At 11:15 a.m., I set out on a high-altitude training run in California's Sequoia National Park in sunny, 70°F temperatures. I was preparing for a marathon and came to the park for a scenic workout, and to see how close I could get to the 10, 500-foot passes on the top of the Great Western Divide. I climbed five miles and 1,000 feet before the trail's surface became snow-covered and dangerous enough that I had to turn around. On my run, I noted the potential instability of the five-foot-deep snow bridge over Franklin Creek, and I knelt to examine it. There were no visible signs of weakness, and the surface was rock hard-I guessed it could support a truck. I crossed without incident. Conditions past the stream stayed cool for the period of my run, but I expected the lower snow to soften as the day warmed. So when I approached the snow bridge again on my return trip, I examined it thoroughly. I knelt to look through the snow for cracks(裂缝)—danger signs. From my position, however, I couldn't see the bridge's base, which was losing strength as the stream water splashed(飞溅)the icy structure from below. Had I been able to see its base, I might have noted that it had weakened. I was two miles when the bridge collapsed beneath my feet. Falling into the fast-moving, 40°F water, I struggled against the powerful current, trying to stay afloat(漂浮的) and slow my passage through the tunnel. The powerful, snowmelt-fueled current swept me downstream, and I grasped anything that would keep the waist-deep stream from pushing me over the 10-foot waterfall downstream. By the time my freezing fingers caught a branch, the current had swept me 60 feet down a tunnel of ice. I grasped a pencil-size branch, with all my strength and moved slowly out of the rushing water into a cave barely large enough to keep my bent body, out of the powerful stream. I was looking for a way out, but the tunnel extended as far as I could see. In an attempt to calm myself and think clearly, I lay back and stared at the cave's ceiling. Wise or not, my only choice was to cut through the roof of this icy cave. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I had to draw attention to myself. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 一、文本分析 1.角色 ________________________________________________________ 2.视角 第________人称 3. The author went for high-altitude marathon training in a national park--- _________________ --- He checked and crossed a seemingly solid snow bridge safely--- _________________ --- The snow bridge weakened secretly due to running water below--- _________________ --- The bridge collapsed, sweeping him into icy water and an ice cave--- He calmed down and tried to find a way out 4. Why did the author run in the national park? :___________________________________ What did the author think of the snow bridge at first?:_________________________________ Why did the snow bridge become dangerous later?:________________________________________________ What danger did the author face after falling into the water?:__________________________________________ How did the author survive the rushing current?:_____________________________________________ What was the author’s situation in the end of the given text?:_________________________________________________ What would the author do to escape the cave?:________________________________________________________ What does the story tell us?:________________________________________________ 5. I:calm and confident→___________→shocked and terrified→___________→calm and determined→___________(续写) 7. 综合概括(中英各一句) 中文:______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 英文:______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 8. 句式积累 宾语从句;定语从句;状语从句;非谓语;虚拟语气 ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 9. 本文主题 自救成长类:_______________________________________ 二. Paragraph 1: Wise or not, my only choice was to cut through the roof of this icy cave. 1——Why did he choose this way? What did the author think of the snow bridge at first?:It looked solid and firm with no visible cracks, and he believed it was strong enough to bear heavy weight. Why did the snow bridge become dangerous later?:The rising temperature softened the snow, and the running stream splashed and weakened the bridge’s base secretly from below. What danger did the author face after falling into the water?:He was swept by fierce icy current and faced the risk of falling over a downstream waterfall. How did the author survive the rushing current?:He caught a small branch tightly and struggled out of the rushing water into a narrow ice cave. What was the author’s situation in the end of the given text?:Trapped in a dark endless ice cave, he calmed himself down to figure out a way to escape. What would the author do to escape the cave?:He would break the cave ceiling to get fresh air and create chances to attract rescuers’ attention. What does the story tell us?:Hidden dangers exist everywhere. We should never judge things only by their appearance, and staying calm and brave is the key to self-rescue in danger. 5. I:calm and confident→alert and cautious→shocked and terrified→desperate and cold→calm and determined→relieved and insightful(续写) 7. While training in a national park, the author fell into an icy cave due to the hidden collapse of a snow bridge. Trapped in desperation, he stayed calm, took active self-rescue measures and finally got saved, learning never to ignore hidden dangers. 8. Had I been able to see its base, I might have noted that it had weakened. I struggled against the powerful current, trying to stay afloat. I grasped a pencil-size branch, with which I moved out of the rushing water. Conditions past the stream stayed cool but softened as the day warmed. 9. Paragraph 1: Wise or not, my only choice was to cut through the roof of this icy cave. 1——Why did he choose this way? What efforts did he make? Trapped in the closed cave with no other way out, the author tried his best to break the ice ceiling to create an opening for air and escape. Paragraph 2: I had to draw attention to myself. 2——What methods did he use to attract help? What was the final result? He shouted for help and waved objects to signal for rescue, fortunately catching hikers’ attention and getting saved safely. 段落续写范文(150词左右) Wise or not, my only choice was to cut through the roof of this icy cave. Shivering violently in the freezing air, I knew staying trapped meant inevitable danger. Summoning all my remaining strength, I began striking the cave’s icy ceiling with my fists and hard branches. The thick ice resisted firmly at first, but persistent blows gradually created tiny cracks. After endless efforts, a small opening broke through, letting in bright sunlight and fresh air. The hope of survival instantly warmed my frozen body and cheered me up. I had to draw attention to myself. Knowing the hidden cave could hardly be noticed, I shouted for help loudly at intervals and waved pieces of broken ice through the opening. Luckily, a team of passing hikers caught sight of my signal and heard my weak cries. They rushed to rescue me and offered warm supplies. Finally, I escaped the icy cave safely. This narrow escape taught me a valuable lesson: never judge risks merely by appearances, for hidden dangers are the most terrifying enemies in the wild.
