When I 1. (be) six, my grandfather introduced the Beijing Opera to me, and I fell in love 2. it immediately.  I like the Beijing Opera for many reasons. First, the actors wear 3. (colour) masks. Each colour stands for a different type of character. For example, a red mask 4. (mean) a good guy, and a white mask means a bad person. 5. (two), I think the great acting of the Beijing Opera is 6. (real) amazing. There are four main 7. (role) in different tales—Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chou. Each plays its part in 8. (it) own way. Third, I like the singing style 9. the music. The singing style of the Beijing Opera is very popular among its fans, and 10. traditional Chinese instruments like the erhu and suona make the music so pleasant to me.  I hope more people around the world can enjoy this great art. C Night schools are nothing new today. Li Mei is 1. engineer in the day. But in the evening, she becomes a student at a night school in Chengdu. She is trying new 2. (hobby) with her 5-year-old son, such as cooking and singing. She used to spend evenings 3. (watch) her son play in the park. Young people who want to look 5. new skills and friends go to night schools.  In the 1980s, many people 6. (go) to night schools for further education. However, night schools were gone because more people got higher education. Some new night schools came to Shanghai last autumn. Then more night schools 7. (quick) appeared in other cities. For example, Miss Wang from Deyang thinks that night schools are good places for her 8. (make) friends. “I used to spend much of my time alone. I have felt more connected with modern society 9. I became a student of the night school,” she said.  Young people wish to make 10. (them) better so that their daily lives can be meaningful. That has made night schools develop rapidly.  D You may not realise it, but you are doing more than just studying when you are at school. School is also the place 1. you learn to get along with people. However, this is not always easy. What can you do if you just don't like one of your 2. (classmate)?  If you discover that you can't get along with your classmates or friends, one of 3. (important) things to learn is tolerance(宽容). Tolerance is the ability 4. (realise) and respect the differences in others. We can't change the ways that other people do things, so it is important to learn to live happily 5. them.  If everyone learn tolerance, they 6. (get) on better with each other. Knowing others constantly(不断地) also lets us understand 7. (others) differences.  Something different does not 8. (exact) mean that it is bad. Tolerance teaches us how to keep an even temper(温和的脾气) and 9. open mind.  10. an old saying goes, “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” The world is very different, and practising tolerance in your own school and city can help make things better.  E According to a report of CCTV, more and more 24-hour libraries are open even on weekday nights. Now, besides cafés and parks, there is another place for people 1. (go) after work in the evening.  Ye, a 26-year-old girl from Shandong, finds it convenient for working people like her. “The 2. (tradition) local libraries usually open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. 3. , I can only study early in the morning or late at night,” Ye said. She 4. (normal) goes to a 24-hour library in Weihai every day. “It is very good for studying although there are some people 5. sleep there or leave books around,” she added.  The Beijing Library is one 6. the 24-hour libraries across the country. Since opening its doors, it 7. (become) a cultural symbol, welcoming 4.28 million 8. (visitor). By offering services even when the main library 9. (close), the 24-hour zone better meets the needs of different readers.  People's longing for public cultural spaces like libraries shows 10. improvement of our country. For them, visiting museums, libraries, and exhibition halls is not just a relaxation(放松), but a way of life.  F Maps have been an important tool for humans for thousands of years. They were 1. (one) created to meet people's basic needs. In the past, people 2. (need) maps to find directions. As society developed, people also used maps for travelling, exploration and trade.  In ancient times, maps were drawn 3. hand. They were usually very simple. People used symbols and pictures to show important places and routes(路线).  As time passed, maps became more detailed(详细的). Some map makers started to use new ways 4. (create) maps. They included more information about the world in maps, such as the locations of 5. (city) and rivers. This made maps more useful for planning trips and looking for new places.  During the Age of Exploration, map-making skills improved 6. (great). Many explorers went to new places and brought back 7. (they) findings. This helped map makers create more accurate(精确的) maps of the world.  Today, we have electronic maps on computers and smartphones. They can suggest 8. best routes, provide real-time traffic conditions and recommend nearby attractions, which makes it possible to save time. Therefore, our 9. (day) lives become more convenient.  Maps have changed over time, 10. their purpose remains the same: to help people understand and find their ways around the world.  I There was a school writing competition. Harriet really wanted to take part in it. She loved writing, but lately, she just couldn't stop being worried. Many times she 1. (look) at the blank(空白的) page in her notebook, wishing the words to come, but they remained hard to find.  Then Zoe, 2. new student, moved into their class. Everything about her showed light and energy. Why did Zoe always seem so sunny? Harriet hoped 3. (find) it out.  Her chance came in the sports class when they 4. (be) on the same running team. “Where do you get all your energy from?” Harriet 5. (sudden) said out loud during a break. Zoe smiled and said, “Lie down.” Being surprised, Harriet followed Zoe and lay down on the grass. Then, they both looked up at the white and soft 6. (cloud) above them. “Isn't this amazing?” Zoe asked. “We spend too much time looking 7. , at our phones, at our feet, but not enough time looking up.”   Keeping Zoe's words in mind, Harriet felt 8. (active) than ever. She started noticing some amazing details in 9. (she) daily life, like the interesting conversations during breaks and the breathtaking sunlight pouring down on the ground. The school day was 10. wonderful that Harriet would remember it forever. That night, with great ideas flowing(流动) like a spring, Harriet smoothly finished her article.  J What is a teacher? Well, a teacher is someone who teaches. They say things, and you remember them. But it was not until I met my music teacher that I realised this definition(定义) was too shallow(肤浅的). When I 1. (one) arrived at my music class at school, I had almost no knowledge of how to play the flute(长笛). I couldn't get the basic notes right. It seemed like a dream for me to perform in front of the school. 2. , my music teacher, Mr Nevola, encouraged me 3. (work) toward my dreams.  It took him a lot of time to find the right flute book for me and he spent extra(额外的)time 4. (teach) me. When I was 5. (able) to remember the notes, he taught me the trick:FACE.F means “fa”; A means “la”; C means “do”; E means “mi”. This way I could remember the notes much 6. (quick).  He also tried to make music class fun. We played games that helped develop our sense of rhythm(节奏感) and shared our favourite pieces on certain days. We talked about the background of music pieces from all over the world and learned about the 7. (develop) of music in the US. Sometimes when we were too tired, instead of forcing us to practise our instruments, Mr Nevola would talk about 8. (relax) things.  Thanks to Mr Nevola, I truly fell in love 9. the flute. After six months, I was able to blow seven notes in one breath. While this might not seem like a huge accomplishment(成就), I am still proud of it and thankful to Mr Nevola who helped me make 10. happen.  Now, you see, a good teacher is someone who can make learning fun. K The Friendship John and James were best friends. They 1. (fight) for many reasons, but never gave 2. their friendship. They visited many places in their travel 3. (experience). They passed through various villages, towns, and forests. They supported each other throughout the journey.  One day, they reached a desert. They had 4. (little) food and water than before. John said that they should save the food and water for later use. However, James disagreed. He wanted to drink water, 5. he was very thirsty. They quarrelled with each other for the water. John hit James, and they walked in silence.  James wrote on the sand, “My best friend hit me!” 6. (final), they reached a river. They were very happy, and had a lot of fun in the water. While they both were bathing, James was a little careless and nearly killed himself. John rushed to him and saved him. James hugged his friend and thanked 7. (he). They had a little rest and decided 8. (leave) the place. When they were about to leave, James carved something on a rock. It was “My best friend saved my life!”  He said to John, “When you hit me, I recorded it on the sand. 9. wind would have blown it away by now. However, when you saved my life, I recorded it on the rock. It will remain there forever.”  We have to forget the bad things and value the good things that 10. (do) to us with kindness.  L The winter in China is quite different from that in other countries. That's because in winter, we celebrate the Spring Festival. It is 1. (important) time of the year for us Chinese people.    I'm glad to say that I have 2. traditional but special way of celebrating it: writing couplets. When I stick the red couplets onto the door, the freezing world full of white snow 3. (sudden) seems much warmer. It's a feeling that's very special to me.    In fact, I 4. (learn) calligraphy(书法) since the age of six. To start with, I was afraid to put a brush to the paper. 5. the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”, so I kept 6. (practise) calligraphy in my spare time.  Little by little, I mastered the skill. My Chinese brush finally danced gracefully on the paper and each brush was filled 7. power and confidence.   This year, I even gifted couplets to a foreign neighbour. Surprisingly, he developed a strong love for calligraphy! 8. proud I was!  Now I realise that writing couplets isn't just about art, dreams and 9. (wish), but also a bridge to spread our rich culture. Each character on the couplets reminds 10. (we) that traditions won't be cancelled(终止). Instead, we can pass them on and even spread them to the world.  M It is useful to know more about table manners, especially when one might travel to foreign countries. In India, you 1. (expect) to wash your hands before and after a meal. And remember to eat with the right hand. You can't waste food. You should finish everything on the plate. The time you leave the table depends on 2. all the guests complete their meals or not.  In Japan, before eating, 3. (polite) wait for your host's invitation three times. The 4. (young) guest at the table pours drinks for the eldest one first, and then for 5. rest of the diners. You can't pass food from one pair of chopsticks 6. another. When women use chopsticks to bring food to 7. (they) mouths, they need to put the hands under the food, 8. men needn't do so. While eating hot noodles, it is acceptable(可接受的) 9. (make) an eating noise as the Japanese think this noise makes the food more delicious.   In Pakistan, people start the meal when the eldest member of the family has taken a seat at the table. One should always keep quiet. Always break the bread into 10. (piece), and you can only use your right hand.  N Lunar calendars depend on the position of the moon. So the date of the new year changes each year, and different 1. (place) start the new year at different times. In China and in many other places, people usually celebrate Lunar New Year in January or February.  Each year in the lunar calendar 2. (name) after an animal. The first year is the Year of the Rat. The second year is the Year of the Ox. The 3. (three) year is the Year of the Tiger, then the Year of the Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. After 12 years, the animals repeat. This means that after the Year of the Pig, it's 4. Year of the Rat again. And every animal has certain meanings. 5. example, the rabbit is kind and polite. So if you were born in the Year of the Rabbit, you are 6. (probable) kind and polite! Chinese people love the idea, even though it's just 7. (people) good wishes.  On New Year's Eve, Chinese people lay the table and have a big meal with families. Chinese people also set off firecrackers. They make a loud noise 8. (drive) away the monster “nian”. In South Korea, families have the tradition of playing 9. (tradition) board games together.   During Lunar New Year, children give their parents and grandparents good wishes for the new year.Older members of the family give children money, usually in small packets(小包). These packets are red in China, 10. red is a lucky colour.  People celebrate Lunar New Year in many different ways, but all the celebrations are about wishing everyone good things. O Many people post things online. Online sharing is a part of our daily life now. Different kinds of apps and websites make communication 1. (easy) than before. We can share what has happened recently 2. others. We can also give personal opinions on what we see.   The Internet 3. (connect) us with friends, family, and even people in other countries. Sometimes, when we win a prize in a singing competition 4. do well in a test, we may share the happy news online. At times, when we take photos of beautiful views, we might also post them to share.   5. , not everything shared online is kind. Some can be unfriendly. Those unkind words may have unpleasant influences. Maybe people post things without thinking. They just want to play 6. joke and make others laugh. But these are not good reasons.   Good shares can make the online world warm and 7. (friend), while bad ones can bring trouble to others. So when we want to share something on the Internet, we should ask 8. (our) whether the things we post are proper or not. Think twice before 9. (share). We should be responsible for what we share online. Never make up or spread anything that is not true. In short, always respect others' 10. (feeling). If we can't do that, maybe we're not ready to share online yet.  P There is a special jug(罐) on our kitchen table. I put some small pieces of paper and a pen next to the jug. Anyone in my family is free to write down something good that has happened 1. (recent). With pieces of paper in it, the jug 2. (call) “Good Things Jug”.  Many good things happen in a year. At 3. end of the year, we get together to empty the jug. We take turns to read the “Good Things” aloud. Some of the things are 4. (interest), some are serious, and some just give hope.  Over the past twelve 5. (month), there have been many difficult things in our family. Noticing the “Good Things” has helped us go through the hard time. Here are a few things from the “Good Things Jug”:  “Jim and I went camping with our parents. There we taught my pet cat 6. to clap(拍) with his feet.”  “With my parents' care, I was well again after a serious illness. I'm so 7. (thank) to my parents for their love. It's the best thing on earth!”  “Dad got a better job today!” Our “Good Things Jug” is full 8. love, hope and happiness. The little messages remind 9. (we) that we can always expect good things to come, even during difficult times. Therefore, I encourage you 10. (create) your “Good Things Jug” today. I am sure it will make a big difference in your future life.  答案解析 A A New York dad Brian Benson and his graduating daughter Riley are becoming popular. It was “My best friend saved my life!”  He said to John, “When you hit me, I recorded it on the sand. 9. The wind would have blown it away by now. However, when you saved my life, I recorded it on the rock. It will remain there forever.”  We have to forget the bad things and value the good things that 10. are done (do) to us with kindness.  L The winter in China is quite different from that in other countries. That's because in winter, we celebrate the Spring Festival. It is 1. the most important (important) time of the year for us Chinese people.    I'm glad to say that I have 2. a traditional but special way of celebrating it: writing couplets. When I stick the red couplets onto the door, the freezing world full of white snow 3. suddenly (sudden) seems much warmer. It's a feeling that's very special to me.    In fact, I 4. have learned/have learnt (learn) calligraphy(书法) since the age of six. To start with, I was afraid to put a brush to the paper. 5. As the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”, so I kept 6. practising (practise) calligraphy in my spare time.  Little by little, I mastered the skill. My Chinese brush finally danced gracefully on the paper and each brush was filled 7. with power and confidence.   This year, I even gifted couplets to a foreign neighbour. Surprisingly, he developed a strong love for calligraphy! 8. How proud I was!  Now I realise that writing couplets isn't just about art, dreams and 9. wishes (wish), but also a bridge to spread our rich culture. Each character on the couplets reminds 10. us (we) that traditions won't be cancelled(终止). Instead, we can pass them on and even spread them to the world.  M It is useful to know more about table manners, especially when one might travel to foreign countries. In India, you 1. are expected (expect) to wash your hands before and after a meal. And remember to eat with the right hand. You can't waste food. You should finish everything on the plate. The time you leave the table depends on 2. whether all the guests complete their meals or not.  In Japan, before eating, 3. politely (polite) wait for your host's invitation three times. The 4. youngest (young) guest at the table pours drinks for the eldest one first, and then for 5. the rest of the diners. You can't pass food from one pair of chopsticks 6. to another. When women use chopsticks to bring food to 7. their (they) mouths, they need to put the hands under the food, 8. but/while men needn't do so. While eating hot noodles, it is acceptable(可接受的) 9. to make (make) an eating noise as the Japanese think this noise makes the food more delicious.   In Pakistan, people start the meal when the eldest member of the family has taken a seat at the table. One should always keep quiet. Always break the bread into 10. pieces (piece), and you can only use your right hand.  N Lunar calendars depend on the position of the moon. So the date of the new year changes each year, and different 1. places (place) start the new year at different times. In China and in many other places, people usually celebrate Lunar New Year in January or February.  Each year in the lunar calendar 2. is named (name) after an animal. The first year is the Year of the Rat. The second year is the Year of the Ox. The 3. third (three) year is the Year of the Tiger, then the Year of the Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. After 12 years, the animals repeat. This means that after the Year of the Pig, it's 4. the Year of the Rat again. And every animal has certain meanings. 5. For example, the rabbit is kind and polite. So if you were born in the Year of the Rabbit, you are 6. probably (probable) kind and polite! Chinese people love the idea, even though it's just 7. people's (people) good wishes.  On New Year's Eve, Chinese people lay the table and have a big meal with families. Chinese people also set off firecrackers. They make a loud noise 8. to drive (drive) away the monster “nian”. In South Korea, families have the tradition of playing 9. traditional (tradition) board games together.   During Lunar New Year, children give their parents and grandparents good wishes for the new year.Older members of the family give children money, usually in small packets(小包). These packets are red in China, 10. because red is a lucky colour.  People celebrate Lunar New Year in many different ways, but all the celebrations are about wishing everyone good things. O Many people post things online. Online sharing is a part of our daily life now. Different kinds of apps and websites make communication 1. easier (easy) than before. We can share what has happened recently 2. with others. We can also give personal opinions on what we see.   The Internet 3. connects (connect) us with friends, family, and even people in other countries. Sometimes, when we win a prize in a singing competition 4. or do well in a test, we may share the happy news online. At times, when we take photos of beautiful views, we might also post them to share.   5. However , not everything shared online is kind. Some can be unfriendly. Those unkind words may have unpleasant influences. Maybe people post things without thinking. They just want to play 6. a joke and make others laugh. But these are not good reasons.   Good shares can make the online world warm and 7. friendly (friend), while bad ones can bring trouble to others. So when we want to share something on the Internet, we should ask 8. ourselves (our) whether the things we post are proper or not. Think twice before 9. sharing (share). We should be responsible for what we share online. Never make up or spread anything that is not true. In short, always respect others' 10. feelings (feeling). If we can't do that, maybe we're not ready to share online yet.  P There is a special jug(罐) on our kitchen table. I put some small pieces of paper and a pen next to the jug. Anyone in my family is free to write down something good that has happened 1. recently (recent). With pieces of paper in it, the jug 2. is called (call) “Good Things Jug”.  Many good things happen in a year. At 3. the end of the year, we get together to empty the jug. We take turns to read the “Good Things” aloud. Some of the things are 4. interesting (interest), some are serious, and some just give hope.  Over the past twelve 5. months (month), there have been many difficult things in our family. Noticing the “Good Things” has helped us go through the hard time. Here are a few things from the “Good Things Jug”:  “Jim and I went camping with our parents. There we taught my pet cat 6. how to clap(拍) with his feet.”  “With my parents' care, I was well again after a serious illness. I'm so 7. thankful (thank) to my parents for their love. It's the best thing on earth!”  “Dad got a better job today!” Our “Good Things Jug” is full 8. of love, hope and happiness. The little messages remind 9. us (we) that we can always expect good things to come, even during difficult times. Therefore, I encourage you 10. to create (create) your “Good Things Jug” today. I am sure it will make a big difference in your future life.  学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
