On May 2, the Writers Guild of America called on its 11,500 members to begin a strike (罢工) in Hollywood, California, and New York City in the US. It is the first writers’ strike in more than 15 years, causing many new projects to stop.
① One big issue behind the WGA strike is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) programs. The WGA demanded that AI not be allowed to write or rewrite literary (文学的) material or be used as source material.
Creative AI programs like ChatGPT can now create human-like literary works. Writers are worried that media companies might someday use AI instead of people to make scripts for movies and TV shows. This might bring plagiarism (抄袭) problems as AI usually creates scripts based on a writer’s work. ②
③ At the same time, using AI to write scripts has a big impact on writers’ pay. As Warren Leight, an executive producer, said, studios might let AI create a first draft, then hire people to do a second draft, which pays less. This makes writers want to “nip that in the bud”
AI is already being used in the entertainment industry in other ways, such as making actors appear younger and removing dirty words, said Fortune magazine.
④ As James Perry, a TV actor and vice-chair of the WGA’s Disabled Writers Committee told Reuters, “This is a crisis (危机) for writers.”
36. What is the main reason for the WGA members strike?
A. Many writers cannot find jobs.
B. The writers want a raise.
C. Writers don’t want AI to be used to create and rewrite scripts.
D. Many new projects have recently been stopped.
37. What do the plagiarism problems in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Writers creating scripts based on AI drafts. B. Writers copying other writers’ works.
C. AI producing no creative works. D. AI writing scripts based on a writer’s works.
38. What does the underlined phrase mean?
A. Writers are happy to see that. B. Writers want to stop that from happening.
C. Writers don’t care about that. D. Writers think it’s possible.
39. In which place can this sentence “Although AI is not set to replace human writers anytime soon, the possibility is still there.” be put?
A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④
40. What might be James Perry’s idea?
A. AI brings a sense of crisis to writers. B. AI is affecting the industry in a positive way.
C. AI will replace writers soon. D. AI doing most jobs is a historical trend.
【答案】36. C 37. D 38. B 39. B 40. A

根据第二段“One big issue behind the WGA strike is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) programs. The WGA demanded that AI not be allowed to write or rewrite literary (文学的) material or be used as source material.”可知,此次WGA罢工的核心矛盾是人工智能的使用,WGA要求禁止AI创作或改写文学内容。
【37题详解】
根据第三段“This might bring plagiarism (抄袭) problems as AI usually creates scripts based on a writer’s work.”可知,AI生成内容本质上是基于已有作家的作品创作,因此会带来抄袭问题。
【38题详解】
根据第四段“As Warren Leight, an executive producer, said, studios might let AI create a first draft, then hire people to do a second draft, which pays less. This makes writers want to ‘nip that in the bud’”可知,工作室让AI写初稿,只雇佣作家修改第二稿,作家薪酬会降低,因此作家想要阻止这种情况发生。
【39题详解】
根据第三段“This might bring plagiarism (抄袭) problems as AI usually creates scripts based on a writer’s work.”可知,作家担心未来AI会取代人类写剧本、还会带来抄袭问题。“Although AI is not set to replace human writers anytime soon, the possibility is still there.”正好承接上文的担忧,逻辑连贯,所以应放在②处。
【40题详解】
根据最后一段James的话“This is a crisis (危机) for writers.”可知,他认为AI给作家带来了危机感。
C
During the last few years of his life, my dad lived just up the road from me in a tiny house. He had been alone for over 20 years after I lost my mom. His own mother had recently passed away too. He was disabled and retired so he spent a lot of time alone.
Several times a week, though, I would take a walk up to his house. We would sit in the living room, drink tea and talk. It wasn’t anything big. We talked about sports, cars, gardening, weather, and enjoyed a laugh over old memories. It wasn’t anything too deep. It was just a simple sharing, a connection between a father and a son. An hour spent just enjoying each other’s company. Those afternoons remain some of my happiest times spent with my dad. It allowed us to gently heal (治愈) any old wounds we had given each other when I was growing up. It allowed us to silently give each other time and love. It allowed us to grow closer together before he left this world.
I know that when my own time in this world is done, I will get to spend another afternoon with my dad. We will sit, talk, catch up and quietly enjoy each other’s company. We will share all the love we didn’t get to share. And we will remember that afternoon forever.
If there is one thing that I learned from those afternoons, it is this: It is never too late to spend time with those you love. It is never too late to tell them that you love them. It is never too late to heal a relationship and mend a hurting heart. Begin today! Spend an afternoon with those you love and those afternoons will become a lifetime.

42. When he was visiting his dad, he did a lot of things with him EXCEPT ________?
A. drinking tea in the living room B. laughing happily during the talk
C. talking about life and memories D. taking his dad to walk up to his house
43. What is the purpose of Paragraph 3?
A. To imagine a beautiful future for his dad.
B. To advise people to spend afternoons nicely.
C. To show the author’s expectations for his children.
D. To show that the writer values the time spent with his dad.
44. What does the author want to tell us?
A. There is no need to heal a relationship. B. Spend more time with the ones we love.
C. It is never too late to learn to be a parent. D. Don’t wait for others to mend your hurting heart.
【答案】41. C 42. D 43. D 44. B

Noisy neighbors are a problem in a society where many people live closely together. And this can be the most important when you share walls, floors or ceilings with neighbors in a flat—noisy neighbor can make life challenging, especially if noise goes well into night, or happens during early morning hours. This situation needs to be dealt with properly, which needs your ability to keep calm.
First, you should try to tell your neighbors about the noise. This conversation should be polite and friendly. It can begin with words like “I am not sure you know that.” Explain the problem in an honest way, and ask the neighbors to turn down the music, or not to hold parties until 3 a.m. You can also say that you realize they hear your noise too, and you’re willing to try to stop anything in your behavior that is creating much noise.
You should know that not all neighbors are going to follow your requirements, and some may act in a bad manner. If the noisy neighbors don’t change their behaviors, the next step should be to write the neighbors a letter. The letter should show your grievances (不满) and the dates when the noise was quite terrible. For example, if your neighbor has loud gatherings every Friday night that last into the early morning, then write down those dates.
When the noise remains going on, you should report it to local authorities (当地政府部门), or even call the police, when it is really necessary. Often, however, you can solve the problem when the noisy neighbor knows you are going to call the police.
Be aware that you can’t always make noisy neighbors be quiet. When the noise remains going on, it is wise not to deal with it in an angry way. If you have completed the steps and letter don’t start hitting walls or floors around in your home or turning up the music to make your neighbors angry. Just have patience and remember that communication is the most important.

A. drinking tea in the living room B. laughing happily during the talk
C. talking about life and memories D. taking his dad to walk up to his house

A. To imagine a beautiful future for his dad.
B. To advise people to spend afternoons nicely.
C. To show the author’s expectations for his children.
D. To show that the writer values the time spent with his dad.
44. What does the author want to tell us?

七、任务型阅读(每小题1分,共10分)
