Step 2 Presentation 1. Have students talk about what they think of volunteer activities. 2. Have students get to know the sentence structure “It is+ adjective+ to-infinitive”. 3. Have students read the text on P84 and answer the following questions: What does Mary think of helping people in need? What is she doing as a volunteer? What does she think of it? What does she think of her volunteering experience? 4. Have students work out the first rule. Step 3 Practice 1. Have students finish Part A1 on P84. 2. Have students make up a dialogue to talk about volunteer activities, using “it is+adjective+to-infinitive”. Step 4 Presentation 1. Have students read the text on P85 and answer the following questions: What does Mary think is important for blind children? What does the government need to do for blind children? What does Mary think of the teachers’ job? 2. Have students work out the second rule. Step 5 Practice 1. Have students complete the conversation in Part B1 on P85. 2. Have students share what they have learned from Simon’s experience, using “it is+adjective+for...+to-infinitive”. 3. Have students talk about where to do volunteer activities and the reasons, using “it is+adjective+for...+to-infinitive”. Step 6 Presentation 1. Have students read the text on P86 and complete the following two sentences: Mary thinks the government is _____ to create special schools for children with disabilities. She believes the teachers are ______ to work with these children. 2. Have students work out the third rule. Step 7 Practice 1. Have students finish Part C1 and C2 on P86. 2. Have students sum up what they have learned from Amy’s volunteering experience. Step 8 Production Have students plan a volunteer activity for their class. Step 9 Summary Have students summarize what they have learned in this lesson. Step 10 Homework Need to: Write an invitation letter to invite classmates to your volunteering activity, with the information from your plan.
