Thankfully, a kind shop owner saw me and asked me to stay in his shop. He gave me a cup of hot tea. I stayed there until the typhoon passed. When I finally got home, I was safe but very tired.
It was an unlucky day, but I was lucky to meet such a kind person.
Yours,
Li Hua

To allow the boy to continue his studies, his mother borrowed money, and his elder brother and younger sister both gave up schooling.
In 2021, Zhou and six childhood friends raised (筹集) more than 80,000 yuan ($11,730). They turned Zhou's old 240-square-meter house into a library, named Siyuan Library. Village children could study and read there.
“To improve the cultural climate (氛围), education is key, and building a library could be an important step forward,” Zhou wrote in his WeChat public account.“It should be a cultural space that can provide a wider spiritual world for children to develop their confidence and enrich their knowledge, instead of a space for kids to finish their homework,” Zhou said.
Zhou’s 70-year-old father manages the library as a volunteer. He organizes books, creating reading lists and guiding children. Over five years, the library has collected more than 20,000 books, from children's picture books to classics (经典).
Gradually, Zhou has seen the library grow into a popular learning place. In the beginning, bad habits such as littering were common. But he said that the library was meant to teach not only knowledge, but also good habits.
He plans to open two or three more libraries in other villages, using the same ideas—the libraries should benefit the local people, and they should always be free.

A. He didn't like studying at all.
B. His family was too poor to support him.
C. His brother and sister didn't allow him to study.

B. He is old but willing to do volunteer work.
C. He doesn't care about village children's study.
D. He has collected 80,000 books for the library.

There are some differences between Western countries and China when it comes to inviting guests for dinner.
In China, the host always pays for the whole meal. It is very common for friends to fight over who will pay the bill, because treating others is seen as a symbol of respect and friendship. When eating, the host often puts food onto the guests' plates to show they care. Chinese people usually book a private (私人的) room for important dinners.
However, in Western countries, things are totally different. Let's look at a few examples. In the United States, if friends eat out together, they often “go Dutch”. This means each person pays for their own food. It is not rude – just normal. In the United Kingdom, people have a different custom at pubs (酒吧). They like “buying a round”. One person buys drinks for everyone at the table. Then the next person buys the next round. This is a way to be friendly and fair (公平的). In France, it depends on the invitation. If someone formally invites you to a restaurant, the host pays for everything. But if you just meet a friend for coffee, each person usually pays for their own drink.
In China, paying for others shows warmth and closeness. In the US and France, sharing the cost shows fairness and independence. In the UK, buying rounds builds friendship step by step. None of these ways is wrong – they are just different customs.
56. In China, why do friends sometimes fight over paying the bill?
A. Because they don’t want to be polite.
B. Because treating others shows respect and friendship.
C. Because the food is too expensive.
D. Because they want to eat in a private room.
57. What does “go Dutch” mean in the United States?
A. The host pays for the whole meal.
B. Everyone buys a round of drinks.
C. Everyone pays for themselves.
D. Friends fight over the bill.
58. In the United Kingdom, what do people often do at pubs to be friendly and fair?
A. They buy a round of drinks for everyone in turn.
B. They let the host pay for everything.
C. They go Dutch.
D. They put food onto others’ plates.
59. In France, if someone formally invites you to a restaurant, who pays?
A. Each person pays for their own drink.
B. The person who invites pays for everything.
C. Friends take turns paying.
D. The guest pays for the host.
60. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Chinese people are richer than Westerners.
B. Paying for meals is the same in all countries.
C. It is rude to go Dutch in Western countries.
D. Different countries have different customs when inviting guests for dinner.

In April 2026, during the Water-Splashing Festival in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, as well as in Thailand, some bad and harmful things happened. Some people used high-pressure water guns to spray (喷射) at others on purpose, while some impolite men bothered young women. The festival is originally a meaningful local custom to drive away bad luck and welcome the new year, but some people celebrate it in wrong ways and hurt people just for fun.
In fact, the Water-Splashing Festival is a special traditional celebration shared by Thailand and the Dai people in Xishuangbanna, an autonomous prefecture of China. It comes from ancient Buddhist (佛教) culture. As Buddhism spread across Asia, the custom of splashing water gradually entered Southeast Asia and later reached Yunnan. That is why the two places have such similar festival traditions, including the timing, the use of clean water, and the belief in washing away bad luck.
Both Thailand and Xishuangbanna celebrate it in mid-April. People splash water to express good wishes for the new year. Although their celebrations have small differences—such as the length of the holiday, local music, or traditional dances—their cultural roots are closely connected (相连). This festival shows the friendly cultural bond between China and Thailand. In recent years, officials from both countries have even worked together to promote it as a shared cultural treasure.
Therefore, we should keep its original spirit alive and celebrate it in a polite, respectful way, not as an excuse for wild or harmful behavior (行为). Only by doing so can this beautiful tradition continue to bring happiness and health to everyone.
61. What happened during the Water-Splashing Festival in April 2026?
A. People celebrated it in a polite and traditional way.
B. The festival was canceled because of bad behavior.
C. Some people used high-pressure water guns and harassed women.
D. Everyone followed the custom of blessing others.
62. Where is Xishuangbanna?
A. In Thailand. B. In India. C. In Yunnan, China. D. In Southeast Asia.
63. Why do Thailand and Xishuangbanna have similar Water-Splashing Festival traditions?
A. Because they both celebrate New Year in April.
B. Because the festival comes from ancient Buddhist culture that spread across Asia.
C. Because they decided to create the same festival together.
D. Because they learned from each other recently.
64. What is the correct way to celebrate the Water-Splashing Festival according to the passage?
A. Use high-pressure water guns to spray strangers.
B. Harass young women for fun.
C. Splash water in a polite and respectful way to express good wishes.
D. Stop celebrating it to avoid problems.
65. What is the writer's purpose in the last paragraph?
A. To ask people to celebrate the Water-Splashing Festival in a proper way.
B. To describe the differences between Chinese and Thai festivals.
C. To explain why the Water-Splashing Festival should be celebrated.
D. To teach people how to make high-pressure water guns.
【答案】61-65 C C B C A
【详解】
61.根据第一段“Some people used high-pressure water guns to spray at others on purpose, while some impolite men bothered young women.”可知,2026年泼水节期间有人用高压水枪喷人,还有不礼貌的男子骚扰年轻女性,故选C。
62.根据第二段“the Water-Splashing Festival is a special traditional celebration shared by Thailand and the Dai people in Xishuangbanna, an autonomous prefecture of China”可知,西双版纳位于中国云南,故选C。
63.根据第二段“It comes from ancient Buddhist culture. As Buddhism spread across Asia, the custom of splashing water gradually entered Southeast Asia and later reached Yunnan.”可知,泰国和西双版纳泼水节传统相似是因为该节日源自古代佛教文化,随着佛教在亚洲传播而扩散,故选B。
64.根据最后一段“we should keep its original spirit alive and celebrate it in a polite, respectful way”以及前文对泼水节本意的介绍(表达美好祝愿、驱除厄运)可知,正确的庆祝方式是用礼貌、尊重的方式泼水以表达祝福,故选C。
65.根据最后一段“we should keep its original spirit alive and celebrate it in a polite, respectful way... Only by doing so can this beautiful tradition continue...”可知,作者写最后一段的目的是呼吁人们以正确、恰当的方式庆祝泼水节,故选A。

Dear Peter,
Thank you for caring about me. What happened last Saturday was really unforgettable.
I went to the library to borrow some books in the morning. While I was walking home, a strong typhoon suddenly hit my town. The wind was blowing so hard that trees began to fall down. When I was crossing a street, a big branch nearly hit me. I was scared and didn’t know what to do.
Thankfully, a kind shop owner saw me and asked me to stay in his shop. He gave me a cup of hot tea. I stayed there until the typhoon passed. When I finally got home, I was safe but very tired.
It was an unlucky day, but I was lucky to meet such a kind person.
Yours,
Li Hua
【详解】
一、先读懂题目要求(审题)
拿到作文题,先圈出关键词:
上周六外出遭遇了台风天
“不幸又幸运”的一天
内容包括:外出目的 + 发生什么事 + 感受
必用词汇:typhoon, when, while, thankfully
二、确定全文结构(谋篇)
题目要求写“不幸又幸运”,最合适的结构是三段式:
第1段 引出事件(背景) I went to the library...
第2段 详细经过(不幸+幸运) typhoon hit → branch nearly hit me → shop owner helped
第3段 感受+总结 It was unlucky but lucky...
三、逐句拆解范文的写作思路
第一段:写“出门目的 + 天气/背景”
I went to the library to borrow some books in the morning.
思路:题目要求写“外出目的”,最简单就是去图书馆/商店/朋友家。
先回答“去哪里 + 干什么”
While I was walking home, a strong typhoon suddenly hit my town.
思路:题目要求用 while,就用 while + 过去进行时 表示“正在做某事时突然发生另一件事”。
while + 正在做的事 + 突发的事
第二段:写“不幸的事 + 幸运的事”
The wind was blowing so hard that trees began to fall down.
思路:描写台风有多大,用 “so + 形容词 + that ...” 增强画面感。
用细节让读者感受到“危险”
When I was crossing a street, a big branch nearly hit me.
思路:题目要求用 when,用 when + 过去进行时 表示“正在过马路时差点被砸”。
不幸 = 差一点发生坏事
I was scared and didn’t know what to do.
思路:题目要求写“感受”,直接写出当时的情绪(scared / worried / nervous)。
感受词要简单直接
Thankfully, a kind shop owner saw me and asked me to stay in his shop. He gave me a cup of hot tea. I stayed there until the typhoon passed. When I finally got home, I was safe but very tired.
思路:
Thankfully
It was an unlucky day, but I was lucky to meet such a kind person.
思路:用 “unlucky... but lucky...” 直接点题,呼应题目“不幸又幸运”。

In 1995, Zhou Qinggui was a 10-year-old boy from a village in Linyi, Shandong Province. He was expected to drop out of school after primary school because his family was poor. Zhou was upset.
51. Why did Zhou Qinggui almost drop out of school in 1995?
A. He didn't like studying at all.
B. His family was too poor to support him.
C. His brother and sister didn't allow him to study.
D. He wanted to help his family make money.

A. He is paid much money to run the library.
B. He is old but willing to do volunteer work.
C. He doesn't care about village children's study.
D. He has collected 80,000 books for the library.
55. What is Zhou's future plan?
A. Build more free libraries for villagers.
B. Close Siyuan Library soon.
C. Make the library a paid reading space.
D. Ask his friends to raise more money for his family.

D

In 1995, Zhou Qinggui was a 10-year-old boy from a village in Linyi, Shandong Province. He was expected to drop out of school after primary school because his family was poor. Zhou was upset.
