Leaf-blowing is a traditional folk art of Chongqing. It started from the Tujia people in Youyang. This art is wonderfully simple, and all you need is a leaf.
Playing it well requires skill. A fresh leaf, neither too young nor too old, is needed first. Then by controlling your breath and how hard you press the leaf, you can produce clear and bright sounds full of the beauty of nature.
Leaf-blowing has a long history. Early Tujia people used leaves to sound like birds while hunting (狩猎). As time went by, Leaf-blowing became a way to express feelings as an instrument. In the Tang Dynasty, Leaf-blowing was even performed in the Imperial Palace (皇宫).
There is a moving love story behind this traditional art. A young Tujia man fell in love with a girl, but they were separated by a high mountain. As the girl sadly left away, the man picked a leaf and played a genuine melody (乐曲) with it. The sound traveled across the hills, touched the girl’s heart, and brought her back. Ever since then, Tujia boys have used Leaf-blowing to win over the girls they love.
This ancient art is still alive today. Zhang Qilin, one of the people who carry on the traditional art, has taught over two thousand students, and he even wrote textbooks for it. Another artist, Bai Xiangui, has brought Leaf-blowing to stages at home and abroad. As Bai says, “Music builds a bridge for people who don’t speak the same language.” Thanks to these artists, the ancient art will continue to share its simple beauty with people around the world.
Leaf-blowing connects people with nature and carries the sincere emotions of the Tujia people. It’s truly a living treasure of Bayu culture.
24. What do you need to play Leaf-blowing?
A. An old leaf. B. A fresh leaf. C. A young leaf. D. A beautiful leaf.

(After arriving at her uncle Mr. Craven’s huge house, Mary Lennox felt lonely.)
At first, each day was the same for Mary. Every morning, she woke up and ate breakfast alone. She looked out at the huge moor (荒野), which seemed to stretch (伸展) in all directions. She had nothing to do and no one to play with.
But after a few days of staying outside, something began to change. One morning, she felt hungry for the first time. She ate up her porridge and even started to enjoy being outside.
One day, she walked down a long path with empty flowerbeds on both sides. Against the wall, ivy (常春藤) grew thickly. At one part of the wall, the dark green ivy leaves were thicker than those in other places.
She stopped to look up at the ivy, which was blowing in the wind. Then she saw old Ben’s robin (知更鸟) on the top of the wall. He was looking at her with his small head on one side.
“Oh!” she cried. “Is that you?” She spoke as if he would understand and answer.
And he did. He sang and jumped along the wall. Mary laughed and ran after him. “I like you!” she cried. At last, the robin flew to a tree on the other side of the wall and sang loudly.
“It’s in the garden no one can go into,” she said to herself. “It’s the garden without a door. He lives there. How I wish I could see what it is like!”
She looked closely at the wall but found no door.
That night, Mary asked Martha, “Why does Mr. Craven hate the garden?”
“It was Mrs. Craven’s garden. She loved it. But one day she fell off a tree and died. Mr. Craven was so sad that he locked the door and buried the key. No one has gone in since then,” Martha said quietly.
Mary felt sorry for him. As she sat by the fire, she heard the wind outside, then something else.
“Do you hear someone crying?” she looked confused (迷惑的) and asked.
“No, it’s just the wind,” Martha answered.
(But Mary was not so sure...)

Have you ever imagined a material that can feel touch, sense temperature, and even “hear” sound? Scientists have made this possible with an amazing new invention called electronic skin (皮肤), or e-skin.
E-skin is made from special plastic and carbon. It is very thin and soft, much like the real human skin. When you press on it, small electrical signals (信号) are produced inside. A connected computer reads these signals and tells exactly how hard the push is. That is how e-skin “feels” pressure.
E-skin is also great at sensing temperature. When it is heated, it sends out different electrical signals right away. Scientists placed a piece of e-skin on a person’s wrist (手腕). It successfully checked both skin temperature and blood pressure at the same time. In the future, it could replace many traditional medical devices (设备).
What’s even more surprising is that e-skin can “hear”. In tests, it could pick up words from a speech. Sound waves (声波) in the air cause the e-skin to vibrate (颤动). The e-skin turns sound into small electrical signals and sends them to a machine. This helps scientists check how well it can “hear”. A scientist said it could catch sound even better than an iPhone’s microphone.
The uses of this invention are exciting. Scientists believe this new e-skin could be used on man-made arms or legs. People who have lost a hand or leg could feel the real world again. It could also be made into soft and comfortable hearing devices. Traditional hearing aids are hard, but a soft device would feel better on the skin.
From feeling pressure, sensing temperature, to hearing sound, e-skin is slowly ▲ . Researchers are also developing new materials that can sense damage (损伤) and self-repair, bringing e-skin even closer to real human skin.
32. How does e-skin “feel” pressure?
A. By changing shapes when pressed. B. By producing electrical signals.
C. By checking the skin temperature. D. By sending out sound waves.
33. What is the order of how e-skin “hears” sound?
① The e-skin begins to vibrate.
② The signals are sent to a machine.
③ Sound waves reach the e-skin.
④ The e-skin makes electrical signals.
A. ③②④① B. ②③①④ C. ②④③① D. ③①④②
34. Who would get the most help from wearing e-skin according to the passage?
A. A singer who wishes her voice to sound more beautiful.
B. A person who has lost his arm and uses a man-made one.
C. A student who hopes to remember new words easily.
D. A teacher who often speaks loudly in a big classroom.
35. Which of the following can be put in the ▲ ?
A. keeping humans and machines far apart B. making machines replace humans completely
C. helping humans to control machines better D. connecting with humans and machines closely
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. B 35. D

第二段说明原理:“When you press on it, small electrical signals are produced inside. A connected computer reads these signals and tells exactly how hard the push is”,这直接表明电子皮肤通过产生电信号来“感知”压力。
【33题详解】
第四段阐述流程:“Sound waves in the air cause the e-skin to vibrate. The e-skin turns sound into small electrical signals and sends them to a machine”,说明电子皮肤“听到”声音的顺序为:声波到达电子皮肤→电子皮肤开始振动→电子皮肤产生电信号→信号被传送到机器。
【34题详解】
第五段指出应用:“Scientists believe this new e-skin could be used on man-made arms or legs. People who have lost a hand or leg could feel the real world again”,说明失去手臂并使用人造手臂的人能从佩戴电子皮肤中获得最大帮助。

Should Students Be Banned (禁止) from Using Social Media (社交媒体)?
Recently, many countries have taken action to protect teenagers from negative effects of social media. Australia has passed a law to stop children under 16 from having accounts (账户) on TikTok or Instagram. France is considering a ban on social media use for those under 15. In China, during this year’s “Two Sessions” (两会), it was proposed (提案) that young people under 16 should be banned from using social media at night. Clearly, governments are trying to help students focus more on daily life.
I support this. When I use social media, I often spend hours watching short videos or reading posts. What’s worse, I get addicted (沉迷于) easily. Sometimes I even stay up late secretly using social media, so I don’t have enough sleep and my grades go down quickly. Worst of all, seeing others’ “perfect” lives online makes me feel bad about myself. Banning social media will help me focus better on study and enjoy face-to-face communication.
I agree that social media can cause problems, but a total ban is too simple. In the age of AI, social media can be a useful learning tool. I usually follow science pages and educational videos, and I learn a lot from them. Thanks to social media, I have better relationships with my friends. We share interesting things in our lives, encourage each other, and stay close wherever we are. Instead of simply banning social media, why not let us use it properly? After all, we should practice self-control.
Every coin has two sides. We need social media to add fun to our lives, but if not used properly, it will cause us serious problems. Therefore, we should find a balance and use it wisely.

People around the world want to be happy. As we all know, happiness, more than wealth or fame, is what most people are looking for.
But what is happiness? In fact, happiness is different from person to person. For some, happiness comes from succeeding in a task, such as winning a basketball game, getting good grades in an exam or cooking a meal that their family enjoy. For others, they always focus on what they have rather than what they’ve lost. When something bad happens, they don’t feel discouraged but choose to get back up quickly. They believe failures or mistakes teach them something valuable that helps them do better next time.
My happiness is simple. I often see children laugh, sing, or dance happily. They are just enjoying the simple joys of being alive. That makes me feel happy for no reason. Another secret is to enjoy other people’s happiness. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my friends attend their favorite schools, find good jobs or meet their Mr. Right. So we can choose to be happy and, with an open heart, accept the happiness that is all around us.
We do live in a “world full of problems”. We see war, poverty (贫穷) and sickness in the news every day. We also have our own problems. But no matter what happens, happiness is always there, even in our darkest moments. Whether we are happy or not is truly decided by our attitude (心态)—our way of thinking that helps us grow.
It’s OK to be happy! Why not give it a try?
Everybody wants happiness, and happiness means ____55____. Some people’s happiness comes from ____56____, while others feel happy by thinking positively. As for the writer, ____57____. Even in a troubled world, we can choose to be happy. In a word, the writer encourages us ____58____.

例文:
Dear friends,
A recent report shows that over 80% of teenagers value exercise, but many cannot keep it because they have too much homework or just feel too tired. I was once like that. I used to make excuses for not exercising. However, I decided to change. I started with small steps, like taking a 15-minute walk daily. Gradually, I increased the time and tried running. Fighting against laziness was hard, but I kept going.
Now, I feel much stronger and healthier. Exercise also clears my mind, helping me study better. I have become more positive and confident.
So let’s take action together! Start with small activities. Don’t wait any longer. Let’s make “Stay Active, Stay Healthy” a new trend in our school!

Stress is common in our daily life. You may feel stressed when you speak in front of people, join in a sports game, or take an exam. The level of stress can make a big difference to our performance of work and study.
Eustress, also known as “good stress”, gives someone a sense of achievement or other positive feelings. For example, if you are under eustress before an exam, you may prepare better for it and get higher grades.
Distress is a negative form of stress rather than a positive challenge. That means too much stress may lead to worse performance. When you are doing something important and feel stressed out, you will be more likely to make some mistakes.
