Every one of us may have been hurt by others—either by their words or actions. The best way to deal with the problem is to “forgive and forget”.
“It is well established that learning to forgive others can have positive benefits for one’s physical and mental health,” Saima Noreen, a scientist at the University of St. Andrews, UK, told the Huffington Post.
Recently, Noreen and her research team have found one more reason that you should stick to this principle—forgiving somebody who has hurt you makes it easier for you to forget the unhappy memory, according to their new study.
In the study, researchers asked volunteers to read descriptions of 40 different situations that contained bad actions such as stealing, lying and cheating. Imagining being the victims (受害者), volunteers then had to decide whether they would be able to forgive. Two weeks later, volunteers took part in a memory test. In the test, they were shown a series of words related to the situations they had read about and then were asked to recall certain ones.
The results showed that people were less likely to remember the details of the unpleasant experiences if they had found forgiveness in their hearts. In contrast, if they hadn’t forgiven the mistake, they could always remember what had happened.
However, forgiving someone who has hurt you is always easier said than done. So Noreen hopes that one day in the near future research will give rise to powerful therapeutic (有疗效的) tools that will enable people to “forgive and forget” more effectively.
24.According to the passage, Saima Noreen is ________.
A.a reporter of Huffington B.a scientist from UK
C.a student at a university D.a volunteer in the test
25.What have Noreen and her team found recently?
A.Forgiving helps us to forget unhappy memories.
B.They have found no reason to hurt other people.
C.A memory test is necessary to help people forgive.
D.An unpleasant experience can be easily forgotten.
26.The right order of the following steps of the study should be ________.
a. Take a memory test.
b. Imagine being a victim.
c. Decide whether to forgive or not.
d. Read descriptions of 40 different situations.
A.d→b→a→c B.a→b→d→c C.a→d→b→c D.d→b→c→a
27.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.It’s impossible to forgive someone.
B.Noreen has finished her research report.
C.There may be some therapeutic tools in the future.
D.The therapeutic tools have been invented by the scientists.

Students used to be taught shop classes, in which they learned skills like woodworking. Nowadays, most schools have given up shop class in favor of academic subjects. However, the National Science Foundation STEM Guitar Project thinks that academic subjects and carpentry (木匠活) can be combined. This organization aims to get students excited about science, math, and arts all at once, by teaching students how to make a guitar.
Experts forecast that technical skills like this one could be in great demand in the future. Unfortunately, many high schools don’t offer students access to mechanical design skills, due to the fact that they are not on the list of standardized subjects and the schools can’t scientifically assess students’ performance. But, is STEM really needed in order to build a guitar? Actually, it’s impossible to make a guitar without knowing science and math.
Joshua Cruz, a design teacher, said that building a guitar also teaches troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. He thinks the STEM Guitar Project provides opportunities to challenge students to apply their own creativity to STEM problems. “I’m still figuring out how we can apply it,” Cruz explained. “I think we’re going to use a lot of the same theories behind how strings and stringed instruments work and try and get them to make stringed instruments of their own, and thus improve their academic performance.”
Because of its effectiveness and creativity, the guitar initiative (倡议) was offered the Gerhard Salinger award, which recognizes outstanding STEM school programs. “Through this project, we have become part of this community of businessmen, engineers and artisans,” said Mark French, one of the six people who received the award for his work with STEM guitar. “It’s a great group and I’m pleased to be part of it. I get to combine something I love doing with an activity that really makes the world a little bit better place. It really does help people.”
Thanks to people like Mark French, and to the STEM Guitar Project, the world is a little bit of a better, more educated, and more musical place.
28.Why are mechanical design skills unavailable to high school students?
A.Students are not excited about these skills.
B.Students’ performance can’t be properly evaluated.
C.They are not necessary for the students’ growth.
D.They are of no help to students’ academic performance.
29.What benefit can students get from building a guitar?
A.The ability to find faults with others.
B.The skills of making a guitar independently.
C.The opportunity to challenge scientific theories.
D.The improvement of creativity and learning ability.
30.What is Mark French’s attitude towards the STEM Guitar Project?
A.Critical B.Indifferent C.Positive D.Doubtful
31.What is the text mainly about?
A.The combination of skills in a project
B.The award for the STEM Guitar Project
C.The STEM Guitar Project promotes Music
D.The STEM Guitar Project benefits students

The Oxford English Dictionary defines awe as a feeling of religious respect mixed with fear or wonder. Now a research, done by teams from the University of California Berkeley and UC Irvine, found that experiencing awe might make people help each other out more.
“Our investigation indicates that awe serves a vital social function.” said Paul Piff, an assistant professor of psychology and social behavior at UC Irvine. “By decreasing the emphasis on the individual self, awe may encourage people to give up strict self-interest to improve the well-being of others.”
After showing participants images of nature, Piff and his team asked questions. The researchers measured moral behavior. And they measured generosity. Those who reported feeling a sense of awe showed more moral behavior.
Awe is defined partly by the fear one feels in the face of something larger than themselves. In fact, the same generous behavior was observed in people who were shown scenes of natural disasters. According to Hoffman, whether it was watching scenes of the Amazonian rainforest or a violent volcanic eruption, participants were more willing to share resources with each other afterwards.
Awe doesn’t just inspire moral behavior. Recent studies suggest that experiencing awe may promote your immune system. And it could make you feel more creative, too. It can even make you feel that you have more time to get things done.
“When people experience awe, they really want to share that experience with other people, suggesting that it has this particularly great part much like virus.” Piff tells Hoffman. “Maybe this is another way that awe binds people together—by causing people to want to share their positive experiences collectively with one another.”
32.What is the purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To stress the function of awe. B.To show the application of awe.
C.To introduce a finding of awe. D.To state the importance of awe.
33.What may Piff agree with?
A.Awe helps people to be generous. B.Awe raises one’s social position.
C.Awe allows one to grow stronger. D.Awe enables one to be successful.
34.Why is awe compared to virus in the last paragraph?
A.It has an internal principle. B.It has an influential power.
C.It has a widespread flavour. D.It has a distinct limitation.
35.What can be the suitable title for the passage?
A.The Origins of Awe B.The Varieties of Awe
C.The Changes of Awe D.The Advantages of Awe

Daniel and Lucas are twins. Tony is their grandpa, whose age is 70 this year. The two grandsons like to take exercise with their grandpa and even go out on adventures.
Last summer, they paid a visit to Stone Mountain Park with their grandpa. They had the opportunity to spend the day with their grandpa. One thing that three of them had really desired to do was climb to the top of the mountain, which isn’t very high. And fortunately there are some walking routes to the top of it, but for the two teenagers, along with a rather old grandpa, it’s a difficult task.
Daniel and Lucas were much more interested in the walk than their grandpa, and they viewed it as an exciting adventure. But climbing the mountain was a rather big challenge for Tony. He decided to walk slowly up to the mountain. Considering his personal safety, Tony had to remind himself that it took him two steps to equal his grandsons’ one step. He often had to stop for a while to regain energy, and then tried to catch up with them.
Tony was very tired. He just wanted to arrive at the top of the mountain as soon as possible to enjoy the beauty of the mountain top. But the twin grandsons were not focused on him at all. Instead, they were simply enjoying the journey of the walk and all that they had seen and heard along the way up. Suddenly, they found a strange plant. Daniel called out, “Grandpa, here is a special plant. Come and have a look.”

M: Welcome to Hidden Valley Stone Castle. I’m Matthew, and I’ll be your tour guide for today, sharing centuries of stories with you. The castle was built in the 11th century. It was a summer house for royal families because as you can see, it’s surrounded by beautiful nature and ancient forests. Later, however, it was used as a prison where many war prisoners were held during the 17th century regional conflicts. Owing to the castle’s history and natural beauty, a lot of movies about the Middle Ages have been filmed here. You’ve probably seen some of them. Despite its ancient origins, modern facilities have been added to improve tourists’ experience. Please understand that some parts of the castle are inaccessible due to ongoing repair work. Now, let’s start walking around the castle. Please stay together for safety on the uneven stones. If you have any questions during the tour, just ask me. I will be happy to answer them.

根据Buenos Aires, Argentina 部分中的“One of the most unique aspects of a Buenos Aires Christmas is the lively street celebrations, with fireworks lighting the night sky and tango dancers rushing to the streets.(布宜诺斯艾利斯圣诞节最独特的一个方面是热闹的街头庆祝活动,烟花照亮夜空,探戈舞者涌上街头)”可知,Buenos Aires Christmas 的特别之处是热情的街上庆祝。故选B项。
根据Bali, Indonesia — Tropical Paradise下的“Bali, with its lush landscapes, pristine beaches, and rich cultural heritage, offers a unique tropical Christmas experience. While Christmas isn’t a traditional Balinese holiday, many resorts and restaurants embrace the festive season with special events, dinners, and decorations. You can enjoy a beachfront Christmas dinner, explore ancient temples, or simply relax under the sun.(巴厘岛,以其郁郁葱葱的风景,原始的海滩,和丰富的文化遗产,提供了一个独特的热带圣诞体验。虽然圣诞节不是巴厘岛的传统节日,但许多度假胜地和餐馆都会举办特别的活动,晚餐和装饰。你可以享受海滨圣诞晚餐,探索古老的寺庙,或简单地在阳光下放松)”可知,如果你对当地的文化遗产感兴趣,你最有可能探索印尼巴厘岛。故选C项。
23.推理判断题。根据文章第一段内容“If you prefer summer, now is the time to visit NH Hotels web and plan your ideal warm holiday for Christmas. Here, we’ve selected a list of some of the most attractive sunny Christmas destinations around the world.(如果你更喜欢夏天,现在是时候访问NH酒店网站,计划你理想的温暖的圣诞节假期了。在这里,我们选择了一些世界上最具吸引力的阳光圣诞节目的地)”可推知,本文可能选自NH Hotels Web页上的内容。故选A项。

根据第二段中的““It is well established that learning to forgive others can have positive benefits for one’s physical and mental health,” Saima Noreen, a scientist at the University of St. Andrews, UK, told the Huffington Post. (“众所周知,学会原谅他人可以对一个人的身心健康产生积极的好处,”英国圣安德鲁斯大学的科学家Saima Noreen告诉赫芬顿邮报)”可知,Saima Noreen后面的内容为其同位语,所以Saima Noreen应是科学家。故选B项。
25.细节理解题。根据第三段“Recently, Noreen and her research team have found one more reason that you should stick to this principle—forgiving somebody who has hurt you makes it easier for you to forget the unhappy memory, according to their new study.(最近,Noreen和她的研究团队发现了另一个你应该坚持这个原则的理由——根据他们的新研究,原谅伤害过你的人会让你更容易忘记不快乐的记忆)”可知,研究发现,宽恕伤害过你的人使你更容易忘记不快乐记忆,所以,宽恕帮助我们忘记不快乐的记忆。故选A项。
根据第四段中的“In the study, researchers asked volunteers to read descriptions of 40 different situations that contained bad actions such as stealing, lying and cheating. Imagining being the victims (受害者), volunteers then had to decide whether they would be able to forgive. Two weeks later, volunteers took part in a memory test.(在这项研究中,研究人员要求志愿者阅读40种不同情况的描述,这些情况包含偷窃,撒谎和作弊等不良行为。想象自己是受害者,志愿者必须决定他们是否能够原谅。两周后,志愿者参加了记忆测试)”可知,这个实验是先阅读40种不同的含有不良行为的情况,然后再将自己想象为受害者,接着确定是否原谅他们,两周后再参加记忆测试,该研究过程与D项顺序吻合。故选D项。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“So Noreen hopes that one day in the near future research will give rise to powerful therapeutic (有疗效的) tools that will enable people to “forgive and forget” more effectively.(因此,诺琳希望在不久的将来的某一天,研究将产生强大的治疗工具,使人们能够更有效地“原谅和忘记”)”可知,Noreen希望在将来能有一种强大的治疗工具可以帮助人们更高效地“宽恕和忘记”,由此可推断,在未来很可能会出现治疗工具。故选D项。

根据第三段“Joshua Cruz, a design teacher, said that building a guitar also teaches troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. He thinks the STEM Guitar Project provides opportunities to challenge students to apply their own creativity to STEM problems. (设计老师约书亚·克鲁兹说,制作吉他还可以教授排除故障和解决问题的技能。他认为STEM吉他项目提供了挑战学生将自己的创造力应用于STEM问题的机会)”以及“I think we’re going to use a lot of the same theories behind how strings and stringed instruments work and try and get them to make stringed instruments of their own, and thus improve their academic performance.(我认为,我们将在弦和弦乐器的工作原理背后使用许多相同的理论,并试图让他们制作自己的弦乐器,从而提高他们的学习成绩)”可知,制作吉他可以让学生们应用创造力,并提高学习成绩,即制作吉他可以提高学生的创造力和学习能力。故选D。

in an effort to do sth意为“试图做某事”,故填to create。
分析句子结构可知,此处为谓语动词,由“in the second century B.C.”

Tony was hurrying towards his grandsons when he fell down. He looked down and saw his foot caught on a tree root. He tried to stand up but failed. Daniel and Lucas waited for some time and then looked back, only to find their grandpa struggling to stand on his feet. They put aside their curiosity, running quickly towards their grandpa. Daniel kept comforting him nervously. Meanwhile, Lucas tore off the root and examined Tony’s feet. There were no wounds but Tony was unable to walk.
Daniel and Lucas wondered how to get their grandpa to the top of the mountain. Facing the sudden problem, they responded positively. Lucas, who knew the first-aid knowledge, treated Tony’s feet. Then, seeing their Grandpa really wanted to reach the top, he said happily, “Why don’t we take turns carrying our grandpa to the top of the mountain?” Daniel said OK immediately.
