It was summertime. The ant and the grasshopper were in the farmer’s field. The ant was busy collecting corn. The grasshopper was relaxing in the sun.
“Hey, Ant, come sit with me,” said the grasshopper.
“No, thanks,” said the ant. “I have to take this corn home. I’m preparing for the winter.”
A few weeks later, summer was almost at an end. The ant continued to take corn home every day, but the grasshopper just played his violin and danced around.
“Come on, Ant!” said the grasshopper. “Dance with me!”
“No,” replied the ant. “I’m going to get more corn. Why don’t you join me? You should plan for the winter.”
“But the winter is so far away! Your work looks so boring! Come with me! Let’s have a picnic!”
“No, thanks, Grasshopper. I’m going to continue with my boring work.”
The grasshopper was silent for a while, but then he happily danced away. The ant looked tired, but she felt happy when she saw all the food in her kitchen.
The autumn arrived and the weather became cool and windy. The grasshopper ran around the farm singing songs. The poor ant had to fight her way through the wind. She wanted to collect lots of wood.
“Ant, it’s too windy to work!” said the grasshopper. “Come and sing with me!”
“No, thanks, Grasshopper. There’s just a little bit more work for me to do. I want to be warm in the winter.”
And then the cold winter came. The ant sat at home by her fire, enjoying some lovely corn soup. Then she heard a knock at the door.
“Oh, dear Ant,” said the grasshopper, “you must help me! I have no food! And no fire to keep me warm!”

Imagine you go to the supermarket in your area, but there are almost no fruits, vegetables, honey, milk, eggs, or chocolate. How would you feel? Disappointed? Angry? Sad? At this moment you realize people, plants, and animals are all connected. We need each other to live, and bees are one of the best examples of this connection.
Bees are very hard-working animals, and their greatest work is pollination (授粉). On one trip, they often visit 50 to 100 flowers. As they fly from one flower to another, they take pollen (花粉)with them. This action helps plants grow. In fact, without their work, about 80 per cent of the plants in the world cannot grow. For this reason, many scientists believe that bees are the most important animals on this planet.
Bees are also one of the most interesting animals in the world. For example, they work hard together to make their homes. In order to store honey, they create honeycombs (蜂巢). Another interesting thing about bees is how they communicate. When a bee finds new food, it uses a dance to tell the others where and how far away the food is.
Bees play an important part in the ecosystem of our planet. However, the number of bees is dropping, and scientists are worried. Bees need our help, and there is a lot we can do. Think about what you can do to protect one of the most awesome animals on earth.
32. What’s the purpose of the questions in Paragraph 1?
A. To show the bees’ own feelings. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To ask readers to answer them. D. To talk about the supermarket.
33. What does “This action” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Making honey. B. How bees build their homes.
C. How bees talk to one another. D. Taking pollen from one flower to another.
34. How do bees show other bees where food is?
A. By dancing. B. By leaving a special smell.
C. By drawing lines on the ground. D. By making loud sounds.
35. Where is this passage most probably from?
A. A story book. B. A science magazine.
C. A history textbook. D. A travelling guide.
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. A 35. B

The drum has been in China for thousands of years. It is more than just a musical instrument, with deep spiritual meaning. Confucius thought highly of the “Drum Dance”, and it is also the origin of the Chinese phrase “guwu”, which means “embolden” (使大胆) in English.
The drum was first talked about in Chinese history in the Pottery Age (陶器时代). The Zhou Dynasty set up a drum music group and developed a complete drum music system. Since then, drums have been used in sacrifice (祭祀), military (军事), labour (劳动) and other activities.
In ancient China, drums were very necessary for a good harvest. People believed drum sounds could attract rain, so they used drums to call for good weather. Drums also played an important role in wars: their loud sounds could scare enemies and cheer soldiers on.
In the Tang and Song dynasties, drums were widely used in national bands, dramas, folk art, boat races, lion dances and festivals. Drum beats became a symbol of celebrations, bringing people joy.
Today, there are many different types of Chinese drums, such as “Taiping Drum”, “Ansai Waist Drum” and “Fengyang Flower Drum”. In short, drum culture shows the peace and richness of Chinese society, and people’s wishes for peace and happiness.

A. Making honey. B. How bees build their homes.
C. How bees talk to one another. D. Taking pollen from one flower to another.
34. How do bees show other bees where food is?
A. By dancing. B. By leaving a special smell.
C. By drawing lines on the ground. D. By making loud sounds.
35. Where is this passage most probably from?
A. A story book. B. A science magazine.
C. A history textbook. D. A travelling guide.
