A new social media trend called “Becoming Chinese” is becoming popular among TikTok users all over the world. More and more foreigners start to try Chinese daily lifestyles online. These daily habits include drinking warm water instead of cold drinks, wearing slippers (拖鞋) at home, eating cooked vegetables and practicing Baduanjin—a traditional gentle exercise for health. They are common in China but new and interesting to many foreigners.
Why does this trend become popular? First, young people are looking for healthier living ways. Second, China’s global charm is growing day by day. The Global Times says that Chinese lifestyle wisdom can help people fight against the “burnout society (倦怠社会)”. Chinese culture teaches people to live in harmony with nature and keep a balance between yin and yang. In such a fast-changing world, these lifestyles bring people calm and peace. As Western societies struggle with uncertainty, people want to look for new ways of living outside their own countries.
CCTV points out that many young people abroad have a good impression of China, which shows China’s increasing soft power. They no longer just watch Chinese culture from far away, but take part in it. An expert from Minzu University of China calls it a grassroots cultural exchange. Foreigners learn small daily habits that Chinese people hardly realize as special culture.
US tech magazine Wired saw this trend as part of a bigger story. Chinese technology and products have influenced Western life for years, such as mobile phones, AI and cultural icons like Labubu. The “Becoming Chinese” trend is just a natural result of this influence.
In 2026, Western countries will see more new cultural trends. For example, video podcasts may become the main entertainment instead of traditional TV.
34. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a Chinese lifestyle?
A. Drinking warm water. B. Eating cooked vegetables.
C. Running every morning. D. Wearing slippers at home.
35. What is the main reason why young foreigners are trying Chinese daily habits?
A. To learn traditional Chinese culture.
B. To live a healthier and more balanced life.
C. To prepare for traveling to China in the near future.
D. To become popular on social media platforms like TikTok.
36. What does “this influence” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The growing interest in traditional Chinese lifestyle.
B. The spread of Chinese lifestyle wisdom on TikTok.
C. The effect of Chinese technology and cultural products.
D. The expert’s description of grassroots exchange.
37. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Foreign people don’t like Chinese daily habits.
B. China’s soft power is getting stronger in the world.
C. Video podcasts have taken the place of TV in Western countries.
D. “Burnout society” can be solved easily by medicine.

Ryan and Ahmed sat on their bicycles at the start of the cyclocross course. Ahmed had been competing in cyclocross for three years, but this was Ryan’s first race. He wished he could remember everything Ahmed had taught him.
Ryan reviewed the last six months in his mind. From the moment, Ahmed had first asked whether he would like to try the sport, Ryan had been excited. Ahmed helped Ryan find safety gear. He also explained the importance of practising and set up a plan for the two friends to practise together.
Practising was hard. Ryan soon grew bored with working on the same skills over and over. He was ready to race! Ryan ended up skipping (不参加) many of the practices. When Ryan did go to practices, he spent more time doing tricks with his bike than he did listening to Ahmed’s tips.
“Now the real fun begins,” Ryan thought as he sat at the starting line.
“You need to get serious,” Ahmed warned. “Cyclocross can be dangerous.”
Bang! The starting gun went off. The boys rushed off the starting line. Ryan saw the first obstacle (障碍) ahead. It was a series of small hurdles.
“Here I go,” Ryan shouted when he reached the hurdles. He jumped off his bike and landed hard on his foot. Next, he had to get his bike onto his shoulder. Ryan could not remember what Ahmed said about shouldering the bike. He tried to pick it up by the wheels but dropped it. Finally, he got his bike off the ground. As he ran, he tried to balance the bike on his shoulder. The bike was heavy, and his ankle hurt. Before he knew it, he was lying face-down in the mud.
“Are you okay?” Ryan heard his friend ask. Ahmed reached down to help Ryan. Ryan was thankful that Ahmed cared more about him than about the race. He caught Ahmed’s hand and stood.
“Ouch!” Ryan cried. It hurt to put weight on his ankle. “You were right, Ahmed. Cyclocross is about more than strength and speed. Can we spend a few more months training together? I want to finish my next cyclocross race!”
38. What’s the main purpose of Paragraph 3?
A. To provide more information about cyclocross.
B. To show Ryan’s efforts in practising cyclocross.
C. To introduce the safety rules of the cyclocross race.
D. To leave clues about why Ryan failed in the cyclocross race.
39. What may happen next according to the passage?
A. Ryan will end his friendship with Ahmed. B. Ryan will skip more of the cyclocross practices.
C. Ryan will become serious and train harder. D. Ryan will certainly win the next cyclocross race.
40. Which of the following best describes Ahmed?
A. Confident and humorous. B. Organized and helpful.
C. Brave and friendly. D. Curious and hard-working.
41. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Six Months Spent on the Practice B. Cyclocross—Strength and Speed
C. A Lesson Learned the Hard Way D. Safety First, Friendship Second
D
It might sound like magic, but in February, a paralyzed (瘫痪的) patient was able to drink water on his own by controlling a special glove with his brain. The glove then acted as his hand. This was a success in brain-machine interface (BMI,脑机接口) technology made by a team of Chinese scientists and doctors.
BMI refers to creating a connection between the human brain and external (外部的) devices, making communication between the brain and computers. For paralyzed people, BMI can allow them to move and do simple things by themselves.
On October 24, 2023, the team put a BMI chip in the patient’s head. The chip can receive neural signals from the brain.
After three months of home recovery (康复) training, the patient can now use his brain signals to control a special glove powered by air pressure. This helps him do things like drinking water independently.
BMI technology usually means putting chips directly onto the patient’s brain. However, this project is minimally invasive (微创的), making sure the patient’s brain is not harmed. So it is an important breakthrough (突破). It also uses a wireless power supply (无线电源), so the implanted device doesn’t need a battery.
Li Yuanning from Shanghai Tech University told CCTV News that BMI is now mainly used in the medical field to improve the lives of people with brain-related problems or speech difficulties.
In China, BMI technology is still in the early stages of research, with no products on the market yet. Some people are worried that tests may influence patients’ independence and even who they are. Ethical (伦理的) concerns related to BMI also need to be dealt with. These include whether the patient has a clear understanding of what is going on when they agree to take part in the test.
42. How is the passage mainly organized?
A. By explaining a problem and giving solutions.
B. By telling a story and sharing the writer’s opinions.
C. By comparing different technologies in the medical field.
D. By introducing a technology and its connected information.
43. What can BMI help paralyzed people do according to the passage?
A. Recover from their illness completely.
B. Move and do simple things on their own.
C. Communicate with others without speaking.
D. Control other people’s brains with their thoughts.
44. Why is the BMI project in the passage considered as an important breakthrough?
A. Because it can help paralyzed patients recover completely in a short time.
B. Because it has already been put into wide use in hospitals across China.
C. Because it can help patients control other people’s bodies with their brains.
D. Because it is minimally invasive and uses a wireless power supply without a battery.
45. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Ethical concerns about BMI need to be solved in the future.
B. BMI technology has already been put on the market in China.
C. BMI technology is only used to help paralyzed patients drink water.
D. The patient can use BMI technology in three months at the hospital.

All six-year-old Emmett wanted was a new bike, but his father didn’t want to give it to him easily. So his father came up with a clever idea: he told Emmett he would have to earn money by himself to buy his new bike.
Emmett took on the challenge. He got some old toys together and put them out for sale. To his surprise, he ended up making $70 that day—enough to buy the bike he dreamt of. He was so excited because he could get what he wanted on his own.
The next day, when Emmett and his father were walking around the supermarket, an ice-cream machine caught Emmett’s attention. Emmett kept asking his father if he could get it first so that he could start his own business and make more money.
After a family discussion, Emmett’s parents decided to help him with his business, but he had to sell ice-cream for one hour every Saturday. Then Emmett started his business with only a bag of ice and three flavours (风味). “The first time he made $12, then $17, then $25... Then he spent some of the money buying new flavours. Now Emmett has 18 more flavours and he is planning to save his money for college.” Emmett’s mother said.

【详解】句意:——我们好久没见了!——是的。我在陕西作为一名志愿医生工作了大约两年。并且我上个月回到了扬州。
根据后句“And I came back to Yangzhou last month.”可知,说话人现在已经回到扬州,在陕西做志愿者的动作发生在过去且已经结束,不再持续到现在,因此应用一般过去时。
13. —If you ________ a chance to visit Yangzhou during the autumn holiday, which place will be your first choice?
—The China Grand Canal Museum. With many art treasures inside, it is well worth a visit.
A. are offered B. offer C. will offer D. will be offered
【答案】A
【解析】
【详解】句意:——如果你在秋假期间有机会参观扬州,你会首选哪个地方?——中国大运河博物馆。里面有许多艺术珍宝,非常值得一游。
根据“If you...a chance to visit Yangzhou during the autumn holiday”可知,此处是条件状语从句,遵循“主将从现”原则,主语是动作的承受者,所以用一般现在时的被动语态,主语是you,be动词用are。应填are offered。
14. — Lily, I know you traveled to Yangzhou the other day. Could you tell me ________?
— Sure. Don’t you remember the bookmark of the Bridge of Five Pavilions I gave you?
A. if you have gone to the Slender West Lake B. when did you go to the Slender West Lake
C. if you have been to the Slender West Lake D. when have you been to the Slender West Lake
have gone to 表示“去了某地未回”,have been to 表示“去过某地已回”。根据答语中赠送书签可知莉莉已经回来,强调经历,应用have been to。
15. —Don’t just talk about your plan to visit Yangzhou. You should do it at once.
—You’re right. ________.
A. Actions speak louder than words B. No pain, no gain
C. Practice makes perfect D. The early bird catches the worm
【答案】A
【解析】
【详解】句意:——不要只谈论你去扬州的计划。你应该立刻去做。——你说得对。行动胜于空谈。
Actions speak louder than words行动胜于言语;No pain, no gain没有付出就没有收获;Practice makes perfect熟能生巧;The early bird catches the worm早起的鸟儿有虫吃。根据“Don’t just talk…should do it at once.”可知,对话强调实际行动比口头计划更重要。A 选项“Actions speak louder than words”表示行动胜于空谈,强调行动比言语有力,符合语境。

Beautiful Baoying, My Beautiful Home
Baoying is a beautiful city with a long history. It’s our duty to make it a more beautiful home.
What makes Baoying beautiful? I think it’s the friendly people here. When you walk in the street, neighbors always smile and help each other. Last week, an old lady dropped her fruits, and many people stopped to pick them up. That warmth makes Baoying special.
To make it more beautiful, we can do two things. First, plant more trees in parks to make the air fresher. Second, sort our trash properly so the city stays clean.
