That was when my brother bernard and I got our pocket money from our father. I would put half of IT in my money box and run off happily with the rest to bar lets the little local shop at the end of our street. There I would join the other boys and girls eager to spend their saturday pocket money. All mr. Bartley had were a few things arranged on a simple wooden shelf, which he kept under the counter and brought out for the children on saturday. But to us, IT was a wonderful site. Sugar balls, sweets and brightly coloured paper IT always took ages for each child to decide what to buy, but mrs. Barton didn't mind as long as there were no grown up customers waiting to be served. SHE, let us take our time. Bernard liked sweets. The problem was that he didn't like buying them. He went to the news agents shop that sold football cards. He was mad about these picture cards of famous football lers and spent all his pocket money trying to collect whole teams of players. On saturday afternoons, he would search the house and find out where I was. If I didn't hide my bag of sweets quickly enough, he'd see IT and say, can I have one? And I would say, why should I give you one? You had your pocket money too. You could have bought your own sweets. Then bernard would go to our mother to complain. Mom would say, jim, don't be so mean. Share your sweets with your brother. I thought this was really unfair, but I had no choice. Well, i'd like to share with you my childhood experience. If you want to know more about paintings which are famous worldwide, here are four you can’t miss.
The Kiss
Artist: Gustav Klimt
Estimated date:1907 to 1908
From Klimt’s work, Byzantine artistic influences can be seen in the highly decorative robes (长袍) worn by the passionate, life-sized couple. The museum says that with The Kiss, Klimt makes a unique statement about love being at the heart of human existence.
Guernica
Artist: Pablo Picasso
Date: 1937
This is the most recent painting on this list, and it shows the German bombing of the town of Guernica in the Basque region during the Spanish Civil War. The painting has that distinctive Picasso style, and its serious examination of the horrors of war made it an essential part of the 20th century culture and history.
The Birth of Venus
Artist: Sandro Botticelli
Estimated date:1485
It was probably created by a member of the wealthy and art-loving Medici family, which ruled Florence and nearby areas for centuries. Marrying a renewed interest in classic Greek culture with Early Renaissance style,Botticelli creates an unforgettable figure with the Goddess of Love emerging from a huge seashell.
Girl With a Pearl Earring
Artist:Johannes Vermeer
Estimated date:1665
This fantastic favorite often gets compared with the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. Besides the stylistic differences, technically Girl With a Pearl Earring isn’t even a portrait(肖像),but a“tronie”—a Dutch word for a painting of an imaginary figure with impressive features. The oil on the masterpiece is brilliant in its simplicity. The girl—wearing a blue and gold turban(头巾)and an oversized pearl earring—is the entire focus with only a dark backdrop behind her.
21. Who is the creator of The Kiss?
A. Leonardo da Vinci. B. Sandro Botticelli.
C. Johannes Vermeer. D. Gustav Klimt.
22. What is the painting by Pablo Picasso about?
A. A cruel war. B. A happy couple. C. A royal family. D. A lovely girl.
23. Of the following works, which is the oldest?

When Amanda Rulton picked up a cheap coloring book and some felt-tip pens, she didn’t expect the activity to stick. It came when she was in the middle of a health crisis. Eighteen months ago, she had an infection and was rushed into emergency surgery twice, followed by numerous hospital stays. “My mental health has completely collapsed,” said Rulton, 28, from Liverpool, in the UK. “I can’t do the hobbies I once enjoyed, so having time to sit and be present in something that isn’t effortful has been really helpful.”
For Rulton, coloring turned into a daily routine. She began posting “color with me” videos to her TikTok account, many of which belong to what TikTok users call “cozy coloring”—pages with thick outlines and soft themes, designed for slow, low-pressure evenings.
The “cozy coloring” has recently dominated adult coloring charts—simple line art with large shapes meant for quick, relaxing fills. “When I first started, my focus was on kids and teenagers,” a London-based illustrator Miss Kitsch said, “but now the majority of my audience is adults, so I like to think of my books as a way to tend to the inner child within all of us.” She believes the nostalgia (怀旧) is powerful: “It’s not only a way to unwind after a busy day for adults, but also a chance to reconnect with creativity they may not have explored since childhood.”
Girija Kaimal, professor of the Creative Arts Therapies at Drexel University, thinks coloring’s appeal runs deeper than that. “We were hunter-gatherers. We worked with our hands and used all our senses. Coloring takes us back there,” she noted. As for why it feels rewarding, “by the end of it, you have something colorful,” she explained. “In nature, when you see color, it usually implies richness.”
She added that this kind of activity “lets people play again.” “Skill doesn’t matter; we are allowed to play as adults, however silly,” she said.
24. Why did Rulton take up coloring?
A. To recover from her physical injuries.
B. To manage her emotional well-being.
C. To prepare herself to be a TikTok creator.
D. To replace her previous effortless hobbies.
25. What is the key feature of “cozy coloring” on TikTok?
A. Digital and interactive.
B. Demanding and rewarding.
C. Recreational and systematic.
D. Straightforward and comforting.
26. What benefit does Kitsch believe her coloring books bring to adults?
A. Regaining a creative self.
B. Relating to their children.
C. Achieving good artistic taste.
D. Uncovering unknown fields.
27. What do Kaimal’s words suggest about coloring?
A. It evolves significantly over time.
B. It fulfills a fundamental human need.
C. It conveys different symbolic meanings.
D. It presents the early ancient ways of life.

Facing intense competition for foods, sea otters (海獭) survive with the help of tools — like rocks and even glass bottles — that let them break open tougher prey (猎物) that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to eat.
That’s according to a new study of sea otters in Monterey Bay, California, which took a look at the tool use of individual otters. The findings reveal how this may increase their chances of survival in an uncertain world. Sea otters spend their days looking around for food in kelp (海草) forests. They dive to the bottom to grab tasty food, plus sometimes rocks that they plan to use as tools. They bring these to the surface and float on their backs as they get to work on opening and eating their snacks. “Their preferred food is urchins (海胆),” says biologist Chris Law, who notes that urchins are relatively easy for otters to break apart. But there are areas over-abundance of urchins, where urchins have eaten all the kelp. Since the kelp is gone, however, these urchins no longer have a good food supply and provide little nutritional value for otters. That’s a matter of life-and-death to otters, so they aren’t interested in consuming them.
“So that means otters have to eat alternative foods,” says Law. “Many of them are those super hard prey items that really require some kind of external force to break into.” Law and some co-workers analyzed data on 196 otters in California. It turns out that frequent tool users were able to eat harder and larger prey. This was particularly important for female otters, since they’re smaller than males and aren’t able to bite down with as much force.
“They typically wouldn’t be able to break into harder prey,” says Law. “But they use tools more than males, so they’re able to gain access to these novel sources of food items.” Besides, using tools protected the otters’ teeth. The researchers found that tool users had less dental damage from biting hard food items.
28. What can we infer about kelp and urchins?
A. Urchins survive kelp. B. Urchins destroy kelp forests.
C. Kelp and urchins coexist. D. Kelp restricts urchins’ growth.
29. Why are urchins abandoned by sea otters?
A. Urchins offer little nutrition. B. Otters find novel food items.
C. Urchins are hard to break apart. D. Otters are tired of eating urchins.
30. What can we know about male otters?
A. They prefer to consume soft food. B. They make less use of tools for food.
C. Their food chain has been broken. D. Their teeth are easier to get damaged.
31. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. Sea Otters’ Favorite Food: Urchins in Kelp Forests.
B. The Relationship Between Sea Otters’ Diet and Kelp Forests.
C. Differences in Tool Use Between Male and Female Sea Otters.
D. Tool Use: A Key to Sea Otters’ Survival in Competition for Food.

Stanford assistant professor Ruike Zhao published a groundbreaking medical breakthrough in Nature: using a tiny 2 mm micro-robot, she increased the success rate of blood clot (血块) removal from a mere 11% to an amazing 90%, sending shockwaves through the medical world.
In modern society, about one in every dozen people may experience a blood clot in their lifetime. It is widely known that blood clots are the leading cause of strokes and heart attacks. During treatment, the ability to quickly and effectively restore blood flow becomes a matter of life and death.
Unfortunately, traditional mechanical methods have a low success rate. The process is like trying to pick up broken tofu with chopsticks — not only is success unlikely, but the situation may even worsen. Blood clots may break apart while being deformed, resulting in small pieces stuck in hard-to-reach areas.
However, Professor Zhao’s 2 mm micro-robot enters blood vessels (血管) and, using high-speed rotation (旋转), generates forces to reduce the clot size to 5%. It’s like when you press and rub soft things, like hair, between your hands. The force makes them stick together into a small ball. The micro-robot works similarly, using pressure to bring the clot components together, making them easier to remove. This process requires no drugs, causes no vessel damage, and effectively releases trapped red blood cells back into blood.
What’s astonishing is that this innovation is inspired from subway TBMs, tunnel-boring machines (盾构机). The way tunnel-boring machines efficiently handle hard soil and rock in narrow spaces inspired the creation. This brilliant Chinese researcher miniaturized the enormous underground machine to a size tens of thousands of times smaller and adapted it for use in human blood vessels.
Currently, the technology has been successfully tested on pigs. While most of these studies remain in the laboratory phase, the breakthrough itself is exciting. This technology may soon extend beyond blood clots to address issues like kidney stones or gallstones.
32. How does the author present the breakthrough in paragraph 1?
A. By explaining a technical term. B. By contrasting the statistics.
C. By providing the study’s background. D. By citing an authority.
33. What is the advantage of Zhao’s micro-robot over traditional methods?
A. It generates blood more rapidly.
B. It prevents clots from forming again.
C. It is recyclable and economical.
D. It raises success rate and reduces side effects.
34. What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning TBMs?
A. The cost of medical robotics. B. The reason behind the numerous trials.
C. The inspiration behind the innovation. D. The importance of modern machinery.
35. What is the last paragraph about?
A. Choice of new research methods. B. Possible direction for further study.
C. Necessity for tests on more animals. D. Potential application of the invention.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Today’s the day, Dad,” Ethan said as he poured cereal (麦片) into a bowl. “I hope I don’t let the team down.” Ethan was going to be pitching (投球) for the first time. “Oh, you’ll do fine,” Dad said. “You’ve been practicing for months.”
“Do you have time to feed the goats before you leave?” Dad asked. “Sure. I have fifteen minutes before Justine and her dad pick me up.” “Great. Thank you.” Dad grabbed his car keys. “I’m sorry I have to leave before you, but Grandma has no other way to get to her appointment with the doctor. Good luck at the game today.”
Ethan wolfed down his cereal and headed out to the barn (畜棚). As he fed the goats, he tried to remember all the pitching tips Coach Schultz had given him. Then he spotted their young goat Zeke opening the gate! Ethan dashed over to stop him from escaping. He was too late.
Zeke bounded toward the field. Oh no! I don’t have time for this, Ethan thought, feeling sweat break out under his baseball cap. Knowing he couldn’t leave with Zeke on the loose, Ethan quickly figured out he’d need a bucket of cracked corn to attract the goat and a rope to catch him and lead him back. By that time, Zeke had disappeared into the trees in the far corner.
A car stopped in the driveway. “Ready to go?” Justine called out her window. “I — I can’t go right now,” he said. “I have to get our goat back into his barn.” “Can we help?” Justine’s dad asked. “Thanks, but I don’t think you have time.” Ethan said. “Warm-up starts soon.” “I’ll come back and help you after I take Justine to the place,” Justine’s dad said. “Thanks.” Ethan tried to swallow the lump in his throat as he went to get the corn and the rope.
After he had them, he ran back to the trees. But Zeke saw him and rushed off, getting farther and farther away. Ethan collapsed down on the ground to catch his breath. He knew the team would be starting their warm-up by now. He wished he could be there with them.

【解析】
【原文】M: Well, I’d like to share with you my childhood experience. When I was a child, I used to look forward to Saturday mornings. That was when my brother Bernard and I got our pocket money from our father. I would put half of it in my money box and run off happily with the rest to Bartlett’s, the little local shop at the end of our street. There I would join the other boys and girls eager to spend their Saturday pocket money. All Mrs. Bartlett had were a few things, arranged on a simple wooden shelf, which she kept under the counter and brought out for the children on Saturday. But to us it was a wonderful sight: sugar balls, sweets in brightly coloured paper. It always took ages for each child to decide what to buy, but Mrs. Bartlett didn’t mind. As long as there were no grown-up customers waiting to be served, she let us take our time. Bernard liked sweets. The problem was that he didn’t like buying them. He went to the newsagent’s shop that sold football cards. He was mad about these picture cards of famous footballers and spent all his pocket money trying to collect whole teams of players. On Saturday afternoons he would search the house and find out where I was. If I didn’t hide my bag of sweets quickly enough, he’d see it and say, “Can I have one?” And I would say, “Why should I give you one? You had your pocket money too. You could have bought your own sweets.” Then Bernard would go to our mother to complain. Mum would say, “Jim, don’t be so mean. Share your sweets with your brother.” I thought this was really unfair, but I had no choice.

第一节:(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳答案。
A
If you want to know more about paintings which are famous worldwide, here are four you can’t miss.

【答案】24. B 25. D 26. A 27. B

【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“When Amanda Rulton picked up a cheap coloring book and some felt-tip pens, she didn’t expect the activity to stick. It came when she was in the middle of a health crisis. Eighteen months ago, she had an infection and was rushed into emergency surgery twice, followed by numerous hospital stays. “My mental health has completely collapsed,” said Rulton, 28, from Liverpool, in the UK. “I can’t do the hobbies I once enjoyed, so having time to sit and be present in something that isn’t effortful has been really helpful.”(当Amanda Rulton拿起一本便宜的涂色书和一些毡尖笔时,她没想到这项活动会坚持下去。当时她正处于健康危机之中。18个月前,她感染了疾病,两次被紧急送往医院接受手术,随后多次住院。28岁的Rulton来自英国利物浦,他说:“我的心理健康已经完全崩溃了。”“我不能从事我曾经喜欢的爱好,所以有时间坐下来,做一些不费力的事情真的很有帮助。”)”可知,Rulton因心理健康崩溃,选择涂色是为了调节情绪状态。故选B项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段的句子“She began posting “color with me” videos to her TikTok account, many of which belong to what TikTok users call “cozy coloring”—pages with thick outlines and soft themes, designed for slow, low-pressure evenings.(她开始在她的TikTok账户上发布“和我一起上色”的视频,其中许多视频属于TikTok用户所说的“舒适涂色”——有粗轮廓和柔和主题的页面,专为缓慢、低压力的夜晚设计。)”和第三段的句子“The “cozy coloring” has recently dominated adult coloring charts—simple line art with large shapes meant for quick, relaxing fills.(“舒适涂色”最近主导了成人的着色图表——简单的线条艺术,大的形状意味着快速,轻松的填充。)”可知,“舒适涂色” 的核心特点是简单易懂且能带来舒适放松的体验。故选D项。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段的句子““When I first started, my focus was on kids and teenagers,” a London-based illustrator Miss Kitsch said, “but now the majority of my audience is adults, so I like to think of my books as a way to tend to the inner child within all of us.” She believes the nostalgia (怀旧) is powerful: “It’s not only a way to unwind after a busy day for adults, but also a chance to reconnect with creativity they may not have explored since childhood.”(“刚开始的时候,我关注的是儿童和青少年,”伦敦插画家Kitsch说,“但现在我的大多数读者都是成年人,所以我喜欢把我的书看作是一种关注我们所有人内心孩子的方式。”她认为怀旧的力量是强大的:“这不仅是成年人在忙碌的一天后放松的一种方式,也是他们重新获得童年以来可能没有探索过的创造力的机会。”)”可知,Kitsch认为她的涂色书给成年人带来的是重新获得创造性的机会。故选A项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Girija Kaimal, professor of the Creative Arts Therapies at Drexel University, thinks coloring’s appeal runs deeper than that. “We were hunter-gatherers. We worked with our hands and used all our senses. Coloring takes us back there,” she noted. As for why it feels rewarding, “by the end of it, you have something colorful,” she explained. “In nature, when you see color, it usually implies richness.”(德雷塞尔大学创意艺术疗法 教授Girija Kaimal认为,色彩的吸引力远不止于此。“我们是狩猎采集者。我们用手干活,动用了我们所有的感官。着色把我们带回到那里,”她指出。至于为什么会有成就感,她解释说:“到最后,你会得到一些丰富多彩的东西。”“在大自然中,当你看到颜色时,它通常意味着丰富。”)”和第五段“She added that this kind of activity “lets people play again.” “Skill doesn’t matter; we are allowed to play as adults, however silly,” she said.(她补充说,这种活动“让人们再次玩游戏”。“技巧并不重要;我们可以像成年人一样玩耍,不管有多傻。”)”可知,Girija Kaimal认为涂色满足了人类的基本需求(动手、创造、玩乐)。故选B项。

【答案】28. B 29. A 30. B 31. D
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了海獭在食物竞争中借工具生存及相关生存策略。
【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“But there are areas over-abundance of urchins, where urchins have eaten all the kelp. (但有些地区海胆数量过多,海胆吃掉了所有的海草)”可知,海胆会破坏海草森林。故选B。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Since the kelp is gone, however, these urchins no longer have a good food supply and provide little nutritional value for otters. That’s a matter of life-and-death to otters, so they aren’t interested in consuming them.(然而,由于海带已经消失,这些海胆不再有充足的食物来源,也就无法为海獭提供多少营养价值。这对海獭来说是关乎生死的问题,所以它们根本无意食用这些海胆)”可知,海獭之所以会抛弃海胆,是因为海胆提供的营养很少。故选A。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“But they use tools more than males, so they’re able to gain access to these novel sources of food items.(但它们比雄性更喜欢使用工具,所以它们能够获得这些新的食物来源。)”可知,雌性海獭比雄性海獭更多地使用工具来获取食物,即雄性海獭较少使用工具获取食物。故选B。
【31题详解】

【答案】32. B 33. D 34. C 35. D

It's like when you press and rub soft things, like hair, between your hands. The force makes them stick together into a small ball. The micro-robot works similarly, using pressure to bring the clot components together, making them easier to remove. This process requires no drugs, causes no vessel damage, and effectively releases trapped red blood cells back into blood.(然而,赵教授研发的2毫米微型机器人能够进入血管内部,并通过高速旋转产生力量,将血块缩小至 5%。

【答案】例文
Just then, a minibus stopped before Ethan, out of which jumped Coach Schultz and the kids from the team. They shouted excitedly and ran over to Ethan, “Justine told us what happened,” Coach Schultz said. “Don’t worry. We’ll help you catch the goat.” Overwhelmed by the unexpected kindness, Ethan felt a sudden lump form in his throat. He took a deep breath and gulped. “Thanks.” Then, with Coach Schultz organizing everyone and Ethan giving instructions, they moved calmly toward Zeke and circled him. Ethan slipped the rope around Zeke’s head, led him back into his barn, and closed the gate.
“Thanks, guys,” Ethan said.” I’m sorry this took so much of our warm-up time.” “It’s OK,” Coach Schultz said in delight. “Our team works well together! And I can see how responsible you are.” He clapped Ethan on the shoulder. Then he turned to other kids, continuing, “Well done, everyone! Now let’s get back to the baseball field, team. We’ll have time for a short warm-up before the game.” Ethan grinned as he added a lock to the latch on Zeke’s gate before hurrying into the minibus. Somehow, his pitching arm felt stronger than ever.
