat so fast, waiting for the order from the captain to start. It was during the Spring Festival, and I was about to perform my first dragon dance.
Weeks ago, I never imagined being part of this tradition. As an American in China, I had always admired the dragon dance from afar. When I was invited to join the team, I excitedly accepted, thinking it would be easy and fun. However, from the first practice, I realized it was much harder than I expected.
The dragon dance needed strength, rhythm, and teamwork. If one person was off, the whole dragon looked awful. The dragon was heavier than I thought, and after minutes of lifting, my arms ached. My legs burned from all the jumping, and I kept stepping out of sync (不同步). Watching my teammates move smoothly, I felt discouraged (泄气) and even considered giving up. But I reminded myself why I had joined—to experience Chinese culture. I kept practicing, learning to feel the rhythm instead of just copying the steps. Slowly, I improved.
Now, the real performance had begun. I listened carefully to the captain’s orders and moved with the beat. The dragon rose and fell, just like the real one. Then came the hardest move—the “Flying Dragon Jump.” I took a deep breath and lifted the dragon as high as I could. It flew through the air and landed smoothly. The crowd cheered loudly.
After the performance, I was breathing hard, and sweat (汗水) covered my face. But as I looked around at the glowing lanterns, my smiling teammates, and the joyful crowd, I felt very proud. I had worked hard, and it had paid off. More than that, I had truly become part of something special.

后文Minnie在车上问他为什么没去选拔,且后文提到she had pushed the “stop” button和the bus driver stopped,说明他在公交车上,应用bus。
got on“上车”方向相反,got into“进入”和got up“起床”不符。
根据上下文,他通过啦啦队认识了很多人,through“通过”符合,原文依据为because of it和met so many wonderful people,说明是通过啦啦队这个途径,应用through。before“之前”、over“超过”和across“穿过”不符。

D. A person who refuses to change in the future.

a. tell the mirror your information

After a few minutes, the special software in it will produce a future vision of you on the mirror”,使用镜子的正确顺序是:先站在镜子前(c)→再告诉镜子你的饮食、运动信息(a)→最后生成你的未来形象(b),顺序为c-a-b。

C. Because Maddie was a new student. D. Because she feared Maddie would laugh at her.
23. Which of the following sentences can be put in “________”?
A. I started to study her face too. B. Her words really touched me.
C. She looked less pretty than me. D. I felt very angry at that moment.
24. How did the writer’s feelings change from the beginning to the end?
A. Nervous→Angry→Warm→Thankful B. Nervous→Warm→Surprised→Thankful
C. Uncomfortable→Excited→Happy→Thankful D. Uncomfortable→Happy→Excited→Thankful
25. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce a new friend. B. To describe a beautiful face.
C. To explain how to make friends. D. To share a growth experience.
26. What might happen next?
A. Maddie will lose her old friends. B. The classmates will laugh at Sally.
C. Sally will paint with Maddie together. D. Sally will be relaxed about her birthmark.
D 23. B 24. B 25. D 26. D
第2段提到“For me, it was the birthmark on my face…I always kept my hair long to cover it”,说明作者因胎记自卑、害怕被嘲笑,可知当Maddie盯着她的脸看时,她感到紧张是因为她害怕Maddie会嘲笑她的胎记。
空格后的句子:“Although I only replied ‘thank you’, it turned sunny in my heart.”
开头作者因胎记“felt people were secretly looking at my face”而不安;Maddie赞美后“it turned sunny in my heart”(温暖);看到Maddie“painted a red rose on her own face”时“to my surprise”(惊讶);最后“she has changed me”(感激),情绪变化是“Uncomfortable→Warm→Surprised→Thankful”。
文章结尾提到“I have already learnt that I am what I am”,核心是分享从自卑到接纳自己的成长经历。
文中提到“For the first time, I could look at my birthmark without quickly turning away”,说明作者已接纳胎记,明白每个人都有独特之处,可推知接下来作者会坦然面对胎记,不再为胎记自卑,会对胎记感到放松自在。

C 28. B 29. D 30. C
