With the development of camping at home and abroad, more and more people have strong interest in camping. Camping provides outdoor lovers with the relaxation of the mind and inner peace. Here are some common ways to camp.
Tent Camping
This is the most basic and common way of camping. You can put up a tent in a park, on the beach, in the woods, or anywhere else you like, enjoying a few nights. Tent camping is a great choice for people who don’t want to spend a lot of money to get started. It is perfect for families with children because it creates a special time for parents and kids.
Hiking Camping
Hiking camping, backpacking trip, means an outdoor camp, where you will spend the whole day hiking with necessary equipment on your back. It can last anywhere from a few days to several months. It gives you the chance to get closer to nature. In case of an emergency(紧急情况), you’d better share your travel plans with someone.
Survival Camping
In this type of camping, a variety of skills are required to learn in order to survive in various outdoor conditions. You will search for food on your own in the wild and take emergency medical measures in the event of danger. It would be a good idea to have a partner with a wealth of experience in the wild.
RV Camping
If you go camping in a motorhome, you will have more time to enjoy the outdoors. With a motorhome, you have almost everything at home, including comfortable beds, kitchens and entertainment. All you need is to find a suitable parking lot where you can park your car. You can also cook and enjoy food in the car and it will feel great. However, this is not recommended for starters.

On a bright, sunny day along the Crooked River in central Oregon, kids are fishing. But what’s happening in that river runs much deeper than catching a fish — exactly what Chad Brown was hoping for when he started Soul River. The Portland-based non-profit offers an escape into nature for kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
Chad had been in a bad car accident. Since then, he’s been dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trying to escape the anxiety and nightmares. “I seemed to be lifeless. I couldn’t feel the air. I couldn’t feel the grass. I couldn’t smile,” he said. But when a friend took him fishing, he regained energy and life. “That brought me into the present where I could actually feel the air, feel the currents, that I’m standing in water... It made me feel alive.”
It was a turning point in Chad’s life. Drawing on the strength he found in nature, Chad discovered his life’s purpose and founded Soul River to share the healing power of nature, rivers, and fishing with at-risk inner-city youth.
In the process of enjoying nature, Chad realized that nature itself also needs to be protected, so he developed a program that takes youth into an environment where fresh water, land, wildlife, or local cultures are threatened. He works with conservation groups and Native American communities to determine which areas could use their attention and advocacy. Often, the locations are remote and extreme.
The goals of the program are layered. For the youth, it’s an opportunity to learn about leadership, relationship-building, and being integral to a community. Then, there’s a conservation and advocacy component, where the group learns about the environment they’re taken into, the specific threats it faces, and how they can be a force for good. The experience can help them find their own “Soul River” — their purpose, passion, their connection to the outdoors and to each other.
For Chad, it’s a busy, nonstop cycle of planning, preparation, meetings, advocacy, and so on.
4. What motivated Chad to start Soul River?
A. His remarkable outdoor skills.
B. His work in wildlife conservation.
C. His childhood fishing experiences.
D. His desperate struggle with PTSD.
5. What is the key feature of Chad’s program?
A. Teaching youth fishing techniques. B. Encouraging youth to explore new cities.
C. Connecting youth with remote wildness. D. Involving youth in community-building.
6. How might Chad’s program impact youth?
A. It enables them to learn from great leaders.
B. It promotes their growth and eco-awareness.
C. It pushes them to pursue environmental careers.
D. It improves their survival skills in extreme conditions.
7. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Discovering Your Soul River in Nature
B. Empowering Youth Through Leadership
C. Healing PTSD Through Outdoor Adventures
D. Joining Soul River to Protect Local Cultures
C
Sometimes there are hidden patterns in numbers you might not immediately notice. One example of this is in barcodes (条形码), the sequences (序列) of digits we use to identify products. Try it yourself — find an object with a 13-digit barcode. Books won’t work, since they use a slightly different system, but magazines do, so you can use a copy of New Scientist. Add together the first, third, and fifth digits and so on, to get the sum of the odd-numbered digits; then, add up the even digits. If you triple (使成为三倍) the even sum, and then add it to the original odd sum, the total should be a multiple of 10, ending in 0.
This isn’t just by chance: a barcode contains a checksum to make sure it is read correctly. Most of the digits are there to communicate information. The first two numbers show the country. The next 10 digits are more specific information about the product and who produced it. The purpose of the final digit is to detect errors or changes in the data, such as entering one digit incorrectly. This would give a checksum that isn’t a multiple of 10, allowing us to catch the error.
All kinds of systems have checksums: ISBNs on books, which use a similar system based on multiples of 11; UK driver’s license numbers, which have two extra check digits at the end; and credit card numbers, meaning a website can tell you have entered it incorrectly before even checking with your bank. They all use variations of the same system, performing a simple calculation with the digits that confirms the number is correct.
It won’t eradicate all errors — for barcodes, there is still a 1 in 10 chance the checksum will come out as a multiple of 10 even if there is an error — but it greatly reduces them. It also doesn’t tell you what the error is, so all you can do is try again. But it saves time that would otherwise be wasted trying to process incorrect numbers, and it is a clever use of math that makes the whole system work better.
8. What does the author want to show by using barcodes as an example?
A. Numbers work in unseen ways. B. Identifying products is complicated.
C. Math needs a lot of hands-on practice. D. Magazines differ from books in publication.
9. What function does the final digit in a barcode serve?
A. To inform the quality of a product. B. To balance the odd and even digits.
C. To show where the product is made. D. To check whether the data is correct.
10. What can be inferred about checksums from paragraph 3?
A. They work based on similar principles.
B. They originate from the publishing industry.
C. They need a system with powerful calculations.
D. They cause safety issues in the banking industry.
11. What does the underlined word “eradicate” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Reserve. B. Record. C. Remove. D. Repeat.
D
It’s hard to predict which songs will become hits. It’s even more difficult to predict which artists topping today’s charts will go on to record more hits. Now a study provides some tips about how to avoid being a one-hit wonder.
Artists with more variety in their field have a better chance to land repeat hits, says Justin Berg, a social scientist who researches creativity and innovation. But there’s a dilemma for artists who want to be popular over the long term. Variety isn’t what helps artists land that first hit, Berg reports. It’s the similarity of a new song to recent hits.
Berg used a database of about 3 million songs from 1959-2010 and then turned to a system that rates songs on 11 variables (变量), including danceability, energy and key. Berg then noted how closely related hit songs were to the hits from the previous calendar year. He also made portfolios (作品选集) for most of the artists who had at least one hit song, so he studied the variety and novelty (新颖) of the songs they had created at the time of their first hit.
Berg found that musical artists with what he termed low-creativity portfolios that were closely similar to other already existing music were about twice as likely to have early success. But those who had more creative music were more likely to achieve a series of hits.
Since the data end in 2010, the research might fail to show the current state of popular music, according to Noah Askin, a computational social scientist. “Musicians are changing how they write songs to make them more attractive on TikTok,” says Askin. “So much of it now is: How memorable is a given song?”
Berg doesn’t want his research to play down the achievements of one-hit wonders. “A lot of them in their time were quite famous and successful,” he says. “You go out and try to make a song that catchy. It’s not an easy challenge.”
12. What helps a singer achieve lasting success according to Berg?
A. Good taste in music. B. The variety of their works.
C. Personal connections in the industry. D. Their music’s similarity to recent hits.
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The historical-development of pop music. B. The social functions of pop music.
C. The findings of Berg’s research. D. The process of Berg’s research.
14. What does Askin think of Berg’s research?
A. It might be the first of its kind. B. It may be out of date.
C. It could inspire new TikTok hits. D. It would raise questions among musicians.
15. What is Berg’s attitude towards one-hit wonders?
A. Worried. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Carefree.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We all experience moments like this: a friend doesn’t reply to your message, or someone walks right past you without noticing. Most people move on quickly, but for those who are sensitive to rejection, these small moments feel heavy. ____16____.
Rejection sensitivity means often expecting others to reject you, even when there is no real sign of it. People who think this way pay too much attention to others’ words, tone, or silence. A late reply can feel like “They don’t like me,” and a serious face may seem like “They’re upset with me.” Because of this fear, they try to protect themselves by avoiding eye contact, keeping quiet, or pulling away. ____17____ — sometimes creating the very rejection they were afraid of. The good news is that gentle, intentional habits can help.
Challenge your first reaction. Feelings are not facts. When your mind jumps to the worst explanation, pause and ask: What else could this mean?____18____. Try writing down at least two neutral (中性的) possibilities before accepting the negative one. This simple practice helps calm emotional overreaction.
Express your needs openly. People with rejection sensitivity often hide their feelings, hoping others will understand without being told. ____19____. Try speaking clearly and kindly: “When I didn’t hear back, I felt a bit unsure. Could we talk later?” Honest communication builds trust and reduces unnecessary worry.
____20____. If someone reaches out to you, offer a small sign of openness — a smile, a short reply, or a simple “thank you.” These small gestures show that you welcome connection. Over time, they help soften the habit of pulling away.
A. Pursue stronger bonds with others
B. But silence easily causes confusion
C. Respond warmly when others show care
D. They are always searching for ways to relieve their anxiety
E. Sadly, this distance can make them seem cold or unfriendly
F. They may immediately assume something is wrong with them
G. Perhaps the other person is busy, stressed, or simply distracted

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“If Mum finds out that I’m going to the beach, I’ll be in big trouble.” I said to myself softly in a low voice.
I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, Mum asked without looking up from her dish-washing, “Where are you going?” I answered back without hesitation, “I’m going to the garden to play.” After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sigh of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far. I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed.
After half an hour, I was at the beach searching the crowd for my friends Jimmy and Bobby. Two young men were racing in canoes. After a while, I saw my friends near a tree. I ran towards them. For about an hour, we played volleyball happily on the beach.
Suddenly, Bobby hit the ball too hard and it fell into the sea. Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, a wave came and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills, so I volunteered to help get the ball.
I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me. At that moment, a string of weed tangled up my feet and I could not swim properly. I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
After struggling for a minute or two, I got pulled underwater.

However, I have encountered a tricky problem in selecting English poetry, for which I sincerely hope that you could recommend one to me. Besides, I’ve been exerting myself to read poems, yet I fail to grasp the skills of it. Would you be kind enough to provide me with professional guidance?
Your generous assistance and immediate response are enthusiastically expected and truly appreciated.
Yours,
Li Hua

After struggling for a minute or two, I got pulled underwater. I told myself I should never give up. So I pulled the weed again with great effort, desperately trying to free myself from the entanglement. The weed finally broke. I swam back to the surface to take a deep breath. I saw two young men in canoes, racing each other. I burned the last of my energy and called out for help. The two men saw me and raced towards me. By the time they reached me, I was already unconscious.
When I woke up, I was lying on a hospital bed. Surrounding me were concerned faces — Jimmy and Bobby. They told me the two young men brought me to the shore and sent me to the hospital. After a few minutes, my parents, with half angry and half worried faces, walked in. They scolded me for running out of the house secretly, but were glad that I was not seriously injured. I will never forget that terrifying experience. Neither will I ever want to show off again.
