Zhang Xue Motor Makes History at World Championship
On March 28-29, 2026, a Chinese motorcycle brand called “Zhang Xue Motor” won two races at the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) in Portugal. The French rider crossed the finish line nearly 4 seconds ahead of others. This was the first time a Chinese brand won this top-level race, breaking the long monopoly (垄断) of European and Japanese brands.
The man behind this success is 39-year-old Zhang Xue. His story is like a movie. Born in a poor village in Hunan, he dropped out of school at 14 and became a mechanic in a repair shop. His hands were always covered in black oil, but he never gave up his dream.
At 19, Zhang did something crazy. He rode an old motorcycle over 100 kilometers in the rain just to catch a TV reporter. He wanted to show his riding skills. His persistence (坚持) finally paid off.
In 2024, Zhang started his own company in Chongqing. He put all his money into making powerful engines. Many people laughed at him, but he kept working hard.
After winning the championship, Zhang made an unusual rule. He refused to sell his fast motorcycles to new riders with less than one year of experience. “Safety is more important than making money,” he said.

C
At first, I could hardly see anything. After moving down through dark, narrow caves, my eyes were not used to the light. But when I could focus again, I stood in surprise.
“It’s a...sea,” I cried.
“Yes, Axel,” my uncle said, “and I shall give it my name, as I discovered it!”
There was a great lake or even an ocean. The shore was covered with small shells where the first living beings lived. Around this sea stood a huge rock wall.
I could see far over this great sea because of a strange light. Not sunlight, of course, as we were deep below the surface. With its bright, clear whiteness, the light must have been electric.
We kept quiet inside a cave that must have been several miles high.
Human words cannot describe the discoveries of those who have been deep into the earth. My imagination was powerless before such wonders. I felt surprised and quite scared at the same time. However, the soft salty air cheered me up. After many days in much narrower spaces, it was a great relief.
“Ready to walk a little now?” asked my uncle. “Yes, certainly.”
“Well, let us follow the shore then,” he said, and we began to explore.
Soon, in front of us appeared a forest with trees like umbrellas. “Mushrooms!” said my uncle. And he was right! There were mushrooms in their thousands, and each was at least nine metres high. How excellent they were!
“Wonderful!” cried my uncle. “Now look under your feet.”
I hadn’t noticed the many bones under our feet as we walked. Suddenly I thought, if once these monsters lived here, might some still walk through these dark forests? I looked around nervously, but we were the only living beings in this underworld. Thankfully!
Finally, we returned to the cave we had entered from, and I went to sleep with strange thoughts.
Where did this underground sea end? Where would we go?
—Adapted from A Journey to the Centre of the Earth
26. Which of the following pictures can we add to the story?
A. B. C. D.
27. Which of the following describes things the same way as the underlined sentence?
A. The boy was so hungry that he could eat a horse. B. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
C. The girl was as brave as a lion when facing problems. D. She sells special and stylish seashells by the seashore.
28. What is the RIGHT order of the story?
① Axel and his uncle saw many mushrooms. ② Axel slept with strange thoughts.
③ Axel guessed that the light was electric. ④ Axel’s uncle discovered a great sea.
⑤ Axel and his uncle walked on the bones.
A. ④③②①⑤ B. ④③①⑤② C. ③①②④⑤ D. ③①④⑤②
29. Why did Axel’s feelings change so many times during the journey?
A. Because the underground world was too dark. B. Because he was unable to think in a clear way.
C. Because he was so tired that he wanted to sleep. D. Because the journey was full of the unexpected.
30. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The strange light came from the sun deep under the ground.
B. The writer was completely fearless during the whole exploration.
C. The writer’s uncle took pride in discovering the underground sea.
D. They found many living monsters in the dark underground forest.
A 27. C 28. B 29. D 30. C
“Soon in front of us appeared a forest with trees like umbrellas. ‘Mushrooms!’ said my uncle...There were mushrooms in their thousands, and each was at least nine metres high.”
C“The girl was as brave as a lion when facing problems.”
Axel,’ my uncle said, ‘and I shall give it my name, as I discovered it!’”;第五段“With its bright, clear whiteness, the light must have been electric.”;倒数第五段“Soon in front of us appeared a forest with trees like umbrellas. ‘Mushrooms!’ said my uncle.”;倒数第三段“I hadn’t noticed the many bones under our feet as we walked.”以及倒数第二段“Finally, we returned to the cave we had entered from, and I went to sleep with strange thoughts.”
叔叔的话“I shall give it my name, as I discovered it!”

⑤ Axel and his uncle walked on the bones.
A. ④③②①⑤ B. ④③①⑤② C. ③①②④⑤ D. ③①④⑤②

A. Because the underground world was too dark. B. Because he was unable to think in a clear way.

30. What can we infer from the passage?
