People in many countries miss the “good old days”. When asked if life today is better than 50 years ago, 31% of British people, 41% of Americans and 46% of French people say it is worse.
But were the good old days really good? An American named Jason Feifer asked this question. Many people thought America was great in the 1950s, but historians said no. In the 1950s, there were serious racial problems against Black people, and everyone feared nuclear war with other countries.
In fact, people have missed the good old days for at least 5,000 years. Why? For one thing, we know that we went through dangers, but we are not sure about solving today’s problems. For another, people’s love for the past comes from their own life experiences. A US study found people love the time when they were young most.
Certainly, some things were better in the past. But our love for the good old days can mislead us. It may stop new changes that push the world forward. For example, vaccines, steam engines and electricity all met strong public disagreement when they first appeared. Today we also have mixed feelings about new things like Red Book or Douyin. Not all fears about the future are wrong. New technologies can cause problems. But the best way to use new technologies and lower risks is to keep trying. The future will not be perfect but ▲ .
52. Why does the writer show those numbers in the beginning?
A. To explain why people miss the good old days a lot.
B. To lead into the idea that today is worse than the past.
C. To support that many people miss the good old days.
D. To show the difference between today and old days.
53. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Humans are usually afraid of being uncertain.
B. America only had problems from the outside.
C. People’s love for the past is about experiences.
D. People aren’t able to solve today’s problems.
54. How did people feel about electricity when it first appeared?
A. Excited. B. Unfriendly. C. Thankful. D. Interested.
55. Which of the following is the best for “ ▲ ”?
A. let’s remember the good old days B. we should keep looking forward
C. bring more chances to young people D. make people forget past experiences

Most of us see the Sun as a friend. It helps plants grow, keeps us warm, and who doesn’t love lying on the beach on a sunny day? But even though the Sun is good for us in many ways, too much of it can hurt our skin. That’s why people invented sunscreen (防晒霜) to protect ourselves.
Sunscreen works to block the Sun’s UV rays. These rays are harmful — they can cause sunburn, make our skin age faster, and even lead to skin cancer. There are two main types of UV rays: UVB and UVA. UVB rays are the ones that burn our skin, while UVA rays are more likely to age our skin and be harmful to our cells.
There are two main kinds of sunscreen. Physical blockers (防护), like zinc oxide, act as a barrier to reflect UV rays. You may have seen lifeguards with white cream on their noses — that’s this type. They used to leave obvious white marks (标记), but new products can almost hide the white marks. Chemical blockers, on the other hand, take in UV rays but wear off faster. There might be some terrible influences from their chemicals to people.
All sunscreens have an SPF number, which tells us how well they protect us from UVB rays and sunburn.
Even if you don’t get sunburned easily, you still need sunscreen. People with darker skin or those who tan (晒黑) easily have some natural protection, but they can still be hurt by UVA rays. Babies under 6 months old should stay out of the sun completely, as their skin is too delicate.
Wearing sunscreen helps prevent skin cancer. UV rays do harm to the DNA in our cells, which can make cells grow out of control. This damage (伤害) can’t be seen until it’s too late.
Sun damage also causes early aging, making skin saggy. Remember, car windows block UVB but not UVA rays.
Use sunscreen daily. Reuse it every 2-3 hours when outdoors, especially at the beach or in snow. Stay in the shade and avoid the sun from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m.
The best sunscreen works for both UVA and UVB, SPF 30 or higher, and is water-resistant. Spray sunscreen needs several coats to work well. Enjoy the sun, but always wear sunscreen.
56. What can we compare physical blockers and chemical blockers to?
A. ①② B. ③④ C. ①④ D. ②③
57. Which is true according to the passage?
A. We can use sunscreen once a day in different situations.
B. We need two kinds of sunscreen to block the UV rays.
C. People with natural protection don’t need to use sunscreen.
D. People with sunscreen look younger than those without it.
58. Which word in the passage has the meaning opposite to “saggy”?
A. harmful B. obvious C. delicate D. darker
59. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Ways to Protect Our Skin B. The Importance of Using Sunscreen

In recent years, Chongqing has made great progress in rural revitalization (乡村振兴). A lot of young people have returned to their hometowns to start businesses. Here are what some people say about the changes.
Chen Wei, a young villager
After graduating from university, I returned home and found local food like hot po t bases and Chongqing noodles were very popular in cities. So I opened an online shop to sell them. With hard work, my income doubled in two years. I was not the only one to get rich. I also taught other villagers how to sell things online, helping many families make more money.
Grandpa Li, an old villager
Years ago, it was really troublesome for our villagers to go out because the roads were narrow and dirty. The trip to the city used to be long and tiring. Now things are totally different. Wide and clean roads connect the village with the city. There are more public buses running every day. It takes only two hours to get to the city center, which used to take more than four hours. It is now very convenient for us to go shopping or see a doctor.
Wang Fang, a village official
The government has put forward many effective measures (措施) to beautify rural areas. It provides free tree and flower seedlings for local villagers to plant. To boost rural tourism, the village has perfected basic public services and built nice homestays (民宿). We hold flower-watching festivals and fruit-picking festivals all year round, attracting many city visitors to enjoy natural scenery and experience farm life. With more trees and flowers planted, the air turns fresh and the rivers become clean.

Many people may think of planning as a boring thing. But as the saying goes, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”
In fact, we all do planning in one way or another and enjoy the benefits (好处) of it in our daily lives, even if we don’t realize it. A great example of this is when we plan our holidays. Planning helps us remember what to do and where to go before we leave. By planning ahead, we can avoid crowds and visit places of natural beauty at a better time.
Planning is also widely used for managing a personal budget. By making a spending plan, we can regularly check our finances (财力) and stop ourselves from wasting money on unnecessary things. This helps us save money and achieve both big dreams (like foreign travel) and small wishes (like weekly snacks).
For some people, planning has become an important part of life. Whether it’s for studying, working or achieving personal dreams, a good plan helps us use time wisely and avoid mistakes. Besides, having a plan enables us to deal with variables (变数), which can reduce stress compared to not having a plan at all.
Now you see why planning is so important! To get started, you can write down your goals, break them into easier-to-achieve parts, and then start planning how to make them come true. Little by little, your plans will turn your big dreams into real-life achievements!
Many people think planning is boring. However, the writer thinks that 74 , because it brings us many advantages. Firstly, it helps us to improve daily life like 75 and manage money. What’s more, it helps us avoid time waste and mistakes and face changes. This makes us feel 76 . If we make simple plans and work little by little, 77 .
